My Fiber Arts group went together on a "field trip" to explore. They have all kinds of fabrics, kits, & curated bundles of fat quarters for quilting. Everything is so well thought out, presented, and displayed. I know a bunch of my friends who are going to want to move in & "live" there. It is around in the rear of a shopping center, so as you turn in from Benfield Rd, go all the way back past the string if restaurants and stores and around the rear corner. On this most recent trip to the MD Burbs for a Yelp event, I was delighted to find Three Little Birds just a few miles from my hotel. So I stopped in during my lunch break on a mission to find just the right fabric for a wedding quilt I'm sewing for a dear family member. This shop is really, really cute! They carry mostly modern fabrics, plus a ton of knitting/crocheting supplies. In the back is a classroom area, and they have lots of project samples, notions, and one of the best selection of sewing books I've seen. The best news is: I found the perfect fabric for the wedding quilt! And I had just enough space in my suitcase to get it home and start cutting. Highly recommend this little shop if you're in the area and on a hunt for some new fabric!

It took us almost six months to make it out there on a Saturday, but we went last weekend in search of yarn for a hat he wants to make. We were both impressed with the shop. Lana, the owner, is delightful and super helpful. She asked which of us was the knitter and didn't assume it was me (it is both! But he was the shopper that day!) and she spent a bunch of time showing him options based on what parameters he gave. While they searched I went off on my own looking at the selection and saw she has a really good variety of both workhorse standards and some luxury brands as well. When hubby wasn't sure if he would need 2 or 3 balls due to ambiguity in how the pattern requirements were described, she said if he bought 3 and didn't use the last one he could return it - that is very rare! I suspect he could make something from the third if he doesn't use it anyway but it was very kind of her to offer. She has a cute and very chill pup hanging out at the store with her and many samples to see how various yarns knit up. Honestly if I hadn't gone completely off the rails buying 3 sweater quantities at Alpaca & Fleece last month I would have bought a bunch for myself too when we were there. Next time!

As for me, I drove my wife 35+ miles to shop at this twee little place that had a "three customers only" Covid admission note. As my wife and I stepped in, a staffer said that one of us would have to stay outside. I went back to sit in the car. Nobody else arrived or left. Just then a middle-aged lady arrived, went inside, and was apparently asked to stay outside. A few seconds later a staffer bobbed her head out and invited the lady in. Apparently the "three customers only" rule is in force only if you are male. Or somebody mysteriously dematerialized. I won't be coming back. By the way, this experience is like one we had at a fabric joint in Occoquan, VA, run by a jittery woman. So I'm done venturing into fabric stores with my wife.

They are always friendly and willing to help. They definitely have the most variety of fabrics I've seen in the area. While some can be pricey I promise they're worth it! I will say my only complaint is I wish there were more fabric types. They obviously specialize in quality cotton/linen fabrics but I would love to see more types!
