Brought in a rose carmine crochet sweater to be shortened. i was told that this work could be done. once completed, the sweater came back entirely unevenly hemmed. I returned to the store to see what could be done to fix the issue and only at that time was I informed that it was due to nature of the material that there was no solution. when I asked why I wasn't told this information at the onset of the repair I was offered a shrug. when I politely asked if she wanted to offer a refund for ruining my sweater, the answer was that the work I asked to be done was completed. no professionalism, no courtesy, no customer service, no accountability, not even an apology offered. I came here for expertise, and left with a ruined item. do not recommend. read more

I have had a number of sweaters repaired here. This time it was a cream coloured cashmere long sweater with three holes that were a little less than a half inch in diameter. The work is so expert that I can't see where the repairs were made. I can say the same for all previous sweaters which were different wools and stitches. I continue to be amazed by the results and the price is SO reasonable! read more

I can't say enough about how impressed I was with the repairs done by Wendy. I was fostering a lovely puppy who had a weird appetite for wool and an eye for my favourite knitwear - along with two alpaca/merino hats and a sweater dress, he chewed a 2" diameter hole in a very expensive alpaca/cashmere sweater. I thought it was over and started looking to see if I could replace the sweater - sold out. I sent it to The Wool Mill expecting it would be just too big a hole to repair and when I picked it up I couldn't believe it. I had to look for the repair and it's barely noticeable when I wear it. As Wendy informed me in advance, it's not a completely invisible repair, but pretty damn close! Amazing! She saved my favourite sweater! I don't hesitate to recommend The Wool Mill for repairs and they seem to have a gorgeous selection of wool as well. Thanks so much! read more

I'm giving The Wool Mill 4.5 stars. This is a cozy little neighbourhood shop where every bit of space (floor to ceiling) is utilised. They don't stock everything I want but, they do have a HUGE variety of yarns and will order your request for you if they don't have it stocked. I enjoy spending time time there looking through the offerings - I always make sure to dive through the sale bins for some GREAT deals. The price range, and as mentioned, the inventory varies widely (something for everyone). There is a fairly wide selection of yarn crafting tools and, a good variety of knitting magazines, books and pattern leaflets. The staff is wonderful. I stop in often to get help with a pattern, and help is always graciously forthcoming. They never mind me dropping in randomly, having a seat, pulling out my needles and chatting up a storm - it seems a lot of the clientele and neighbourhood knitters have the same idea. The proprietor is a knowledgeable and highly skilled knitter, she and another staffer offer classes and there is a repair and finishing service on offer. Again, this is a wonderful, charming little shop - I enjoy the warm, friendly vibe at this place and recommend it highly. EDITED TO ADD: Subtracted a half star for lack of a website. It would be nice to see an online list of offerings but, I can respect that not everyone needs or wants to be online. read more

This store isn't that great at all, I mean, the service is so-so. Everywhere is yarn but not very well organized, and there are some bags of discounted yarn on the floor (yeah, on the floor) . And you need to knee down and then find your bag of goodies. Look, they are even under the table.. it's quite embarassing to find yarn like that. Seems like she has a lot of baby yarn, I remember she told me that she loves knitting baby stuffs because they are fast to finish. She has some back issues of Interweave Knits, and I asked if she has certain issue (at that time I was looking for a particular one) , then she said "I don't like Interweave!" oh well, I found my issue. She doesn't have too many hand dyed yarn, or indies. Parking is not a big problem, there are some parking spots on the street. sorry, no website. read more

I have only been here a couple of times, but I have always found what I was looking for. They have a good selection of yarns, and the staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. There is often a "lesson" going on when I'm in the store, and it's always great to see people learning how to knit! Small independent wool shops seem to be going the way of the Dodo, which is sad, so it's wonderful to have a neighbourhood shop like this, that I hope keeps thriving! The Wool Mill is a place where you need to slow down, take your coat off, and kinda of be patient to appreciate the place. While the store is quiet tiny and every surface, nook, and cranny is filled with supplies, there is a learning curve to get to know the place - yet, once you 'get' the logic of the place (and the owner) the place suddenly becomes full of treasures and great finds as well as providing staple items. I like the place because of the manner in which you need to slow down and ease into the place - Wendy, the owner is always so helpful: from deciphering a pattern for you to helping you pick appropriate yarns; how many times have i gone in with a WIP (work in progress) where i am stuck on some tricky thing and she helps not only solve this momentary issue but ensures that I am confident with the remainder of the work. Yes, this makes the store quiet specific and based on one person for optimal and expert service (there are other staff, none, unfortunately, as patient and knowledgeable as the owner) but when i have the time and the inclination I thoroughly enjoy my trips to the Wool Mill. Yet, if you want walls of stuff easily found and negotiated without the personal go to one of the big places (as i do when that is my need) - but if you want to support a computer-free internet-less sit around the kitchen table kind of yarn shop you found it. read more

This is my Local Yarn Store and I really love that its so cozy. There's always time to chit chat and knit by the window. I find the staff to be very warm and very helpful. I went here for the first time last week and i looooved it.If it wasnt for the distance from me, I would be a regular .EAsy TTC access on the Danforth, Wonderful friendly and helpful service, and patient too as I couldnt make up my mind! Not a huge selection ,but a very interesting one. some very reasonably priced yarns as well as really high end ones. This store, its my favorite lys. I have found the staff extremely knowledgeable and friendly and is the first place I head to if I have questions. They do a great job on repairing sweaters and other knitwear. I have also used their finishing service on occasion when I have been pressed for time. I find the store well laid out with a wide variety of choice and the prices aren't bad. I took a sock class there and learned a lot, good value for the money. read more

Went to The Wool Mill today for the second time. Only went because I had a gift certificate. They had nothing that I wanted. I ended up wih two pairs of 12" circular needles and 5 balls of sock yarn...for $135!!!!! What a rip off! I will never go back. The customer service didnt make up for lack of product and jacked up prices. And why were so many products on the floor? It just looked junky and messy. read more

Friendly service and helpful information. Went for yarn for a baby hat of which there was lots. Needle choices are mostly metal - a few wood and bamboo options. Didn't have a chance to look around for specialty products this time, but I will be back. Handy to have this place in the neighbourhood. read more

I was stunned by the vicious review of the Wool Mill. Yes, there is wool on the floor -- in bags of course. This just speaks to Wendy's great variety of yarns. She is endlessly talented and helpful, able to rescue knitters from their mistakes, no matter how awful. I have been a client for at least ten years and would not hesitate to recommend the Wool Mill -- as I have, repearedly. Anyone who allows herself to be persuaded by your previous correspondent will miss out on all the latest knitting and yardn fashions. read more
