I stop by this location when I have other errands to run in this part of town. This visit, I had my list ready to mark off, when I found what I needed. Usually it's ribbon to make money leis. The selection of ribbons, is okay. Not too spectacular- which ends up leaving me having to go elsewhere for the colors schemes and the type of ribbon... I needed a ribbon that was firm, not flimsy, and maybe an inch or so in width . No ribbon this time around. Found some wide eyed threading needles, which have been on my list for awhile. Different color options for twine. Now, for the artificial flowers... I think it's Ashland (?) that has the flower name labeled to the product. THANK YOU! And then, there were a few other artificial flower products that weren't labeled on the merchandise itself or on the shelves. The shelves had the SKU numbers- which doesn't help the consumer at all. Bummed on that- so, I had to order this specific item on Amazon. WHERE ARE THE PRICES!!! I love this store and location so much that it pains me to give it one star. The customer service is fantastic, the location and stock are wonderful, so many items to choose from. I could spend hours here. My only issue is they have no prices anywhere. They have signs that say 60% off of the original ticketed price, which would make sense if the items actually had clear pricing. Nothing in the store has an actual price, making shopping difficult and frustrating. I don't want to hear its tariffs just give me a clear ticketed price. Ultimately, I put all of my items back and just called it quits. So many stores are playing find the price at checkout now that I have been forced to shop more on Amazon, ruining the shopping experience. read more

I just spent two hours in this hell hole when I should've been in and out in probably 20 minutes max as soon as I got here, I asked two people for the two items that I was looking for. They supposedly told me isles that I could find them in, however they were very, very wrong. They never were seen again. Nobody was seen again. Nobody would help me. I go to check out with the other random stuff I end up getting, and the woman lets me stand there as if I'm actually waiting for her to help me out a cash register as opposed to doing it myself at a self check out that's way out of view and makes me just look like a complete fool. This woman has the audacity to help everybody else around me. Offer other people to check them out at a real register when she knows that I'm having issues, tells me I need to go online and sign up for some BS, what a waste of time energy and Just unnecessary dealing with horrible customer service. I hate even calling it Customer Service it's so not Customer Service you guys should be ashamed of yourselves and get a real fucking job that you can actually handle like maybe I don't know passing out papers on a corner. read more

Came here on my quest and mission for floral decor for an event. Unfortunately, I think I was a week late in my ads as the pricing I was expecting to pay was off just a bit! In any event we utilized the bathroom and the buzzer worked just as munchkin was stating we should go look for someone (right after I pushed the button)but they were super quick! The store seemed mostly stocked with the exception of sale/holiday items and I was able to grab some supplies. Dont forget that they typically have coupons on their app or online on their website! This Michael is huge, it has the most stock on poster frames with different sizes that other location didn't carry, just by a quick search on their website, I could find the frame 20x28 is on sale for $9.99 per item, so I was planning to order two and come here to pick up, but I was a bit skeptical because I thought maybe whatever showed online didn't not reflect whatever inside the store, I came and was surprised that the item was there but it was not on sale, instead it's $19.99 bogo which came out to about the same price with the online discount at the total of $21.54, one cent different in between, without any other discount that can be added, which is fine by me, I just don't understand why the store doesn't honor their online price or vice versa. They got good deal here by the way. I will probably ditch Mission Valley and come shop here instead. read more

I just got home and opened my box of my new art pedestal and was appalled that Michael's sold me a trashed one! It's damaged, covered in dirt and tape. I usually go to the Michael's in Mission Valley (MV), but we were in the neighborhood. Parking is a breeze at this locay compared to MV. Prices aren't the greatest at Michael's. Some items are quite pricey. I'll usually compare prices to Amazon unless it's something I need to purchase right away. We came here because my God Daughter asked me to help her out with a school project on the Sioux Indians (that of course was due the next day and she told me at the last minute). Her assignment was to create a small shoe box diorama along with a display board. So we found some miniature / model sized artificial grass, small Native American figures, and horses. With the other items we got from Target, we were able to create a nice little 3D shoe box model. It would be nice if the stores had more of a standardized organizational system. It would make finding things much easier. The layout of this store is different compared to MV. When it was time to check out, there were two lanes open and a lot of people lined up. They did eventually open up one or two more lanes, but the line did get longer. It was nice of them to try to get people checked out quicker, but they probably could have done it sooner rather than letting the line get longer. I'd sum this up as an average experience. They seem to hire the minimum number of staff to work the store and as a result, there is often a long wait to check out of the store. read more

No, this store is not the place to go to 'cheer yourself up.' Not at all. You walk in and its the typical bright, florescent-lit, aisled store of drone workers and flavorless shoppers. Here is how you approach Michael's: -Quickly run through the jungle of silk flowers. Don't make eye contact with them, they might eat you. -find what you came for. In my experience, a trip to Michael's is an intentional one...you aren't window shopping or making a day of it. Just get your scrap booking materials, yarn, fabric glue, frames...whatever. They pretty much have anything in the craft realm you can think of. -Go to a check out line, present your 40% coupon (you are dumb if you don't have one! they come every week in the mail.) -pay and leave. THAT is the protocol. I gotta say, their 40% off (sometimes 50%) one item deal on a consistent, weekly basis is the best retail deal in town. With either using that, or the item already being 40% off in store, you are never paying full price on a visit. And I don't know about you but I'm always game for keeping part of my money. Everyone has their thing, but my most frequent purchase at Michael's is frames. NOTE: I'm not talking about the framing center for custom things...I'm just talking about their standard frames. Best deal in town, hands down. From cheapies to nice frames you are always getting between 40 and 50% the original price. Just to give you an example, I just purchased a decent 24" x 36" frame with glass for $18. Or you can do their cheapest poster frame at that size (smaller border, and plastic instead of glass) after coupon or sale price for around $10. They also have standard mattes in all colors and sizes for only a coupon bucks - obviously more the bigger you get. I wouldn't buy frames anywhere else. Sure, you could go to walmart or something for comparable or slightly cheaper prices but you don't get as good a quality for the price of Michael's...or the selection for that matter. read more

This review is specifically for the store manager Tom. The service I received today was far beyond my expectations and he deserves to be recognized. I ordered same day delivery for several products to do a project today and although Uber said it was delivered, I never received the it and when I called their customer service number to inquire, they were of zero assistance. I called Michael's and luckily happened to speak to Tom. Within an hour I had a replacement on my front doorstep! Thank you so much for making my day! read more

Anytime I drop by here whether it is to browse or for a specific purpose, I seem to come out with more than I intended. And with yet another DIY project goodies that make me want to smack myself upside my head and knock some sens into myself. I cant seem to learn that my DIY projects needs to get done before I stray onto another project. So far I have gotten crystals here so that I can bling some stuff. Supplies like adhesives ans glue to help me bling things. Paints! Ooh yes, I actually completed some wine bottle painting projects!! I have yet so start or complete my compassion/ispiriational rock projects. In case your wondering this uses a different type of paint than the wine bottles. Have been going to this and other Michael's in SD for basically my whole life. This is one of the smaller, older ones and it tends to get crowded, and made a mess of during sales/holidays. But it's pretty decently stocked and not THAT hard to find help if you put in some effort to find an associate and ask (read: literally walk up and ask for help, don't just stand like a stump and expect to be fawned over). A note to the jackholes below, specifically JAAW B. and Grey M. I notice how many of you are middleaged or parents or people with crappy time management. Guess what - it's not the employees' fault if the store is understaffed, it's not their job to wait on you hand and foot. They have tasks and action items to work on, aside from juggling customer requests. You look like an idiot if you demonize the employees for what was likely an accident, which does happen with item holds sometimes fyi. Don't expect someone to stay past their shift just for you, they have a schedule and a life as well (and while you're at it why don't YOU try managing your time better and come in when they're not 5 mins to shutdown?). Not to mention retail workers tend to get a talking to if they stay past their shift, b/c nobody wants to pay them overtime. Nobody's willing to get in trouble for staying later, just bc you were STUPID enough to leave your family in the car so you could go shopping (yes, Grey M., you're stupid if you are an adult and do not comprehend that it is illegal, irresponsible, and unsafe to leave kids unattended in a car TO GO SHOPPING - prioritize, jeeeeesus). Also, read your d@mn coupons bc they SAY if they're "one per transaction", and if they are such then get back in line and do another purchase. All the people being uppity about not having exceptions made for them - you clearly have never worked in retail in your life. The cashiers have always been super friendly usually curious of what I am working on when ringing me up. I don't know nothing about arts and crafts -- at Michael's or anywhere else. I leave that to other people to review. This is a shout out to the folks in the framing department. Over the past year I have gone to the framing folks four times to have banged up old frames repaired or replaced, to get things framed to hang in my office, and to have art and photographs framed for the house. Each time someone different has waited on me. And each time the results have been excellent. The three framing girls and one guy (Will waited on me Monday evening) have been uniformly helpful. They have good suggestions about how to mat and frame things. They actually manage to appear interested in art and documents that have no personal meaning to them. And they're friendly as can be no matter how crowded the store is. They even have good suggestions for off-the-shelf frames. Technology has arrived in the framing business. They take a photo of your art and show you on the computer screen how it will look with different mats and frames. Pretty cool. Finally they somehow manage to figure out the complicated Michael's coupons. (You can download the coupons on your phone rather than bring in the insert from the Sunday paper,) Warning: except for the off-the-shelf frames, none of this is inexpensive. And I have no idea how to compare Michael's with anywhere else unless you actually take your stuff around from shop to shop and have it priced with equivalent frames and matting. Even with the coupons and discounts, 60% off of a lot of money is still a lot of money. P.S. I hate writing reviews that few will read and no one will vote for. I came here knowing that Michaels has absolutely an amazing inventory of everything DIY and everything Christmas. So when looking for additional pieces to add to my daughter's tree, I knew Michaels was the right place to go. OMG...i wish, wish, wish they had a Michaels in Hawaii. By now my cart is full and I'm wondering how in the world am I going to get this home with me! Christmas "on fleck" and all the halls were decked in red, white, green, gold, silver...you name it, it was there! Homespun Christmas ornaments retailing at $4.99 were on sale at 50% off! Come to think of it....the entire Christmas jing-a-lings were on sale for 50-60% off. From wreaths to balls and all the trimmings in between. It was Christmas decor on crack! Equal footing to the incredible, endless inventory were the amount of staff on the floor assisting shoppers! Every corner I turned I ran into an associate asking if I needed help. While in the frame and canvas section of Michaels I heard a manager speaking into her headset directing employees what to do. Unbelievable! The long line wasn't so long since they had staff scanning and bagging goods in the line, expediting the process to check out (we were given a card that we take to the register - at that time all our goods are already rung up and bagged - all we had to do was pay). What a great process!!! Initially I thought that maybe we should turn around and shop in Poway, closer to my daughter's place but since we were already in the area we decided to stop. I thought we were in a less desirable neighborhood and scoffed, "look at the storefront, it looks kinda ghetto where we're at." Who cared! Wonderful sales and the store is actually larger than it appeared to be at the front. Besides, there were so many elderly blue and silver haired women there that I felt safe. I am a big fan of Michaels, although this was my first visit at this location. This location does seem to be smaller than the others. They do seem to be fully stocked with items of every category, although I also found it hard to search for specific items. We went through every single aisle to look for all the items we needed. And some of the items were in random places, not all next to each other. There was an item that was sold out, and we asked an employee to see if there was any more inventory at that store or any other locations and she was able to find it at another store, which was nice. We visited on a weekday and surprisingly it was busy! There was a long line just to make purchases. We weren't able to ask for help since it appears the employees were at the cash wrap. We finally did find the vases on the shelves out front but we didn't find what we were specifically looking for. Note: Get a coupon online and get it texted to your phone. Easy to get to, plenty of parking, helpful counter staff, well stocked. A good craft store that has plenty of items to choose from packed into one of this chain's smaller stores. All was well organised and easy to find what you are looking for. Bright, clean, and tidy. One issue ... not enough floor staff to assist you if you do need help. When you find one they just hurry you to where you need to go and then leave you without a pleasant greeting or to see if you need any further assistance.
