I'd been to the old location decades ago. Went this weekend for donuts and hot dog buns. Strange site, because of the streets, of course. Parking in back, big signs for that, and exit through the skinny alley. Inside it's a nice old brick building, but airy and bright. They have a few lunch items, and they do have hot dog buns on the day coneys are their special, but didn't have them on a Saturday. And by the time I got there most of the donuts were gone. Not a fan at all. First complaints are the stairs and 2 doors you need to open and close with your arms full of donuts. 2nd set of complaints are no fry cakes, Empty long John's, and no jelly filled donuts. Third set of complaints are that there just isn't enough cinnamon in the rolls so they are plain and just doughy. I don't even really consider these donuts they are just various sweet breads. Staff were friendly, place was clean, and the only things all 11 of us liked were the glazed cinnamon roll, the Bavarian cream donuts, and the blueberry donuts. We all cut up everything and the 11 of us didn't even like them enough to finish a dozen donuts. When the 11 of us got 24 donuts from crispy cream the other day they were all eaten in 10 minutes flat. read more

Ordered three BLT sandwiches, no bacon !! Only crumbs of bacon! Very little. Very disappointing, bread was hard , seems stale. Was out of little Debbie cupcakes , they never make enough!! I've been to this place twice this month and got let down twice. If you buy donuts I would check that they have the right count. Both times I've gone I've ordered a dozen and either got 10 or 11 donuts instead. Who likes paying for 12 donuts and getting 10 or 11? I also ordered a fritter and it was completely dry and I ended up throwing it away. I'm guessing it was made a day or two before. Several of my coworkers in Chillicothe have gone to this place for years and have recently said it's been going downhill. I really should have listened to them and not have given this place a second shot. Next time I'm going to Crispie Cream donuts on Bridge Street, since that's where everyone has been recommending me to go instead of this place. read more

Lord knows I have better things to do than complain about some bake goods. But after Amy (manager) hung up the phone on me. God knew I be here. Jokes aside. I heard about these awesome treats so I ordered via phone in a very unprofessional manner, no email or text message securing the purchase. Just crossing my fingers hoping I didn't blow $30. They sent items out sometime Friday and by Saturday they arrived! They literally "air sealed" the items then put those in a Kroger plastic bag and then box them up! Yes! This is how they send perishables in state! Nothing to preserve them, nothing to help them last one day! In transit. So I call thinking how there must of been a mistake because there was no packaging in my package. Just Bismarks in box! W/ a plastic bag. (This is where $20 for shipping goes) The staff is very polite but not Amy (manager) Very aggressive, non sympathetic and honestly rude! All this before hanging up on me, she calls me a freeloader after requesting a refund as the items that were sent (less 24 hours ago) are dry, smashed and completely inedible. Mediocre baked goods with personality to boot! After several "attempts" to enjoy this place I seemingly always leave with a literal and theoretical BAD taste in my mouth. The customer service is OFF ya'll, nothing like going somewhere in the midst of a pandemic to be treated like an inconvenience. 5 stars all the way! 33 cent cookies and donuts, clearly I am not in columbus anymore where I have paid over $1 for each! That noted I went crazy and bought everything in sight! Small pies for $1.70?!!! Blackberry please and it was good but probably the least exciting out of my box of fun. The cookies were so soft and fresh, they had great kinds like cherry raisin, and your usual, my favorite being the white chocolate madedemia, so soft and chewy and what I thought was interesting is that you taste a bit of salt in each dessert, just enough to keep you from getting too sick from all the sugar! My favorite and as the ower told me everyone elses as well are the small powdered bismarks, MAN were they to die for! Everything had a fried, fresh taste to it and the cream filling is excellent! Their cinnamon and pecans are also amazing, whatever you buy here you cannot go wrong, that is why they have been in business for over 90 years! read more

This place is pretty unassuming and if you're not looking for it you'll miss it. Keep an eye out for the blue and white signage. I only tried two of their old fashioned donuts...the raised knots and their long cake style. The knots were good but the long cakes style were killer...crispy on the corners and a sweet glaze that might make you cry it's so good. I've heard their frosted sugar cookies are out of this world too. FYI The counter girls were totally cute and very helpful and friendly. read more

I would love to give a NEGATIVE star!! This place is a joke along with its owner if the owner is truly the one answering on messenger. We were there today with my Son & DIL & a very small crowd for her baby "sprinkle". My son & DIL went there some time ago to place an order for today & to find out what was needed to have the gathering. A short haired blonde lady (that was working today) took their order of donuts & they mentioned the plan for today & said there would be approximately 15 or so people in attendance. The lady said that was no big deal & they left after placing their order...fast forward to today....WOW!!! They showed up, purchased their donuts for the gathering & sat down waiting for the party they had previously told the short blonde haired lady about in the days earlier when ordering the donuts. Customers NOT in our gathering & in our gathering came & went.....the SAME lady that knew about the gathering bad mouthed the young pregnant mother & Father to someone in our group (not knowing she was in our group ) as if she had NO CLUE of the gathering & apologized for her wait saying there is normally a $75 fee for this type of thing & that they had no clue we were showing up & that the people in the party are taking away from their business?!?! EXCUSE ME!!!! We GAVE them business....people still came & went during the SHORT hour we were there, people outside our party were able to sit & enjoy their food with no issues. Everyone there with the party purchased at least a drink OR more! My husband & myself ordered a $12 meal that was supposed to come with eggs (biscuits, gravy, eggs & cottage cheese) for them to get the meal to us & say "We are out of eggs is there anything else you would like" OBVIOUSLY ~ I didn't pay $12 for biscuits, gravy & Cottage cheese so I asked for more cottage cheese...not to mention they were out of Espresso as well (had nothing to do with our party no one had gotten espresso from my knowledge & if so it would have been 2 or so people) ~ had I known the way these people had treated my son & DIL I wouldn't have spent a PENNY there & NEVER will I again. My husband nicely sent a PM to the owner letting them know what transpired & that he didn't want to do a review necessarily, but let them know what happened to get a rude message back saying they HAD NO CLUE the party was showing up or they would have had more employees working I HIGHLY doubt that because they WERE notified & asked when the donuts were ordered in advance. It was just a COP OUT. My pregnant DIL was so kind as to 1/2 way open her gifts & keep the wrapping paper on the gifts because the trash can was overfilling (NOT from our party BTW) but she was trying to be kind & not have more trash for them so the wrapping paper from the gifts went home with them. My MIL said the Bizmarks weren't good ~ I didn't try them, but my husband loved the biscuits & gravy....I have no clue what the eggs taste like since they let us PAY for the meal & didn't even have the eggs....I was excited to go back because of the setting (it's like an old mill & decorated really neat) plenty of seating, we took up some obviously, but there were LOTS of other seats available. What happened today was COMPLETELY uncalled for & as far as the owners reply to my husband that was ridiculous as well. I am NOT one to make negative reviews,(actually this is my 1st) but I will NOT tolerate someone being rude to my family (son & DIL) therefore this place will NEVER get a PENNY from me again!!! I also plan to post this on my personal page so that everyone can see how this place is ran ~ You do NOT mess with my family when we did NOTHING wrong!!! Here is my reasoning behind my 5 Star Review which I dont give unless the service is above and beyond . Until last month I had not been there since it was the Origional New System Bakery , Since I came in last month ive been coming in a few times a week now In the evenings when I get off work. My main reason for coming in has been the fact of who is working out front . The lady Beverly has been so kind and very knowlegable of every single thing about there answering questions about the products and even the history of the building which is cool. The repore has gotten where we can joke and she pretty much knows what I want . But every time ive been in there she has been super kind and made it to where it makes me wanna come back and tell friends about this place a true Gem Never greated with anything less than a smile and asking how my day has been before even trying to make a sale, and when customers are jerks and dusche canoes she has been seen being nice and polite and still being kind more than I could ever be. Ppl like her are gems and what keeps ppl coming back to support local business when it can be cheaper to go elseware. As long as there are people like Beverly and I think Sara I'll keep coming in 2 or 3 times a week. Because I can get used being treated with this caring kindness and made to laugh and forget about the things I deal with daily. Its truly people like her as kind and funny as she is that makes ppl like me feel like we matter and have a little faith in humanity. Value people like Beverly because they are priceless and the backbone of businesses. Love this place so much, great food, great atmosphere, great people...or maybe not. I have been going to this bakery for years and love the food and that I can support a small business without breaking the bank. When I shop I always try to be kind to the staff and if they are short with me then I tell myself, they must be having a hard day. I debated on whether I was going to write this review or not because I hate having to write a negative review. I know there are people out there though that look for reviews such as this though in order to avoid a bad encounter. There is a woman that works at the counter at this bakery.Don't know her name, I think the other workers call her Beck, she has short hair and, not to sound rude, but she is a bigger girl. The last few times I've been there she is rude and treats customers as an afterthought, as though you're an inconvenience. My grandmother went in there, I believe it was Friday afternoon, and she said this same woman made her visit very hard and talked down to her. My grandma said this ruined her whole day. This cannot be allowed to keep going on. I hope this woman gets some help with whatever is happening to make her so unpleasant but her attitude is making me and my grandmother not want to come back and I'm sure we aren't the only ones. read more

I've been eating Bismarks for probably 60 years now and there is NOwhere you can find one to compare to those from New System. I used to stop in for 2 bismarks on the way home from school (.05 each back then) practically every afternoon. Live in Cinciinnati area now and when I visit Chillicothe I have to take at least 4 dozen back. You can't get bismarks anywhere else that I know of. If you can they won't be as good. Cream sticks and 'tips' are a close second. read more

Best bakery in town! Love anything I have bought there. Have been house-bound for several years and reallllly miss going there! I am so sorry for all the crazy things that are happening to them. I truly hope they open real soon. I try to get my birthday cake each year from them. I order it and have friend pick it up for me. Love their chocolate/white cake with the chocolate/white icing. I grew up in Chillicothe so i know this place well they have the best of everything I live in Columbus now but when ever I go to visit old friends or family I always stop in and bring home enough to last me a few days. also the cakes are en expensive and better then the cake shops that charge 85.00 for a cake I would give this place a 10 but this sight don't go that high read more

Ive been in some old school bakeries before . and being well traveled they are the best. New system made my wedding cake sheet and everybody went coo coo for it. But when talking New system I have two words for you Bismarks and chocolate covered bismarks. I have a friend who travels with his job and tries to sample donnuts where ever he ends up.
