He patched holes and sewed up seams in my Uncle Tony's Legionnaire coveralls from post WWII. Ray repaired the pockets in a leather bomber jacket. Ray also gives advice on whether or not an item can be safely repaired. He cautioned me against carrying too much in my purse and tearing the handles loose. He glued down some leather on another purse handle and said to wait two hours before lifting it. I followed his advice and the purse is holding up! He advised me on how to care for my new suede shoes. It's not just me who raves about Ray's work. Anytime another customer has come in while I'm in the store, they always tell me how great they think Ray's work is and what a wonderful person he is. Ray charges for the repairs he makes. The price reflects how long it takes him to do the repair, the difficulty of the repair, and what materials he has to supply to complete the repair. I have always felt that I've paid a fair price for what he's done. Ray's repairs are well worth it!

Okay, Steve is a very nice man who puts one at ease right away. He talks gently about one's…read moremachine as if it were one's child (which is almost spot on!). My old machine needed help in so many areas, and I didn't have a clue why the thread was popping all over the place on one side of the sewing while on the other side it was so very tight! I had known Steve from our acquaintance at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, and heard of his sewing machine repair talents. So I made an appointment and went to his wonderful studio, and he discussed my machine, with most of his wonderful knowledge going right over my head, not because he was talking above me, but because I knew so little about sewing machines and sewing in general. He was able to reach me on my level though, and he had me leave my machine for a few days while he looked it over and did what he could. My mother's machine now runs like a top! Silent, smooth, and responsive! The sewing that it does is balanced and even, without pulling or pumping out bobbin thread like it was shooting up fireworks on the fourth of July! Just like everyone is saying, it sews better than my big computerized sewing machine! I tell you, get a vintage sewing machine from a garage sale and bring it to Steve! You won't be sorry . . . unless you buy a totally unrepairable machine. You might be disappointed then. But not by Steve. He will be honest and let you know what, why, and how! You will be disappointed that you decided on the cheapest sewing machine at the garage sale! Love you Steve! Time for a ROAD TRIP!!

A NYC-based blog commented he repaired older machines and was extremely knowledgeable. That he was also extremely close to my neighborhood helped seal the deal for me. The internet can be a great thing. Despite the light rail construction on University, I made it into Prospect Park without any major issue. Steve was really great; he talked about my machine for a while and answered all my nosy questions about other machines he had in his studio. I dropped my sewing machine off on a Saturday and picked it up Wednesday. The invoice was a bit more expensive since the machine had additional problems, but he was very detailed in his invoice - think paragraphs - about what needed to be fixed and the good parts about my machine. So now I have a sewing machine that was purchased and tuned up for around $100 total that is more dependable and durable than a sewing machine I'll buy today for around the same price. Steve was really friendly and knowledgeable and clearly showed a great passion for his work. I'm pleased about the service and am excited to start sewing!

Because of the way the buttons on the zipper were, I was told by multiple tailors that they could do nothing about it. Not here! I called and he immediately told me he could fix it and to come in. Once there, he took a look at it, said he can still fix it and gave me options about what kinds of zippers he can do. He told me about the double zipper that can zip up from the bottom so when you sit down, it doesn't put strain on the zipper and inevitably split again. It has changed the game on this jacket! Overall, great customer service, timely alterations and everything was delivered as promised. Would recommend for any tailoring needs!
