This is a Sichuan restaurant. If you're not familiar with the food, it is spicy Chinese. They do have non-spicy options on the menu also. just warning you, the normal spice level is already super hot. You have to scan the QR code on the table and order your food on your phone. Super convenient! We tried the Chengdu Zajiang noodles and the Chicken Gizzard noodles. It has that distinct sichuan pepper flavor which is slightly flowery and you get that numbing sensation on the tongue. They're generous with the meats and flavor was popping if you can handle the spice. We also tried the steamed egg. That was flavorful too. We also had the pan fried dumplings. Good but it has a slightly sweet flavor which was odd for Chinese food. I would recommend the brown sugar sticky rice dessert. It was surprisingly delicious. It's best described as fried mochi. Crunchy on the outside and soft gooey on the inside, slathered with liquid brown sugar. The ambiance is lacking gotta say. Meh. Who cares?! The food is good! I am definitely going back to try uhm ... everything on the menu! So good! I'm a fan! read more

Mapo tofu noodles were so yummy! Liam was our server and was super helpful and attentive! The cold cucumber is definitely a must in the summer heat, as it's very refreshing and flavorful. The spare ribs were tender and generous in portion. One bowl of noodle can be shared between two baddies!!! read more

I tried Mian for the first time this past Friday night and overall thought the place was solid but not quite as good as some other local Chinese noodle restaurants. The servers were nice and the food arrived quickly after ordering on the phone. The Chengdu Zajiang Noodles were mildly spicy even at zero spice level but had good flavor and portion size. Overall a decent spot but would probably eat elsewhere if I'm going to be at South Coast Plaza. read more

Was disappointed. Not at the food itself but how the food was presented in the menu. Was able to try the pig trotter and pork belly noodle. In the menu the pig looks crispy, and more sauced up)looks more brown), with little soup with the assumption that the sauce will be taken from the sauce used to make the pork cuts. When receiving the order, there was soup covering the whole dish and the pork loons light and did not look like what we saw on the menu. Nothing special with the taste. Would be nice if they clarified, if they did I would have ordered something else. read more

Decided to try this on a weekday morning and the there was no wait! It is a a corner spot right next to Marugame. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and I liked the interior design. It would be a nice place to sit down with some friends and converse! The Mapo Tofu Noodles were good but I wasnt a big fan of the noodles (7/10). The fried donuts were also pretty average but definitely not worth the price tag compared to what you could get at a mom n pop shop. (6/10) The chili oil wontons were delicious! I would definitely go back for them. The chili oil itself was different compared to others ive had and I can say its been the best ive had so far. (10/10) The brown sugar milk tea was okay. A little too watery for my taste and wish it was more creamy. (5/10) On the side note the water jug was quite off putting. Definitely should get those replaced :-0 Service was alright. We were walked to our table and asked to scan a barcode to order our food. The only time we were serviced was when we received our food to the table and to pour our water from the jug that was already on the table. We were never checked on throughout our meal. The only other time was at the end of our meal when it was time to tip and pay. Otherwise I would recommend to try it at least once :-) read more

It was good but I still prefer noodle street's beef rolls because there's more beef and there's too much cucumbers used as fillers. The noodles were good but not filling, especially for the price. Ambiance was modern. Service is fast with the QR code ordering read more

This is 2nd time trying Mian. Last time was about a year ago. Really feel the quality has dropped a lot. The appetizers were good. But the 2 noodle dish were very average. Had amazing experience with Miàn kitchen today. We were shopping around this area then found this location to try out the food. We had Spicy Intestine Noodle, Chengdu Dried Noodle, Hot and Sour Wontons and side of Spicy Fungus. The restaurant look pretty from the outside and nice ambiance inside, me and my friend like these funky chairs and it feel comfortable to sit on. Start of with spicy fungus, they have crunchy and sour garlicky taste you can eat together with the noodle or rice. The hot and sour is a must for everyone should try, but if you don't like to sour try the other one! The highlights are the Noodle, both of them are so tasty and savory. Especially for the Intestine Noodle broth and noodle came with a slightly kick of spicy. The server who took our order was nice and attentive, the food was fast and nice looking. Overall was great, we didn't have chance to try out the desert but we will definetly come back for it!! read more

Food was decent but all very salty to my taste, to me almost unpleasantly so. Also did take a while to come out. Service was fine, and prices slightly elevated imo--you do pay a bit for the ambience and mall location. I think 3.5 stars is fair for this place; it wasn't bad enough that I regret eating here and I do actually like the spicy wontons, but I at least don't feel compelled to return. We ordered the tomato beef noodles, zhajiangmian (which was unexpectedly sweet and peanutty for me--tasted fine, just not exactly what I expect from 炸醬麵), blanched veggies and steamed egg cup. Would have liked all of them better with 30% less soy sauce/sodium! read more

Another new addition to the growing "food court" in South Coast plaza lies Mian know for their Sichuan styled noodle dishes. The Chengdu noodle dish is similar to Mogu Mogu's Mazemen which are both dry dishes as contain sauce but no actual broth. Their minced pork mixed in with the accompanying chili oil becomes too overpowering and overwhelms the flavor profile while the noodles were a bit too chewy. The beef noodle soup contained chunks of meat but it was so heavy in fat content became inedible. Overall, at this price point and with the food standard being less than expected would be difficult to return for more than the initial visit. read more

This place has been on my list to try & I saw how crowded they were when they first opened! I went on Thursday evening around 7 pm & there was plenty of tables! Located right next to Marugame Udon & underneath Din Tai Fung! You use a QR code that is on the table to place your order & then the food came out pretty quickly. We got several food items & all of them were tasty, definitely want to come back to try other dishes. *Steamed Egg with Minced Pork: The egg was super silky & paired well with the minced pork. The pork was very flavorful & I would get this again. *Chengdu Zajiang Noodle: I thought this dish was pretty good but I don't tend to crave dry noodles often but this was overall pretty tasty if you like dry noodle. It comes with bok choy, minced pork, & a fried egg on top. *Spicy Beef Noodle: This dish was very delicious! The noodles were a tiny bit overcooked but paired very nicely with the spicy beef broth. The beef tendon was tasty but could have been softer. If the beef was more tender, I would rate this dish 5/5. *Mung Bean Smoothie: This was very light & refreshing! I was scared it would be heavy but I thoroughly enjoyed it. read more

Not sure why people say the service here is excellent - I've been here twice in the last month, and sadly after last night's experience, I'll never come back here again. Initially I was stoked to learn there was a Sichuan restaurant close to my home (normally I have to go to Tustin, Irvine, or Alhambra to get authentic and quality Sichuan food), and being partial to Chengdu style mala flavor profiles, I was hopeful. The first red flag is how they just ignore you while you're waiting to be seated - none of the service staff make eye contact with you - they can see you waiting to be seated and they just ignore you. On both of my visits (once during lunch on the weekend, and during dinner on a Friday evening), it took 20 minutes to be seated (even though the single seat bars and two tables in the back of the dining room were open). Once seated, I will at least give credit to the waiter on my first visit - he was very attentive and checked in on me multiple times once my food had been delivered. But last night, the waitress acted like I was diseased or something radioactive...she never checked on me, I had to flag her down multiple times since she didn't even give me any napkins when first seated, and when I had a question about a menu item I gave up trying to get her attention (or even the other waitstaff at the beverage bar area). Food quality here is nothing spectacular, but it is at least decent. The noodles I had in my soup (I got the same spicy beef noodle soup both visits) were overcooked and mushy, and the broth was very dull - and worst of all, it wasn't spicy at all. The quality of the meat and vegetables on both visits, however, was good. I will say the variety of cold appetizers I had on both visits were quite delicious and tasty, so at least there's that. But after having to spend South Coast Plaza prices for the smallest bowl of soup I've had at any Sichuan restaurant here in the OC (or up in Alhambra), I can't sing praises for this restaurant. The biggest turn off is that with the exception of the waiter who helped me on my first visit (sorry I forget his name...but he was a very good waiter), the rest of the waitstaff have that typical frowning, long face of entitled kids who resent the fact that they have to have a job to collect their trust disbursements. It's like you're asking them to cut off their ear to be polite and provide pleasant customer service. If you want better noodle soups with much larger portions and lower prices, definitely check out Noodology in Irvine - much better quality ingredients and dishes (and their menu is almost identical to Mian's), or hit up Sichuan Impression in Tustin. read more

I ordered the Zhajian mian noodles. It was a noodles with a dry meatsauce, egg, and vegetables. I ordered it with no spice for the sake of my stomach. The dish was extremely flavorful. The meatsauce was very good. The portions were very good as well. You can adjust the spice level to your l8king. Their fried rice was good too. The only con from my visit was the service. Great first experience here! Love the noodle soup here as well as the great structure of how they move the line and get your order quick and fresh. The chili oil dumplings are good here but I prefer din tai fungs. Braised Pork Belly Stew Noodles is on the richer flavorful side. Clear Beef Broth Noodle soup is light and delicious. THIS IS A HORRIBLE RESTAURANT WITH TIP FRAUD. The servers here are absolutely insane. We went to eat here around 7:30 with my friends. Our food didn't even come out yet and Stella (the server i think because you order through a QR code here not with people) came saying we had to pay now because they were closing. That was fine and i paid and even tipped, and then they gave us a receipt which didn't match the items we ordered. Then, a different white male server came out (didn't catch his name) and told us we have to pay again. I told him we already paid and he said "you know you guys have to pay for your food right?" In the most condescending manner (the three of us eating here were all asian). I was shocked to hear and i told him to not talk to us like we weren't going to pay because we already paid. Then Stella comes over and says "i didn't give you a wrong receipt, you're wrong." At this point we were all done because nobody would even double check their mistake and called the manager. He said "just give them 10% off" which shows a lot about the service and the people who run the restaurant. After Stella looked at us and goes "what are you looking at?" to us which was a crazy thing for a sever to say to a customer. At the end the manager gave me a "refund" (UPDATE: the charge went through. I now have to dispute it with my bank.) because she did make me pay for the wrong table and we had paid twice. He proceeded to give us coupons to come back later at the end for 10% off which was crazy. Why would anyone come back to a restaurant that treats their customer this way? I've never been treated like this at a restaurant before ever, like we are going to dine and dash when we had ALREADY paid before our food even came out. Then get YELLED at by two servers. Absolutely insane experience, please do not go here for the sake of your sanity. After the whole horrid experience we left basically paying for the full meal because my friend ended up paying again and admitted they charged me for the wrong table. the food here is mediocre. The noodle is soggy and the food comes out so late. Overall one of the WORST experience i've ever had at a restaurant. Would give it a zero stars if i could. ALSO this place does tip fraud (already charge tip without letting you know). they charged 3.18 for tip already which i think they do for every table looking at other reviews. Ridiculous. This place should be reported to the bureau of consumer protection. read more

Mian is a relatively new noodle spot in South Coast Plaza. Specifically, it is located on the first floor near the Forever 21 and Marugame Udon. I had an "okay" experience here, but I can see others liking the food here more than me. Wait/Interior: On a busy weekend, the wait wasn't too bad. The line outside the door was definitely shorter than Marugame's and Din Tai Fung's. We waited around 25 minutes. Despite the restaurant space looking small, it didn't feel too cramped and the line moved quickly. The decorations inside are vibrant and fun to look at. Ordering/Food: You can order takeout using a QR code on the sign at the storefront. If you're dining in, each individual table has a QR for you to scan, order/submit your order from, and pay from. This may not be an intuitive way to order for those who aren't tech-savvy, but I thought the QR code menu was very clearly presented and I liked how you could submit your order to the kitchen once you were ready. * Chengdu Fries ($6): the fries themselves were very basic tasting and reminiscent of those frozen crinkle fries you can get at supermarkets. The seasoning was just spicy and not much else. * Chengdu Zajiang Noodles ($14.50): this was one of the options for dry noodles. I did enjoy these noodles and was pleasantly surprised at how filling it was. It came with a generous amount of minced pork, some boy choy, a fried egg, and noodles with lots of szechuan sauce. The "mild spicy level" I designated was still decently spicy. * Chili Oil Dumplings (Size Small, $9): comes with six dumplings. These were comparable to Din Tai Fung's spicy dumplings, but not quite as good. These dumplings only have pork, but are plenty spicy and flavorful. * Sweet Iced Jelly ($5): this dessert consisted of jelly, nuts, and some dried berries. This was honestly very refreshing after all the spicy dishes. Overall, I liked the food but I'm not too big on spicy food. If you don't like spicy food or Szechuan, this might not be the place for you as there are very limited options for non-spicy food. read more

I was so excited to see another soup noodle shop entering South Coast Plaza (SCP). It would have provided more variety and I could choose between this place or Marugame. However, this was such a let down. I grew up with these types of noodle dishes in my childhood and my Chinese relatives made sure to teach my cousins and I how to recreate them whenever a craving hits. I certainly know that they would have been disappointed to taste what my partner and I had to endure during this meal. We arrived at the restaurant at around 6pm after strolling around the mall and were immediately seated with no wait time. The person who guided us to the table was sweet, but to foreshadow, this was the first and last person who spoke and took care of us during the meal besides the person who just handed us the iPad to pay at the end with no words said. Let's start with the appetizer. The tofu pudding with chili oil was insane in terms of the amount of oil. See the photo for reference. We spent three minutes spooning out the oil into the water cup in order to not have it coat our entire mouth. The tofu quantity is quite limited so I would skip this one altogether. Now for the noodles. My partner got the clear broth noodles and this one was the best one out of the two. It has a deep and rich beef flavor in the broth and it had a slight sweetness to it as well. It was indeed clear and it had limited to no oil on the surface of the soup. Noodles had a great bouncy texture and the addition of the bok choy provided that necessary texture and crunch. On the other hand, the beef pickled noodles one was a disaster. I'm well aware that the menu did say that it was a numbing one; however, it didn't have to be so numbing to the point that it was inedible and inducing heartburn. My partner and I were stunned at how uncomfortable it was to get through this dish. It's unassuming and some would even say it looks identical to the clear beef noodles (minus the peppers on top), but be warned that it's extremely numbing. Pricing wise...it's steep for the quality and service that you're getting. The staff was very hands off and you'll be doing all the ordering on your phone through a QR code. The quantity of food you're getting for a $16-20 bowl of noodle is pretty small. Not worth it in my opinion. We left feeling pretty depressed with the meal and it left us with that sad feeling of wanting really anything to cancel out the taste of dinner. Stick with Marugame for noodle soups while you're at SCP. If you're wanting this type of noodle soup from Mian, I suggest checking out Noodology in Irvine and Lan Noodles in Arcadia. read more

We visited Mian on a tuesday afternoon and it was pretty busy with a line wrapped around the store. Service: Overall, the service was okay, you order using the QR code and someone comes for payment when you are finished with your meal. Unfortunately, they brought me the wrong dish and when I let them know, after I had taken a bite out of it and realized, they took it away, but then brought it back out immediately to serve to the table next to us. So essentially, they gave someone else the food that we had already touched. Food: The food itself is pretty good if you like sichuan cuisine. I got the Zajiang noodles and they were chewy and spicy, mint flavored. If you're not into spicy food, I would definitely suggest the pork dumplings or the wonton soup, but they are both a little oily for my liking. Overall, mian serves traditional sichuan food that seemed to be really great for people looking for that type of food, however, as a non-spicy food eater, this definitely wasn't for me and the mishap with the noodles made me wonder if other health violations may have been going on. read more

I am usually not a noodle lover, but after coming to MIÀN, I can appreciate noodles a little bit more. This restaurant is located inside South Coast Plaza shopping mall, so it is a good option after you are done shopping. The interior is clean and very cute with the signs and decor. I ordered the Chengdu Zajiang noodles. I really liked the noodle texture and the fact that it came with an egg! I wish it was a little more spicy/flavorful, because to be honest, I am not that big of a fan of mala but I really like pure spice. However, the side dish of radishes really surprised me. Those were so good!! I would honestly buy a whole jar if they sold those, or at least learn how to make it at home. I also ordered the red bean milk tea, which was not as red-beany as I hoped.
