Incredible selection and all the staff are wonderful. The Weston location is great as there is parking.

A wide and varied selection of pure wool and associated tools. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Look for discounted items to save some money. read more

Romni wool has lots to offer - but it requires some patience and a sense of purpose. Filled to the brim with yarn - it can be overwhelming if you don't have a specific need in mind. I wondered in here on a whim as we visited family in Toronto, and were walking Queen Street to show the kids their hometown. It's a bit messy and the aisles are narrow. (They need one-way signs.) Down in the basement is the sale yarn. Even more crowded than upstairs. Due to having family with me, had to do a quick run thru. Having too much stash, little time to knit and one thing on my mind, I did not do an adequate job of looking around - I did see lots of patterns, including what are likely vintage patterns - no chance to browse them. In the front is an assortment of pre-made items - hats, slippers, mitts, sweaters, as well is other assorted knitterly stuff. Great assortment of wooden/bamboo needles, including super large sizes. Gorgeous selection of standard brands of yarns/wools. Some roving (not as much as I had in my minds eye, going there with my mom about 30 years ago before I ever even thought about knitting). Really kind of a fun shop. Would I recommend (to a knitter)? Yes. Would I return? Yes - but I think without my family in tow, and with a defined project goal. read more

You use a modern POS system with digital receipts! Enjoy your extra star! I find staff far more friendly and the semiannual sales last several days instead of one, making them far more civilised. read more

I bought # wool yarn& crochet tools quite a few X...their prices are a bit high compared to other similar stores.. overall customer service NOW is good...but when I came shopping (08/2021)the pressure of giving customers, coming in ,a limited time span to shop is not right..sounds like pressure tactic..which can lead to wrong choice..in my case I bought this hemp/wool yarn mix,not cheap, which had "defects"..+ I didn't get my eticket, emailed..so whereas the original supplier was willing to refund me, I couldn't because Romni wool failed to email me the original sale ticket..eventually after talking with 1 of their staff I was offered exchange on 1 ball that was unused..how fair does this sound to you? Lesson: always Claim your "paper" sale receipt... But I must admit that during the pandemic, sales clerk are more friendly, compared to before..hope this will last... read more

In my first year as a knitter, I've sought out at least a couple of yarn stores in every city I've visited -- at least eight different cities. And Romni had by far the biggest selection of any store. If only I hadn't been QUITE such a newbie when I stopped in! If only I'd had more than half an hour! If only I had bought all the yarn I'd need for the rest of my life! Well, I made excellent use of the time and dollars I had available. I bought a lovely mulitcolored mohair that was fabulously discounted in their ENORMOUS sale section. I bought a pair of amazing wooden needles the salesperson recommended -- what a joy they are to use! And (gasp!) I followed the shopkeeper's advice when she took a look at the cowl I had in progress, even though I'd purchased the yarn elsewhere, and she kindly advised that I really needed to start over -- and then (at my request) frogged it for me herself, because I didn't have the strength to unknit my own knitting. Lucky for me, I make it to Toronto regularly, and Romni is not far from my BFF! I expect to make it a regular stop during future visits -- and next time I will show up with a plan! read more

The Queen Street location has a huge selection of yarn. As other have said the main floor has standard pricing while the basement is full of options that are at a significant discount from the regular price, you just have to either totally luck out or not care what colours you want to use if you are going in for the bargain basement buys. Sadly though, although I find colours I like down there they never seem to be the ones I am specifically looking for, for the project I am shopping for and I TRY not to buy random wool (I have to admit though that I sometimes fail at that mission). This is not the place to come looking for inexpensive or non-natural fiber yarns. They might have a few running around the store but their focus is on natural fibers and specialty yarns. They also have a nice mix of needles if you are looking for that missing size and the price point there seems to be fairly standard. Staff is hit and miss. 2 out of 3 times I will get a totally fantastic person who is really interested and lovely to talk to with tonnes of suggestions... that 3rd time I get the person who barely grunts at you. All in all I love coming into this shop to look around, be able to check out yarns that I might not have had access to before and plot out my next WIP. read more

NICEST people (the owner is so kind to the staff and public shopping at Romni Wool) and beautiful selection of products that are all reasonably priced. Love this place! read more

Definitely do go to check out the yarn on sales in the basement, but in order to keep your sanity and your love for knitting, do not talk to anyone. Right the staff is very good in knitting and I am happy for all of you. If all of you can be a little less condescending I would go to Romni more often. When I ask you opinion on a new project and the best yarn, I am expecting you to keep in mind that there are other people who are beginners. I am shopping at Romni not only for the selection, but also for the knowledge. Yes you guessed right, I am a beginner, but please be helpful and spend some extra time to explain to me. read more

Pros: - Romni has a huge selection of mid-priced to expensive yarn, and other knitting supplies. - Some of their staff members (specifically the older ones) are very helpful and are willing to take the time to find exactly what you need. Cons: - Very limited options for inexpensive yarns. - Many staff, especially the younger women that are around the cash desk, are very cold and unwelcoming. I've gone through several transactions (and I'm in there quite frequently) where the only words uttered to me were the total amount of the sale, despite "hellos" and "thank yous" on my part. I'm pretty sure the entire sale could have been done with zero talking and a blank stare if I didn't make the effort. If I hadn't already started selling products made from a specific yarn available there, I probably wouldn't shop at Romni anymore. read more

There's a scene in the movie 'Amelie' that speaks volumes to me. She finds pleasure by doing the smallest gestures and one of them is to bury her fingers in a bag of dried beans. Well, for me, one of the gestures I love doing is to bury my fingers in the boxes of wool at Romni. It's hard to resist. You walk into Romni and you see rows and rows of baskets filled with yarns. They have every type of yarn you can imagine, in all colours and textures. You can literally spend an hour touching the different yarns and think of ideas what to do with them. If you feel overwhelmed at the selection and not sure where they stock that alcapa wool, ask someone at the front for help. It's worth while going into the basement to see their discounted yarn selection. You have to do a bit of digging because it's like a maze, but it's worth it if you're looking to save a few dollars. Every Boxing Day, Romni hosts an enormous sale where their entire store stock is on sale. It's a huge savings opportunity but keep in mind that it's like a zoo in there. The store is jammed full of people and the line-up to the cash is long. I mean RIDICULOUSLY long! Having survived one of those sales I will impart on some wisdom: Arrive early; come armed with a list of what you want; be patient; and bring cash. The cash line is a lot shorter than the debit/credit line, therefore you will be out of that zoo a lot sooner. read more

Some people like service, some people like high end, some people like quantity. If you're in the first category, this is probably not the place to start. If, however, you're a browser like me and you love getting lost in heaps of yarn and left to yourself to contemplate the yarn gods, this is the store for you. Romni Wool is packed FULL of yarn. There are huge amounts of yarn on the top floor and yet more yarn in the basement. Although they sometimes have too much yarn to fit on the shelves, it's usually very well organized, with sock yarn in one spot, workhorse yarn in another, etc. They also sells notions (needles, buttons, patterns, knit items), I always go for the yarn. read more

Great yarn store to browse and feel yarn. LLoads of roving downstairs and lots of patterns and books available. Very large and overwhelming at first. Make sure you check the hours. I've gone on a Monday or a Sunday (in different seasons) and they've been closed... which sucks when you're coming in from Scarborough just for this store. But wonderful sales people, and be prepared to walk around in a daze. Also recomend taking the Queen street trolley across, or take a 20 min stroll from Uni/Osgoode read more

This is an amazing yarn store. They have everything... somewhere... you may need help finding it. You may also want to take some allergy medication before you go into the dusty basement. This place is chock full of yarn and just when you think you've seen it all, you turn the corner and there is another room. The folks working here are nice, but not as knowledgeable as one might hope. I was also a bit sad that they have no idea (and seemingly no way to calculate) how much yarn is the cones and other mill ends that they sell. Simply can't get to a 4-star rating here because it is so expensive. I was particularly surprised by the prices of discontinued yarns. They were selling skeins that I have bought for 50 cents elsewhere for around $8! This was true for several yarns. And everything was about $2 more than any place else I shop. I would go here if I was having trouble finding something, but truthfully if it were the only yarn shop available to me, I would end up buying my yarn online. read more

I always knew this was a yarn store, but I never had a purpose to actually walk in. At school, my guidance councilor loves to knit and she was telling the knitting group about this place. I've been knitting for many years now, but it's always just the simple knitting. I never really known much about different types of yarn or size of needles...I usually got all my knitting supplies from Wal Mart or Zellers. But, I was walking around the area yesterday and I thought I should explore the store. Right when I walked in, it was a HUGE....HUGE store that had yarn EVERYWHERE. It was all neatly organized in rows and piles. No wonder my teacher said "you can get drunk off yarn" from here. It was amazing. I walked around exploring and feeling the yarn, but I was really unsure of what yarn it was and stuff like that...I am still considered a beginner for knitting. So, I decide to ask one of the staffs that was walking around if she can show me some yarn that is under $10 that's good for beginners to use. She didn't really help much...all she said was, "Just walk around and the prices should be listed". Not helpful at all. Overall, if you know what you're after or you just love to self-explore the wonders of different types of yarn, you may have a really good experience here. But, for me, I thought it was a good store with poor customer service. Maybe I'll return again when I'm in the area and might just ask another worker next time! read more

Totally overwhelming! The store is SO big and there's SO much yarn. Bought some amazing stuff on sale from the basement. It is messy and crowded but that's whatever. The really bad part is that I went there with my husband and couldn't stay forever! Definitely check it out - maybe you'll see the Yarn Harlot there! read more

Romni Wool - Knitting Supplies Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Update: I've been back to Romni several times since the first review and have also visited several other places. Toronto is a good place to find yarn at both the entry and rarified levels. My re-evaluation of Romni adds another star because every time I've been in since that first time, the staff have been palpably more pleasant. I'm not asking for help or anything, but I don't feel like they wish I would get out of their hair. Maybe I was in on angry staff day the first time. The basement is great. You just walk around fantasizing about your next project. I go there to see what will call out to me. And now that I know more about the world of knitting, I'm even more impressed with the selection in the store. read more

Overload of yarn matey's! Crickey where to start with this place, I am a kid in a candy store, I get so excited when I enter this place. It just be a really long freaking scarf. Or a freakish sweater that I would try and pon off on a friend as a gift, much to their horror.. and then guilt them out for not wearing it! Muhhhaaaa! KNITTING NIRVANA! Be warned, this is crunchy granola hippie handmade to the nth degree on every scale. The kind of visceral retail experience is nearly extinct... Long live ROMNI!! Staff is helpful and patient (and addicted like me)... no idea why yelpers complain about service. This is not a chain and their staff are as unique as the yarns they ply (joke). Every kind of every imaginable yarn/wool or needle/hook and book/pamphlet to go with it are all in one creaky dusty behemoth of a shop is here on W Queen W. Luxury wool, silk, bamboo, in every weight and colour. Bargoon basement (check out the cones, weigh in when you buy, weigh out when you return!) is a must for me. Have found all kinds of goodies down there, even cashmere, YES CASHMERE! Their kooky website (its the end of 2012 and all references are for 2010-11) is generally kept updated with sale news, watch for discounts in July and on the super awesome Boxing Day sale (go early, be patient). I am planning on going tomorrow to get only 1 ball of yarn for my nephew's Xmas gift (hat), but I must generally limit my Romni access and adding to my already gigantic stash willy nilly. Help me I'm a hoarder!! Have been knitting since I could read and buying yarns all over town, but Romni is the only place I return to over and over. Gotta run now... less typing, more knitting! read more

It's a bit pricey, but OMG the selection they have is phenomenal. If you are an addict of the hook or needle this is the place to go. Be prepared to spend gobs of cash as there is so much to get. They have a wonderful selection of books and patterns on sale. And in the basement area are some really good deals to be had. One of the best places in Toronto to go to for yarn. It is possible to get into the shop in a wheelchair but because the aisles are so narrow with all the inventory on sale it would be difficult to navigate a wheelchair or even an infant stroller. read more

I heart Romni. Every time I go to Toronto I hit this place up and drop like $300, then figure a way to get it all back home. It is a maze of happiness. Upstairs is full price yarn, rows upon rows and stacks upon stacks of yarn. Downstairs is a dungeon packed to the brim of discounted dreams. It's amazing. I can't go in there with a project in mind, because not only do I not full fill my ask, I come out with a million other items. The staff is fairly good. I was overcharged for something, went back the next day and they totally sorted it out. I had limited interaction with them other than that. This place is a yarn hoarders dream land. read more

I've been coming here for over 5 years and I'm constantly amazed by the amazing selection of yarn. You can't help but fall in love with everything. You can find alpaca, bamboo, wool! Sparkly, pastel, neutral etc etc . Its amazing and never disappointing... Save for the TERRIBLE SERVICE! The girls there look like they want to shoot themselves in the face. Don't ever expect a hello or a smile. Don't even ask for help finding a particular brand or fiber. They basically ignore you expect for when they tell you how much to pay and if you want a bag. I honestly don't understand how miserable they are! Like actually... If you want your mood ruined by their yarn snobbery and bitchiness... Then make sure to pop by romni! read more

I have no idea why people have said that the service at Romni is bad, because I found all of the staff to be very helpful; every single one of them answered my questions cheerfully, no matter how n00b they were. The selection is huge, and even people like me who can't tolerate wool will have a lot of choices - merino, alpaca, yak, blends with silk, cashmere, bamboo, soy, milk protein, microfibres, etc. Everything was a bit pricy - the good stuff is all somewhere between $10 - $16 - but extremely good quality and in a wide range of colours. Definitely a winner! read more

Great selection of yarns from low to high-end. Romni has everything so much stock that it would be hard not to find yourself walking out with a bag or three of yarn. The best is the bargain basement - so many great deals!. I could (have) spend hours here. Many people have complained about the staff in their reviews, but I found them to be very helpful and chatty. cons: there is so much here (yarn everywhere you can see from floor to ceiling) that it can get a little overwhelming. read more

Tremendous variety of yarns available at all price points. Broad range of accessories, pattern books upstairs and a great choice of bargain yarns downstairs. If you need help, it's always available if you have a good idea of what you want. Sometimes the plethora of choices can be overwhelming. My only criticism is that they don't offer a winding service. Discount this year for Boxing Day sales is less than previous years. read more

Romni most definitely has the best selection of yarn in the city. As other reviews have said, the place is a labyrinth, stacked high with all sorts of different fibers and colours. It's impressive, inspiring and the sort of place you could get lost in for hours if you are a yarn fiend. Which I am. I give the place three stars because the staff is more-miss-than-hit. Only a few times visiting Romni have I been assisted by someone enthusiastic and helpful. One time, the guy working even asked to see my pattern and eagerly helped me to find a substitute yarn. However the majority of the time I've been in, the staff have been borderline rude. Not just unhelpful or dismissive - which is also par for the course here with some Romni staff - but actually RUDE. Dirty looks, shrugging off questions without even bothering to provide a vocal answer, eye-rolling - I mean, C'MON. I get that you're Real Knitters and the rest of us peons are just pathetic amateurs, but this is a business, you're a rude hipster, and the place is pretty expensive. Plus, I AM A REAL KNITTER. SEE THIS PATTERN FOR A CABLED CARDIGAN I BROUGHT IN, NAIVELY HOPING SOMEONE WOULD POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF THE YARN OR A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT?! Get ready to shell out the bucks if you're planning a large project. I saw yarn for sale here at $12 a skein that I had found elsewhere for $5. So make sure you've shopped around. I also find their stock often limited in terms of colourway quantity - many times I have been unable to purchase enough of the colour/type of yarn I need to make a project. I admit I mostly purchase yarn online these days. Sadly, I find this "yarn store snobbery" is pretty common in a lot of Toronto yarn stores. At least Romni is large enough that you can easily get lost among the colourful aisles, and don't have to look at the staff. 'Cuz they sure won't be approaching you to assist. read more

For knitters, walking into Romni Wools is like walking into a beautiful dream: The back room is like a warehouse of yarns of all types, loosely organised by weight. The floors are usually an almost-impassable maze of bags of yarn, and it's easy to get lost amongst all the fibres, colours, textures, imagining all the lovely things you could create. There are swatches for practically every product, so you can see what the yarn will knit into, and many finished sweaters, mittens, and the like are for sale for those without the crafter's touch. Romni's basement houses yarn on discount, again, an impressive selection, and another room is filled with shelves of knitting books and patterns. Needles and other accessories line the wall near the entrance. If you're looking for something, just ask. Camel wool? They've got it. I'm not sure any knitting store in this world can come close to Romni's splendour. I love this place. read more

I think this is the BEST yarn store in Toronto. They are HUGE, SO MANY yarn for you to digest! They carry almost everything, except those INDIES, or something like Koigu, Lorna Laces. Other than that ,they are super! Patterns: HUGE LIBRARY, they carry all kind of knitting magazines (but not Phildar/Rebecca) like Rowan, Interweave, Malabrigo, Elle Rae, Louisa Harding..etc. Don't forget to go downstair to check out the roving, the discount sections (two rooms now!) for those discontinued yarn!! They also carry buttons (Not a lot), all kinds of needles, spindles, tools for needle felting, knitting bags, needles cases. If you are a student, bring your ID and they will give you 10% off. KEep your receipt and if you don't like the yarn in the future, or you don't need that much , you can bring them back with the receipt, they are happy to give you a credit note for future use. (Just make sure that the yarn is unused) Few things I dont' really like is: the location is in Downtown area, you need some time to find a parking spot on the street. And there is no washroom, why say that? Because I spent too long in Romni, and then asked if they have washroom, no, they don't. I have to go to the Second cup next to them. HA! They don't open on Sunday now, just be aware of that. They used to have big sales on boxing day (25% off everything), and winter sales (discount on WINTER yarn) , during July, they will have sales on everything (20% off?) (if you want to bring your baby in, you have to leave your stroller at the front desk, and then you have to carry your baby around. To me, this is not very convenient. ) read more

I am only a beginner in the craft of all things sheepy and yarn related. So when I picked up sculptural needle felting I found it rather difficult to find a supplier close to home. After a lot of research I discovered Romni and decided to pop in to see if they had the wool roving I was looking for. To my alarm, this store has a plethora of supplies. The staff were ready to help but not intrusive. And when faced with my niche craft they did their best to get me the right product suited for me needs at a reasonable price. I was very pleased at their selection, and will return in the future. read more

Very expensive. Yarn heaven though! Basement selection is great for small projects like socks. I was very upset this week to open my romni wool angora silk and find the yarn tied off in many places. Like over six spots in 200 m. Is this normal when using natural fibres? Never had this issue when buying Micheal's natural wools. I hope it doesn't untie read more

The yarn selection is amazing, as several people have pointed out. The needle display, on the other hand, is like a refugee camp, huddled by the doorway so you have no room to look for the needles you need, and they are so disorganized that you won't be able to find the size you need anyway. Buy the needles online, and buy the yarn at Romni. read more

More yarn of all weights, types and materials than I've seen almost anywhere. A bit of an emphasis on lugubrious or over-bright colours (or is it just the fluorescent lighting?), but there is an amazing selection. The staff are nice and helpful, and the place has a bargain-basement feel to it (especially the bargain basement, where everything is 40% off) which is a nice change from the precious environment of some yarn shops. read more

This place is the best. The first time I went in here I was like a kid in a candy store. The main floor is filled from ceiling to floor with every yarn you can imagine. Do yarns are of average price for high end yarns. The main floor also has a sectional full of just needles hooks and patterns. The real treasure of this place is the bargain basement. You can find everything from silk to tweed to organic cotton with a huge discount. Since I normally I'm shopping on a budget, I usually just stick to the bargain basement. There is an older man that is usually in the bargain basement, I think he might be the owner, Who is absolutely fantastic and will find whatever you're looking for. If you are looking for nice yarn at a decent price I highly recommend this place for the bargain-basement alone. read more

yes! first to review romni. kickass. romni is by far my favourite yarn store in toronto. it is absolutely HUGE. they have every yarn you will ever need, except they do not sell acrylics at all. they do have a huge selection of low- and high- end brands, plus magazines (old and new) and pattern books, their own line of wool yarn, and... (the best part)... the bargain basement if i was the luckiest person alive, the basement of romni wools would be my apartment. but i'm not, so i only get to go there every once in awhile. there are two full rooms, piled from floor to ceiling with discounted yarns. some is low-end novelty stuff, but some is debbie bliss and pure angora. the prices at romni upstairs are average as far as canadian pricing goes, but the basement is about 20-50% off usually. they give a student discount so don't forget your ID if you have one. they also have a huge selection of needles, but they are all pretty expensive. addi turbo's are in the $20 range. read more

Much like other posters have commented, this is not the place to come if you need help or are interested in customer service in any way. Holy Yarn, Batman! This place is a knit enthusiasts dream! I've recently started crocheting again, and I stopped by to pick up some new hooks since it's so close to my work. As you're walking around, you can't help but feel inspired about your next project because of all their options. I know I'm set to spend a small fortune here. read more

This is THE yarn-store to go to in Toronto if you only have time to see one. The sheer size of it is nearly overwhelming; we're talking hundreds upon hundreds of square feet, and that's just the main floor. Like cotton? There's 3/4 of a long aisle of it at the back, and then there are the other plant-fibre blends to the right at the front of the store. Silk? All sorts of things available, including some European varieties so high-end that you aren't allowed to open the packaging until after you purchase them. And so on. In the basement are two delightfully mazelike rooms full of overstock and sale-items; if you're after a bargain, have a look for discontinued yarns being let go for very little. Even upstairs it's sometimes very hard not to buy everything! read more

Wow, what a shameful pile of attitude in this place! Spent an hour there this week looking at yarn and while I was there the staff leaned on the counter telling stories mocking their customers. I could hear them clear to the back of the store. They made fun of people who come in and don't ask questions using the right terminology, or try to describe a pattern or concept from memory, and people who spend a lot of time looking at colours only to select the first one they picked... listen, if you're so disdainful of your clientele go for a drink after work and tell your snarky stories. Or maybe just get off your high horse in the first place. Two days later I came back with an unopened package of needles that I needed to exchange, I'd grabbed the wrong size (was in a rush to get out of there at that point). I'd spent $50 and was exchanging $8 for $12 needles. This is good for Romni, right? Wrong apparently! I'm super friendly and was rewarded with unsmiling surliness. Was told there's no exchange on needles. When I asked how I was meant to know this policy, the young woman there said "well we're not going to tell every single person who buys needles!!!" Uhhhh, why not? Also was told it's a pretty common policy at yarn stores. So I should already know that too? She told me people would take them home, knit, then return them. If that's such a common problem make sure every person who buys them is aware there are no returns or exchanges! Finally she exchanged them "this one time" as if it was a huge favour (I'd had them for 48 hours and they hadn't been opened plus Romni made a $4 additional profit, you're welcome). I'm truly disgusted by the attitude, do you not want new customers? Surprisingly, as others have noted, not everyone in the place sucks, two people there were friendly and helpful. So why do they tolerate having snarky jerks on staff? Giant turn off. read more

The selection of yarn and size of this store is impressive. The customer service? TERRIBLE. I have never in all the times I've been in this store been asked if I needed or wanted help. When you ask for help the girls behind the counter point in a vague direction and say "it's over there". When I take my selections up to pay I get ignored other than taking my money. No one smiles, no one takes any interest in me. They chat with the other staff, but not with the customers. I don't need them to be my best friend, but eye contact wouldn't hurt. I would not suggest going to this store if you're looking for an interactive or helpful environment. The prices are about on average (if a little high) compared to other stores in the GTA. read more

I love this store, any yarn you are looking for is there and then some. I allow lots of time to browse and look and feel all the yarns. However, in reading some of the reviews, I am perplexed. What are they talking about when they say the service is nil. In my experience it is quite the opposite as I had help from not one, not two but three employees in total during just one visit. Yes, they also leave you alone to browse but who needs a tour guide to shop for yarn. Since I had not bought enough yarn and didn't realize that until I started my project, I called the store and had more help in locating my yarn, dye lot, etc. and they sent the remainder needed by mail very quickly. What more could I ask for. signed, Dianne M. read more
