Business is very rigid with payment rules around online ordering. You can order something but they have zero ability to accept payment online. And they don't accept payment over phone. Brought in a valid gift card but the cashier said it wasn't working when he swiped it. Called the number on the card while at the cashier and confirmed the gift card was valid. Cashier still insisted the card didn't work. Asked him to type in the gift card number instead of swiping it and he said he couldn't do that. Since when??? It took me 30 minutes to drive to that store and it's the closest one to me so I wasted over an hour of my time and gas for nothing. Do better! read more

I'm a really big fan of aviation and I really think the store has what I need for my collection after all staff are really nice and helpful. I basically come here almost every time I get my paycheck and end up spending hundreds of dollars but it's worth it if you're a fan of airplane and airliners the store is worth it read more

I have been to other Hobbytowns for model kits and tools in the DFW: Mockingbird, Lewisville, and Rockwall. All of them have reasonable prices and if not, they are willing to price-match the item of interest. This is the ONLY Hobbytown (Plano) that has neither of those. For example, the mark-ups on airbrushes are fucking ridiculous: almost $100 (somewhere around the high 90s) for an Iwata Neo CN! Hobby Lobby sells this for $65 and Amazon sells it for $70. Now this would be forgivable if they were willing to price match, but remember: THEY ARE NOT. They want every single penny. Same situation applies for their gunpla selection. Each kit is marked up by at least somewhere around $10. They can only get away with this because of unsuspecting customers that don't do their research. Please, do yourself a favor and drive a little further to the other hobbytowns in DFW or buy online until these greedy fucks clean up their act. read more

This place was awesome. Mikey needed some kind of specific glue, and this place had it. Of course it's full of every hobby known to man. They have a LOT of radio controlled cars and airplanes, even helicopters! Mike used to fly radio controlled planes, so we drooled over some of the really fancy ones. The HobbyTown in Plano is a stellar outfit. They moved locations a few times, but the new place on 75 is stacked to the roof and huge! Tom back in the RC department is an absolute godsend for hobbyist like me. Pete is the owner and is always available to give advice and show you around, so you can find all the new toys and the things you're looking for. Never ever shop here under any circumstances. I purchased a glow start which was faulty and did not function properly. I drove all the way back with receipt and original packaging to return the item. If I managed my business similar to the business model utilized by the Hobbytown in Plano, Texas I'd be out of a business shortly. I'd post a zero if it was an option. I bought my fourth $550.00 Blade Fusion heli yesterday at this location and it turned out that the unit has a defective speed controller I uncovered this morning. I tried to return the heli for an exchange, however I was denied the transaction since I didn't bring MY OWN DX6e transmitter or MY OWN battery which were not purchased from here. It's a Hobby store packed with radios and batteries! yet the staff wouldn't bother. I left several messages for the store manager Pete Zelner with no responce to date. It's not about the money, it's the principal of the matter. I'm just going to accept the loss but never shop at a Hobbytown again. We drove 45 minutes to this place and were treated very rudely by the man working there. He acted as though we were a bother to him. His responses were short and he was of absolutely no assistance. We noticed he had no interest in assisting us but was extremely pleasant with the Caucasian customers. We will never spend a dime in this place. read more

An employee successfully helped me find glue capable of laminating card stock paper without causing wrinkles--a task with few good solutions. The employee also took time to explain some features and uses of air brushes, although I said upfront I would not purchase any time soon. Another employee helped a different customer fix a broken wheel and tire on a model car. A relaxed and helpful atmosphere earns a new customer for Hobby Town Plano. read more

Went in on Black Friday to look around. That had a RC plane in stock that I wanted but noticed it was cheaper online. I asked if they price matched and he said only if it was the manufacturers website. I checked the manufacturers website and they had it on sale as well so I showed it to the associate. He seemed a little taken aback and walked over to his computer and started looking it up. He then told me he can see the manufacturers stock and they were backordered which means he doesnt have to price match but offered me 10 dollars off. That wasnt even close to the sale price so I told him I would just get it online and he said bye. Seemed like he went out of his way to deny the price match. Good shop with a lot of variety, this does come with the downside that if you are looking for a specific type of item, the selection can be pretty limited. Staff is friendly and helpful. I went in looking for a toy RC helicopter and wished for a better selection, but again the staff was helpful and I walked out with a good purchase. There's definitely a hard stock lean on the Ares brand (Hobbytowns in house brand) but that's not a bad thing as it is a solid quality brand. Also I was very interested in purchasing one of their floor models of an rc copter that was displayed above their register. It was an older model that they no longer stocked. They weren't willing to sell me that one, but they made sure I knew where I could order one before I left. read more

This is a hobbiest paradise. Yes...I made that word up. They've got a huge selection of plastic models, trains, RC cars and plains..just about everything you could want. Where they shine is their supplies..how can you build this stuff without them right? They've got every kind of glue imaginable. All their paint colors are diverse..plenty of brushes as well. Tools...they've got them. This is the place a serious model builder goes. They don't carry this stuff at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. The only mark off I'm giving them is the pricing on the model kits. These can be found $10-$40 cheaper anywhere else, depending on how you look at it. I look at it like this...I can my model cheaper somewhere else...but I'll come here to get supplies. Lower your prices a bit and the convienance feature kicks in. Also...stop moving this place!! You were are Parker/Independance...then Park/Tollway...now you're here! What a bad experience!! The employees skate away so that they don't have to help you! There was a 300 lb customer that left the cashier station to fetch some candy bars...like he really needed them! So, I placed my single $4 item on the register counter along with a $5 bill. The cashier was totally lost as to what to do...wait for the candy pig...or just cash me out so quickly and easily. I let the poor guy waddle back and finally finish his transaction after he insulted my age. This is just a bad store...there are much better hobby stores in the area. read more

Sent my son to pick up an item for resale at the Plano store and they would not accept my valid tax ID certificate, even though all the other locations do and have. I argued with the guy for 20 minutes explaining to him what a tax Id certificate was for. He said he looked it up and it wasn't valid, which was false. I then sent him an email with the correct link showing the Id was valid and after a 30 min. debate finally used it. I will be calling the state comptroller about this issue. No issue with any other stores but this one. read more

They carry a large amount on model train items. I went there looking for some unusual HO scale track sections (1.5, 2.0, 3.0 inches long) and they had them in stock along with a large selection of rolling stock, engines and scenery kits. I ended buying more than I came for mostly because 1) they had the materials in stock and 2) the prices were fair and reasonable. I looked as long as I wanted and no one came by to hassle me. Had I needed any help I could have walked to the counter. When I checked out there was one person ahead of me and the man behind the counter took care of him and checked me out. I commented I was pleased to find a Piggly Wiggly HO scale truck. I said I lived in the south and often visited Piggly Wiggly with my parents. We started trying to remember what happened to this chain but decided we needed to do some research to be sure. Then the cashier brought his great memories of visiting Stucky's stores along the interstate highway as a child. I said, well, me, too; that my family loved stopping at Stucky's. All in all, it was a great visit to HobbyTown. I plan to go back for some scenery kits in the near future. read more

As it's December 23rd, I thought they might open before 10. When I arrived at 9:30, an employee was outside taking mdse. to another store. I merely asked if they carried a particular item. He didn't know and caught the attention of another employee inside. That person came out and said; "We don't open until 10". I guess their business is so good they can't even answer a quick question. When I asked the first employee where their corporate office was located, he said, "this is it, and that's the owner", referring to the second employee. Stay away! read more

I have been in here a few times, trying to give the store a chance, especially with the large selection that many people into RC hobbies know only comes at Hobby Town. But this store needs to re-work its staff. I have been out of the hobby for a while and was looking at getting back into it. I had some questions about computerized remotes and was legitimately LAUGHED AT for having little knowledge of them. I came in on another occasion looking for paint for hard plastic bodies (non-lexan). I was asked multiple times what I was painting, gave examples of what I wanted, and was still lead to the lexan body paints. I need to go elsewhere to find knowledgable staff, apparently. Not to mention the prices are not competitive with smaller RC ships, which are plentiful in the metroplex. Just not a good idea. read more

Went into this hobbytown on 3/28/16 to buy some paint seeing as they are the only ones who have Mr color in dfw. They had a model kit I had been wanting there but for $80 something. I asked if they would price match seeing as the Dallas and Lewisville stores are very good about that. The lady working the register said no we do not price match. I asked what about to another Hobbytown and said they had the Model Kit I wanted for $45. She told me to just go there then. (wtf?!?!) So I put the kit back while she rang up my paint. I told her I was part of the Texas Gundam Club and she said it only apply s to Gundam Kits and only to one per purchase. Lewisville/Dallas Does the discount to anything that can be related to Gundam Kits. Kits, Paint, Tools, ETC. When i told her that again she told me to just go there. So then I told her I was Also part of IPMS. She accused me of lying. I get there franchised and Owned by different people but that's not excuse to be so rude long story short there prices suck Rude and Idiots only reason they probably have any model customers is because there lucky enough to have a supply of Mr. Color paints read more
