Sweet, creamy lemon ice cream with a ribbon of crunchy lemon cookie...refreshingly lemony! There are other flavors but this is our second visit in about 30 days...and Lemon Chillo was the selection both visits. Clean shop with a group of friendly young ladies holding down the store. An old fashioned ice cream shoppe. I like the atmosphere inside and out. Feels like you're in the 70s or 80s. I seen them bringing people these certain type of ice cream desserts and I asked what they were and she said it's a bubble. I got one of those (large size and it's fit for a grown man) they have jumbo but that is definitely something you share. I was visiting from out of town and was taken here as a surprise and oh man. What an amazing experience! This place is old school diner-like. Makes you think of older times and honestly makes you really crave ice cream. When we got there I was told I have to get the Bubble. It's ice cream, chocolate sauce, marshmallow, and roasted peanuts. Guys. GUYS. Game changer. Literally a 12/10. The marshmallow and the peanuts are the real stars here. You know the best part of a Reese's? That bite you get in the middle of just pure peanut butter bliss? That's this. The ice cream and chocolate are the perfect palette helpers here but man that peanut butter marshmallow combo is where it's at! Loved it so much spoke about it for a year and made it a "we need to go there again" on my list of things to do in Ohio. Both times I've been here the staff has been absolutely lovely. Absolutely disappointing. We were one of the first people in the store and we were one of the last ones to get service. One girl with two braids in a blue shirt kept looking my family up and down. Clearly people from out of town are not welcome. One of my family members went to the restroom and saw half frozen hot dogs that looked like they were sitting out for hours. They also had workers cutting bananas on the freezer and it seemed pretty dirty. They also weren't wearing gloves when cutting bananas. So many things seemed wrong there. I heard rumors about this place for years. "You have to go there and have a bubble," they'd decree. What the hell is a bubble? It turns out that it is an ice cream concoction for the ages. Now let's be clear...this place has all the hallmarks of a small town lunch counter. Stools along a high-topped counter with lots of woodwork, stand mixers, hand-pump dispensers for things like hot fudge, etc. George Bailey may have cooked up his schemes to get out of Bedford Falls here. But this place has so much more. Fresh roasted peanuts. Fresh ground peanuts for the ice creams. Locally made sodas from Gem Bottling like Ski. And they have the vaunted "Jackson veal," though down the road it will be called Wellston veal. Candies and t-shirts are in here for us touristy types. In any event, the bubble: an ice cream delight served up in a sundae glass. You can get it to go, but don't, unless you have one at the counter and then have another in the car. The treat is made with some chocolate, some peanuts, some marshmallow cream, some ice cream, and a requirement that too much is served to fit into the glass. The long handled spoon will not stop you from making a mess. Eat well. Worth noting...pizza, hot dogs, and other sandwiches are available. Also worth noting, no matter what you do in Jackson, Ohio, you must go to this place so that it will be around for another century or so. So good. So very, very good. read more

A Jackson landmark. Very nostalgic the dining area has old high school yearbooks. As for the food The Bubble is a must. That is if the ice cream coolers did a better job. I hate reading whiny reviews that state service is "slow" then go on to say that TWO girls were waiting on about a dozen folks... perhaps we have not all been so lucky to experience working a busy short handed dinner rush?? Thats not "slow" service. Theres a line. Theres only so much a person (or 2) can do. No one states that their order was wrong or poorly prepared- so Id say they did a decent job! Ahem- anyhow. I have been married to Gregg for almost 25 years and he had not had a Michael's Bubble. In an effort to rectify this serious breach of home town visitor etiquette we stopped in the new location on Main Street. It 100% reminds me of the previous location right off route 35. When you walk in the old fashioned peanut roaster is in the window just like it always has been. There are displays of what used to be penny candy and old fashioned sundae glasses and one with ice cream of various delicious varieties. We ordered Bubbles and while we were waiting looked at the old news clippings and picture that were all about Jackson and the surrounding area. When our Bubbles arrived they were overflowing, gooey, peanut dusted wonders. A Bubble is a sundae with chocolate sauce at the bottom of the sundae dish, vanilla ice cream, and lots of marshmallow sauce, all dusted with ground freshly roasted Spanish peanuts. I can never decide it the marshmallow sauce; a delicious, sweet, sticky sauce that is an amazing consistency that just flows over the ice cream and makes the slow roasted peanut crumbs stick or the slow roasted Spanish peanuts that are fresh ground at the time you order that are my favorite part of the dish. A bubble is house made chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream, marshmallow cream, and house ground peanuts served picturesquely overflowing in a sundae dish. What really pushes bubbles to "out of this world" level is the nuts.. They are ground so finely it tastes like a peanut butter topping. It is truly phenomenal. Michael's bubbles are quite affordable at less than $3.50 for a regular. You can sub the ice cream and syrup flavors, but I am a fan of not changing a good thing. I remember going to the original location 30 years ago. Many of the employees at the new location weren't even born yet when I was going there.
