The pattern is taunting me! - A printed sewing project pattern for creating quilted oven mitts and accessories, showing fabric designs and construction diagrams. The pattern includes images of the finished oven mitt, a quilted vest, and a quilted collar, with instructions for measuring yardage. The pattern is labeled as one size and is designed and printed in the USA, available in a retail store environment.

Last Wednesday, I arrived early to meet my friend at Scotiabank Theatre. I hadn't visited this Michaels store since it took over Chapters, so I spent some time browsing around. I used to love hanging out at this Chapters. It had three floors, including a Starbucks on the top floor. I was curious to see how Michaels would use this space. Most of my time was spent on the first floor. I have a love for calligraphy. I don't do it often, but I find it relaxing and fun. I longingly looked at the nibs, pens, and inks. I then moved over to the brush and felt-tipped pens in various sizes and colours. The assortment is decent. There are also a number of bins close to the checkout area. I was drawn to the silicone coin purses. They had cheerful solid colours and ones with designs on them, including donuts and cats. The main floor also has frames for practically everything, from posters to degrees. You can ask for help and custom framing services there, too. I used the escalator to go up to the second floor. This store still has an elevator for those who require it. I loved the second floor. It has sewing, fabric, and craft supplies. I looked at all the Simplicity patterns, and it threw me back to looking at them with my mom at either Simpsons or Eatons as a kid. I nearly got the wrist sleeve pattern to jazz up my wrist support gear these days! For clearance items, you got to work for them here! They are all on the third floor. I'd you feel like celebrating Christmas in July, there are lots of festive items at reduced prices. There are washrooms on the third floor. They seemed to be single stalls for both men and women. The women's washroom was locked when I tugged at the door. The escalators between the second and third floors weren't working. I walked up and down them instead. The elevator was still operational. I recommend signing up online to get discount coupons. Depending on what you're buying, you could save quite a bit! The only downside was that this place did not have the air conditioning on. I was sweating buckets browsing. It was hot and humid outside. It was mildly cooler in this store. I actually moved myself to Scotiabank Theatre's lobby to cool off. The air conditioning was awesome there and I stopped looking like I just came out of the shower. It was nice to check out this Michaels. Markham doesn't have one anymore, so I'm always getting my craft fix elsewhere. (259)

I had seen almost a whole aisle at another Michaels for wedding related products so my friend, her fiancé and I came here in search for similar products. We only found was a small section for wedding related products at this location. We spent a significant amount of time going up and down the aisles in search of anything that would be useful to my friend. She was given plenty of ideas and I'm not sure if she'll be back to make some purchases.

So today's experience was great. Staff today were excellent. One guy was putting out stock and he stopped what he was doing to help me find what I needed. Another who does watercoloring gave his suggestions on paper brands and quality. And checkout was super pleasant. I will say that I purchased a watercolor tube and found out when I was home that it appeared used based on how much paint was on the inside of the cap. So I returned it without issue. That said, I hate when items are returned used and put back on shelves! So I might stay away from tubes going forward. It was early morning so not busy, which is the nicest time to shop. I'm upgrading my star-rating accordingly. Plus the great discounts I get as a reward member on what feels like an everyday basis have me returning!

Nice to have this art supply store handy right downtown. It's a good place to kill time. Not more SB store upstairs when it was a book store and it isn't missed. Everything looks spaced out and more stuff could fit in this spacious location. There seems to be a good selection of certain items, but I had the feeling that there wasn't enough of an effort to stock everything. Everything is quite pricey as well, so don't go in thinking you will get a bargain. Nice to see you Michaels!

This is a new store in the old location of the downtown Playdium. 3 floors of arts and crafts supplies! The first floor has fine arts (painting, drawing, etc.) along with frames and custom framing. The second floor is beading/jewellery making and yarn. The top and largest floor has seasonal, floral, ribbon, glassware, and all the various craft supplies (scrap booking, soap making, wood carving, etc.). Nice big open store and easy to find stuff in. Unfortunately, like most Michaels stores it was way too hot inside. It was cool and windy outside but inside felt like a sauna, Prices are pretty much the same all their stores and not jacked up because it is in such a high rent district. Always be sure to go to their website and download the latest coupon before shopping as they always have a coupon there.

I like the idea of the art superstore, but in real it too difficult for me to get the applies that I need. The only thing that I always buy from them is embroidery floss. There are always half empty shelves with the floss and on all my questions about the expectation of the itemI'm getting different answers. As a result, currently I'm waiting more that three weeks for one item and they never know when it will finally at stock.

At least the prices would be good if there were stock to purchase

    Review Highlights - Michaels

At last, there it was, the aisle that I'd been waiting to see for my entire first trip to Micheal's, the tri-fold aisle.

One of the cheapest spots in the city to pick up a board game. The pros are they have a massive collection, a giant library filled with rows and rows of games and collectibles. If I'm in the area, I used to stop by to peruse because I'm that kind of geek. I honestly haven't made them exercise their customer service skills because I research my board games and know exactly what I want. But I can see that newbies could be overwhelmed with all the options coming in. We decided to buy a board game for a friend's child, age 6. My boyfriend ran off to find a game at Meeple without consulting me first. He came out empty-handed, saying there was nothing suitable for that age range. I'm SURPRISED. There's a board game for everything there. I'm not an expert for games for six-year-olds, so I just Googled, found a dad blog and decided Catan Junior was it and purchased online here. They processed our order immediately and were ready for pick up the same day if needed. The truth is my BF was about to check out at Indigo, which is 30% more before I reminded him to check at Meeple again for prices. The only difference *I think* is the packaging art is slightly different and the box is larger at Meeple. If their staff actively asks every customer walking in and tries to help, they can convert more casual or newbie gamers--what a lost opportunity.

Nick, the owner said that he sold the same gun yesterday to a customer for $225, and he was gonna give it to me for $180. Great, I thought. Then I went on the internet and realized that the same gun is actually a piece of crap and can be ordered from any website for $50!!! Guy charged me $180 for a $50 gun. Don't even think of buy knives, they're all marked up 2 or 3 times the retail value as well. Of course I went back and confronted Nick. He had the nerve to play dumb, saying things like "oh, it's not the same online" even though it was the exact same model. I even printed the page off the website and showed it to him. HE STILL DENIED IT, to my face, and tried to call ME an idiot and a liar who didn't know what I was talking about. These guys either don't know the retail value of anything in their store, or they deliberately play stupid. I ended up getting store credit after a long argument. These guys will rip you off without blinking an eye, and they do it by acting like the friendliest sales people. Horrible business practices. If you're gonna buy anything from there, don't pay a cent over 1/2 of the marked price. They will say "oh we gotta make a living too", but you have to be firm and tell them straight up that you know what the retail value is, and that's all you're willing to pay. Don't be suckered by these dirty Greeks like I did. I said "Nick, look me in the eye and tell me, as a man, that you did not just rip me off by over $100." The staff are usually friendly with me, but they always seem to want to engage in some kind of right-wing conversation, despite my repeated attempts to subtly signal that, 'yeah, thanks but I just want to be going'. The last time I was there they charged me $10 for a 50' length of paracord (the market value is about $5). Another indicator of their markup would be the price for those basic foil emergency blankets from Coghlan's: MEC on King St. has them for $1.75. Central surplus wants about $5. For a big piece of paper-thin foil. After bringing up my purchase, the woman behind the counter wanted to keep complaining to me about NAFTA--god, how old is THAT political chestnut? Bottom line: The only surplus store downtown, but avoid it if you can. You'll pay too much and possibly be creeped out by the overly opinionated staff. Maybe try save-more next to Moss Park.
