This place is really nice. It has a lot of things like RC cars, RC boats and things to build overall it's pretty nice.

Started off having a good experience with this store until they Had me order a part they told me they would put on and fit for me and tune my car all to act like they didn't even remember me and told me they didn't really have anyone to work on nitro rc cars while i could visibly see the guy who told me he would work on my car acting like i wasn't there he also incorrectly diagnosed an issue with my car so i ordered that part for no reason and it wasn't even anything to crazy wrong with the car lol because i came home and figured it right out they didn't even want to take a look at it too busy talking could've took my filter off and figured it right out...and they told me over the phone that it would be no problem to get what i needed done to it before i came read more

Excellent service for the type of social , family-owned environment. I can seriously understand that some customers are busy and want an in-and-out service. The store is stocked and shelved to the tilt with displayed moving DIY kits, puzzles, games , drones, and even airsoft rifles. The staff members seem strategically placed. There was a member in each section who could answer the questions about the items I had an interest in. There was an RC plane guy, RC drone guy, RC car guy, and arts and crafts guy. It took me a little over 2 years to write up a review. I definitely have to give it to the management at that store. John, I believe his name is, awesome. I've been to the Lewisville store(awesome also). There was a guy (management)there who I guess double-checked both stores. Excellent service, very informative. I mean very. I've never met management, so he's hands-on. He didn't try to just sell all the expensive items to get my project together; he recommended time and time again what was needed and offered the expensive items as an alternate, which makes a customer feel like he's making the choice and not being juiced. That's not why I gave them 5 stars. I went in for a part 3 different occasions. There was a kid in there with his RC. Hey kid, you're always here. He said something to the effect that he had nowhere or nothing else to do. An employee follows up and says we'd rather he be in here with us than roaming the streets. Superb selection of everything Traxxas, largest I've seen in a single store. Many products from kids to crafters to flight enthusiasts. Great friendly staff members set me up with what I needed to restore an old Traxxas truck then walked out with a bill equal to anything online and getting dirty the same day. read more

My last and I mean my last visit there ever. First they've rearranged stuff so I ask where drill chucks are. The idiot CLERK from RC was more concerned with stuffing his face with some hamburger than his customers. Now for the icing on the tombstone. Before they got hooked up with Wild Bills' it used to be common to have customers' work in the display cases. I had put three in there off and on. The last was a diorama I had worked two months on, mixing paint, creating the scene etc. I went there during spring break and it was there, I go in and it's GONE! I ask what happened and after some twitching, they admit they sold it for a puny $60 to some guy in chains. The woman just dismisses it as a mistake, no real apology and pretends to call someone who was actually in the store. The other clerk/idiot says he didn't know what to do. The woman who is some sort of "manager" stuffs the $60 in my hand and doesn't give one rats a$$. She made no attempt to see if she could help me locate another kit, never mind the other supplies I would need to recreate my STOLEN PROPERTY! I NEVER authorized this sale and sure as he11 not the bargain basement price these McDonalds rejects sold it for. If they wanted it gone, they have my number and the woman was the one who put it in the case! I talked to the person she supposedly called and he said he would replace the kit and the case. I rather doubt I'll hear from Greg though. read more

This is a sweet little hobby shop with one serious flaw. It's run by a matriarch and a bunch of young guys, who may be her kin or just a bunch of young guys in need of ritalin. A really friendly bunch that knows and enjoys playing with the product... that is key. There are carefully curated sections for RC cars and planes (especially), Pinewood Derby mods (this where Cub Scouts learn to game the system and start to turn into Bernie Madoff), Japanese model planes, Estes-powered rockets, Warhammer (both Fantasy and 40K), Things That Shoot and more. If you are interested in any of these as well as others i did not sample, you will find eye and wallet candy galore. But here's the star deduction: their return policy... or more correctly, the lack of one. Come back a few hours later to return the model in original packaging with credit card receipt because Grandma has decided to buy the boys her own gift... and you'll be told sorry, no refunds, just a house credit. There is a sign which explains that this is to "help them maintain their pricing policy" or some such but the prices are full retail, so I don't buy it. Very inconvenient for an out-of-town shopper who's not likely to redeem that store credit. read more

Came here to the HobbyTown USA in Dallas, TX thinking that it would be the same as all the others in the CONUS regions - - was surprised this one is BIGGER and 2x storied. They have many unique items, including collectible items they've bought from past customers to add to their selections. I was helped by a manger on some items that were on sale. Recommended! I purchased over $100 in beginner air soft equipment on Saturday and needed to return about half of it since my nephew wanted something different. I was only returning half of the items entirely unopened with receipt in the same bag on Monday, literally two days later, and they did not want to refund the purchase. I asked to speak to the manager and he first said he'd do a refund with a 20% restocking fee... it's ridiculous..and then I begged him to reduce it and he finally agreed on a 10% restocking fee. Again and again this is my favorite store to visit in the area. The combination of high end RC toys, collectibles and literal toys make it a overwhelming experience for kids of all ages. This location in Dallas is considered to be a main location, and it shows. Compared to my local location in Rockwall the size is nearly 4 times larger. There is a absolutely massive selection of high end toys like slot cars, trains, boats, planes, cars, trucks and helicopters among much more. Die-Cast cars in multiple scales, hobby paints, airsoft guns and an entire section of oddball board games and brain benders. I am 30 years old and the feeling of joy and wonder that you can only have by being a child returns as you walk in. This is a special place. The staff is knowledgeable, kind and helpful. The prices are fair to high... never low... but they make up for it in selection and customer service. You could get many of the things here cheaper online, but I am willing to pay a little more to get it today and deal with the fine folks at Hobby Town. Shop with confidence! read more

So, the wrestling belt has chipped paint. Don't ask.... We took the belt to HobbyTown and went and stood in the paint section and stared at about 20 million different colors in search of Dallas Cowboys' Blue. There's a customer service spot nearby with two people. I walked up and did my best sad-puppy face and they guy came over to help us. I swear he opened up every shade of blue before pronouncing one of them the best match. He was spot on. He also showed us which brushes would work best. I'd previously given this place a three star review noting that the staffing help was not too good. I have to revisit this as I have noticed that the new crew working there are helpful and eager to work out whatever problems you might have. Brent is back and he is genuinely enthusiastic and knowledgeable when it comes to RC flying. If he doesn't know the answer, he will spend time trying to figure it out for you. There is a sad trend in losing local hobby shops. While you may be able to get a supply or a kit online, the personal aspect of the hobby slides when you do not have access to someone else to give you a second set of eyes on an issue. I went into this shop last weekend with my daughter, who happens to have a medical condition that has left her with no hair. As we walked toward the section we needed, an employee interrupted his conversation with another customer to shout out to us, "Nice haircut!" We didn't want to be rude, so we just nodded and continued on. But that level of embarrassment wasn't enough for the employee, I believe his name is Johnny. NO, he had to come over and begin talking to us again about my daughter's "haircut." He ignored our signals that we didn't want to discuss it with him. My daughter was embarrassed and I was upset--for all he knew, she was in the midst of chemo treatments and fighting for her life. Despite that (fortunately) not being the case, he didn't know that and it's not his place to comment on customer's personal appearances. He was loud and his inappropriate comments drew unnecessary attention to her appearance. It made us so uncomfortable that we left about a minute later. I don't plan to patronize this business again. Not a friendly environment for two women who expect to be treated like valued customers. read more

Overpriced. Unprofessional. Bought a drone from them for a Christmas present. Realized it wasn't a good idea so I returned it to the tune of very unprofessional conduct of employees. This is the reason why shops like this don't make it. I tried to give business to my local store, but will stick to Amazon. I am near this location at work. Have not been since the move and I must say I was impressed. One thing I miss when I go to most hobby shops is the level of excitement the people working there have toward the hobby. Usually everyone is crusty about work. It was nice to bring in my old modified traxxas and have the guys behind the counter get excited about what I was trying to do and not make me feel like I was bothering them. Returned and a 12 year old kid was working the counter and just told me to by another rc truck because mine sucked after $110 repair. Let with them again to fix, 3 weeks and still no call!!! These guys know their stuff. I buy quite a bit of radio controlled parts, batteries, etc here and they rarely don't have what I need. The RC expert Alex is one of their best employees. He knows pretty much everything and is super friendly. The other guys are great too and always answer my questions. My wife went in to buy me my surprise Christmas present (a Traxxas Summit) and was treated very well, which I appreciate, since she doesn't know a ton about the hobby. When I told them I wanted to solder it back together but I was worried about messing up they offered to do it for me. Not only did they fix it (for free), they also explained to me how to do it. Non-competitive pricing, uninterested customer service, and a poorly stocked store make this one of the least useful hobby stores in the D/FW Metroplex. I shouldn't be able to find a bigger and cheaper selection of hobby knives at Michael's, for example. Their model kits are often 10-15% more expensive than their competitors for no apparent reason other than to fuel their customer-less airsoft section in the back of the store. Repeated attempts to find specialty hobby parts such as bits for a pin vise (without having to buy a whole new pin vise), specific shapes of plasticard, a individual tools are always met with 'well, it'll be restocked in a week' instead of an offer to specifically order it to guarantee its availability. And again, the prices are not competitive, easily exceeding anything a 'big box' store might ask for the product (Dremel bits were $12 at HobbyTown and I found comparable sizes at Home Depot for under $4 for the same number of bits - from the same manufacturer). But I can buy airsoft stuff! Boy can I. It's all in stock, all the time. If you're an airsoft enthusiast (and not much else), this is probably the place for you. If you're a modeler of any sort (from railroad to historicals), then this store is about as useful as the half finished railroad display they have in the back. I will not be returning to this store. You'll be better served ordering your hobby tools directly off of Amazon.com or any number of hobby related websites. read more

As a child, I spent a great deal of time building model aircrafts with my father. While looking for a new hobby to try and help pass some spare time, I decided to try building models again. After a quick Yelp search I came across HobbyTown. With a vast selection of models, rockets, and R/C vehicles they cater to many different types of hobbyists. I tend to spend most of my time in the model section where they have everything from new kits to vintage kits acquired through estates. One of the best experiences I've had here was after purchasing one such vintage kit. After completing 1/3rd of the plane I discovered the kit was missing a number of pieces. Being vintage it wasn't something that could be easily replaced. The staff was friendly and offered me a full exchange as well as additional store credit to compensate for the time spent working on the kit. Need a semi automatic air rifle? Fake poop or a whoopie cushion?? What about a kite or a model car, truck or train? A chemistry set for kids? You got it...bring your children here and set them free!! My girlfriend and I came here to get a kite for the Wind Festival this weekend. Upon entering we quickly discovered that this place is a wonderland for kids, AND adults of all ages! The kids section is massive with all kinds of science experiments, growing your own praying mantis kits, whatever!!!
