I recently purchased a lounge set from Cost Plus, and while the experience started with a small hiccup, it ended on such a positive note thanks to the incredible staff. One of the tables appeared to be missing a leg, and one of the chairs we wanted was out of stock in the store. Carolina was so helpful in getting a new chair ordered for us and arranging for the missing table leg. The chair arrived quickly, but the leg took a bit longer, so I reached out again. That's when Jamie, one of the managers, stepped in. She immediately started problem-solving with her GM and came up with a few creative options to get us what we needed as quickly as possible. I really appreciated how proactive and thoughtful she was--she clearly cared about making things right. When we went back to pick up the replacement leg, we realized (after seeing the tables again in-store) that our movers had actually used the wrong leg on one of the tables--so we didn't need a new one after all! Even so, the level of customer service we received throughout the process was outstanding. Carolina and Jamie were both terrific--helpful, patient, and genuinely invested in helping us. Look, we shop at Cost Plus all of the time in Santa Rosa. We love the store. Wanted to share the experience we had here in Santa Barbara. We stopped in to get some Christmas ornaments for our family. We picked out quite a few and went to the check out. The young cashier seemed lost. We were having difficulty with the app to check for coupons and from the store in Santa Rosa they would give us a number to text that would log you into their site to check you coupons. We ask the young man and he tells us there is no such number. We tell him we've done it before he again tells us no. We ask him to call or ask a manager who quickly gives him the number. Ok you don't know. Then ask for help. We bought maybe 25 ornaments and the cashier started throwing them all into a bag with no separation or anything wrapped around them. When we asked if he could at least wrap the glass ones he rolled his eyes and begrudgingly wrapped three ornaments. We'll see when we get home how many of the ornaments will still be intact. I love to see young people working but this young man needs someone to train him and observe how he interacts with customers. read more

This store is interesting because I kind of love dropping by all the time but the customer service is atrocious. Not in the sense that the staff is rude, but their sense of urgency is completely non existent. Having worked retail for many years myself, I'm always shocked at how incredibly slow the ringing up and service practices are here. The managers move at a snails pace too, and even when asking basic questions one is met with deer in headlight looks and utter confusion. It's kind of, comedically bizarre. There are other little hints that they just hire anyone, like hardware, merchandising binders, and incomplete displays being left out but this won't register to most basic shoppers. Otherwise, while the product is not necessarily often refreshed or new stuff brought in, it's still a fun place to poke about in and if one is a smart shopper there are some good deals to be found. read more

Horrible online service - do not order anything online! they do not have a phone number if you have problems. You have to use email and they just don't respond. I had two shipments of plates arrive broken. They never responded when I told them it was shipped to the wrong place and broken. I finally took them into the store where I waited twenty minutes trying to find a receipt online cuz evidently they don't have a database of your orders which makes no sense. Then they told me after I carried everything there that they could not help me. I will not use them again. read more

They have a wide variety of store offerings, from furnitures, to home decors, to wine, food (both from the East and West)--- truly a lot of choices, a one stop shop. I love that items are of good quality and reasonably priced. One of my favorite home decor shops. This shop is very refreshing, nice arrangements plus it is clean. I always enjoy shopping at Cost Plus, so this location is no exception. It's located right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. If you've never been in a Cost Plus, it's a store chock full of imports from all over the world. They sell a little bit of everything: Jewelry; wine; food; furniture; toys; etc. It's definitely a great store to purchase gifts - for yourself, or others, I suppose. They have a licensing agreement with Sanrio, so that's my main focus. The Hello Kitty butter cookie tin I got here is the best. So many buttery cookie delights with her either embossed on each cookie or in the shape of a bow. There's always a good vibe in the store. The store is always clean. Cost Plus is my go to on so many levels! Need discount international wine? Cost Plus. Need a cookie press for grandma that says "Made with Love?" Cost Plus. Need a hipster sweater for your dog and gluten free treats from Cuba? Cost Plus. Being that this is a huge national chain I don't think i need to say much more about the brand - You can check out their website for details. But this particular store deserves specific recognition. The staff here are very kind, on top of the line game and always have the registers at both ends of the store open for check out. They keep things neat and tidy, know where things are when you ask for help, and are very respectful when dealing with customer issues. This location has a tiny parking lot, and I mean tiny, that lines up with the backdoor. There is also a massive Public Parking lot right behind the store that is 60 second walking distance away. The store size is big but not overwhelming and very well organized to where you don't feel hopeless and lost like at Macy's. They have a clearance section in the very center of the store and a secret sale section in the front left corner of the baking/cooking area (if you are facing the store from State St). They also tend to mark random things on the shelf down, all the time. Regular prices are pretty affordable for everything but furniture and big items in home decor. They are amazing to get ideas from, though, if anything. I love this store, will be back many times (this week), and will continue to highly recommend it to others. read more

I had to stock up on all of my new college apartment decor and my parents weren't able to make it, she gave perfect assistance on helping me find everything! Sadly, downgrading my review from the last time. We meandered through last night. Whereas before they had colorful displays at the front entrance to set a mood, this time the product features were lacking visual appeal. Ditto the accessories department of hats, scarves, and jewelry. Mostly the colors were flat / muted and uninteresting. Bah! Pretty weak when a scarf lover like me can't find one that appeals. There were some colorful areas, like the outdoor furniture cushions. They were plentiful and vibrant. Easter baskets and fillings were also still well represented. The Cashier needs stronger prescription glasses. It happens, the register lists a higher price than what is listed on the shelf. I pointed that out to her, so she walks all the way to the back of the store to check the price. "No it's not on sale", she says to rectify the register price. That had nothing to do with the listed price, all you had to do was read it correctly, but no. You need stronger prescription glasses or start using reading glasses. I just walked away, why should I prove I'm right for the $1.50 difference. Thanks for saving me the cost of 2 expensive 6-packs, while you cost the World Market to lose $26. read more

With it's location in downtown, parking may be a challenge as the lot is a bit small unless you go at a good time. Over the years I have shopped at world market and found some really great quality items that are unique and fairly priced. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable, and the selection is constantly changing, bringing in new items. This past weekend, two colleagues and myself decided to gift our boss an office. We had to do it quickly, and went to Cost Plus World Market to get the couch, pillows, end table and decorative items. We were very fortunate to have met employees Buck and Richard, who helped us throughout the process and even called a neighboring store to find out if what we needed was in stock. They searched the store room, and found pieces that were behind boxes and not very easy to move. They worked hand-in-hand with us to provide exactly what we wanted! We couldn't have been happier. The customer service was absolutely incredible from beginning to the end. We want to THANK Cost Plus World Market! World Market is super fun to shop around. It's so diverse- from the various snacks to chairs and rugs, you can get lost in this place for a while. I really loved the candles that they carried, as well as the European chocolates. The Christmas ornaments were also super cute! The one complaint I have here is the line. I don't know if some customers are just rude or naive, but I was definitely cut by multiple people, and the staff did not say anything. It was definitely frustrating, as it seemed like people were dumbfounded and did not understand that I was blatantly standing in line. As you may be able to tell, line cutters really bother me and really cramp my style. read more

Right now, three things draw me here 1. Duplo, a German chocolate candy that is like Kit Kat, but Hazelnut flavored 2. Bavarian Sauerkraut, because a German friend has given us his somewhat secret recipe of which we bastardized via mixing it with other versions we found online 3. Lemon-lime & bitters, a drink that I was introduced to when I traveled to Oz I must say, the last few times I've been here, the service has been fantastic. I have been popping in now and again because the bf has really enjoyed this specific beer, which is currently on sale and is hard to come by. Found out recently that when they get a shipment in, it's only for 2 cases. That seems rather silly, especially if it's on sale. Funny thing is that a competitor brand is available by the truck load, but thus is life. I'm not much of a beer fanatic, but even I enjoy this one, so that definitely added to my incentive. Anyway... They have a nice selection of alcohol, chocolates, treats, and international goodies (tim tams or ginger people anyone?) A few times I've selected a wine based on price and the pretty label just for something new and different to try. It's nice to be able to go to a local store and get items that I've had in other countries so easily available in the States without them having to be at astronomical prices. This is one of the few places in this area that also has furniture. I recently was looking for a couch and they have a decent selection, as well as other furniture items like chairs and tables. But I do it anyway, it's convenient, in the heart of State Street, so if I have a bit of time to kill, I go in and do more than browsing. I guess I can't resist it. Came here with a friend of mine and we both found great stuff. I found so much great stuff I decided to buy one of their cloth tote bags to haul it all home in. Love their international candies and sweets as well as their Christmas ornaments! My friend was interested in their plates, mugs and bowls and they were having a big furniture sale when we stopped in too. Staff was helpful and very polite. I had an A+ experience today at World Market, which isn't always the case. Black Friday savings applied today on the Sunday after Black Friday. There were some good deals! I spent about 30.00 and left with a bunch of great goodies for me and friends. The young man who helped us at the cash register in the back of the store was so helpful! He helped us December 1, 2019 at 6:41 pm, and is very smart and helpful! The staff member helped me to get online coupons that I haven't had access to via text message. One of my favorite big boxes in Santa Barbara - fortunate that this spot is in my downtown neighborhood. The selection is amazing. I dig the whole boho-chic vibe that this store provides. A lot of my home purchases have come from here. Unlike other big box chains, the decor sold here is of high quality and is typically colorful, whimsical, on-trend, and full of character. Prices aren't bad, either - and you can make an online purchase to pick up in-store if you're too impatient (like me) to just go in and peruse. Customer service has always been pretty good here. I feel like the front-of-house staff will acknowledge you as you enter, and the floor staff are always willing and able to assist. I came in tonight with what I'd consider a "complicated" order. I had bought an item online - complete with an online-only coupon - to be picked up in store. My impatient self then drove directly to World Market to procure said item before even receiving the email that it was ready and on hold for me. I found the item and noticed that it was far too big, though the size down would be perfect. I presented my case to the cashier, and she was surprisingly calm and accommodating. The manager arrived soon thereafter to reject my online order (which hadn't yet been charged to my card), and provided me with the same discount on the smaller item. I've worked in retail before and such transactions would have surely received an eye roll from the assisting staff. Nope, not here. Just good customer service, which I so appreciate. A big thank you to the staff whom had assisted me tonight. I love my new purchase and will be back soon. This time, however, I will have all my ducks in a row. :) read more
