Great customer service! and they have coupons, cool. I recently bought a mat and frame for a print I bought at a local art show. It was a European looking watercolor. It was very detailed, so I wanted my frame and mat to be pretty basic. I was brought probably 20 different options, with no hesitation. They are quite willing to help and totally understand the decision process of a novice art collector. With my 25% off coupon I found in the Tri-Village Quarterly Magazine, the total for glass, double mat and frame was about $250. Eek, kind of steep, but I knew to expect that with a custom frame. As I waited for some final details, I shopped around and found another really cool print. It looks like Greek sods swimming. Hey, I was a swimmer and had been to Greece, it worked for me. It was a small print, 8 1/2 x 11, I think. It was probably $5.00, so I bought it. It's hanging in my living room. I pretty much love it....actually a little more so than the $250 frame job I got. Oh well. When the economy turns around, I'll totally go back the the Framing Center to have it redone.

I visited this store briefly when I was in the area. The framed photos in the window caught my eye, so I decided to walk in and see what else they offered. I was promptly greeted by a friendly lady who offered to help. I just wanted to look around and take pictures for Yelp and she did not mind at all. They have a huge selection of frames that can be assembled to fit various picture sizes. They have prints that can be purchased without a frame and prints that are already framed. This is a great place to find nice prints or if you need something customized, I am confident this place could meet your needs.

Art is after all, greatened or lessened with the benefit of a proper framing. Get it wrong, and an otherwise fantastic work can be seriously diminished. Get the framing correct and it will serve to magnify & compliment the framed object. The frame station staff seem to understand these basic concepts and work diligently to apply them in their products.

I took it to FS and told them I just needed glass for the frame. The man working referred me to "a guy" who repairs artwork. There was a binder of his work. I said okay, I will try him first. I called and he gave me his address as he works out of his home in Clintonville. It turned out he only scans pieces (and not as large as what I had), not repairs them. He referred me to a shop off Kenny. I went there (the shop off Kenny) and was told they could repair my large portrait, and I also showed them a small photo I had that was stuck to the glass in the frame. Several weeks and $125 later I got both pieces back, unrepaired, and was emailed the scanned copies. This is all sidebar, because I am not reviewing that shop. I did not complain to the owner so it is not fair to write a bad review. I do appreciate the scanned photo that apparently could not be repaired (they didn't try to remove it from the glass), but I didn't need the scanned great-grandmother photo. Anyway. I took my large piece back to FS and a woman was working. She tried to refer me to "the guy" again but I said no. She then advised she could use a special art marker on the minor tears. I said yes. A week later I had my beautifully repaired and glassed in frame for around $30. It was perfect. I wish this woman had been working to begin with because she knew how to repair my piece. Let this be a warning to anyone being referred to a guy who just scans. I will definitely use this shop again.

Pennington Custom Art Serv - there is glare but that was my choice, I wanted plexiglass not glass due to weight restrictions on my plaster walls

Pennington's is fantastic. Val is so knowledgeable and really knows what he's doing. There is a fantastic selection of frames and mats, and Val advised me along the way until I made my final decision. In less than two weeks my picture was ready, and it was stunning. As an art lover/collector I was blown away and stunned when I saw how beautiful his work was. Truly professional job and beautiful. There was a signature on the back of the piece and Val fashioned a plexiglass cutout so it could be seen when turned over. This was just what I wanted. I have had so many framings done that just underwhelmed me--not here. I will return, and I already have a project to take to Val when I get time. There is also a cool selection of art at the store to browse. I really enjoyed browsing and chatting about art with someone who knows that they're talking about. You won't get this at chain stores. Pricing here is commensurate with the quality of the finished product and expertise of the shop owner, and you get what you pay for--stunning results.

As the previous reviewer mentioned, he has a good eye for what color of matboard and color/material/profile of frame will best set off your work. I particularly like the frame profiles that he has custom made by a local woodworker in Clintonville; in addition to supporting someone local, you can get profiles like cherry and fumed oak that you don't find at mass market framing places. Val can also do conservation work on paper, which means he can remove toning and foxing from aged pieces. Agreeing again with Michael G., Val's prices are very competitive. Plus he gives repeat customers a 10% discount. It's always a pleasure to bring in a piece for him to frame; a couple times, his suggestions were particularly inspired, and the framed work I took home felt like an entirely new work of art. I wouldn't use anyone else in town.
