    Silver Metallic Pen
    Jami N.

If one feels the arts and crafting bug, one has little choice when it comes to brick and mortar stores. So I braved the treacherous city streets and flung myself into a Michaels. Today's quest: procure a silver metallic pen. Locating an employee, a rare sighting, to ask where an item resides in the infinite aisles of craftdom is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. When I finally spotted an employee, I inquired and was kindly directed to the place where the fancy pens live. The fancy pens must have been stricken by some malady as the selection was abysmal, the stock down to perhaps 10% of its proposed variety and quantity. Price was agreeable when coupled with the routinely reliable 20% off coupon they send in daily emails. No longer employing humans to run the cash registers, there are now multiple new self-checkouts, which for a couple minutes, makes me feel as if I work there.

For those who don't know me too well, I am DIY genie and I love to craft! In my hometown we had about 6 crafting stores and my mom was a creative genius so moving to Santa Barbara a few years back I was heart broken to find we have little no craft based stores.. except Michaels! Michaels has been my go to for anything and everything Do It Yourself. Thank you notes, picture frames, cake decorating, you name it, they have it. There are always great sales going on and they accept multiple/old coupons. The staff are very kind and helpful, and propose great ideas when you are stuck in a rut. I often find myself just walking through every single aisle, almost like my therapy, trying to find sales and create new ideas for things I can make. I get so excited when they have new products (which is very often) and something I love goes on sale (which is also very often). The parking lot here is huge and you will never have an issue there. There is a Sprouts to the left, a Bed, Bath, and Beyond to the right, and a Right Aid right in front. Quite honestly, Fairview Plaza has all your shopping needs within one park and walk. Would definitely recommend checking out the Michaels for all your creative, crafty needs!

While it's a standard Michael's, which I consider a so-so generic art supply store, I am giving this 5-star review because of the framing staff and the store's manager who went out of their way to help me get my presentation posters mounted and back to me in 24 hours. Outstanding! Thank you again!!!!!

Happy to have a craft store in SB. However, they never have enough people working the registers and thus take a long while to check out.

Good for DIY costume creation supplies, white elephant gifts, some party supplies, ceramic animals, fake flowers and baskets.

I had an awkwardly-shaped poster in need of framing, but could not opt for a standard size.

They also host musical events and charity events for the community, Oxnard simply would not be the place it is without these guys. I've actually known the owners for a while too, the kindest and fun guys you'll ever meet, shout-out Fusion and Elliot. (don't forget Alex) So if you're ever down on A Street in Oxnard, look for the big blue question mark, for it's not just a store, it's a home. :3

The last time I came a few months back, there seemed to be ongoing reorganization so I wasn't able to see everything they had to offer. While I could see it being a nice place to play for some especially with it boasting many weekly events for a variety of card games (Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, Pokemon), I felt the sealed and single selections were both pricey and less plentiful compared to what I have seen at other shops. Some services such as the charging station are great to offer especially when games of commander can take up a an hour or more!

Seems like things are in flux at Mike's Trains. We made a special trip to Lompoc yesterday,…read moreheading south from San Luis Obispo. We were planning to check out / purchase hopefully several of his handmade birdhouses. We've bought a number of them in the past. That was when he had one room as an annex to a larger gift shop. Now that gift shop is gone (or moved?) and Mike is taking over both rooms. The renovation is still ongoing. When we arrived on a Monday afternoon the shop was closed, and there wasn't a sign in the window indicating the days that they are open. We could glance inside and see the remodeling and remerchandising going on, mainly to the secondary room which used to be their only space. We could see a number of birdhouses through the windows of both rooms. The prices have increased since we were last there two years ago. I can understand this - aftermath of inflation. Had the shop been open, we would have been a quandary on making a purchase. We have kept some of the birdhouses ourselves, gave them as gifts, and resold a couple after adding a few tweaks of our own. The current price point makes it harder to think of the latter purpose. Wishing Mike well in his new, expanded space. There aren't that many train hobby shops any longer, so hopefully he'll flourish.

Mike's super friendly and a very knowledgeable guy. We had a very lovely conversation about honey, history, and his shop! He has an absolutely impressive stock of all things train related. He also had many bird houses of all shapes and sizes. In addition, he has a section reserved for local pickled foods and local honey. Unfortunately, Archie, the beekeeper, no longer serves honey in this area. However, they do carry local sage honey from Las Flores Apiaries! *I recommend calling in before you stop by! The hours are sometimes a little weird because he drives far out to come to the store!
