Quite possibly my worst dining experience ever. Went in on a Sunday morning. Was seated immediately and that's the last positive moment of this entire review. Took over an hour to get food. Then the order was incorrect. Instead of being accommodating our waitress Denise was combatitive insisting she "told the kitchen". I truly don't care whose fault it was, just correct the problem. Upon delivering the check with no adjustment or any compensation Denise again made it a point to show "look, I entered it correctly. The kitchen messed up". Completely unprofessional and she is the main reason I'll never return. Kitchen tried their hardest and was overwhelmed. She deserves to be unemployed without compensation. One drink refill within an hour and a half as well as being a combatitive bitch. Will NEVER return. read more

This place would have gotten 5 stars if not for one thing. I went to the mens room and noticed the stall had no toilet paper. As i was doing my thing at the urinal another person walked in and went to the stall to do what u do in there. Well there was no tp.. Back at my table i see the other person was a member of the kitchen staff YUCK.... You work there check the toilet paper. This is definitely my favorite Breakfast place in all NEO. This is not a greasy spoon. The food is consistently fresh and NO GREASE. I think I'm a bit of a foodie as I'm super fussy and picky about my food, the quality, freshness and cleanliness. I've been here a lot but This time I wasn't that hungry. I had their homemade sourdough with avocado. Plus their eggs are ORGANIC! I guess that's why they tasted so good. I got their kona coffee. Thank you iPhone because I LOVE this place. It's on the smaller side tucked into a random shopping center in The Valley. When we first went I thought it would smell of booze and cigarettes from the hard parties the night before but no, very much the opposite. There has always been a wait on the weekends but so worth it. The service is awesome and the food even better! The eggs benedict is my favorite and they have awesome hashbrowns. WIN, WIN, WIN! Edit: --------- As promised Michael's has improved their selection of organic and local foods (Duma's for meat for example). They are making food from scratch (bake bread/pastries/muffins) here with a focused menu. Really impressed to see the changes. The interior still looks like your grandmothers house but they are doing an expansion of the restaurant - construction is started - maybe we will see a refresh of the interior. I got to speak to the kitchen manager and with the expansion they are going to have a larger kitchen and he is going to keep improving their offerings. Give the place a try and let me know what you think. ---------- I still give Michales AM four stars but they now have new ownership and are making improvements. If you are one of the regulars everything you like about the place is still there so don't worry. I spoke to the kitchen manager/head cook (he does not go by chef) when I was there yesterday and he shared what is coming with the ownership change. The goal is made on premise, local if possible and fresh. They now run specials Monday thru Friday and not just something from the regular menu. Something they made special for that day. They are using up the pre made salad dressings and are making their own. Also fresh baked bread (not dough bought and baked on-site) but bread they make themselves. The head cook tells me more of the same will be coming in the months ahead. If you liked this place before you still will...if you haven't been in awhile I recommend stopping in and trying the new. We've dined here several times past few years and always good. Not sure if it was the new or the old ownership when we went a month or so ago but it was really good. Best Greek omelet I've had in Akron, ahead of Akron Family and Farmer Boy. Generous portion filled w lots of spinach and feta. Good coffee and pancakes and everything else was good. I flat-out hated this place. First of all, the noise decibel was horrible. Bad, bad, bad acoustics. If I wanted to go to a club for brunch, I would have. TOO loud. I have lived in this area of Akron for a few years and honestly have yet to find a really tasty diner for breakfast. I have had bad experiences at almost every diner in this direct area either with nasty staff or nasty food and I have to say that I was super impressed with everything at Michaels AM. They were accommodating to my dietary restrictions and had a great selection of breakfast food. Our waitress was very sweet as well as the hostess who sat us and everyone else we came into contact with here. I had a ham and cheese omelet. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. We will start with the pros: The prices were reasonable, the service was friendly, there was no wait on a Sunday morning, the establishment was clean, and the vegetable omelet was a solid choice. The cons: The restaurant was incredibly dated, the sign on the outside makes it look like a dentist's office, the coffee was too watery, my girlfriend was the youngest customer by approximately 40 years, and while the omelet was a solid choice it was nothing to brag about either. My wife and I waited over 45 minutes for our breakfast (maybe they were getting the eggs from the chicken coop), only to have the waitress explain that they were "really busy"--but somehow they managed to turn over at least four other tables. Realizing she'd been caught in a lie (we saw our waitress hand our ticket to the kitchen after we asked about the wait), the waitress didn't even have the courtesy to deliver our food or apologize for her mistake. Everyone messes up, but apologizing goes a long way toward fixing things, definitely better than hiding and lying. And, the manager was also unwilling to admit a mistake, apologize, or credit our bill more than $1. If the food had been anything better than mediocre, I'd have been willing to give them a second chance. But it wasn't, and I'm not going to. read more

We have been going to Michael's AM for over 25 years, but things have changed in the last year, year and a half. Today our plates were beige, nothing quite cooked properly. Toast was barely toasted, so it was soft from the butter and the hash browns were barely browned and the potatoes still had a bite to them, not cooked through. The hash browns were always my favorite. Michael's AM was always are go to breakfast spot, we were willing to pay because of the consistent quality of the food. The prices keep going up and the consistency just isn't there. We now go perhaps once month or less, because of the price. After todays experience, it may be even less. Was really excited to try this restaurant when I saw they offer a gluten free French toast. Went in to find out they just "didn't have any today." Okay fine. I order an omelet but can't eat the toast or hash browns, waitress says I can substitute them for a fruit cup. Somehow a tiny cup of fruit is a $1.40 upcharge in place of toast AND frozen hash browns. Food comes out for my boyfriend and me and it's just okay. Wasn't blown away with the food, service could have been much better, and think that the food is WAY overpriced for what you're getting. (Did you know they charge you more if you're getting take out?) All of that could have been forgiven, but worst of all... later that day my boyfriend and I both got terribly sick with the same symptoms, the only thing we both ate were the eggs from here. This place is okay. Decent service. I got the country skillet with bacon, which was okay, but just too much bacon. I know you maybe thinking that there's no such thing, but the bacon just overwhelmed the eggs and has brown at the bottom. Their house coffee isn't very good either; it's on the burnt side of life. However, they did have a special pecan coffee, which wasn't too bad. The bakery items looked good, but after being disappointed by the breakfast, I wasn't in the mood to spend some more in hopes to salvage the not so great feeling that the food left in my stomach. So, this is my favorite breakfast place, and I LIVE for breakfast! My personal favorite has got to be the eggs Benedict. If you have never had it before, I sincerely don't suggest trying it anywhere else first, they are the only place I have found that makes the hollandaise properly! Every once in a while, I'll splurge and eat the crab cake Benedict, it's pretty delicious as well! Yes, you have to add a little pepper to the potatoes, but when everything is cooked perfectly, why complain about needing to add salt and pepper to taste?!? They always cook the eggs to perfection, from omelets to poached eggs (yes, I know most people don't get poached eggs), and even my husband who likes sunny side up gets his right! Where else can a six person family go, get six different things for breakfast, and everything comes out perfectly done?!? Had the worst breakfast experience here recently. We arrived and were told there'd be a 10-20 minute wait. There were at least 10 other people waiting but there were several empty tables, so we thought no big deal. After 15 minutes or so, no one appeared to have been sat and there were more open tables. I asked one of the two hostesses if they were going to start seating people. She told me we'd have to wait at least as long as a table, so not yet. People started leaving so my husband was saying let's wait. We got sat about 10 minutes later. As we did, I saw one guy go up to the cash station and say he wanted to pay for his drinks, that he wasn't waiting anymore. We finally had a waitress come take out order and then we waited and waited and waited for our food. There were murmurings that the kitchen was short staffed and that seemed apparent because all of the wait staff was just standing and staring at the kitchen window. I wanted to leave but my husband wasn't hearing it. Needless to say, the food eventually showed up and our waitress was very kind about it. But there wasn't a manager in sight and no wait staff or hostess was stepping up to deal with the situation. So even though we have enjoyed Michaels food in the past, we will not return. read more
