Michael David Winery is a great place to enjoy some wine and even better with company. The first time I came here the wine was so good that we became wine club member shortly after. In the summertime the lawn area creates the perfect atmosphere for get togethers. I hosted a few birthday parts last year in the cabanas. The lawn area is a first come first serve basis, but you can reserve them through their website, you'll just have to spend their min reserve amount when you are there. They have a lot to offer in their yard from multiple waterfalls, a garden of flowers you can pick, and even a children area complete with farm animals. Michael David winery is a big name in the wine industry, I've seen their wines in restaurants multiple time outside the states. They really do have something for everyone, I'm a fan of their Earthquake Cabernet Sauvignon while my wife is a fan of their Symphony white wine. read more

I visited her during the week for a play date/mom day out. Now, I can't speak on their wine or food because I did not have the pleasure of trying any. But what the experienced outside was beautiful!! I was not expecting the garden area to be so large. The kids had a blast-the play area kept them all entertained for hours. Also the play area is COMPLETELY shaded. Now, I went inside to ask about wine for my sister, I know absolutely NOTHING wine or vineyards. My sister had requested a wine that was bottled in Napa, so I asked the at the counter if they carried anything and the lady was kinda of rude about it. She was also a bit condescending to me, like damn sorry I don't know how things works as far where things are bottled and what they offer. Come on, I'm sure I am not the 1st persons to come in there and not know a thing about wine! I just was really turned off by it. I did overall love the atmosphere. Overall experience was great. This winery is also family-friendly. Wine bar building was spacious with a beautiful design. Large, beautiful garden area with plenty of seating, water feature and even a children's area. If you are able to reserve a table outside, I would highly recommend as they get super busy, especially on the weekends with great weather. I would also suggest making a reservation for tastings, otherwise it's first come, first serve at checking-in and the wait depends on how many reps. are available. Did not order any food with our tasting. Affordable tasting fee of $10-$15, waived with purchase. Variety and quality of wines were great! We had Vanessa helping us and she was amazing and friendly! Located closer to the I5 side of Hwy 12. Plenty of parking, but may be difficult to pull out of the parking lot onto Hwy 12 depending on oncoming traffic going both directions. We were staying at my in-laws vacation home on the river about 20 minutes away. We decided to visit and while we didn't have reservations they said it would be a little wait. They then proceeded to ask if we were members and said "we are thinking about it". When we said that she got us in right away to a tasting. Although they knew we weren't committed we had excellent service from Heather and decided why not join even if we live over an hour away . The Place is beautiful (absolutely love their gardens/landscaping), wine and customer service are good. And bonus is the restaurant there. We came back two weeks later and had reserved a table by the water. Again waitress was excellent, sangria refreshing along with tasty wood fired pizzas and salad. The grounds are beautiful and sprawling with well shaded areas to sit and sip. Bocce ball courts, child play area, chicken coop viewing area and satellite restroom are all very welcoming. Event space is optimal and every view throughout the property is picturesque. Staff is well educated and tasting space is plentiful. Cafe food is fresh and special- service is always friendly and prompt. Retail space is well lit and stocked with both unique and trending items. Fresh produce area is bountiful with seasonal offerings and the flower farm has an amazing assortment of blooms. Wonderful place for couples, groups of any size and families alike. Updated: Not only is this place family friendly- but they are absolutely going the distance to provide a place for everyone to enjoy. The wine is good but you can get good wine all over Lodi. The outside area has a playground for kids, plenty of seating for families, 21 and over areas if you don't want to be around kids. Now they also have an outdoor bistro to get wood fire pizza and sandwiches at. It gets VERY busy but if you get there early you can relax where you want to. Beautiful grounds, and amazing cafe on site, this place is always a great stop in Lodi. The wine is good but you can get many of them at grocery stores now. I love stopping in for lunch and tasting but I avoid this place on weekends because it is so busy! read more

I've really tried to like this winery. I understand policy's and procedures especially during these times but there's a way to come across in a Professional manner. You will not get this here! I've been a wine member at many places for the last 20 years and have never experienced the feeling I get when I'm here. Any place that has nobody to wait on, nobody spending money, gladly takes walk-ins. Who do you think you are? You are in the service industry. Last I checked, that requires customers. You just lost at least 4 because of your piss-poor service. Literally stated they are waiting on people to show up who never confirmed or who were late. FILL YOUR SPOTS. Again, what's the point of being a wine club member, I can buy your wine at COSTCO! "We have 12,000 wine club members" who are you trying to impress? I don't see 12,000 members here. I just want to taste some wine at your empty bar. 2 stars for the wine. -5 for service. Get your priorities straight. -*UPDATE* Don't worry James, I just finished enjoying a full tasting flight and a glass from a winery less than 1 mile down the road that accommodated non-wine club members and were more than happy to take our business and our money. So sorry, not sorry that you have become too big for Local Lodi to accommodate people at your empty tasting room. Great location! Great overall experience! Wonderful service and beautiful grounds! 3 of us came for our first time and had a reservation for a tasting outdoors. Loved, loved, loved the gorgeous grounds and can't wait to come back in a warmer day to reserve a cabana. The restaurant/cafe was closing so we were only able to purchase a charcuterie board to have through the tasting and it was okay. Growing up in the area, Michael David has always been a consistent and enjoyable experience for a full day of wine tasting or even just a stop on a tour. The wine is great, grounds are gorgeous, and I love their seasonal experiences (specifically fall at MD!) I last went on 7/10/21 with a few friends for tasting and lunch and had a great time with our server (taster? Bartender? Not sure her official title but Janet was so sweet with our tasting!) decided to just go ahead and join the wine club because, why not?! I just returned home from a vacation to a handwritten note from Janet which I'm not sure if it's their policy or not but I love it! From the second we stepped off of our bus, we received the VIP treatment. Our tasting room helper James was so helpful and fun and greeted us right as we arrived. I had the opportunity to plan our company wine trip and this was the first location that was highly recommended to me so I was so happy they were able to host a group of our size (25 people). We prepaid for our large group which wasn't an issue and from the group consensus, Michael David was the very best of our wine tour, I wish we had scheduled even more time there! The tasting room that we used was outside which was perfect in the beautiful weather. The tasting was not rushed and was very informative. The best part was how much attention to detail they put into our tasting. Everything was specifically branded with our company name which was so cool. The whole experience was amazing including the wine (the Earthquake being my suggestion). Such a great place to keep social distance and have good food with great service! I've been here two times since the pandemic and I can say each time we've been treated so well! Make a reservation for a two hour limit which allows them to clean and sanitize table in between guests. Very limited contact, and everyone wearing masks with hand sanitizer all around the property. It's a beautiful winery, and I don't think a bad table in sight. The staff is super friendly and helpful and prices reasonable. This was our first stop for my sisters bachelorette party, before choosing our itinerary for the day of I looked at every place we wanted to visit online. This one looked beautiful. I tried making reservation online but didn't see an option online. When we arrived we told them they had a party of 13 and luckily they had a cancellation and booked us right in! Thanks James! They gave us the different option we could do (wine taste,$15/person or buy a bottle and pick a spot that doesn't have reserved on it) and said you need to call to reserve a spot for a large party so FYI! She elevated the whole experience. We really enjoyed hearing about the history of the winery and seeing their library room. Next, for a full tasting of all the great wine! I wasn't a big fan. The vino was not quite my style, and in the entry area and first tasting room the whole vibe was pretty tourtisty-and rush-rush-rush... Not exactly the relaxing wine-tasting experience we came all the way out here for. However, I get the idea that my first impressions may not have been super accurate (at least in terms of relaxing environment). After we tasted, we walked around the gardens outside, and they were spacious and grand and beautiful. The other tasting areas were nowhere near as crowded. Lots of groups of people seeming to celebrate stuff, around flowers and waterfalls and cool patio furniture. I think that maybe we just arrived at a really busy time, with a lot of drunk people in the same close space. So I'm not saying I wouldn't recommend it, or that I wouldn't try again. But I'm not rushing back. There are just too many other places to try in the meantime. read more

We have heard great things about this winery and their restaurant. We went there and had to put our name in to get a table for breakfast. We really wanted breakfast and the hostess told us that if we don't get a table by 1130 we will not get breakfast. We waited 20 minutes and literally got a text that our table was ready at 11:29 and they would not serve us breakfast. We were also ready to taste some wine and spend some money. It was our first time visiting this winery. We had reservations, and the tasting fee was prepaid. The wines were good, and we joined their wine club. Most disappointing was the service (lack of) that was provided. The tasting went great, and then signing up for the club took 30 minutes! I believe the pourers work off of commission. She became "busy" with a visitor and later told us the new club member ordered 4 cases of wine. Mind you the new club member was not inside the tasting room but at an outside bar. Apparently, this was more important than the 2 new wine club members who had reservations and bought 9 bottles. Management needs to consider more help or incorporate teamwork. This winery literally has everything! From a full on cafe "the Farm Cafe" with real food and not just a cheese plate. And two tasting rooms one in the main building where you enter, and has a informal big bar and you can do a full on tasting. At the cafe I got the Tri-Tip sandwich that was flavorful juicy and so delicious. Plus they have a gift shop, bakery and produce area with all sorts of goodies to grab for picnic or a party, I was excited they had my all time favorite Jalapeño and cheese bread it was so fresh so yummy. In the second building there was a much more elegant tasting room with a huge bar and was decorated with all sorts of amazingly beautiful bottles with the most unusual labels and names which are mesmerizing you'll see in my pictures. we had two of the sweetest people help us and we walked out of there with 6 bottles, 4 bottles of the old vine my absolute favorite smooth so smooth umm. And 2 Cabernet Franc for a friend she was crazy for it. After our wonderful tasting we wondered outside to the grounds with lots of big tables with umbrellas all over with a full on waterfall and pond they also have a pizza shack and you get to eat your pizza by the waterfall, ahhh....very nice we were there for nearly 2 hours exploring all they had to offer which was a lot. And on my way home we stoped by for a few more bottles. we loved every minute here and would come back in a second! And I'll bring my girls with me. I have to review the first winery I became a member of! Michael David is such a beautiful winery with AMAZING tasting wines! Top two so far are the scientific vine cinsaut and the carmenere (I may have spelled those wrong) we had called ahead to check if they were busy, they said that they were little more than usual but we attempted anyways and so happy we did! Dara got us right in and provided us with a delicious selections of tastings! We became members while tasting with her, she provided great insight to each wine and fun facts about the winery. They setting is huge with beautiful scenery inside and outside, very exquisite. The tastings are $10 per person unless you become members. If you're a member you can bring 3 more people everyday once a day for a free tasting! They let me put my moms name on the membership which was also what sold us! They also have a restaurant we didn't make it in, but I hear is yummy! I highly recommend this winery if you're in Lodi area for tasting! read more

We came here during the Wine & Chocolate Festival, Feb. 13-14, 2016. I had been to this winery before and was impressed the first time I went. I've always liked their Syrah, which is what I buy for my every day wine. For under $20 per bottle, it's a good deal with big flavor. I've always really liked their reserve wines too, especially Inkblot & Gluttony. On this most recent visit, something was off. First, the ladies serving the wines seemed like they just didn't care to be there. There was no enthusiasm about their wines, no smiles, etc. One of the pourers greeted us when we arrived, but then spent so much time talking to someone else on the side, that I had to flag someone down to get our first pour. Finally the original server came back and we were ready for our next pour. She said, "isn't someone else helping you now?" At the end, the 2nd pourer who ended up serving us, gave us the wine club membership info and had no enthusiasm about it at all. She didn't even explain the benefits of it. She pretty much said, "here's the info if you want to join." In regards to the wine, we did the reserve wine tasting for $10, but nothing really jumped out at me this time. Their reserve wines average about $59 per bottle, and after a weekend of some really great wine tasting in Lodi, I didn't think that their reserve wines were any better than some of the $20 bottles that I tasted at the smaller wineries. If they were to get more enthusiastic wine servers and lower their reserve wine bottle prices, I think this winery would be a lot more approachable. read more

Decided to stop for lunch based on the positive yelp reviews. We ended up wine tasting first. I have not heard of this winery before but have seen their eye-catching labels at the store. The tasting bar is to the right of the restaurant. Marta poured for us and asked us what we liked. She then suggested a tasting flight. As she poured she explained a little about each bottle. The tastes are smaller then we are used to but we still got a vibe for the flavor. We loved each one that we tried- all reds. We immediately joined the wine club and our $10 per person tasting fee was waived. They also give you a logo glass with your tasting fee. These wines have the best labels and names. We ended up buying a bottle of their Politically Correct red wine. The label is funny! The empty bottle will be going in our special wine bottle sculpture for all to see. We had made a reservation for 3 people for a tasting at 10:30am last Friday. When we arrived we were placed in a corner in the shade. It was chilly but were allowed to move to a table in the sun. We were in a standing location, and when asked to be at a seated table, were advised that those were for reservations. Was not aware of Reservation differences. Our server Des was polite but spent most of her time talking to her other guests and was even cleaning tasting stations of her guests who just left, before returning to us for our next tasting. I'm not sure if the time just flew by for her but my group spent a lot of time waiting and had even purchased a bottle to enjoy on site that took almost 15 minutes to gather. I understand there is reservation spacing during covid times so seeing other guests nearby being greeted and served in a timelier manner raised some questions. Review is for PIES ONLY This place has the best fruit pies I have ever had; PERIOD! Our favorites are the Bosenberry Peach and the Strawberry Rhubarb. The fruit is so fresh tasting, not too sweet and most of the fruit is locally grown. However the crusts are the real winner in these pies. So flaky and lightly dusted with sugar just make these pies amazing.Make sure that you reserve your pie for the holidays in advance as they will sell out and stop accepting orders a few days in advance. I like that they have a "frequent flyers" book that they track your purchases and you can earn free pies. We are already up to our second free pie! They are that good, if in the area stop in the cafe and order a slice. You will want to take a whole one home for sure! The wine tasting is good if you like the 7 Deadly Zins, but I go for the pie! read more
