Kid K needed a few art supplies (and a thimble, which I'm sure they had but which we completely forgot about till we got home.) They had what she needed/wanted, and though one item was expensive the clerk who helped us find it pointed out that they had a "30% off one item" coupon going on. So, reasonably priced. He was super patient and helpful, though he had to field a phone call during our excursion. Other staff were very friendly and welcoming. Only downside is the selection seemed a bit thin compared to other locations? Maybe just for the items we were looking for. Fantastic selection and service at this Michael's location! I came in looking for two picture frames to house posters for my brother-in-law. This store is big! And upon first walking in, I asked an employee where I might find their selection of frames. She kindly directed me to the back, where I was promptly assisted by an employee specializing in frames. She measured the two posters that I had brought along, provided me with the dimensions, and directed me to both budget and nicer options that'd fit. Checkout was friendly and a breeze. This rating is for Michaels the corporate entity and not any individual store. I started doing watercolor painting about a year ago. Last week I discovered that Mixhaels offers online watercolor instruction free of charge. Thus far I have viewed three course offerings and all have been informative and helpful toward my goal of becoming a better painter. Sure, they are promoting the company's products that they sell, hoping these videos will boost sales. But so what? Although I do buy some of my art supplies from Michaels I also shop from other sellers. Tomorrow I'm picking up some paint and a brush via curbside delivery. I think this Michael's deserves the 4 stars because at first I was very hesitant to go into a Michael's after someone I know openly bashed them on their facebook page for what I was going for today, framing a ketubah. Well, I can say my experience was very different from hers, not only did I get an impressive frame for my ketubah (Jewish marriage document), I also had quality service from the framing department. I was very impressed with their suggestions and I cannot wait to pick up my beautiful ketubah with the frame I picked for it. Michael's operates in the realm of 99% victory when it comes down to quirky product needs, holiday decorations, craft good and the rest. I've purchased long, twisty stems to compliment home plants. Ink stamps that embellish handwritten note cards you mail. Christmas lights, wrapping paper, and pine scent hangy things. Michael's isn't always the best source if someone has a very specific need but it (Michael's) has most everything you can think of for sprucing things up. I likey Mikey's! read more

I've been here a few times - mainly being sent on errands by other people. For the love of Buddha, I feel out of place. The old ladies change aisles, and no worker approaches me. Am I that terrifying? I mean, I shaved, I'm wearing cologne and everything! *sigh* But that's for another time. They're organized. I mean, I love to draw - pen and ink is my thing - but arts and crafts? Not so much. I'm more of a hammer-nail person and not a "scrap book" person. I tried once. Failed horribly. But walking in here, and walking down the aisle, I found the frames I was looking for right away. In and out in ten minutes (mainly because I wanted to be sure there weren't other frames hidden). I like Michaels. Don't go here expecting any kind of guidance. Know what you want or be prepared to look for it yourself. I remember asking a staff member for some pre-sketched canvas and he treated me like I was an idiot and insisted that nothing of the kind existed (not just in the store but in life). Shortly after, I found what I was looking for... Besides that, I find the selection impressive. When I wanted to start painting, this was the first place I went to and I like their selection of goods. They have a lot of what you need for painting, crafting, candle making, flower displaying, soap making, drawing, picture displaying, child entertaining and much much more-- it's craziness. Further, they offer coupons often (you can get them on your receipt or through the MIchael phone app) and many of them are a whopping 40% off. So if you're a savvy shopper and don't need much assistance, Michael's might be the place for you. read more

Michael's is great for some things, and well, not great at all for others. Things Michael's does well: Paint, surprisingly! Michael's actually stocks professional watercolors, acrylics, oils, brushes, paper, boards and canvas. Unless you need something unusual or extremely specific, there's really no need to go to an out of the way specialty shop. I did a watercolor as a gift a few years ago, and everything I used came from Michael's. Beading. Have you seen the beading and jewelery department in this place? Criminy! It's ridiculous. I once spent a full hour walking the same three aisles over and over again looking for beads, and still probably didn't look at everything. You're not going to find anything terribly valuable or unique here, but if it's mass-produced, they've got it. Kids' craft supplies. Michael's has every sort of craft supply you could ever want for your kiddos. Pipe cleaners, markers, crayons, stamps, foam shapes, lanyards, clay, DIY kits--you name it. Baking accessories. Ever want a cake pan shaped like Ariel from the Little Mermaid? Michael's knows that deep down in your heart, you do, and so they've stocked those for you, along with tons of other specialty and professional baking supplies. Wanna know my favorite? It's the edible glitter! Everything in life should come with edible glitter. Yarn. While there are much better (and more exciting) places to buy yarn in Columbus, if you don't need anything fancy, Michael's has a whole wall of yarn, and usually keeps knit or crocheted squares of each different variety, so you can feel what it's like. This is where Michael's could stand to improve...a lot... Fabric. There is almost no fabric in this entire store. You can find felt, and sometimes some pre-packaged fabric squares, but other than that, there's zip, nada, nothing. Along with the fabric shortage, there's also almost nothing by way of sewing supplies. A few needles, a couple pairs of scissors, and a pin-cushion or two. It's really just bare bones, and good luck finding more than one brand or variety of anything sewing-related. Embroidery floss and supplies. While Michael's does have an aisle with needlecraft products, the embroidery floss selection is continually disappointing. I think they must not get very many deliveries of this stuff, because every time I come in to buy some, the floss wall looks totally ravaged. Colors are often mixed up (which is a problem when you have several colors that are almost identical but not quite) and they're often out of the shades I need. Also, they don't have much by way of embroidery project ideas. My suggestion is to go to JoAnn's for anything needlecraft or sewing-related. They're a fabric store, so there's tons of fabric (obviously) and they have a much better selection of embroidery flosses, projects, iron-ons, and blanks. read more

I recently used the custom framing services here for the first time, so I wanted to add that experience to my review. It was wonderful! The employee who assisted me was very patient and thoroughly explained my options and provided suggestions. They use a webcam and imaging software to show you on a computer how different frames and mats might look with your picture - it was very helpful. The finished product was completed four days earlier than anticipated, and pick up was fast and easy. I was shown the final product on the spot. It came out wonderfully. What I love about Michaels is that they had the paper I needed! They have a very good craft paper selection (but priced higher than Hobby Lobby) a great framing department, they don't overwhelm you at the door with their silk flower collection, their open on Sunday, and they have classes. I do enjoy poking about in their $1 baskets in front. Have gotten many a note pad from that bin. They don't have a fabric department, their ribbon section seems more dedicated to holiday ribbons, their sales though often aren't as good as HL, and sometimes finding someone to help me took a bit of hunting down. read more

This is the Michaels that I go to about once every other week or thereabouts, mainly because of the location. It's close to some of the other places I go to on a semi regular basis. Michael's has a little bit of everything(minus fabric, obviously) and I usually don't have a problem finding what I need. The weekly sales are good, as are their coupons. There is a constant overturn of merchandise here and thus the clearance selection is always good too. read more

This is a very clean and nicely organized Michaels. I've been in some that are truly a hot mess, but this is not one of them. The staff I met were friendly and helpful. Website stated this particular location opened at 9:90 am on Sundays. I waited until after 9 and checked again and it stated it was open now. Drove the 20 minutes to the store to find out it didn't open until 10:00 am. Products/services aren't worth waiting around so had to drive further and pay more for simple frames.
