I hired Michael for some clearance trimming of a large cypress tree by my townhome. He came by for an inspection and had plenty of knowledge to impart on the tree species and condition. The trimming work was done quickly and efficiently. They deftly lowered large limbs on ropes to avoid any damage to the fence or nearby structures. Michael has a very informal style, operating more on a handshake agreement and cash/check payment than the formal agreements and invoices you'd get with other firms. I was happy with the work and price they charged, but if you want a very polished, by-the-book service experience you might not jive with his style. read more

Agreed with my neighbors to have middle trees cut down preventatively. He removed over 40% of my tree without permission due to his own beliefs as a non - contractor about the proximity to the roof of a shed, which is against ISA standards. After which, he then demanded $600 cash which was the price my neighbors and I had discussed for the CORRECT and AUTHORIZED trees, then went to derstroy a different tree he decided was too close to my shed. Work was not only UNAUTHORIZED but will cost 2-5 thousand to remove and plant a new tree. I never asked for any work to be done on this tree. He removed my backyard privacy, to which he responded with only stating he "trimmed it"... Horrible experience. The tree will likely die now from having so much removed, and will not grow back. Again-- I did not authorize the work. He showed up trying to remove a "dead tree" that I pointed out multiple times was NOT on my property. Rare beautiful tree scheduled to be TRIMMED not LIMBED in 2 weeks by my regular landscaper. Assumed I was a "young dumb blonde that they could extort $600 from". Hung up the phone after trying to convince me I did not know what I was talking about, when I had my own certified Arborist who has already written a report listening. This company prioritizes profit over everything. The trees they were authorized to "TRIM" are now leaning on the neighbors garage.... Photos showing before and after so no one else goes through this. This was one of the most unprofessional interactions I have ever had, with any service, in my entire life. I did not hire Michael directly -- my neighbor hired him, asking my permission trim one of my trees on the property border, since it was impeding the growth of one of theirs. They said they would cover the cost in full. Being neighborly, I said this was perfectly fine and I was happy to either cover the cost or split it if they just wanted me to send the final amount from their total bill from Michael. I also met with Michael and he explained what he would do with my tree, which I was fine with and gave permission to do so. Yesterday, I receive a voicemail that he is going to be onsite trimming the tree today. Given that I did not hire him directly, I think nothing of it. Today, stepping outside for errands, I run into Michael outside my house who intercepts me and rudely tells me I owe him $200. I am taken off guard as I have never discussed paying Michael directly, he has never sent me a quote of any service or any estimated price of services and all my communications with my neighbor indicate I am going to pay them directly for my specific tree. I explain I am fine with paying him directly but I need some sort of quote or email receipt before doing so in order to have a paper trail. At this point I am concerned he is going to charge each of us for the same tree, given that this man is a stranger and again, I did not hire him directly. Instead of offering to send me any sort of paper trail, Michael tells me that I need to talk to my neighbor directly to figure this out, and they are home right now. I knock on my neighbor's door to check quickly with them and am horrified to find that they are, in fact, in the midst of spending time with their dog as he is actively passing away. Michael sent me inside to bother them with this asinine situation (again, rather than offering to email me a quote) with full knowledge that this is what they were going through, which is one of the most bafflingly unempathetic things I've ever encountered. I tell them I am going to pay Michael directly for my tree, just to ensure they don't also pay for it, apologize profusely and leave. When I step back outside to understand the available payment methods, it is explained to me that he can only take checks. I politely say I will have to go to the bank, and how long will you be here? Michael then has the audacity to tell me that it is customary to have payment ready at time of services. Again, I did not enter a contract with him, I don't have a quote, I don't have a work order, I DID NOT SCHEDULE THIS EXACT DAY FOR HIS SERVICES. His son tells me I can pay via Venmo/Zelle for a fee. At this point I pay via Venmo (with exorbitant 5% fee) so I never have to talk to this man again. I am sure he is a perfectly knowledgable, skilled "tree surgeon", but based on my own experience, I would not recommend anyone hire his services due to extreme unprofessionalism. read more

Michael and his son, Robert, are true professionals. We have 14 trees on our property. I've pruned most of them in the past but it takes me forever. They were great. They quickly studied each tree, pruned the correct limbs and opened up each tree to its own magnificence. And the icing on the cake is that they cleaned up everything afterwards. Well, I suppose that's expected but if you've ever done your own pruning, cleaning up is the hardest part of the job. Michael removed two abused spruce trees from my viewscape. Michael was responsive to my original call and gave me a very reasonable bid. I so appreciate his professionalism and it is clear he is an expert arborist. He along with a helper removed the trees safely and cleanly. He kept me informed as he worked. I also appreciate that even though he anticipated the job taking one day as he got into the trees realized that the tree removal would be a multi day job. He honored his original bid and has done a meticulous and safe tree removal. I plan on hiring him this fall/winter to prune my two 60 year old Japanese maples. i was very pleased with the service I received from Michael. He and his son removed a huge and nasty holly tree from my yard and pruned a few other large trees. His price was fair and he talked to the neighbors on both sides of my house to explain how the trimming would impact them. He did a great job of clean-up and took everything to the dump. After my mother received a notice from the city that her street trees were out of compliance I called Michael because his knowledge, expertise, and passion for trees are legendary if you ask around a bit. As soon as we could get the neighbors to move their vehicles out from below, Michael did a great job pruning our elderly-but-much-loved trees. I called Michael Oxman, The Tree Dr, to come and assess some tree trimming needs. He contacted me later that day and came to provide an estimate the same afternoon. He took the time to explain what he suggested we do, and why, and it made a lot of sense. I agreed to hire him, and he completed the work three days later. Pretty quick! I'm happy with the result and the price was very fair and competitive. The work included clean up. I now have more light coming into my yard, better visibility and clearance for traffic where needed.
