Went here to get some extensive tailoring on some pants I'd ordered online, hemming, bringing in, and out of the waist, as well as tapering. The two who I worked with were incredibly nice, and definitely knowledgeable, they seemed to have a complete grasp on what I wanted. It only took a few days, and they were ready exactly when I was told they would be. They did exactly what I asked, and the pants both look much better on me, the work done was seamless. As far as value, I cannot really speak to that as this is the first tailor I've been to. Another place I went to quoted me an obnoxious amount so after about five shops and five different estimates, I decided on Golden Tailor because they had the best price, could finish on time, and had great reviews. However, because she was so available, I was a little skeptical...but my first fitting, I soon found out it was because she was super fast. And she was so confident in her abilities, I just had to put my trust in her. I am so so SO glad I did. This lady is sweet, professional, skilled, considerate..she made my dress fit like a glove. My new best friend! Confession - I cannot sew, be it a button or a little stitch, I just can't do it. In fact, picture it - 8th grade Home Ec, I'm trying to make my butterfly pillow and the darn pipe cleaner antenna will not stay in after I stitch them, so what do I do? I tape 'em. I didn't get a good grade, but I finished. Anywhoo, this is where Golden Tailor comes in handy. In the past few months, she's fixed the following for me - -Stitched the pocket in my winter coat -Hemmed 3 pair of my pants - BTW - stitch witchery doesn't really work! -Hemmed 1 pair of my husbands pants -Sewn a zipper in a pair of my pants -Stitched a seam in a dress -Sewn a hook into a dress -Sewn a button on a pair of shorts, while I waited. I'm either hard on clothes, buy cheap clothes, don't take care of my stuff or just let stuff pile up thinking I'll magically learn how to sew. I've had several pairs of jeans hemmed for length at Golden Tailor and they have never let me down. Good prices, reasonable turnaround, and quality results. Note that you need to be clear if you want to have the original pant cuffs showing. They refer to this as a 'tricky hem' and charge a little extra, but the end result is clean and hard to tell that it has been altered. read more

Took in our drapes to have them cut to length. We took in the correct length drapes and the owner measured what length we needed. When we took the tailored drapes home they were an inch to long. Utterly disappointing to pay for a tailor who cannot even cut drapes to the correct length. Yikes! read more

I've been to Golden Tailor twice: once to have a suit jacket tailored for a wedding, the other time to have suit pants hemmed and the waist taken in. Both times the service was fast (2-3 days), the results were amazing, and the prices were reasonable ($8.50 for hemmed pants, $17 for waist taken in, about $30 for suit jacket alterations). The lady working is always very friendly, and really knows her stuff! In my view Golden Tailor is better value than many other tailoring/alteration places around St. Paul. I brought a brand new bridesmaid dress to Golden Tailor to be shortened and taken in around the bust. The bust alterations were uneven, lumpy, and very poorly sewn, even after two separate attempts (one completed by the store owner). This was a relatively simple and straightforward job, and now the dress is ruined. I strongly recommend avoiding this shop! read more
