My go to place for anything Arts & Crafts related. The store is well stocked and clean. Michaels stores tend to have a feeling of over crowdedness due to all the many selections. One could get overwhelmed and a bit lost unless you have been here numerous times. I have been many times and I still dont know where anything really is. Service is somewhat scarce so you have to really look around for someone if you need help. Cashiers are pretty nice and lines dont get too long. 1. I don't care for this new location. The old one was brighter and felt more like a craft store. This one is like a confusing warehouse - lacking light and has a cold vibe. 2. They keep advertising 'free pick-up at store', but yet EVERY item I ever wanted online shows 'inventory information not available' at this location, so I try to call and check if inventory is available and get put on hold for 15 minutes, and that is after giving them a SKU #. They can't check by SKU# and have to actually hunt through the store like the customers. I appreciate their honesty and willingness to help me look. BUT there is a SERIOUS problem with the store INVENTORY if even the employees can't confirm whether they have a specific SKU or not. And if it takes them more than 15 minutes to find something, how long will it take a customer who is not as familiar with the layout??? read more

The new Michael's location is layed out very much like the Fremont Hub location, spacious and stocked well! The customer service is on point, and the selection they have is hands down. I love how everything has it's place - so easy to find everything because each aisle is categorized and in LARGE FONT so those who can't see too well, you won't miss what you're looking for. Also, this new Michael's is conveniently located right next door to Petsmart, so if you need to pick up anything at either store - they're right next door, SO convenient! Love it!!!!!! read more

My boyfriend and I came to this location one evening for some supplies for personal art projects. I walked in went my way and he went his. Found What I was looking for right away. Since there was a good selection of the item i needed, which was a case to carry my loose swarovski crystal beads, it took me a while to decide. I finally made my choice and my boyfriend also found his item. When we got to the register an elderly women helped us. She asked if we had out 40% off coupon. I told her I forgot they offered the coupon. She offered to give the discount if she could find and extra coupon. She was able to give us the discount. On our way our my boyfriend saw a toy at the register he thought he wanted to buy. It was like a robot bug that runs across the floor at a fast speed, great for pets. I don't come here that often except when it's a specific need. My usual need is weird sized frames and last night I had to find SIX odd sized frames and get custom matting. While it cost a little, the service was excellent. I got all six frames matted while I waited. They always have courteous staff who are pretty knowledgeable about their inventory and services. This new location seems a tad smaller to me, but the layout and way they organized it all makes it feel less cramped. There's also now an actual queue area for people waiting to check out! My favorite is that they have a designated area in the front for whatever holiday/event they are focused on. Only thing that was funky was the WiFi lol. I had a Michaels coupon and a JoAnn's coupon one was 50% one was 40% and they only would take one coupon and said it's the policy of all Michaels. This is my favorite Michael's that I come to for all my craft stuff. This Michaels is pretty clean compared to some of the other ones I've been to. There is always a lot of parking and the store is never to crowded. I can spend a lot of time in this store just looking at stuff, going up and down to Isles looking at everything and how to use stuff. One thing I learned long ago hobbies are expensive in the long run cause you always need something else more cooler for whatever projects you're doing. read more

Have you ever bought some badass prints online and knew they would look even more badass framed and matted? Did you happen to think that it would be fairly easy to cut matting and put those bad boys together yourself with the aid of youtube videos teaching you along the way? I DID! I was wrong. I purchased frames and matting online then went to my neighborhood Michael's to purchase the mat-cutting supplies, went home, realized I bit off more than I could chew, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more, then went back to America's favorite Arts & Crafts store to get an estimate on the job I couldn't finish. I wasn't given a price, I was given one name- Ray. Ray is a little "ray" of sunshine. Ray took the nine prints along with the frames and matting I had purchased online and gave me only one requirement prior to accepting the task at hand, that I: "give [Ray] free reign." After viewing his portfolio, the decision was clear: I MUST GIVE RAY FREE REIGN. So glad I did!!! Ray swapped out my boring white matting and used vibrantly colored matting while accenting each print with unique hand-cuts and personal touches. Ray and his awesome team of masters of the framing arts can take on any job, I'm sure of it! I know you might not be sure of it so I am uploading a photo for those of you who may be naysayers. I never would have thought of MICHAEL'S as a framing destination for fine art--but a friend highly recommended this location (near Walmart, in Milpitas), due to the framing skills of department head, MARILYN. So far, I have taken three works of art to Marilyn (for framing), and she has shown an outstanding level of craftsmanship with each piece. What makes her level of customer service really stand out though, is her ability to truly listen to the customer--and to create a finished product that turns out exactly as the customer imagined. New-to-the-art-world customers might find Michael's custom framing pricing to be a little pricey: but for the quality that Marilyn delivers, you won't find a better value. Comparable quality custom framing done in, for example, San Francisco, would cost about three to FOUR times more.. As for the store itself: During the holidays, I found it to be a bit unkempt and in need of a straightening. But most recently, in mid-January, everything looked all cleaned-up and well-merchandised. The cashiers up front are friendly--but I haven't yet noticed anyone working/helping customers on the salesfloor. One suggestion I would make to the store manager is to CARRY FRAMED ART. Many artists and lovers-of-art shop at Michael's--so why not have a selection of art on-hand to sell us? read more

I have been to this Michaels multiple times. I am not sure if it is because its in Milipitas or near tech area, they still have christmas clearance items. Still impressed. I was able to get 3 rolls of red ribbon for valentines day for .50 a roll. I love going to this Michaels, always clean and organized bigger than the one in Sunnyvale and Cupertino. But the only catch to coming here is the "funky smell" in the air outside. My husband DREADS my trips to Michaels. 'I swear, I'll just be a minute' or 'Oh I just need one thing...' can turn into hours of shopping for me. Everytime I'm here I consider taking up some sort of new craft. Luckily most of the time I stick with my usual tried and true, but one day I will do decorative candle making, or stuffing baskets with fake plastic plants. Anyways, this locations has a pretty good selection, especially for my scrapbooking, basic crafting needs. I've used their custom framing section too (only with the 50% off mailer coupons of course!) and have found them to be a good deal overall. The staff is ok - they always seem to be too short people to help or ring, but they're usually friendly and can at least point you in the direction of the aisle you need. Recently had a birthday party here for my now 9 year old daughter. I knew it would be cool but it went way beyond cool. The kids had a great time. Never has a group of 4 to 9 year olds been so well behaved and engaged. Kim is a champion leading the kids through the art project. She's meant to work with kids. They respond so great with her. In a city obsessed with tech it's important to have those like Kim to inspire children and creativity. Also I don't want to forget Sree, who btw is an awesome artist! My wife and I stumbled getting this arranged because it was our first time and my daughter changed her mind on which project to do. Sree was patient and helpful. Kim and Sree are lightning in a bottle. I hope Michael's recognizes them and that they are both there for my other daughter's birthday! :) read more

I used to come here almost on a weekly basis because of all their great sales. What I love mostly about Michaels in general is that they started creating their own line of yarn called Loops & Threads...at first I thought it was pretty ghetto....but I've grown to love it. It's a great cheap alternative for many projects. Quality yarn is good for special projects, for the quick projects for whatever the case may be...Loops & Treads are great for me. I also just love their sale on Lion Brand yarn, especially any of the Vanna Yarn...yumm! Folks hate this place, it doesn't matter to me...hate all you want...more for me! At times I hate it when they have a huge sale and they don't have enough of one type of yarn that I always happen to be looking for. But aside from that...I'm just glad that I have a Michael's close to home. I also love the staff here, the more memorable ones happen to be Filipino...it might be because I'm Filipino too or I'm hoping other customers have found them to be as helpful and friendly. read more

In general, I like Michaels. It's a good place to get frames and arts and crafts supplies. But like any big chain of things, there are some little things that make specific ones better than others. This Michaels is a little smaller than other ones I'm used to, but they have all the standards. But the one thing that makes this specific Michaels below average is the knowledge of the people who work there. I was here to get beads in oder to make jewelry. There was a warning sign on top of the shelf saying that this specific product was known to cause birth defects and cancer. Of course, I didn't want to make cancer causing jewelry and so I called a staffer over to ask her what the warning sign was about. She had no idea and said that that sign had been there for 5 years, the entire time she had worked there. "It's nothing" she said, "people buy those all the time. I'm sure the only dangerous thing about them is small children swallowing them." I went home, looked it up, found out that the warning label was for lead. A staffer who had worked there for 5 years didn't know about a lead warning. read more

The only person that I was able to ask questions to was the cashier, and she wasn't very pleasant. She looked pissed off that the line was too long. I know now not to expect service from this place. I love Michael's. I could probably spend an entire here picking up things I'll say I'll make but ultimately ends up in the back of my closet somewhere and then I forget and go buy it again.... But this one stinks. Horrible Service. Wanted to buy some supplies for an upcoming wedding and went online to see if they had any coupons available. Lucky for me, they did. it was one of those back-to-school scratch off cards and the first two that you matched, you get that discount. I scratched off the 30% and was delighted! Off i went picking out the same supplies I probably have somewhere but too lazy to look for. took all my goodies to the front lanes and showed the cashier my phone of the code. she said that she will not honor it because she's never seen it. uh. just because you've never seen it does not make it not real. she called the manager over and the manager accused us of faking the scratch card and that we are liars. so i showed her how i got to that site, by going to michales.com, and clicking on the "text us this number and we'll send you a scratch card blahblahblah." she then grabbed the phone (MY PHONE) out of my hand and said "no, that's not how you do it. you have to type michael's in the search bar for the correct site." but even then, the same thing showed up. she said she still won't honor the coupon. i tried reasoning with her but when that failed, i called corporate to see why my coupon won't be honored. the gentleman on the phone was very helpful and did say, that it is a legit promotion/coupon and should be honored. when the manager still refused, corporate called the store and gotten in straightened out. she came back to us all pissed off and told the cashier, "just do it. and you have to do it one by one" with the emphasis on "one by one," while rolling her eyes. this is when i lost it. but then my cousin, replied with the same tone, "yes, and we will wait as you do it one by one." and i couldn't help but smile inside. in the end, we saved about $25-$30 and while it isn't a HUGE chunk of money, it's still a decent amount. and i wasn't arguing for that reason but it's the principles of things! i guess my main gripe is that, if a coupon is posted on your website and for some reason, your system isn't reading the barcode, not my fault. and don't ever call your customer liars. -100000 stars for this stores manager. read more

I bought 2 load of full shopping cart, and put it in the middle of the store because they are really heavy. Within 5 minutes, I am back, the shopping cart is gone. I asked one of the associates, and she said because the shopping cart is not with me, they assumed I have abandoned it. The associates is very rude, basically taking the contents of the other shopping cart and shove it aside, Come on, Lady, Do you think I am some kind of stupid customer that dont understand english? I'm guessing cause the freeway is over yonder, and everyone can see it, so they're thinking "oh crap, I need art supplies and they've got all these other places I can go!". Haha, I loved Jenn T.'s review for Michaels. This place really is like a playland for girls who were/are into crafts. I remember being younger and coming in here and looking at all the pretty stuff and wishing I was artistic and crafty. But no, I was always the girl that messed up all my crafts. I came here yesterday to pick up some Inkjet Printer Iron-On Transfers because I wanted to make a shirt for an event. (And like I mentioned previously, I screw up my craft projects.. This one I did screw up... I wanted to put a bright pink heart onto a spaghetti strap shirt. My design and everything was cute, but I didn't cut the heart shape out and now I have this 11x8 size white rectangle on my shirt. but whatever) This particular location IS well stocked and neat, but the service is slow.. and everyone who works here seems to hate their job. But bottom line, if you wanna get some crafty items, I would recommend to check out Walmart/Target if they have what you need.. If I could do negative numbers, I would. On Saturday I spent 5 1/2 hours ordering 20 custom frames - many of them were exactly alike! The store had a kid's event, a one day promotions & sales going on and only about 4-6 people (visible) in the entire store! The Framing Department was one of the sales & one day promotions, yet there was only one person working. In addition, the only people who seemed trained in entering orders with that sale was the framing manager - and he was not working that day!!! Over the past 6 years, I have spent thousands of dollars on custom framing at Michaels. The work was always exceptional, the employees knowledgeable and dependable. However, since Michael's closed their Aaron Brothers locations and have now absorbed that business into Michael's store......disaster! Employees are not trained, there is not enough coverage in the store and the selection of framing choices has been greatly reduced, and many of the selections they display - are out of stock or discontinued! There seems to be NO communication at the store. I went in the store on Thursday (trip #1) to inquire about the new Aaron Brothers pricing compared to Michael's. One of the new framers (previously an Aaron Brothers employee) told me he would be working Friday 9:30 - 5:30. I went back to the store on Friday (trip #2) and was told he wouldn't be in until 5:30, but he would be in on Saturday @ 9:00. I went back in on Saturday (trip#3) and began working with him. I had some photographs to have custom framed as well, so I had all my digital phots on a flash drive. Michael's computers do not have USB ports!!! So, I had to go home and get my computer and bring it back to the store (trip #4) to complete my ordering. When I returned, it was understood that I would now work with someone else, because the first framer was not trained on entering orders into Michael's computer program and his shift was over. Framer #2 ordered the art framing, but when it came to entering the photography framing, she had not been trained on how to order items with the one-day sale. The store manager also did not know how to enter the orders. Of course, the framing manager was not working, so she sent him several messages for instruction. After several attempts, we agreed that she would enter what she could, charge me for the total of all my orders, and the framing manager would complete entering the orders into the computer the next day after 11:00 (Sunday) when he was working, and he would call me to let me know everything was ok. It is now Monday @ noon, and no one has called. I called the store and the framing manager does not work until 1:00. My biggest concern is that when (if ever) this order is completed, I will have to spend another 4 trips and countless hours to get it corrected - because my confidence in Michaels just isn't there. This is a complete turn around from the Michael's with whom I used to deal. They moved into this big beautiful store, most of the employees seem to be new, there are not enough of them, and they aren't trained! In no way does this reflect on the employees of the framing department. They are all talented, patient and seemingly frustrated. There simply aren't enough of them and the haven't been trained! Management has really failed in scheduling, training, and inventory selections. read more

Overall a great place when you're feeling a crafty or artsy. I have to admit though the stock at this store is disappointing (especially it comes to items that are on sale). I came here on a Sunday morning (and mind you Sunday is when the sales are new, so one would think that they would have plenty in stock). The coupon I had was for artist supplies (charcoal, artist pens, paint, etc.). To my surprise, it seemed as if the whole artists section was ransacked, robbed, everything gone. Makes me wonder if they even re-stock on Saturday night. Bad for profit-making, bad for the bargain hunter. Mixed bag for me--I like what they sell--if only they had stock of what I wanted. read more

In general, I like Michaels craft stores, but this particular store is very unorganized and unfriendly. The 3 following visits have pushed me to give this rating: 1. An item I found on sale rung up full price when I checked out. After some investigation they realized that the sale for this item was from the previous week and they had forgotten to remove the sign. Even though it was the store's mistake, they did not honor the discount. 2. I tried to use one of the 40% off coupons that they frequently have in the weekly ad. I am fully aware that the coupon is applicable only to full price items. So I was very surprised when the cashier told me the coupon did not work on a full price item I wanted to buy. After asking the manager about it, she told me that they had already begun taking down signs for the current week and putting up new signs for the following week. The item was on sale this week but the sign had already been removed since the item was not on sale the following week. She gave me the sale price, which was not as good of a deal as the full price+coupon deal. 3. The item I chose rung up full price even though I found it in a 50% off section. Rather than check it herself, or have another employee check, the cashier asked me to go to that aisle and take a picture. She looked at the picture and asked another cashier why the item was not ringing up on sale when there were signs up and down the aisle showing 50% off. The other cashier pointed out that the sale was only applicable to one item sold in that area and that the other signs should be taken down. Even though it was the store's mistake, they did not honor the discounted. I understand that signing mistakes happen, but I feel like the store should honor the signs that they incorrectly put up/take down. read more

My first time at this Milpitas location for Michaels and my 9 year-old daughters first time into this chain store ever. What a sweet experience! Not to say much about the wide array of options, the beautiful quality products and spacious, well kept store..but this review is especially for the girl at the checkout counter, Tuliana ( if I recall the name right) :) She not only greeted us with such warmth and smile, but voluntarily proceeded to help us get store discounts from online coupons. She had a charming spirit and energy that really made my day! My daughter announced the store to be her most favorite ever, especially for customer service. More power to you Tuliana! I've actually been in this store many times over the year, though my review is based on when my fiancé and I came in here on Monday. We came to get myself a latch-hook mat; there were very few on the shelf, which means either they sold a bunch of them or they were not keeping up with stocking the shelves. Anyhow, after perusing around a little and feeling my inner crafter come out, we went to the register for an underwhelming checkout. The cashier offered no greeting or how are you; in the first few seconds as I was putting my latch-hook mat down on the counter, she said nothing and was looking at her manicured nails in a disinterested manner. I'm giving this rating 3 stars because the product selection is decent, and the cashier did actually take 40% off my purchase, plus give me a 50% off coupon and sign me up for weekly coupons sent to my email. Overall, the place is just decent, average. I'll still come here in the future because it's the closest craft store to my house. read more

This Michael is very close to where I live which is the reason why I visit. Even though it's close by I am very hesitant to take a trip to their store because I never seem to find an employee to help when I have questions. I used to grab the items and stand in line just to ask my questions. Other times they did not know the store policies and wouldn't try to find out the answer for me. I would only visit if I really needed something. Today they had a 50% coupon which is the reason why I made a trip to their store. I was very pleased with my visit today. Items seem to be in the right spots and did not have question about the prices. If I did there is machines where you can check the price. When I was looking around two employees asked me if I needed help. When I did ask questions they tried to answer as best they could but where happy to find the answer for me. I did ended up using the coupon and found great sales on items that were on my wishlist. I am willing to give this store a second chance now that I know there is more employees to help me. read more

They have a good variety of nifty art supplies, pens, individual prismacolor markers (sometimes), papers, frames, scrapbooking things, cri-cut, invitation items, card stock, home decor, and lots more. This is usually my go to place when I want a variety of papers, such as watercolor, bristol, or just a plain sketchbook. Best part of it is, I usually get a 40% off any regular price item in the mail and it comes in handy! Plus you get one each time you purchase something.
