My sister and mom got a $10 grab bag box and I helped my mom go through hers. I had noticed a few items that I could use for my kids on the school bus. I asked my husband to go with me and that's how we ended up here. So we found the boxes and proceeded to grab 5 of them. We noticed that the self checkouts were all card only, but one. The guy in front of us used it and then walked away- so we went to the register. The lady looked at us and was like "ugh, can I help you" and we said yes we have these. She was talking on the radio and kept telling us to use a self checkout and I said I had cash. She was like ugh and said I will see if I can get someone here. Mind you we were standing in front of her for more than 5mins. And My husband was like no it's fine don't worry about it he would just use his card and she just was like okay and walked away. I understand if you're are in between something, but being in retail you assist the customer or explain the situation like "I'm sorry I don't work up here, but I can definitely have someone come up here to help you if you don't mind waiting for a minute," but no she just doesn't say anything and was like she wanted to get away and rolled her eyes. read more

Incompetent and uncaring staff. My daughter and I went to Michael's to buy a present. We started out at a self checkout and tried to print a gift receipt. We asked an employee for help. She told us the self checkouts can't print gift receipt, go to a person to check out. We went to a person and the first thing we said is that we need a gift receipt. They rang us up and didn't print a gift receipt. We asked again for one. The person at first acted like they didn't know what we were asking, then asked a coworker, who said we needed to use a self checkout to print a gift receipt. read more

They have sales and coupons. You never know what's going on sale though. They're usually a little pricey without the coupons and they don't have many people there to assist. They definitely don't have expertise generally speaking. read more

A side from the experience of a very small and limited crafting supply inventory and the staff with little or no knowledge of art supplies, Michael's is now capitalizing on hiring people to just walk around. They now require the customer to check themselves out after providing their personal information for Michael's to sell, and with these cost savings to the company the customer doesn't get any. read more

Needed to buy a few frames for home. I went and found them, on sale. I saw there was a coupon you could scan with your phone, but for some reason it was only on a stanchion sign at the front of the store, not in multiple places like it has been in the past. I walk up to the sign to scan the code and a young employee immediately reprimands me. He says I cannot scan the code and to get it online using my phone. He then asked me if I knew how to do that, in a condescending tone. I bought my stuff and left. Not sure what that was all about. Wonder if he always speaks with an attitude of superiority. Seriously, its only a coupon. He was supposed to be watching the self-check outs, but instead was watching that sign. I hope he gets over whatever was bothering him. I understand cashiers are frustrated but doesn't mean they have the right to spread it towards customers, I wasn't sure about a price and asked if the cashier can check it for me and she gave me an attitude "I don't know the price" and didn't let me know if she was going to check it for me so I asked if she could check for me please And respond to me "I will check it once I'm done" with an attitude. That makes me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable to approach to workers when I'm concerned about something. read more

I just returned an apothecary jar that was in store for $32, but because I didn't have the original receipt (since it was a gift from my husband), they gave me a store credit of $12.99!!! I spoke to the manager, Jason, who said that it "wasn't his policy", and could care less that I was upset. Seriously!?!? What are you doing with my $19 Michaels? What a great location! Every time I come in here the employees are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They are helpful, but not breathing down your neck while you shop and that is something I appreciate more than anything while shopping. They have a great selection of Cricut supplies and also an incredible variety of vinyl and all things related. I forgot about the early closure on Sunday, and so I ended up being that terrible retail customer that keeps the store open. the manager, Tony, was so nice and didn't make me feel out of place at all and even offered to let me stay in the store until the registers were about to shut down. I love coming to this Michael's, and Tony really reinforced that feeling today with his kindness. Great job for having such a kind manager who genuinely cares about the customers in the store. That's a rare find! Also, Michael's price matches to Walmart, Amazon, and several other retailers. They also take coupons from competitors such as Jo-Ann's (which usually always has a 50% or more coupon available daily) And that is a huge reason why I shop here! read more

I love this place! Although it seems like it's a small Michael's you are sure to find anything for your crafty needs! I usually go and buy art supplies, beads, frames, paper, decor, pots... Oh dear never mind I go here for a lot of things! It must be their coupons (40% off) and good customer service, cashiers are always nice and patient when I'm looking for my online coupon. I've been here twice for framing and won't be back. The price is not much better than stand-alone operations such as Mann's Art & Frame and the quality and service are worse. My first job was placing a custom mat in one of their off-the-shelf frames for a watercolor. It looks OK, but the price for the matting was not cheap. Additionally, they never called when it was ready despite saying they would and printing that on the receipt. More recently, I brought an item framed at a Michael's in Arizona where the print had slipped in the mat for adjustment. They did agree to fix it for no charge, which I appreciate. However, they did not call again when it was complete and it was difficult to reach the store on the phone. Oddly, if I called twice in close succession (as I needed to on two occasions), their phone tree would drop the call. When I called again using *67 to hide my number the call went through. read more

That said, I try to browse for a little while and then ask for help. I literally spent about 15 minutes trying to find an associate on the floor willing to help. The ones I was ready to approach seemed like they were on a mission to save the world and couldn't be disturbed. The guy I actually cornered didn't look too enthused to help. I don't know if it was an off day. Quite possible. However, I should be able to find a willing soul to help me, not have to stalk someone and some smiles wouldn't hurt. I don't know about these cashiers with no customer service experience. I guess I should be glad that the cashier said Thank you but maybe she was glad for me to be out of the store. To actually say that you are not cleaning on the other side of the cash out line because you didn't make the mess is appalling. Normally people work together to keep the store open. I tried to pay as a credit card and it timed out on me. She said "it's because you didn't put your pin". I told her it didn't asked for it. I dropped off two canvas art pieces to be gallery wrapped on 5/20/2022. I was charged $270 and told it would be ready by 6/20/2022. When I went to pick up on 6/20, I was advised that there was a computer glitch and the stretcher bar was not ordered, but that they would order it and the art would be ready in one week. I decided to give them two weeks, and called on 7/2/2022 to see if the art was done. It was not done, in fact it had not been started yet and I was told the person who would be working on it would not be in until 7/5/2022, so they couldn't really tell me when it would be done. This location in Old Town is always fully stocked with seasonal decor and more. Associates can easily be found in the aisles even on those busy days. They are extremely helpful with merchandise and always take the time to check other stores as well as in entity in the back. I haven't taken one of their crafting classes but they are always full. The layout of this store is easy to access too, I've been to other that have floating middle aisles that I'm not too fond of. Parking here can be crazy but if you don't mind a short walk, shades parking can be found easily on the side of the building. They always have the BEST Halloween decor and crafts, and they are ALWAYS on sale! Copped me some glass Jack-o-Lanterns for $3.59. You also get coupons with every check out. Shop on folks! read more

This is the Michaels closest to my house. Do I like Michaels? Honestly...? Yeah, it's A-OK, a lot of the craft supplies are kind of crappy and not very cool. Are the employees helpful? No. Are they even half friendly? Eh, not really. Case in point: I nearly always come in with the 40% off coupon in the flyer (people, ALWAYS come with the coupon!), but I have forgotten it at home on the rare occasion. On a crazy day of running errands, I found myself here with no friggin' coupon. Remembering the time I needed the coupon once at another Michaels location and just given one at customer service when I asked, I asked this store's customer service if they had any extra coupons. Whoever was behind the counter just raised an eyebrow at me and said "Uh, yeah, no we don't do that'. Well, whatever then. So I just left and came back the next day with that stupid scrap of paper and saved the $20. Assholes. I hate to admit it, but I spend over $100 a month in crafting supplies. I spend only a small percentage of that at this store because half of the time I leave I have a bad taste in my mouth. But in a pinch and I need adhesive or a hole punch, I'll make a run... but only if I have a damn coupon :). read more

Oh Michaels, you are no Hobby Lobby...but I still love you. I have always been a pretty crafty person and I admit that I can get stuck for hours in hobby shops trying to ascertain which is the perfect shade of blue for my next painting. I have always been an avid Hobby Lobby shopper as their selection is MUCH more extensive and their prices are lower. However, considering there is like only one freaking Hobby Lobby in Dallas...it's not really an option for me. Michael's selection is a little limited, but they do have fantastic sales throughout the year. They often run a promo where you can receive 60% off your total framing order, which is awesome considering it is quite pricey to have artwork or pictures professionally framed. During the holidays they also run great sales on Christmas decorating products. Just beware of the ridiculous crowds. Tricia S. and I came here the other day since we were both in the holiday decorating spirit. Since I spend much of the winter break in San Antonio, I don't mess with getting a full size tree. At Michaels I was able to buy a 12" tree and all the decorations (excluding lights) for under $15! The crowds were ridiculous though and at a few points I felt extremely claustrophobic. During normal seasonal times though Michaels is typically not as crowded and things are fairly easy to find throughout the store. read more
