This location is close to public transportation. Long time ago, this location had friendly staff that would help you . Now the people they hire are just rude. There used to be price check scanner machines all over the store. Now there are no more price check scanners. I am only giving this location two stars is because it is close to the Q11 and Q53 buses on Woodhaven Blvd. Makes public transportation easy and convienent. read more

This store is always a hot mess. Do not do pick-up orders in this store because if they don't have the item, they do not let you know. You must check your bag before leaving the store in front of a workers i have ordered a Santa, and instead of telling me it wasn't available. They waited till I got to the store. And then said is not there and after speaking to me. They sent me an email saying I canceled when I did not cancel when asked to speak to a supervisor/manager. The manager walked away when I got to him. He said just go to the cashier. I tried to ask him if they would another Santa in the store. So I can pick that 1 up. And he just left without answering me. I feel like that's very rude and disrespectful. At the end of the day, there was no way to resolve this situation They also said they don't sell this Santa smh read more

I've never really shopped here but I needed to get some picture and posters framed and this is the place for that. Seems like they have everything related to art for sure and pictures. The ultimate arts and crafts store ha. They have tons of different options for framing as well as show casing, like sports memorabilia etc. Great place to decide how to set up a home office or just decorating a room as far as pictures and posters. The store itself is on the second floor. You have to take escalators or an elevator to get up to the store. It's a decent sized store. Check out was a breeze when I was there. Depends on how many they have open but there are a lot or registers. Parking can be nightmare in this area. Shared lot with Trader Joe's so it is always busy. read more

This is one of the more organized Michaels craft & hobby stores. The one in Fresh Meadows, which is huge and blessed with a large parking lot has become a chaotic mess. So I'd rather drive the extra few miles to have a hope of what I want to find. It's pretty quiet here, just an escalator flight above Staples and the mob scene that is Trader Joe's. Finding a parking spot here is a challenge, but if you go around the side, people are always pulling out. Once you cop a squat on a spot, you can shop at some of the other stores in the area as well. My hobby supply needs are simple. I like to build plastic models and model rockets, which Michaels has limited selections, as well as for enamel paints and X-acto tools. One thing to remember is never to pay full retail price on anything here. Always wait for a sale or use one of the coupons online or in the weekly sales circulars. They can be as much as 40%, 50% or 60% off a single regular priced item (non-sale priced) or sometimes 20% off an entire purchase, so shop smart. read more

I'm not a crafts person but when I need to get something custom framed, I go to Michaels. On my last visit I noticed there were a lot of sales associates on the floor and they were helpful in directing people where they needed to go. I went straight to the back to have some items framed. When I got there an associate Jon (or John) was assisting a couple. I waited about 30 minutes while he helped them. I appreciated that when he realized their order would take some time, he told me I could start looking into mats and frames for my items. He was so helpful and very knowledgeable about the products and prices. Great customer service!!! read more

Writing about Michael's classes that they offer. This one is for their free Knitting/Crocheting for a hat. Thought there would be a teacher, waited and no one showed up. Went to the staff at register and she called for assistance. Told me to wait someone will be there. Found out these free classes are not taught by teachers but by staff members at Michael's. The woman that came was a staff on the floor and not one of their teachers. She never did the project herself which was to knit/crochet a hat. She asked if we can do something else. She was nice and really tried. Asked to see the manager. Manager came and said it's a free class and that I would have to pay for classes if I wanted to be taught by a teacher. I was very shocked. So it's a free class which is not the point. You want to introduce people to your products and services. The manager really missed the boat. Level of customer service was not great on her part. I guess in her mind free is whatever you get. Not the way to promote products to consumer or even help someone who wants to learn how to knit/crochet. The staff was very professional and apologize. She got it. It does not matter if free or paid course. You promoted a course and got people to come and you can not produce anything. What does that say about your company. Learned how to roll ball of yarn and figure out how to separate the yarn tied together. It is apparent that Michaels has lots of classes and stuff for kids and rooms are busy with children at this store. Dunno about classes for adults. read more

I love browsing Michaels and always pick up some yarn and other goodies. The inspiration is endless. But they keep their restroom off limits to customers. You used to be able to ask staff for access, but no more. According to Customer Care, restrooms are supposed to be available to customers. Initially, they had an Employees only sign. Pick your method of travel to the 2nd floor, escalator or huff the steps like I did --- I Must have burnt a whole half of a calorie, caught my breath and in I went. Wide open and spacious enterance allowed me to glance hither and tither upon the display cases, I'm still unsure the application of Mermaid Slime but Michaels has pleanty if your lookin'. Looking for a portable and storable suitable solution for my multitude of Rock & Roll posters, I looked through their ample inventory but did not find one that fit my needs. The prices seemed very steep, knowing a purchase was not at hand I perused the wares further. Twelve dollars for a stamp without ink for a tree design resembling that of Minis Tirith, steep again. Not a big fan of fake flowers but a look never hurt, unless getting pricked by a metal barb previously anchoring a bloom. After blood was drawn & I considered the service wasn't very good with the questions I had about the architect case & the sticker shock & steeple steep prices, it was time to take my leave. read more

Always fun to shop at Michaels and staff seem to work pretty hard here to keep items in stock as well as the store neat and tidy. They have frequent sales, too. Downfall is the length of the checkout line versus the amount of cashiers open...which I assume isn't the cashier's fault, but the company itself not wanting to hire more people. Add in those few customers who always have a lengthy list of items to return/exchange/argue about, and you know you're going to be waiting for a bit before checking out. If you can, take public transit to get here---because parking is an absolute nightmare as others have mentioned. read more

Store #8785 As an avid scrapbooking, I used to LOVE Michael's Crafts stores but where I once attained all my crafts materials but their selection and inventory stock level for major brand names has greatly declined. What I seek at Michael's is what I was unable to attain for Scotch's scrapbooking double-sided removable tape. Retail's busiest time of the year, the holidays and they do not restock basic craft items??! This is the holidays 2012 as many items on the shelves are empty with only the hooks and price tag but no product. AIJA! Price is very steep for rubber stamps and the ink pads are overpriced for $10.00 each- whoa!! Staff is difficult to locate as there is no one physically holding the fort on the floor to seek assistance and are stolid with their dismissive attitude to customers. In up-keeping with the growing presence of scrapbooking as a craft hobby, Michael's produces their own brand which has a strong presence throughout this store #8785. The checkout queue is backup for ten minutes. Thankfully, within mere minutes of a purchase that I'd abruptly changed my mind for another item I was able to do an exchange at the register without waiting on another line. Note: This store #8785 actually lies in Rego Park, Queens NOT Glendale and is accessible via Q11 Bus. It's extremely hard to get in contact with customer service, because the website won't allow you to reach anyone about this so sadly I have to give a poor public review. I went into the location at 9030 Metropolitan Ave, Queens, NY 11374 at 12:15pm and I was looking to get a can of spray paint. I called using the buzzer to get my paint. The gentleman who eventually came over was a bit difficult for me to even see in the slightly full case of spray paints. Which he would not open until I told him three times to open it. After finally getting the paint he brought it up to the counter. I went to look at the acrylic paint and once again the paints are nearly empty, which have been this way for over a month. So Instead of buying more items. I went to buy the spray paint. Then I saw a line of over 17 people waiting and one cashier. No manager in sight and the same associate who sort of helped me ignoring the fact that there was a line that was extremely long. He just walked away. It was made clear that Michaels did not want my business. I am starting to wonder if that location wants to stay in business. Not having any sort of craft supplies in stock is problematic for me to continue doing business with this location as well as poor customer service engagement. read more

My 89 yr old mother got stuck in the elevator at the Michaels on Metropolitan Ave on Friday afternoon . When she got out the on duty manager made sure that she was ok and provided a place to sit and water. He also rode down with her when we had finished shopping as she was uneasy going alone . (I am claustrophobic, and that day's incident really convinced me that I did not want to be in that elevator lol.) the store is nice, but I'm impressed me most was the personal care we received that day. read more

Whether you have an arts and crafts addiction or just working on a single project, this Michaels location is the most conveniently located and most stocked arts and crafts store in all of Queens. It's also the largest. You can find anything you need for any crafting project here. They also have a huge clearance section right as you enter the store where you can find a ton of cool and neat things for under $5. Otherwise the rest of the store is spacious and very nicely organized and labeled. My only drawback would be that this Michaels is located in a make shift "shopping center". Sharing the same parking lot is also Trader Joe's and Staples and within walking distance you can find Home Depot, Panda Expesss, Bob's Furniture, Wendy's and a few other places. Although convenient, the tiny parking lot cannot accommodate all of the vehicles and is a total nightmare. I do not recommend driving here. Take public transportation or Uber. Be sure to check the Michaels website for coupons before checking out. There is always some sort of discount coupon you can find :) read more

Michael's is my dream store. It has everything I ever wanted. I used to go to a huge one in Staten Island and it was my oasis. But this one... this one ruined Michael's for me. Even the one in UWS is a lot better! 1) They deliberately put "sale" signs on rows where SOME products aren't on sale. 2) Their signs are also very vague and don't really tell you what's actually on sale. 3) Then when you go to the register and you look at your receipt, and you ask the cashier if the things you got were on sale, she'll say yes. But tricky tricky tricky, not the things you THOUGHT were on sale! 4) No 40% off coupon from receipts?!?!?!? Get outta hea. 5) The staff walking around is not helpful either, and very rude (I smile all the time, there's no reason for you to be mean to me! *cries*) read more

Two major issues with this store: 1) When there is a sale, there isn't nearly enough help. There were 21 people on line and only 2 cashiers. They have 7 cashier positions. I guess their people need cross training, plenty of other employees in the store, pretty much doing nothing but bs'ing to each other. 2) The parking situation at this store is the worst I have ever seen, anywhere. Staples, Trader Joe and Michaels are the 3 major stores here, and they all share responsibility for this disaster. At the very least, they should be chipping in to have an attendant in the lot to direct traffic. Mostly, there is gridlock in the lot, where nobody moves for 5-10 minutes at a time. This review is basically based on the custom framing counter. The guy at the counter Teo(?), was really nice and not at all over bearing. We were framing our wedding picture and he offered his opinions, but let us look through all the samples and take our time to decide on what we wanted. There are ton of frame and matting options. All put together they really did a great job. We had purchased a large frame for another picture that we'd try to frame ourselves, but turns out the picture was too thick to fit in the frame. After returning the frame we went back to Teo and told him the problem, he said it could still work if we didn't want to spend the money to have it custom framed. Sure enough he worked some magic and put our picture in the frame (after going to the front to retrieve it from returns) with no problem. Plus your framing can be paid at the counter so you can avoid the front of the store crowds. The store itself is quite nice, but there always tends to be a line, sometimes halfway through the store, it's crazy. If they can fix that it would be much better. So keep it in mind for your framing needs, especially when you have a coupon because then it is very worth it! read more

I really wanted to give this place more than 3 stars especially since I've checked in here so many times. It's 10:28am on a Friday and 1 register is opened and the line has 13 people in front of me and 5 people behind me. I've been standing online for about 7 minutes and havent moved. There are workers here because I saw a couple when I was walking around. I have a love hate relationship with this place because it's the closest Michael's to my house its large and usually has so many things in stock. Finally Manager (Paula) appears without apologizing or making any positive comment to the clients and with a very bad demeanor, when we asked her name she was furious and said she couldn't say it.....!!! It's okay. Good in a pinch when you don't feel like traveling to Manhattan for basic art supplies. Do keep in mind that if you're looking for specific items, like white artist tape, don't bother coming here. If you're more into crafting though, then this place will do. A.C. Moore has more of a selection of paints, but they're more expensive. Michael's wins due to price. If you sign up for the Michael's email list, they'll send you coupons which you can use for the store. The percentage ranges from 25 to 40% off. Sometimes you can get framing done with the coupons from 50 to 60% off. Speaking of the framing department, they're good with customer service. Outside of the framing department, not as professional. Some cashiers are pretty cool, while others have no clue what item asking about. What you would expect from a chain store. This location has everything you're looking for that you'd expect from Michael's. My first time coming here was during the winter holiday season and it was madness. The aisles had things strewn on the floor, ribbons were a mess and disorganized, glitter all over, and just a ton of empty shelves. Staff was hard to find, but walked me around to help find something when I finally found them. The majority of the staff was at the registers to ease the long lines but I don't have any real complaints. While at checkout I passed by the non-holiday aisles and they seemed to be in better shape. Having had such speedy success, I wandered over to the nice selection of picture frames. The michaels of queens is located in a bit hard to get spot, but in the middle of a bunch of other popular chains like trader joe's, making it a good trip if you have a couple errands to run that day. It's a very large location with endless amounts of holiday gear when it's the season, but tends to lack certain organization to make finding the little things you need easier. Items are pretty pricey, if you compare what you can get them for on amazon, but are fair. The biggest complaint i have about this location is the immense line that forms during peak times, and the unavailability of the staff. they are sparse an usually too busy to ask of anything, but know the store well. read more

I have visited quite often since it first opened, and my girlfriend always does arts and crafts, so I've found myself here much more since we moved nearby. One thing about this location is that the line at the cash register is always long. They changed their checkout pattern, and I think it is better, although it still takes a while. It only really moves if there are at least 3-4 cashiers. Also, the parking lot is terrible. I never park here, I always find a reason to go into Home Depot or Bob's Furniture so I could use their lot. They share the lot with Trader Joe's and Staples, and it is never a good idea to park in their lot. I like Michael's in general, because they often have coupons for their members. My go-to Michaels in the area however I must say the parking lot is an absolute nightmare. There's a Trader Joe's located on the ground level so the volume of traffic is extremely high, every day of the week, every hour of the day. The bins located in the front of the store are a must! There's always something between $1-$5 there. This is my go to store for all crafting needs. There's a large selection of paper, stationary, flowers and frames. There's also a jewelry section and cake decorating classes are done here also! I've taken a beginner class here-- very low cost and well organized. The lines are usually long but they do go by very fast. Here's a tip: Instead of entering the parking lot on Metropolitan Ave, try to enter from the back where Dick's supporting goods is. Took a few minutes to find the entrance to this Michael's. It is right between Staples and Trader Joe's. It is on the 2nd floor of the building. There are stairs, an escalator, and an elevator to get up there. About halfway up the escalator, prepare to be caught in an unrelenting waft of cinnamon and pine, as they have lots of those scented broom-looking things by the entrance. As the escalator reached the top I wiped my eyes to alleviate the burning sensation and ventured into the store. The store seemed well-organized and well stocked. There were lots of employees around to help you with any questions or needs. With little effort, thanks to the excellent signage around the store, I was able to locate what I had gone there for. There was practically no line, so checkout was a breeze. The only thing that put me off is that they had an assortment of Star Wars themed chest-like boxes ranging in price from $14 up to $25 which I had just seen at National Wholesale Liquidators just minutes before for $6 to $12 for the exact same items. So they were grossly overpriced here. Other than that, it was a decent shopping experience. read more

I stopped searching...I will just order it online. I had to purchase a few other items and waited in a 35 person line with 2 cashiers. I'm not kidding - the line was to the middle of the store. If a company is going to jack their prices so high that they need to have a "sale" every damn day, make sure you have enough staff to take care of customers in a reasonable matter. Their floral section and seasonal lines are always 50% off because nobody will buy the junk with the astronomical price tags they put on this shit. It's ridiculous. Yup, problem here is clearly customer service. Whenever I come here, the items I'm looking for are mostly in stock. I like the mark down items and find all sorts of pretty decent sales too. Basic courtesy seems to be lacking with a few employees in this store. Asking for help or assistance in unlocking an item from a gated shelf seems to be an inconvenience. I've encountered several checkout clerks that do not greet you and don't say "thank you" at the end of check out transactions. A receipt and change is shoved into your hand and then he/she yells "Next!!!". Do I sound like I'm making a big deal out of nothing? Maybe. But these are the small things that make customers feel welcomed and make people want to return to your store. If you work at this store in any capacity and you happen to be standing by the entrance, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to greet your customers as they enter. Shopping here is like shopping at the DMV; you'd better not make plans for after your visit because it will take F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to find someone to help; if the moon and all the planets in the solar system align and a baboon is born with a purple ass during the full moon, that person will know something about whatever it is you're looking for. I'm not a needy or demanding customer at all. I don't want you hovering over me or kissing my ass. I just want you to know what you're talking about and to at least act like you care about helping me find what I need. Each time I've visited this location, there's never anyone around and the store is incredibly messy. Tonight, I found a few things I wanted (after searching endlessly for them) but took one look at the looooong line and two cashiers, and walked out. I went to @Michaelstores today and the cashier did not ask me if I was a rewards member. I then asked the cashier did they have any discounts today because I was a rewards member. His reply was no, I pulled out my phone pulled up Michael's and there was a 40% discount for reward members! He then did something with the register and told me that the discount wouldn't take because he had already entered my credit card number even though he had not charged me. He did not even try to void out my two little items and re-ring it so that I would get my 40% off. And when I brought that up he said next customer. The employees in this store are completely apathetic. I don't know what to say, other than that the store is generally well kept and there is no excuse for such lack of interest in doing one's job. It's like someone spent a hell of a lot of time and money building a store and then turned it over to some Jr. high-school students who'd rather be anywhere else, but working there.
