I feel terrible for taking so long to write this (2.5 years, to be exact), but I was always so paranoid about someone finding out that I'd done it that I just put mentioning it on the interwebs on the backburner for a while. That said, I had a labiaplasty in December 2012, and it was truly a game-changer for me. I researched for YEARS online- getting your lady bits snipped is serious business. Choose the wrong doctor and you could wind up disfigured, infected, or, worst of all, with loss of sensation. I know this sounds weird, but it was when I saw Dr. Goodman's face on his website that I knew I could trust him. He also came with great reviews, posted unretouched pictures of his work, and he has tons of experience, great educational and professional credentials, and a patient, educated, professional staff who answered my myriad questions. So many of the sites I visited for labiaplasty doctors seemed shady at worst and "slick," in the worst possible way, at best, all gelled-back hair and fake teeth and upselling of "packages." Dr. Goodman was just incredibly kind, understood that I ONLY wanted labiaplasty (not anything else) and at that, only a SMALL bit taken off my labia, not for medical reasons, not for discomfort, but simply because they had caused me severe embarrassment, anxiety, and disgust since they appeared during the 4th grade. I had a hard time getting intimate with people, and was always afraid the boys who saw me naked would tell everyone my "secret." To be fair, as I've gotten older, I've realized boys actually don't give a shit what your vagina looks like- they're just trying to get inside it- but *I* didn't like the way I looked, and that was damaging... So I took my credit card and flew by myself to California and got it taken care of, and I've never looked back. Dr. Goodman was sweet, patient, and comforting, and his staff was PHENOMENAL. The surgery was quick and pretty painless, and after it (I had gotten a hotel for 2 nights in the area), one of his nurses (Lisa- I'll never forget her) DROVE ME in her personal car from his office to the hotel, with a stop at a store in between b/c I was still messed up from the small amount of anesthesia they give you and I was craving snacks haha. How cool is that?! A doctor's office where they actually take care of you... My PCP doesn't take that good, personal care of me, for heaven's sake, so it's ironic (to me, anyways) that a plastic surgeon who I'll see once (maybe twice!) would be so good to his patients, but it's a testimony to how awesome his office is. Anyways, I flew home two days after surgery and experienced some swelling and bruising for the first few weeks... And then it went away. And now, no one but me can tell anything was done- I've moved cross-country since the surgery and have had 4 different gynos, and not one has ever been able to tell, even when I prompt them! To be honest, over the last year or so, I can see that they're getting a little bit longer again- it just happens with age and sex and childbirth and all that- but they're still much smaller than they used to be, and frankly, if he's still practicing after I'm done having children, I'll probably pay him a visit. Thank you, Dr. Goodman, and I'm sorry this is so overdue! read more
