Silver Metallic Pen
Jami N.

If one feels the arts and crafting bug, one has little choice when it comes to brick and mortar stores. So I braved the treacherous city streets and flung myself into a Michaels. Today's quest: procure a silver metallic pen. Locating an employee, a rare sighting, to ask where an item resides in the infinite aisles of craftdom is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. When I finally spotted an employee, I inquired and was kindly directed to the place where the fancy pens live. The fancy pens must have been stricken by some malady as the selection was abysmal, the stock down to perhaps 10% of its proposed variety and quantity. Price was agreeable when coupled with the routinely reliable 20% off coupon they send in daily emails. No longer employing humans to run the cash registers, there are now multiple new self-checkouts, which for a couple minutes, makes me feel as if I work there.

For those who don't know me too well, I am DIY genie and I love to craft! In my hometown we had about 6 crafting stores and my mom was a creative genius so moving to Santa Barbara a few years back I was heart broken to find we have little no craft based stores.. except Michaels! Michaels has been my go to for anything and everything Do It Yourself. Thank you notes, picture frames, cake decorating, you name it, they have it. There are always great sales going on and they accept multiple/old coupons. The staff are very kind and helpful, and propose great ideas when you are stuck in a rut. I often find myself just walking through every single aisle, almost like my therapy, trying to find sales and create new ideas for things I can make. I get so excited when they have new products (which is very often) and something I love goes on sale (which is also very often). The parking lot here is huge and you will never have an issue there. There is a Sprouts to the left, a Bed, Bath, and Beyond to the right, and a Right Aid right in front. Quite honestly, Fairview Plaza has all your shopping needs within one park and walk. Would definitely recommend checking out the Michaels for all your creative, crafty needs!

While it's a standard Michael's, which I consider a so-so generic art supply store, I am giving this 5-star review because of the framing staff and the store's manager who went out of their way to help me get my presentation posters mounted and back to me in 24 hours. Outstanding! Thank you again!!!!!

I had an awkwardly-shaped poster in need of framing, but could not opt for a standard size.

My wedding…read moreinvitations, which I've spent MONTHS designing need to go out by end of day (because of course I waited until the last possible moment). I am finally getting them into their envelopes and what's this?? The adhesive isn't strong enough, the flaps are lifting! Cue the aforementioned panic. I call Ink Paper Crafts to see if they have washi tape. They do. Tons of it. It's not an ideal solution for my fancy invites but it will have to do. I jump in the car and get there an hour before closing, damp from the rain and -- let's be honest -- probably a little bit of sweat, wedding invite in hand. I'm trying to find a washi tape that will semi-match the vibe and then, like an angel sent from heaven, the owner walks up to me and says "I've got something better for you." She proceeds to introduce me to this magical tape dispenser that absolutely saved the day. And she wouldn't even let me pay her for it!! "My wedding gift to you," she said. I was stunned. It's been so long since I've had this experience shopping. You know how it is -- we're all buying everything on amazon and there's no warmth, no connection. Not only will I be a loyal Ink Paper Craft customer for LIFE but I also feel so motivated to keep shopping small business. This is what it's all about. Thank you to this amazing woman for making my day and helping me remember the most important thing of all -- kindness in key moments can change everything.

Unfortunately, it didn't turn out to be a great experience. * No blank pottery to paint - Everything available already had printed designs on it. We were hoping to paint our own plates, cups, or bowls, but there were no plain pieces available. * Very limited selection - The inventory felt small. We were told a party of 20 was coming in, and it seemed like the blank items might have been saved for them. * Unhelpful service - When we asked about options, the staff didn't seem very helpful or friendly. * Pricing - There's a $10 studio fee per painter, and many of the stamped platters were around $42 more, which felt expensive for items that were already pre-designed. Since there was nothing blank to paint, we ended up leaving without doing the activity. We were hoping to try something different from Color Me Mine, but unfortunately this visit didn't work out for us. We're going to Color Me Mine.
