I refuse to eat here. One day my sister and I were dining during diner time and I order the ravioli and my sister order the typical diner dish, hamburger with fries. Her burger was tasty and the fries were perfect (even though I am not a huge french fry eater). When I ate a few pieces of ravioli, I noticed something chunky in my sauce. I pulled it out and it was a small plastic piece. Not sure from where but I brought it to the managers attention. He inquired if I wanted to eat something different and I refused his kind offer. I can tell the manager was upset because he was yelling at the cook in the kitchen. Ever since then, I have not stepped foot into the restaurant. What make this place awesome is that it's open 24 hrs and for a student growing up in the neighborhood, that's clutch. I always use to order their Chicken Caesar Wraps - it is awesome here. There use to be an Italian priest in the neighborhoos that, after the 11:45am mass on a Sunday, he's go here for brunch and the line would be out the door. When he would see some of his parishoners already seated and eating, he became privvy to the fact they were skipping out a little early after mass to get a good seat for breakfast/brunch. Michaels on Broadway is awesome. Don't mistake if for Mikes on 31st street (by Ditmars Blvd) b/c they are two completed different diners. I love breakfast and Michaels does it right. The portions are enormous and the food here is always solid. It can get a bit packed on the weekend but its worth the wait. I love it when you sit at the booths, there are pictures of how Astoria looked like in 1900 and how it looks like now. The food here are always solid and you never leave hungry. read more

Denial of dangerously raw roast beef. There's a fine line between rare and raw. That line was dangerously crossed today. I brought back entire sandwich without a bite taken. Was told "it's fine, it's roast beef by waiter. This was spoken before viewing the bloody mess. Roast beef and I go back a long time. I love rare and more often then not, it's overcooked so obviously I strive for a rare. But this was disgusting and dangerously raw. What did I want ? A replacement at first with one that was rare not raw . After hearing denial remark, i let them know I am a chef and that ended there denial. I was equally upset at product and there denial. Have tried many things here & enjoyed them all. Recently had the ravioli in a tomato cream sauce w/melted mozzarella that was good and very impressed with chicken francese last time I had it here. I'm not a seafood person and I even enjoyed the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms. They have specials where you get soup/salad, bread, choice of entree, coffee/tea and choice of dessert for $16-$19. Some of these even include steak and high-end seafood choices. The cheesecake is really good for the dessert option. In addition they have specials from 5-8pm where u can get wine for $4 and other specials on alcohol. We had Maria as our server and she was so pleasant and very attentive, I never had to wait for a water refill or extra napkins or anything, she was on top of it - great service. Love this place! Went in today for lunch and got a vegetarian wrap with sweet potato fries and a sweet tea. The sandwich was so flavorful and not overpowering like some sandwiches that you order. The fries were good also not to greasy and didn't irritate my stomach and that was a good thing because a lot a greasy food does. The only thing that was a small problem was that it took my waiter about 15 minutes to bring my ice tea out but other then that everything went well. read more

We had terrifying experience at this restaurant while having dinner not too long ago. I thought I should share this experience asap. The food was either bland or salty. The BBQ chicken wrap was dry. Portion was huge and it came with desserts, which made me wonder if it was their way of compensating us for the imperfect dish. So the highlight of our dinner was this uninvited huge centipede crowling on my daughter's arm (4 yrs old) while she's having her free ice cream. I screamed as soon as I noticed it. My daughter was scared and very terrified. She clung on to me the rest of the night. I'm embarrassed but I'm not sorry at all for screaming. I was scared! We were able to tolerate a fruit fly chilling on our table but not a giant centipede. The only person who came to us to see what was going on was the busboy. No apologies from the management (probably too embarrassed to admit they have issues). It was by far it was the worst experience we've ever had while eating out. For this reason, we will never return to Michael's. read more

Although some of the more recent reviews gave a great portrayal of Michael's Restaurant, my visit this evening left me quiet disappointed. Food- Overall the food was rather one dimensional and felt like it was lacking in seasoning especially salt. We (my girlfriend and I) order a side of coleslaw as an appetizer, it was bland and a bit runny, lacked salt and pepper. I than order the GIANCARLO panini-I liked the pita bread used for the panini but sadly the sandwich kept falling apart, making it difficult to eat. The SWEET potato fries were impressive though (only thing we would re-order from our dinner) The lady had LAURA'S pizza, the crust was soggy and vegetables were bland again with mozzarella covering too much of the pizza and making it lose flavor. Service-Again, like the food had some bright moments but was overall poor. I credit the bus boy for our somewhat positive experience as he was the only one taking care of us. Our waiter was more interested in giving his numbers to the tourist behind us and walking and waiting with them for a taxi. He also over charged us a dollar which we did not care to argue with as the check had taken 20 minutes to arrive. Hopefully Michael's restaurant is more successful during its morning shift. read more

I've been here a few times during the day and it was good. However, at night, or should I say early morning, it falls apart. I ordered a simple cheese omelet. Not only did it arrive 15 min later and COLD, I was very disappointed. The toast is burnt and the coffee tastes like it was in the pot for 4 hours and just kept getting reheated. It was burnt and tasted terrible. Tonight is the last time I spend $13 on something I'm not eating. I will go to the diner closer to my home, on the way home from Astoria. Michael's Restaurant is a good diner in the heart of the Astoria Broadway area, open 24/7 with good portions and decent food. I really, really want to give it four stars, and perhaps I'll update my review after trying some non-breakfast dishes, but for now, it stays at three! There aren't any better options in the immediate area (the next best being on 30th and Steinway), so if you want breakfast or diner food, then Michael's is the place to go. The food is pretty good, I've had french toast and eggs benedict here, and both came out in decent portions, hot, and tasting good! It's a little more expensive than a diner should be, but being one of the few 24/7 diners in the area, that can be expected. All in all, you should try Michael's Restaurant out. I ate there so many times it was my second home... Most of the food is excellent and if I may recommend the cheese cake, it is sinful. The portion sizes are huge, and you do get a lot for your money. My reason for not giving 5 stars is the weekend and more specifically Sunday brunch. That place turns into a frantic zoo, with people standing everywhere, waiting for a table, the waiters can barely get to your table and of course the level of noise is out of this world. However, if you do get through all that, it is a great place to eat and service is good for a dinner. read more

Looking for a diner-esque restaurant, Michael's was what we were recommended. It was described to us as an almost uppity diner. And those couldn't be more truer words. Walking in you feel like you're in a more than casual restaurant - but a glance at the menu and you're reminded of more diner style foods. I ordered the Patty Melt Deluxe - Grilled Cheese and Beef Burger with Fried Onion, Lettuce, and Tomato. WOW. This burger just melted in my mouth and I couldn't get enough of it. I wanted to give Michael's a 5 Star rating, but I have to deduct one star based on the waiter. His English wasn't that great and he was very hard to hear as he seemed to speak under his breath. Along with that, all the employees seemed more wrapped up in the soccer game that was showing on the television than their patrons. Not bad. The Greek food is so-so, but they have great dessert. My cousin and best friend visited this summer, and we ordered dinner and dessert from Michael's. My landlady recommended them, too. Solid diner. You won't find anything too crazy at Michael's, but you will find a cozy, slightly hidden respite from Broadway. As soon as you walk in the waiters are at you attention and kindly guiding you to your table. Water, silverware, napkins, bread and butter are promptly placed in front of you, as you look through the impressive menu. I actually had a hard time choosing what to order, because there were a number of items I wanted. Always a good sign! I decided to go with the homemade veggie lasagna, and holy cow (no pun intended) it was huge. I actually had to bring half home for lunch the next day. I adore Michaels! The food is great, and the staff friendly. They have a huuuuuge menu with plenty of variety. But the key to Michaels is ordering their dinner specials. For less than $15, you get soup or salad, bread, an entree with veges and potato, dessert and coffee. WOW! My roommates and I are there at least a few times a month and we've never had a bad meal. Michaels is hit or miss for me usually. Never a single star review, just bounces between 2 and three stars for me. Its clean, the waiters are efficient, sometimes, but not overly friendly. Maybe it's different if you're a regular. I will say though, that the experience I had this time was a solid three. Great waiter, attentive service and my burger was tasty. Not to mentioned it was cooked correctly, medium was medium, not well-done. I probably could have ordered it medium-well and it would have arrived medium-well, but I wasn't up for the gamble this time. Michaels has a GIGANTIC menu. So in the category of variety they could probably score a 3.5, but I do have to wonder if the menu was smaller, would the dishes served be better tasting and more consistent? 4.5 stars We've been here a few times over the past 6 months or so, mostly for breakfast, once for dinner. Food is good, solid diner food, and portions are hearty. Service is friendly and quick, although our most recent waiter seemed a little absent-minded. Overall, everything was fine. No matter what diner I'm at, I always get the same thing for breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled, with bacon well done. Now, you might think that this is a simple order, but some places manage to screw it up. Most diners overcook their eggs, which is disappointing but I can deal with it. At Michael's, their scrambled eggs are like heaven - soft, and a little wet, exactly what scrambled eggs should be. My fiance tried the granny pancakes, and they were a big hit - pancakes with walnuts, raisins, and bits of apple in the batter. I would have never imagined this combo in a pancake, but I tasted them, and they were fantastic! I especially enjoy the photographs that hang over every booth - old photos (from the 1920s and 30s) from around Astoria, next to current-day photos from the exact same spot. Very cool touch. If I lived closer to Michael's, I would definitely be a regular. read more

Strictly rating this as a diner, as everyone should. Some friends and I decided to grab a quick bite after Sleep No More, and walked in to Michael's. We ordered a variety of sandwiches and fries. Nothing particularly stood out as negative. The nice guys at the diner were attentive (though a little overly attentive) and we got our good quickly. I had myself the fajita panini. Pretty good. I've only ever had breakfast at Michael's, but I can confirm that it is just as good after midnight as it is first thing in the morning. We went there for a family Sunday lunch. We were greeted by nice and smiling staff, promptly led to our table and quickly attended by the waitress. While waiting for our order I looked around and liked the interior, mostly color pictures of old Queens, I'd say from 1960's - 70's. Really nice. Ceiling would deserve some real change it is in stark contrast with nice walls, just white tiles, obviously they don't look up too often... Also, if you are cheating on your wife or husband, this is not place to go. Boxes are next to each other, everything and everybody is visible from everywhere. Two TV screens seem to be not useful, the placement of tables and boxes make it quite hard to follow what's on. Definitely don't go there to watch NFL match, but have a few drinks with your pals or to dine with your (small) family is just fine. Our meals were really delicious, my steak with two eggs was just right, my wife's panini was huge and tasty. Desert - strawberry ice cream -was very good, made of real milk you could feel it. Price are very reasonable if not really small for such huge portions, we asked to pack our leftovers to take away, no problem there either. I don't hesitate to recommend. read more
