I had a bit of an odd request for sewing so I put it out on a site that gets bids from local businesses. I got 4 responses and one was Stitch Awesome. This company responded with what felt like the most agreeable option which was "we're pretty sure we can do it, can you send us photos and dimensions or bring it in so we can take a look?" Others just responded with hourly rates which told me nothing since I had no idea how long it would take. I hauled it in to Rosedale which is where they are located, and they looked, measured, and called someone to discuss. I had a reasonable quote in minutes and accepted it. They did an AWESOME job and I am SO happy with the results. Since you're probably wondering what this odd-job was, I will tell you. It's a stretchy cover for a podium that has velcro at the top and bottom and we wanted black material to stretch around it and cover up the ugly podium but leave the top open for use. The staff from Stitch Awesome are very professional and friendly. I brought a very delicate and heavy wedding gown in mermaid shape to their store and two specialists did my fitting for over an hour and gave me bunch of advice on how the dress should look like for my wedding day. It shouldn't be too tight otherwise I can't sit down; not too loose either. They also told me what kind of skin tapes I should get just to make it safer. Eventually I decided to get more quotes from other alteration stores and compare the price, and the lady I spoke to was totally cool with it even if she just spent an hour helping me. read more

I design custom suits for clients across the states and needed a tailor for a client in Minneapolis for an extremely tight turnaround (suit arrived to my client on 9/30 and she needed it for a wedding on 10/2). I had contacted Stitch Awesome when I found out how quickly the turnaround would be. They got back to me quickly with their estimated prices and a confirmation that the turnaround would be fine. I then spoke with them about how my clients are a part of the LGBTQ+ community and if they would be comfortable with that. The owner was extremely kind and was overjoyed to work my clients. My client picked up her suit yesterday and they did a fantastic job! They were swift, accurate, and professional. She felt comfortable being there. I'll definitely be sending future clients there! And in response to the previous yelp review on here: As a tailor myself, it's completely normal for a tailor to ask for a deposit if not payment in full. This is because way too many clients abandon their clothing (either forgetting about it or deciding it's not worth paying to pick them up) after work has been done. I have a whole rack of clothing to show that. It's pretty low to give a small business a 1 star review because of a standard practice you're ignorant of. I am in awe!! Brought my grampa's sweater here expecting that it was too far gone (with a big hole through both the pocket and inside) or that a patch would need to be sewn on. However, when I picked it up I was amazed! I can barely even see where the hole was-- it was stitched together so wonderfully. The price was very affordable too. My grampa will be so happy he can wear his favorite sweater again. I will definitely go back to Stitch Awesome in the future if I need other repairs!! read more

I brought my wedding dress in for alterations. There was fabric On my hips that made my hips look pointy so I asked for them To smooth it out and take in the sides just a tad. I also asked for a bustle and I showed them a picture exactly how I wanted it which was so it would lay flat and almost look like the dress didn't have a bustle. They messed up the sides when they took it in and ended up with one pointy hip and one not. Now it just looks so uneven. The bustle looks awful it is so poofy in the back it literally looks like I just took a banana clip and clipped it up. Not to mention they charged me almost $500 just for those two things!! They took over 2 months to complete it and so I then took it to another tailor. As soon as I put my dress on she gasped and said "oh no they did it all wrong". Without me even telling her the issue, she already could tell. I reached out to the manager of stitch awesome told him the issues, send videos and pictures of the dress and of what I asked for. He refused to refund me any of my money back and told me I should've brought it back to them to correct Instead of a different tailor. Mind you it takes them a whole month to fix anything and with my wedding being a month away, if I let them "try" to fix it the third time and it still wasn't right I would have no time to fix it before my wedding. Messing up my dress twice I didn't trust them to get it right so I brought it to someone else and now it is going to cost me another $500. $1000.00 in alterations on a $1,100.00 dress! I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
