There are bigger yarn shops, but in my experience the staff can be kind of snarky, and you know what? Choosing yarn is hard! My first experience at the knit cafe was many years ago at their Queen street location. I had never knit a stitch and I just wanted to make a super simple chunky scarf for my boyfriend. I'm crafty, so the technique wasn't going to be a problem (I've since become a knitting ninja), I needed help just getting matching yarn and needles. The knit cafe stepped in when I was about to give up after a rude experience at another store. They were well above and beyond helpful! Since then I've also taken some of their classes, I've become a "Sock Master" and I've "Designed my Own Sweater". FANTASTIC skill building, hence my title of knitting ninja. It's all thanks to this amazing space. I literally have new questions every week and they help me through my projects time after time. It's an amazing resource that I will miss dearly when I move from Toronto. ;)

Since they had those yarn in their website ; however, they don't carry them in the store. They said that I must buy them as a bag (10 balls for a bag, and cost around $270) I wish to buy few balls and went there to ask. The lady said that she can take one bag of the yarn to the store, and let me touch and feel it if I really want to buy a bag of it. So, that means, I can't buy them individually anyway, a bit disappointed. I don't need so many balls. The service is ok, not as friendly as other local yarn stores....

All of the yarn is high end and beautiful but all very similar. They also have good quality needles. The service here is not great. The women that work there later in the evening are very rude; unfriendly and it always seems like they're just waiting for you to leave. Earlier in the day, there are other ladies who are very pleasant.

Not a community vibe at all. In fact, it's quite Unwelcoming. As a beginner, I purchased yarn from their store & was told to feel free to contact them with questions while knitting my sweater. However, when I called them with a simple question, I was referred to take a private class, rather than giving me a chance to trouble shoot with them on the phone. I did not wish to spend money on a private class when my question could be resolved thru a chat. Earlier this week, I dropped by the store and the woman working there was unapproachable & insists that she can only answer questions by appointment. As such, despite it being a storefront with regular hours Monday to Sunday, they operate by "appointment only" if you have a question. In contrast, I had a very positive & pleasant experience calling another local knitting store today & my question was resolved in a few minutes by a kind person. I would not recommend knit-o-matic.

They had a good selection of different materials that I could choose from for the needles I was buying, and the cost was reasonable for what I purchased. There's a few workers that are on the floor helping with customers. As a noobie, I was walking aimlessly around the store until I gave up and had to ask for help from Christina. She was very helpful, and thoughtful with her answers to my many questions. I appreciated her as she didn't rush when describing the different yarn I could use. I will be back for materials and tips for my next project.

As soon as you enter the store, you're greeted by an employee letting you know that there is a whole other section of the store downstairs. The staff are generally friendly and knowledgeable. My only "complaint", which isn't really a complaint, is that it's quite expensive compared to the alternatives. I recognize that this is a small business and they need to make money, and stock independent pattern companies and more unique fabrics...but I just find that even with their sale weekends and promotions such as "spend x and get y percentage off", the savings are rarely significant enough for me to actually participate.
