    Too many choices!

I used to live in The Annex and I used to be crafty. OK I was probably never that crafty, but I've just started revisiting my old DIY haunt, and I'm still a fan. I come here for fancy pens, cards and fabric dye. I heart fabric dye and how it can spruce up any wardrobe on a budget, it has proven especially helpful with those pesky fading black pants. These little black squares have seriously saved me about $500. Beyond my small purchases, this two story art-lovers mecca has an extensive paint, brush and canvas selection and a lot of neat little gifts by the cash register. This review is practically an ad for fabric dye! Oops. PEPPER PROPS to the staff. They really know their stuff, but are still patient with less crafty people like me who ask a lot of questions.

    cute little metal lunchbox.

Again, another popular/great browsing spot in the annex. I love looking at office supplies--maybe it makes me feel as though I will accomplish more if I have a nice pen, or dayplanner, or folder. It's like the unspoken promise that whispers from the aisles-- "buy these things, and you will enjoy working and you will be productive...for a change!" It's a cool mix of stuff in here, from stationery to sharpies as big as my face, to puzzles, crafts, balsa wood, whiteboards, kids' toys, giftwrap and ribbons, toys--all shamelessly but wordlessly taunting me. Browse away, browse away; but don't be surprised when you're tempted.

Ridiculously overpriced. Overcrowded with many items that aren't art supplies. More of a convenience store than art store.

Rude, snickering, sarcastic Gen-Zee staff. My review needs at least 85 characters. Is this 85, now?

Daniel's is a small art supply store with a very small range of brands and products. I asked for 2 tubes of acrylic in white and gold, but they only carried the really expensive ones that costs $10 something each. Unlike many other art supply stores, Daniel's does not provide student discount. I was in a rush hurry, so I thought I would still pay for it. Yet they do not accept debit or credit cards - only cash - and I did not have enough cash on me. So I ended up buying only one tube and dashed to Gwartzman for the other colour which costed me $3 something over there. While the products were expensive, I must still give them some points for their service. The cashier insisted on giving me a free box for the one tube of acrylic I bought, even though I do not see the need of it. In conclusion, while their expensive prices can be somewhat justified by their higher quality products and service, other stores offer students discount and payment by debit and credit card. Hence, not likely to visit again.

This store is for folks who love to write, do calligraphy, or have a fondness for fountain pens and decent stationery. It is heaven and deadly. I decided not to go in. I knew that if I did, I'd be there for hours, wanting every fountain and calligraphy pen, and every ink imaginable. I love fountain and calligraphy pens. I am content with the pens that I have, so I did some window-browsing instead. I noticed Blackwing pencils on a desk close to the window. They aren't cheap! A single pencil will cost you $40. My not entering this store was a wise choice. Blackwing pencils are special in that they use high-quality graphite that rarely breaks. It is made of incense-cedar wood that makes sharpening it easy. There's a rectangular eraser on top, likely for flair. It's still crazy expensive for a pencil! If you are looking for a fancy writing instrument or quality paper, this store is for you. I was happy browsing from afar. If I do win the lottery, you'll find me here buying everything. (490)

It's the kind of piece that doesn't sell itself; it just... stays. And honestly? That's why I'm writing. I've spent the last three years behind the counter at a tiny gallery in Portland--nothing fancy, just good light and people who'd rather talk about brushstrokes than buy anything. I learned how to spot the quiet ones who come in for just a look, then leave with a $400 watercolor because I asked if they'd ever painted their own shadow. I'm not pushy. I'm patient. And I remember names--like how Mrs. Alvarez always wants the softest pastels, or how the kid in the hoodie keeps circling the same neon print until he finally asks if we do layaway. Desires feels different. Not louder--just deeper. I've seen your Instagram; the way you frame a single canvas like it's breathing. You don't just sell art--you curate moments. I want to be part of that. I'm good with inventory (I once reorganized our entire back room by mood--warm tones on the left, cold on the right--sales jumped fifteen percent). I can wrap a piece like it's a gift to someone's future self. And yeah, I'll admit--I've already daydreamed about restocking your shelves at six in the morning, radio low, coffee black, watching the city wake up through the glass. If you're looking for someone who'll treat every customer like they're about to fall in love--with a painting, with themselves, with whatever--they'll find here--I'm your guy. Let me know if you ever need an extra pair of hands. Or eyes. Or just someone who'll stay late to hang that last piece right. Warmly, Leo P.S.
