I love this restaurant. The food is good, it's cheap and service is fast. I ordered the $20 combo that comes with a drink, appetizer, and entree. Very good, worth the price.
Great Chinese spot in SCP! They have some reasonable deals and the food tasted great. There have been times when the line was super long but usually it's not too bad to get seated. Overall all the signature items are probably safe to order.
Came here on a whim for lunch! Filling and not too pricy. My mom and I came here on a weekend lunch, small line but went quickly waiter only 10 min. They have table and counter seating, relatively spacious. They specialize in noodle and dumplings, have combo and à la carte option. We share the beef noodle soup combo with spicy dumplings and passion fruit tea, also ordered cucumber in the side. Beef noodle soup (8.5/10)-did less spicy and it was perfect large portion noodles were perfectly cooked beef was tender and chunky Spicy dumplings (8/10)-for the sauce on the side glad we did since it was spicy, but dumplings were plump and large wish skin was thinner Passion fruit tea (9/10)-refreshing and fruity good on summer day Cucumber (6/10)-not very crunchy but portion is large and good deal for $5.00 We spent $35 which is a good deal for the portion. Service is fast and food is delicious! Would love to come back and try the other noodle dishes.
Mian packs the heat and the flavor! Best appetizer: Chili Oil Chao Shou for its tender dumplings swimming in a tangy, spicy chili oil. For non-spicy starters, Shredded Tofu Skin, Seaweed Salad, and Pickled Cucumbers are nice, light, and refreshing. The Beef Roll Pancake was okay but with so many stronger dishes on the menu, it's probably not one I'd order again. Their noodles are amazing! The Golden Soup Chicken Noodle has the best broth - rich, savory, milky, and deeply comforting. The Spicy Beef Soup Noodles come loaded with tender beef. The Mapo Tofu Noodles carries silky tofu, spicy sauce, and a gentle numbing kick. The lively atmosphere, vibrant decor, and buzzing energy made me feel like I was dining in the middle of a bustling street market. Plenty of seating too - equally great for a solo noodle run or a group feast. Service was fast and efficient, though during busy rushes you may need to wave someone down for a quick reminder. Overall, a fun, flavorful spot that delivers on both atmosphere and Sichuan comfort food.
Came here on a Tuesday and were seated immediately. This restaurant chain earned a Michelin star in 2021. It is located downstairs from Din Tai Fung. They offer three levels of spiciness. Mild is already spicy and tongue tingling. If you are looking for spicy this is the place to come.
You know, it really is true when they say, "when one door closes, another opens". Because, as disappointing as it was to have our initial dinner plans foiled by the long line at Din Tai Fung (our fault for not having a reservation, but a two and a half hour wait on a weeknight?!), things didn't turn out all that terribly for us. After all, it's hard to be too upset when it led to us eating at such an awesome spot like Mian! Located on the first floor, directly underneath the perpetually busy Din Tai Fung, what prompted us to come here when we did may have been because it was the nearest alternative we saw, but I imagine we would have ended up here at some point anyways. For one, the decor and the artwork on their walls, in particular, are pretty eye-catching, but mostly, the menu is pretty enticing. Although it may not be super extensive, Mian has a solid selection of dishes to offer, from their Chili Oil Chau Shou, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and Mapo Tofu Noodles to their Thousand Year Egg with Tofu, Fried Pumpkin Pancake, and Spicy Beef Rib Noodle Soup. In short, there's plenty to choose from! -- THOUSAND YEAR EGG WITH TOFU I was super excited to try this, but, sadly, it ended up being more okay than great. The slices of tofu were decent, albeit really thin, and the eggs themselves were awesome, but the preserved vegetables on top were a bit overwhelming. -- CHILI OIL CHAO SHOU To me, the portion felt a bit light, but, to be fair, it's also because I just wanted more of this! The dumpling was perfect - the skins had just the right thickness (had a nice chew) and the filling was so meaty. Plus, the chili oil was terrific and had just a touch of heat! -- SPICY BEEF NOODLE SOUP Ehh...more solid than spectacular. The noodles were tender and the broth was decently flavorful. However, the chunks of beef felt a little inconsistent to me - some pieces were juicy while others were a bit on the chewy/tough side. -- CHENGDU ZA JIANG NOODLES While it wasn't the prettiest dish to look at, this tasted great. There was a good amount of meat and vegetables and I liked the slight kick that the sauce had. I just wish there had been more noodles to balance how much meat/veggies this had. Between how good the food is, the solid service (the workers were friendly and quick), and how convenient of an option they are, Mian is awesome spot, whether you're already going to be at South Coast or not. What's more, the prices here are relatively budget friendly as well, especially when compared to how much you might end up spending at Din Tai Fung (ignoring the fact that they're not exactly alike). Add all of that together and it makes me more than a little excited to come back whether it be here or at their outpost back home in the Bay Area!
pros: friendly service, clean tables cons: n/a we ordered the signature beef noodle level 2 spicy, golden chicken soup, steamed egg, pickled cucumbers, and iced lemon tea the signature beef noodle soup was not spicy at all, i felt like the broth tasted watered down/plain, just wasn't reminiscent of traditional beef noodle soups i had in the past. the golden chicken soup was ok, the pulled chicken was chewy and tough. the steamed egg was also ok, it was soft and silky but the flavor was just ok the lemon tea had a strong fragrance but the flavor was lacking everything was just ok, nothing stood out to me for me to want to return, if i was shopping at the mall and didn't want to wait at marugame i'd pop in here
Mian offers a really enticing combo meal option that is priced between $20-$25. I chose the $25 dollar combo with Chili oil dumplings, spicy beef noodles, and a drink. In today's economy, this is a steal! Portion is really fair and I had leftover. No complaints about the quality of the food. It's authentic and has good flavors.
4.5 stars I first tried Mian when they had their location in Las Vegas (with free mung bean soup!). I finally got a chance to try this location in South Coast Plaza. There was no wait for a party of two to be seated on a Saturday around 1:30PM. The interior is not that large but there are a good number of tables and the decorations are beautiful. Service was fine but minimal due to ordering via QR code. They have combination deals where you choose an appetizer, noodle dish, and beverage for $20-25 + tax, a pretty good deal. We tried two such combos and enjoyed the crispy cucumbers, golden soup wontons, hot and sour noodles, and spicy intestine noodles. We ordered passionfruit green tea and mung bean soup as our drinks. The food came out promptly. All of the food was tasty with generous portions. The golden soup has the tastiest broth in my opinion, and the mung bean soup was super refreshing. You can't go wrong with Mian for an affordable and tasty meal!
such a good combo deal. you get a drink, appetizer, and an entree! i got the boba milk tea, spicy beef noodle soup, and a chicken cutlet. the spicy beef noodle soup was very flavorful and the noodles have a good chewy texture. the noodles are on the thinner side but still good! the chicken cutlet was also really good and crispy! the only thing i would pass on was the boba milk tea. i'd get a different drink next time. you order on your phone and the food comes out pretty fast! will come back again!
I ordered the Combo B which comes with a drink, appetizer and a dish for $25.99. I ordered the passion fruit green tea, chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup. The passion fruit green tea was very refreshing. The chili oil dumplings and spicy beef noodle soup were both flavorful and cooked very well, but it was lacking a bit of spice. To order your food, you scan the QR code on your phone but the staff was very friendly and helpful making sure we weren't having any trouble ordering from our phones and helping us navigate the menu and giving recommendations based on our food preferences. They would clear our table of any extra empty dishes to give us more room. The service was very attentive and friendly.
Came for their Combo set deal and it was very filling! The potions are great if you're looking to share between two people and don't want to get exceptionally full. If you order the combo for yourself, you will definitely feel very satisfied. Beef Noodle Soup (8.5/10) Not very spicy, great noodle texture, and balanced broth. This is a great beginner beef noodle soup due to the rich flavors, tender beef pieces, and mild spice. Spicy dumping (6.5/10) Love the garlic flavor and chillies that compliment the dumplings well! However the wrapper was a tad too thick and the filling felt like it was missing something. Beef Roll Pancake (7.5/10) Great flakey texture from the pancake and wrapped tightly into a roll. I definitely enjoyed the balance of cucumber and onions. The sauce used was a tad sweet in my opinion. The service was fast and using the table QR code to check out made the experience accurate and efficient. I enjoyed that there were photos on the ordering page so you can see the dishes! I appreciated the servers for coming to check in with us frequently.
We had dinner here the other night. It is located inside South Coast Plaza on the level below Din Tai. So there is ample parking. The restaurant itself is charming and has a fun vibe. We both got the $25.99 Signature Combo. You get your choice of drink, an appetizer and one of the signature bowl of noodles. For an extra $3 you can add a dessert. We got the brown sugar ginger tea and the passionfruit green tea. Both were so refreshing and tasty. For our appetizers we got the chili oil dumplings. We loved the flavor and the heat on the dumplings. The dumplings themselves were soft and filled with pork. We got the spicy sparerib noodles. I loved the bok choy. The noodles were fresh and bouncy. The meat fell off the sparerib bones. The broth was rich, warm and delicious. For dessert we got the brown sugar rice cakes. Soft, sticky mochi texture and the brown sugar was the right amount of sweetness. The pumpkin cakes were soft and delicious. I loved the grated coconut on top. In addition to the signature combo, we added spicy cucumbers. They were crispy and just the right amount of heat. The vegetable fried rice was delicious and so flavorful that we ate all of it. We also got a cold combo with seaweed salad, wooden mushrooms and beef. It was perfect to break up some of heat from the noodles and dumplings. Wonderful service and large portions will make this your new soup noodle spot.

I came here on a crowded Christmas weekend so we waited about 40 minutes before we were seated. However, since it was located in Southcoast, we had someone wait in line while some of us shopped around so the wait went by fast. The food was DELICIOUS. They had a great selection of authentic Sichuan style noodles packed with flavor. You'll order from your phone so each person just adds their item to the cart. I highly recommend their spicy beef rice noodles (its not too too spicy) and for an appetizer, it's a must to try their chili oil chaoshou read more

We were at South Coast finishing up some Christmas shopping & wanted some noodles. We actually wanted to try another spot next door, but the line was ridiculous! So right next door is at his little Chinese restaurant that looked good as well. When you're seated you are asked to order through the QR code on your table. I ordered the spicy intestines noodle soup. My husband ordered the spicy beef noodle soup and we got the kids the clear broth beef noodle soup. And a half order of their Crispy Chicken. Everything was delicious. The spicy soup we ordered had so much flavor and you can feel that Szechuan numbing feeling from the spice! This is more of a once every 3 or 5 month thing for me because it's so rich and heavy...felt full the whole day! read more

The most authentic zhajiang mian in Southern California. Compared to other locations, they are making food less spicy. Even though I ordered the most spicy level, it's feels nothing compared the spicy level at their Rowland height or San Gabriel location. I saw comments complaining about noodles are too oily. TBH, chengdu zhajiang mian is OILY. The flavor comes from the oily meat source. The service has to be improved. The wait is crazy on the weekends. I would only go on weekdays. read more

Been a regular customer of Mian since 2019, first time trying location and it did not disappoint!! Food was great as always! Aside from the food, I want to give a special shoutout to Winnie. From the moment we walked in, the welcomes, the service, the checkups, and every time she raised her hand when she sees we need help - she's amazing! She truely makes me feel welcomed and I love it! I'm coming back again for the food and the service from all the workers! Thanks to y'all for making this location great! read more

Ended up trying this place on a whim. We were supposed to eat at the restaurant right next door, but changed plans after seeing the line. The restaurant is located right next to Marugame Udon and across from Uniqlo. While waiting to be seated, saw that this restaurant was on the Michelin Guide 2021. They provide a QR Code for the menu and you order food straight from your phone and can either pay on your phone or pay at the restaurant after you're done. Asked the server what they recommend the most and it was the Chengdu Zhajiang Noodle, Spicy Beef Noodle, and Mapo Tofu Noodle. We ended up ordering the Chengdu Zhajiang Noodle, Mapo Tofu Noodle, Chicken Gizzard Noodle, and Chili Oil Dumplings. I would recommend getting the Mild Spice for all the items unless you know for sure that you like the numbing Szechuan pepper spice. You can always ask for more spice per your liking if Mild isn't to your liking, but you can't take away the spice. The Chengdu Zhajiang had a sweeter taste compared to the Mapo Tofu. The Chili Oil Dumplings were also on the sweeter side. All the noodle dishes were good, especially the Chengdu Zhajiang and Mapo Tofu, so it just depends on whether you prefer a little sweeter taste compared to more savory. Something to note was that the water seems to come room temperature; not a big deal though, we just asked for cups of ice. Tried to order the Mung Bean drink but they sold out. The food was alright, kind of oily, but it wasn't crazy drowning in it. The customer service was very good. The service was quick, the servers were attentive, and they were all nice. Worth it to try at least once if you like noodles, but I'm not sure if I would return unless I really crave it. read more

Oh my GOODNESS. TRY THE BEEF ROLLS casually had a hangout with a friend and he said that these are the best and he was not wrong! It reminds me of a Peking duck dish with the flavor and garnish inside. We sampled the cold dish platter and other sides -- was very good! However, what will bring me back is the beef noodle soup and the beef rolls!! The beef noodle soup was amazing. The broth is excellent and the texture of the noodle is soo sooo good, the noodle quality is high. Ambiance is so-so. They have a blender near the front at the cashier and it's so LOUD. I would recommend them to move their blender to the back. It kept interrupting our conversations and it's much louder than the music playing -- my friend and I agreed it wasn't placed well. ****this is a self serve place so you will order on an app, but will pay later. Although you're ordering online, you can pay in cash in person after your meal! :) BEEF ROLLS!!!! read more

After trying Mian in Artesia, I decided to try this location since it opened up recently in South Coast Plaza! This location is definitely bigger, but this doesn't take away from the quality of food or service. I got the Chengdu Zajiang Noodles extra spicy and it tasted just how I expected. Although I got extra spicy, it wasn't too spicy for me. The only complaint that I have would be the pricing. The food is a bit expensive for what you get. read more

Take it that's it's still in a soft opening. My mom, hubby and I tried to get to south coast by 11am to beat the crowd but unfortunately, there were already a bunch of people queuing for din tai fung. So we saw this place and decided to give it a try. The setting was nice. Decor: I like the lanterns hung from the ceiling and the wall art they used. It sets a mood of when I was in China eating on the side of the street. It was nice that I can reminisce about a feeling I once had. The host told us to wait a moment so he can figure out where everyone is sitting. I thought it was bizarre since a lot of tables were available but hey, we can wait. Server: Moments later we were seated and our server came over to help introduce the menu. She was very attentive and helpful. Sweet young lady. Food: We tried the cold appetizer combo with Woodward mushroom which they called fungus, pickled radish, and spicy beef. It was actually really good but if you can't handle heat like me, the fungus will numb your tongue. My mom tried their mapo noodle and she said it was good. The tofu was nicely marinated and it went well with the noodles. I had the zhajiang noodle and I was surprised that I actually enjoyed it. It also came with a side of additional minced pork but I didn't finished it. If I were to return, I'd order this noodle dish again because the flavour was to my liking. My husband ordered the beef noodle and when I tasted it, I told him it wasn't to my liking. The beef was a bit dry and the noodle flavour was still starchy. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch for the most part. It was just too spicy for me. Now if I want to try it again, they have other locations in LA county. read more

The new kid on the block is not one I'd come to visit again. Underneath din tai fung and across from Uniqlo so their location can't be missed. Great interior decor, but that's pretty much it. The table service is not table service. You order online and the staff brings the food out. It was very confusing as to who your server was. I had to just flag down whoever I found or were nearby Service is stale and inattentive. Didn't get any water until asked but yet the adjacent had theirs brought, and I didn't hear them asking. Food is brought out one at a time and far too far apart, thus each party ate their meals separately and at different times. I had the spicy beef noodles and this may be the worst I've had. I know Chinese food, over all can be oily, especially sechuan food, but when I can only taste oil and nothing else, that can't be good. It even over powered the sechuan peppers. Everything I had was either too salty or flooded in oil. This is evident by the poor reviews. To top it off, the price point is ridiculous. I know it's south coast plaza, but come on! I don't mind spending money for good food but this was an absolute no-no. All of this, and they expect a minimum 18% tip. WTF! I will not be returning nor can I, with confidence, recommend. Go upstairs, wait 1-2 hours and have a better meal. read more

As someone who used to live in Sichuan, I would definitely recommend this place for certain dishes. Although the dishes are not as spicy or numbing as it should be, it is pretty good and I would go back there again for Jiajiang noodle, steamed eggs, appetizers combo, fried pumpkin cake, milk tea, grass jelly (be careful if you are allergic to peanuts). Things I probably wouldn't order it again: noodle with ribs. The chili oil dumplings are just okay. Service: 4.5+ The staffs are amazing, but the online order system kept messing it up. The server had to adjust it few times. read more

It was my first time to this place. There was a bit of a line but they got us in pretty quickly. The food was pretty good. I would say this is focused more on the noodle soups which is what their specialties are. I do have to say that the surprising dish for us was the steamed egg with the meat on top. Omg that egg was so smooth, it was almost like the soft tofu texture. It was very flavorful. I would honestly go back for that. The other noodle dishes we got were good as well, but be prepared for spice cause even the mild was pretty spicy. read more
