They ruined two designer skirts. The hems are messed up and I will need to take them elsewhere to get fixed. One is so uneven and the other they ruined by eliminating the pleat! They offered to fix but based on the results of the $97 hems, I don't trust them to be able to do so. Probably a basic pant hem would be ok at this shop but anything that has a special drape or cut, you would be better off taking to a shop who specializes in alterations for designer items. Fantastic experience. Had them modify a swimsuit bottom with difficult material composites. It was a gift and the last one of a discontinued line that I purchased online but could only find in an XXL. Every tailor I called, including much larger shops, said outright it could not be done by them, or not without some special piece of equipment they didn't have. Whatever that piece of equipment was, I don't think toms had it either, those other places made it sound borderline industrial. But Toms tailors didn't care and just NAILED it regardless through sheer talent Could not be more pleased with this place. I feel like this place should be called Tom's Miracles. I have been impressed by every single alteration I've had done here. I've brought in simple requests -- like hemming pants and jeans, to more complicated projects -- like adding a zipper where no zipper was before or changing the neckline of a shirt, to vague requests like "I don't like how this fits, what can you do?" There has not been a single service they have said they can't do, and there has not been a single time I have been disappointed. In fact, I think that every single person I have seen trying on their garment post-fix or alteration has been satisfied if not delighted. There are usually people waiting (in the rather small waiting room) to pick up finished garments or work with a tailor, so I'd say Tom's Tailor is usually pretty busy. I've also noticed that quite a few of the customers are known by name so that must mean they are faithful regulars. Tom himself is usually there as well, although I have mostly worked with a female employee. All the staff members are nice, in fact Tom even let me use their bathroom once when I wasn't being a customer but was in the area. I find the lead times to be reasonable, and it seems like they can do a quick-turn project upon request. I haven't compared pricing to any other tailors, but I guess I'd say their rates are reasonable. Highly recommended. Support local. Support craftspeople. On the 63 bus route. I have nothing bad, or even neutral, to say about Tom's. They were so friendly and kind, but beyond that, they were so skilled. They were incredibly intuitive with fitting my clothes and were even able to provide some insight about how the garments should fit. One of the pairs of pants I brought in needed to be taken in at the waist, and I can't for the life of me even find the seam that they made. I think I found my new tailor for life! read more

messed up my alteration request! I asked for one just the sides of my dress to be taken in when I got it back I found they took it in at all seams and even cut the cowl neck and made it less with out asking. this looked like a completely different dress. Worst part this is a bridesmaid dress. I was so speechless how bad the dress was messed up I paid and left. I tried seam ripping the places that I never asked to be altered but the sewing machine left holes it the fabric. ended up having to buy a whole new dress because it was soooo off from the other bridesmaids dresses. very bad experience read more

Tom, Tom, TOM. I'd like to hug you (virtually) for giving my wedding dress the star treatment. I've never had to do any serious alterations on a formal dress (let alone a wedding dress), so I took to Yelp, of course. I saw five-star reviews on top of five-star reviews... so I decided to take the chance with Tom's. I had the shoulders taken up (because I'm the height of a seventh grader) and changed from a cap sleeve (JV linebacker look, on me) to a classy sleeveless. They also hoped to put in a hook in the back so that my bra won't show (visible bra clasp is a super elegant bridal look, am I right?), but they realized it would've made other areas bunchy so they decided against it. When I came back to pick up the dress 10 days later, they had me try it on and make sure everything was perfect. And it was. It's not the most upscale shop, but they do great work and were right on time. I was hoping it would be a little cheaper than it was ($100), but I should've expected the price to climb because the dress is covered in sequins and they had to hand-sew them back on so that it looked like they'd never been involved at all. I also had another cocktail dress hemmed for $30, so that's not too shabby. And now... the poor, gorgeous wedding dress is caged in a closet for the next six months. My zipper suddenly broke on my winter coat in the middle of winter. Terrible timing! In an effort to be more eco-conscious I decided to walk in to Tom's and see if they could fix it. They immediately said yes and asked if I wanted a zipper that was larger so it would be more durable and less likely to break in the future. I said definitely. I went to Tom several years ago in order to get a leather coat made for my best friend in the world, my Greyhound, Daphne. After he laughed himself senseless when I asked him if he could make this he said "yes." And I brought in her best winter coat to use as a pattern. Have recently tried to sell the coat, however, it is so gorgeous and beautifully made I hate to let it go! And she looked like a princess wearing it. I reached out to them about replacing a broken zipper on a beloved pair of jeans. They responded quickly and completed the work in the timeframe they said they would. The modern man doesn't not find himself in need of a tailor very often, but perhaps he should. I recently required a new suite for a wedding I was going to be attending. So, I pulled one of those deals where you buy a suite that doesn't quite fit anywhere except for the shoulders because it was by far the best looking suite on sale. This is where Tom does his magic. I took the suite into him the following week and he went about his work. He took in the sides and took out the sleeves as well as released my butt cheeks from the death grip the pants put them in. Now the suite looks like it was made for me and is quite comfortable. All this was done for less than one hundred dollars which allowed me to salvage a suite I saved some $250 on. As for his quality, I cannot see any evidence of alteration on the suite anywhere. The suite looks like it was made just as I got it back from him. Additionally, I have a lot of confidence that he knows how to take measurements and then apply them to the garment. I can't tell you how many compliments I get when I where this suite now. As for garments other than suites, if you have an odd body-type-- I have a tall and lanky one--you may find that tailoring is really something that can come in use on a regular basis. Much of what makes a garment look "expensive" vs. "cheap" these days is fitment.
