I recently saw a post on Ohio Trips' Facebook page about a charming little bakery tucked away in southern Ohio called Four Mile Bakery. As a former chef and someone who creates food videos for my YouTube channel, I'm always searching for hidden diners, cafés, and bakeries that deserve more attention. Supporting local Ohio businesses is something I'm passionate about, so I made the drive to Jackson to see what all the buzz was about. The bakery sits along a quiet country road across from a picturesque farm with goats, horses, and cows, making the drive there part of the experience. When I walked inside, I discovered it's much more than a bakery--it's also a country general store stocked with homemade jams, jellies, sauces, and other locally made goodies. But let's be honest... the real reason for my visit was the doughnuts. Instead of the typical display case, Four Mile Bakery has a doughnut buffet where you put on plastic gloves and pick out your own favorites. It's a fun concept that lets you really take your time looking over all the incredible options. While I was filming, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Shawn. He couldn't have been more welcoming. He shared the story of the bakery, how many of their recipes were developed, and the passion that goes into what they make every day. Then came the highlight of my visit--their signature Wagon Wheel doughnut. This giant glazed doughnut is unlike any I've ever had. Most oversized doughnuts tend to be heavy, bread-like, and dense. Not this one. Somehow they've mastered the art of making it unbelievably light and airy with an almost cotton-candy-like texture. It practically melts in your mouth. It's one of the best doughnuts I've ever eaten. They also offer an impressive variety of doughnuts with all kinds of toppings and flavors, so there's something for everyone. Although they serve lunch items as well, I didn't have enough time to try them on this visit. We picked up several doughnuts along with a few items from the general store, thanked Shawn for his hospitality, and headed home. Four Mile Bakery is exactly the kind of hidden gem I love discovering. Great people, incredible homemade doughnuts, and a beautiful country setting make it well worth the drive. If you're anywhere near Jackson--or even if you're not--make the trip. The Wagon Wheel alone is worth it. P.S. This store/bakery is awesome. What an adorable place. You can grab so many things including lunch and some of the freshest baked donuts I have ever tasted. The owner was so friendly and told us about his business and history. The donuts are absolutely huge. I also bought some sauces and jams that look great. There is a cute a candle shop next them that a local lady runs. She makes her own candles and wax melts. She was just the cutest, sweetest lady and so very friendly. Way to high price for a working person to buy a donut from then , when they first started out, you could get a dozen donuts for like 12 bucks but now I think it's like 38 or $40 to get a dozen. It's just unreal can't afford it. Maybe they rot. read more

Amish country charm. Store opens only from Thursday - Saturday at 7am - 2pm. If you find yourself in this area, Jackson Ohio, this is a wonderful (a must) stop for breakfast and/or lunch and snacks. They also carry a variety of canned goods like chow chow and green tomato relish, & jams. Their made from scratch baked goods (donuts) are very popular. And their coffee is delicious too. Today I wanted to go on adventure today, but Tony wanted to sleep. I called Kayla Beth Fields to see if her & Deacon could join me. So, I didn't tell them where we were going, only it's in Ohio!!! We headed off in my car, telling Deacon it was a electronics free day...enjoy the beautiful scenery!! We arrived at the bakery and he didn't know where we were. Outside as we were walking onto the lovely covered porch he said, " Maw Maw I smell Donuts"..I just laughed!! He had no idea that these Wagon Wheel Beauties were biggers than his head!!! We went into the store entering the Candy Maze as he called it. I have to remember to bring my cooler next time for Amish Cheese & Butter!!! I bought Kayla a Glazed Wagon Wheel, Tony a Apple Cinnamon Bear Claw, Joshua a Chocolate Frosted Peanut Butter Cream Filled, Noel a Lemon Glazed Filled and a Deacon Chocolate with Sprinkles Covered Wagon Wheel...and some donut holes to share!! Plus he got some candy! Total was $21.60 We sat down to eat our sugary treats! They were delicious and I took Tony's, Noel's & Joshua's back to Ripley to them later in the day!!! Small, out of the way spot. Nothing like it around. I was hoping for an Amish bakery. The ladies behind the counter appeared to be Amish, possibly. But the little girl on the front of their advertising is not, lol. The staff was very friendly; we didn't end up making a purchase-they are bit pricey. There are two donut places in Jackson- this one and the one downtown. They're both FANTASTIC. The good news is that you don't have to choose a favorite because they're completely different! Four Mile has a classic bakery feel- not trendy, but tried and true. I have never had a bad donut from here, ever! Finally I remembered to go on a Friday since they only open 3 days a week. It's out in the boonies but it's a beautiful drive. I took my sweet time to browse in the store and flocks of people came in and out, all left with box(es) of donuts. I tried a cinnamon twist and boy that was a giant donut. With a cup of crimson red I think I'm all set for the day. People there are sweet and the store is clean and well kept. The furniture store next door is really neat too! read more

We drove 30 minutes out of our way just to get a dozen glazed donuts. They are delicious. Each bite melts in your mouth. They are huge but very light. But defiantly not light in calories! We bought a dozen for $14.99. Day old dozen is $6.99 and I bet they are just as good. Next time I'll try those as my husband has had them a day old and told me after we checked out that they are just as good. They also carry other donuts like apple fritters, cream filled and others for $1.99 each. The store also had home made bread and rolls, canned food, pop, single serving milk, and bulk candy broken down into containers. They also offer sandwiches. They have picnic tables and other seating on their porch. If we are ever in the area, we will stop in for lunch. They are only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for limited hours. Off the main highways, down a few backroads, and seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the Four Mile Bakery is a great secret nestled away in the woods of rural southern Ohio. Don't concern yourself too much with the "General Store" part--Go for the bakery. Amish doughnuts, pies, and bread are second to none! (Though the cheese is quite delicious, too!) If you find yourself anywhere near Jackson, definitely go out of your way to the Four Mile Bakery to grab half a dozen of the doughnuts. Take a look at the pictures. See that little girl with the bulging eyes and a death-grip on an absurdly huge doughnut? Yes, these doughnuts are that big AND that good--one bite and you'll be addicted. It's fortunate that there are about 50 normal sized bites per doughnut. As far as side-of-the-road Amish bakeries go, this is definitely my favorite! read more

The donuts are great! I love that fact that they are homemade. The owner was super nice. He came out and surprised us with multiple samples. The chocolate and glaze twist was one of my favorites. Dear god, the donuts here are amazing. Completely worth the drive out to Four Mile. The glazed donuts are gigantic and amazing. Get there early and they are still warm. I wish they were open more often. They are only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, which means you have to plan your donut cravings, but it's totally worth the wait. I also come out here because they have a variety of other baking goods and they are the only ones that sell my favorite brand of molasses. read more

These are some of the biggest donuts I've ever tried. They're heavy and yeasty and so freaking good! The creamfilled donuts are exceptionally good too. The hours can be a little wonky, so consider calling ahead if this will be a drive for you, and don't worry about the country location. It really isn't that hard to find! read more

Worth the money and the drive. They are located right in the middle of an Amish settlement of at least 2000 people. They make their donuts the old-fashioned way by hand and you can watch them do it through the kitchen window. If you get there late in the afternoon ...don't expect the same selection and variety that is available at 10 AM. It's the best donut I ever ate. read more

When I walked in to this bakery, I knew I was in for a treat. It smells like heaven. I had lunch here and wasn't all that impressed, but I am giving this a five star rating simply for the donuts. They are huge, as other reviewers have noted, and they are light and delicious and the biggest problem I can see is that I could eat myself into a stupor here. The Four Mile Bakery have a large array of baked goods to choose from, but my personal favorites are their large glazed Amish donuts and delectable cinnamon rolls. Visited the bakery for the first time today after seeing their ads on TV. We enjoyed the drive and beautiful Ohio country roads. The lunch menu was great. I really enjoyed the Chicken Salad Sandwich. Our one BIG disappointment was that in the commercial they show "sticky buns" or "pecan rolls". When I ask about it I was told she didn't know what I was talking about. I said it is shown in you TV commercial along with all the other baked goods. She didn't have any answer or seemed to care. It is a beautiful place and I wish them well. read more

The gentleman who owns Four Mile Bakery & General Store made me feel so welcome from the moment I stepped foot in the door. The design of the store is absolutely beautiful and a cozy kind of simple, and the selection of doughnuts was incredible. My mom's favorite dessert is pineapple upside down cake, and Four Mile makes pineapple upside down doughnuts! She was over the moon about that. I admit it, every once in awhile I get a craving for a donut. When I do, nothing seems to quell my craving until I get my fix. The problem is that rarely does the donut taste as good as I thught it would, and no matter how many varieties are in the case, they all seem to taste the same. This is NOT TRUE of the doughnuts from Four Mile Bakery. Today I stopped into this general store and bakery. I could have spent much more time browsing the market but I had job to get to so I kept the browsing to a minimum and headed straight for the self service donut case. There I found 7 or 8 different varieties of delicious looking and more importantly tasting donuts. I ate just 2 kinds, one that was filled with cream and the outside was coated with powdered sugar. My second indulgance was a delicious custard filled maple donut. These donuts were worth the 4 mile country road drive, and every calorie! Well, they still have wagon wheel donuts but little else. In the past we would travel from Huntington WV not only for donuts but meats, cheeses sandwiches etc. These all seem to be gone now. The old country store atmosphere has been replaced with prepackaged offerings like just another gas station along the road. read more
