I am giving this location 2-stars based on two experiences. 1: I purchased items via curbside pickup when I was in the parking lot. The store had all the lights on and I thought I could pick up the item right at that moment. The website said the store was open. It let me place my order. I drove over to pick my item up and the store looked open. Then I read the sign. It was closed. I couldn't pick up my item. I also noticed I'd have to pick my item up in the next few days or I would lose my item??? Weird. So now I had to return to this location and it is kind of out of the way. 2: we stopped by this location to pick up my order and it was an okay experience. The store had parking numbers and I assumed they would bring the items to the car. When I called the number I was told to go to the door and they would place my item in a bin and I'd have to take it out of the bin. Leaning into a bin isn't the most hygienic thing during covid and if this is their strategy, why do they have numbered parking spots for delivery to your car? Just mind boggling. If I could I would leave 0 stars. I drove to this location for over half hour in rain and traffic and this store was supposed to close at 9:00 pm. I tried to walk In at 8:55 but store manager closed the door in my face and said I can't come in when I still had 5 minutes. She was rude and laughed in my face. I literally needed one thing at the front of the store. I ended up here as per the recommendation of the Chef who teaches the course I am taking at a local culinary school. The recommendation that brought me here was that even though they don't specialize in cooking utensils it everything under one roof kind of place. I had luckily brought a pic of the items I wanted to buy and just grabbed an associate to help me out. The sales person was very helpful and asked others for info if she couldn't figure out where something was (always a good sign IMO). There prices are at par for standard items when compared with other major chains and higher for some things but I think its worth visiting as you can get stuff done in one go. Besides the location is next to one of my fav shopping spots (CostCo) so that helps. The returns were very straight forward without fuss or questions asked. read more

Some said limited quantity in store but you can't add to cart and in store shopping is not available due to COVID. Went online the other day to order 2 balls of Caron Anniversary Cakes yarn. Received an email Thursday my order was getting ready to ship. Get another email yesterday that as per my request my order was cancelled. I DIDN'T cancel the order. I go online and check and lo and behold the yarn is on sale. I call customer service and they said my order was cancelled because it's out of stock. Miraculously went out of stock tie day it went on sale! Was told they would be getting more stock in 1-2 weeks (when it's no longer on sale) and I could reorder. They wouldn't honour the sale price. Michael's is great for all your arts and crafts needs. Plus, they have other decorative items for the home and garden. But the prices are just outrageous. Every little piece of paper or plastic is marked up many many times over the true value. I hope they come into their senses and drop their prices, but I have my doubts, seeing they have become a ravenous publicly traded entity. read more

I came here looking for supplies to fix some jewelry that had broken on me. I was able to find what I was looking for, due to the MASSIVE jewelry-making section. This store has almost everything you need to be a weekend crafter... lots of jewelry making stuff, a giant scrapbooking section, tons and tons of picture frames. My only gripe is that it's a bit expensive. Also, service was kind of vaguely semi-hostile, as if I were interrupting something important. The lady in line with me remarked that leaving the place is always such a chore, because the line up to cash out takes so long. I had to agree. Was hired to work at this location and was handled and treated awfully before I was ever able to start (which I never did). I had to chase the store manager for information from day one and she did not follow through with any information I was given, 3 times throughout 5 whole weeks. No apologies or recognition of mistakes. Artificially acted as though there was nothing out of the ordinary when confronted. Seemed to enjoy toying with me. Complete lack of respect, responsibility, decency, etc. Staff is gossipy and immature. Terrible. Not surprised to see all the unsatisfied reviews on the customer service. When shopping, it is difficult to find a staff member for help and they do not offer it. Got left on hold for over 10 minutes almost every time I've called. This negative review is solely on their customer service. I called ahead to ask if they had the item I was looking for (gel food coloring, and yes they did) and was told they would transfer me over to a representative who knows the answer. I was put on hold for 7 minutes until I finally hung up and called again. There was no apology that they forgot to pick up the phone when I called again, I was transferred to the representative who told me he didn't know but would go check in the store, 5 minutes later I was still on hold yet again. Finally another lady noticed a call on hold and picked up the call. At last she was able to answer my question. 20 minutes later I got my answer, it should not have taken that long. Moral of the story: be prepared to wait if you need anything. Poor customer service. read more

This Michael's location is the most convenient for me so I end up at the store more than I'd like to. The prices are much higher than other art and craft stores. They also do not offer a student discount, whereas most other art retailers do. They do, however, offer a coupon, which is good for one item. This is convenient if you're purchasing one large item. Then it brings down the cost to a reasonable amount that you'd see in a different store. If you're purchasing many little items, go somewhere else or wait for a better coupon. Download the app for electronic coupons and you can also scan items to check prices. The staff are hard to find in the store, so if you have any sort of question at all, you should definitely call ahead or risk walking around for over half an hour. The staff are pleasant enough, but the overall customer service level barely makes the cut in my books. The obligatory "thanks" at the end of the transaction is usually so ingenuine that I'd rather hear nothing at all. To end on a better note, the selection of various supplies Michael's carries is fairly wide. The products appeal from the everyday, to the serious crafter. read more

Most stores have a 24hr window to cancel your order ....APPARENTLY Michaels gives you 1 hr after your order is placed before they refuse to cancel and they won't refund the ridiculous shipping cost. That is absolutely ridiculous for for an order that isn't set to be delivered for another 5 days. I was told I should refuse the delivery or return in store... how can you refuse a package that comes from canada post that doesn't require to be signed for and the $13 shipping cost is not refundable in store...HORRIBLE store policy. For wedding invitations assembly, there was not much here. Yes, they have all the supplies like tape glue ribbon but SO expensive. See the rest of the stores on the list where I got everything. The first time we were here was looking for paper, but I found a much better deal at Spicers. Today we came in looking for adhesive options for ribbon and the paper. There were double sided tape (but cheaper at Staples) and different types of glue adhesive (simliar to the dry white out dispensers). They all range from $11-16 each and for 120 invitations we would have needed like 10 of them. They do have a double sided tape dispenser though, which we didn't see in Staples or any other store. There's also a variety of ribbons, but unless you're going with something super fancy, no need to buy here. We found tons in this place in chinatown. In the end, we left empty handed and thinking worst case, we go to staples and spend $50 on double sided tape. That is until we found the solution at the dollar store! $1 !! IF you're buying stuff here, however, for things other than invitations, be sure to check out their website for coupons. Today there was a 40% coupon! read more

As with others rather disappointed with this store. I too have been to the US Michaels and found them to have so much more to offer in the exact same amount of space and at wayy better prices (I mean really $1 more per ball of yarn??). As with others I too found the customers service LACKING. I was literally there for 2 hours and although I did see the odd Michaels staffer running around (alone), not one of them ever asked me if I needed any assistance. Yes I have been to those stores where I rather dread going in to them because in a 15min space of time 10 people will ask me if I need anything but there is a happy medium ground where someone could bother to ask you if you need anything over a 2hr period is there not?? Checkout was rather a drag as well. Had a printed coupon from my computer& a flyer coupon and the lady told me I could use only one of that type. Okay, fair enough but while searching for something online while in the store (because, you know, no one helped me and I was looking for information on a product) I noticed that their website indicated that there was a This Day only 50% off one item special on that day. When she finished ringing me in and no discount came up I asked and she said I needed to print it off and bring it in (so we are supposed to check their website on the day we are going to see if they have a one day only coupon?)??? I said I noticed it online on my cell when I was in store and thus could not have printed it off. She then said if I would bring it up on my phone she would accept it but you had to get to the flyer, then log in then do something else and with a line of like 15 people waiting because although there were 4 cashiers on tills it seemed that only one was ever asking for new customers (??). I gave up and said never mind I am not going to hold up everyone and she said.... SURE. Customer service at it's finest. Frankly the best part of my Michael's experience was that the aisles are wide (as with all other Michael's stores), the store was clean and best of all.... the doors opened and I was able to leave. read more

Expensive, but I still like going in and browsing. My purchases here are minimal, but they when they have sales they're usually good ones. I got a bunch of beautiful frames recently that were 1/2 price (regularly $70.00+) and some neat craft kits for the G-Kids. They keep the checkout line moving pretty good and the staff is friendly. Went to the Michaels location at William Kitchen Road in Scarborough in February to purchase items for my sister's 50th birthday party. One thing I wanted was a beautiful frame to do a collage of her party as a gîft. Went to the framimg section and asked a gentleman is there anyone working in that department. Out came this lady who looked like she was in a bad mood. I started to ask questions about framing etc. Her answers were abrupt and almost to the point of making me feel stupid. After about 5 minutes, I decided from going to a $150 frame to a cheaper one just to terminate my interaction with her. I purchased a frame for less than $50 off the shelf. Wrote an email to their corporate office about this incident and received a call back from the store manager apologizing. Hey, it was your loss of a huge sale. Go to another Michaels if you want customized framing as the lady working there should not be working in customer service. read more

I recently visited the Etobicoke store for assistance w/a frame/collage (a gift); during shipping the glass was broken and needed replacement; not only was the salesperson very pleasant but she replaced the glass and allowed me to keep the original frame at no cost.
