My wife and I went to Mia's for her birthday yesterday. We were blown away. Pleasent atmosphere for a coastal spot. Amazing selection of tequila. Service was top notch! Highly recommend doing an appetizer dinner...really just so you can try them all. We did the oysters - best I've had in a long time - octopus and ceviche. Chef's kiss to those three. The entrees were good but I would say the apps were the shining moment. My wife also did a coconut margarita and it was pretty great. All in all, we will be back without a doubt. read more

I don't normally leave restaurant reviews, but the service my family and I received here was exceptional enough to warrant a review. The food came out quickly, the bar was efficient, and our waters were never empty. Our server was present but not overbearing, the manager/owner stopped by for a quick chat, and in the course of conversation it came up that we were celebrating a birthday that weekend. Even though we hadn't stopped at Mia's for that celebration, the staff brought out something special anyway, which was very much appreciated. As for the food, I can recommend the octopus, oysters, and scallop ceviche. Fresh seafood, fresh flavors, a nice balanced blend. My birthday dinner and I could not have chosen a more perfect dining experience to accentuate my day ! Our attentive, knowledgeable and amazing server, Katy, recommended choosing from the shareable section : volcano tostada, crispy Spanish octopus , hamachi crudo, and pork belly tacos . And, we chose every one of them and were extremely satisfied . Out of those 4, the 2 that stood out in robust flavor were the volcano tostada and the crispy Spanish octopus! There is a full service bar. There is outside/patio seating or inside . We chose inside and still enjoyed the "al fresco " feeling by its indoor-outdoor design. As a long-term resident, I am absolutely thrilled to see chic and trendy new eateries elevating our local dining scene. And, Mia's...being a great addition to that scene!! read more

I came here around 11:45 AM on a Friday and booked through OpenTable, though honestly, reservations didn't seem necessary at that time. There was plenty of outdoor seating, including a nice shaded area with umbrellas, which made it really comfortable. Parking was easy with plenty of street spots nearby, which is always a plus. Our waitress was phenomenal. She was friendly, attentive, and gave great recommendations. She checked in on us regularly and made the whole experience even better. We ordered a few dishes: * Shrimp Tacos: served as a trio, and easily one of the highlights. The flavors were light, fresh, and just really well balanced. * Hamachi Crudo: this came with a hibiscus sauce drizzled over it, which gave it a unique and slightly floral flavor. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the whole dish felt light and refreshing. * Volcano Tostadas: another standout. The crunch added great texture, and the diced carne asada was flavorful without being greasy. Definitely something a little different in the best way. Overall, everything we had was delicious. The food quality really stood out, and paired with the excellent service, it made for a great experience. We had a girls night at Mia's last night and the food was just OK. We did love the ambiance of the restaurant tho... We each had a different margarita- the coconut, carrot passion and the aguachile. None of them were worth coming back for. If I had to choose out of the three- it would be the aguachile. We started off with the volcano tostadas- 3 come in an order. This was the best out of what we ordered. However- it was just ok. We then got the empanadas- 3 come in an order with a salsa and a chimichurri aioli. The salsa tasted like the filling of the empanada and the aioli tasted like tartar. My friend complained to constantly burping this up the rest of the night. I didn't think these were great... just ok. Wouldn't order them again. We ordered the seasonal oysters. These were also just ok. There was too much greenery on top that took away from the oysters. We finished with an espresso martini and carajillos. These two drinks saved the review. They were so good. Highly recommend coming in for the carajillo. Came at 7PM on Sunday for light bites and we were able to be seated immediately for two people. There was parking outside of the restaurant along the street. Ordered the crispy fish tacos, hamachi crudo, and papas and mole negro. We wanted to try the octopus but it wasn't available. *hamachi crudo: the hamachi was melt in your mouth and the hibiscus ponzu was not just visually stunning but also bright and unique in flavor *papas and mole negro: I was a fan of how crispy and fluffy the potato pave was, mole was smoky and nutty *crispy fish taco: on the steeper end in terms of price point, but the cod was flaky and the cucumber pico de gallo was a nice contrast to the fried fish The space was very beautiful inside and service was friendly and attentive, our server had detailed recommendations. Had a wonderful meal here. The raw oysters were amazing. Served with cilantro was unique and fresh! It did take 45 minutes from the time we sat down until we received our two flights of tequila. The service was quite slow and they were not busy. I would suggest the staff be quicker to attend the customers. Great food though! read more

Easy parking too on the street in front. Grace was our server. The Happy Hour menu is not listed on their website, but you'll find pictures of it here on Yelp under menus. COCKTAILS: Any of their cocktails are $10 at happy hour, v $14-16 regularly. I got the OAXACA OLD FASHIONED: Reposado tequila, mezcal, Nixta, xocolatl mole bitters, angostura, agave. Very refined and super delicious. Strong and sippable too! My friend got the CLASSIC MARGARITA and was very happy with it. APPS: We each got a FISH TACO ($3 each - a bargain for a posh place in SB) - and we shared the MEZZE PLATTER, $12 and very yummy. It comes with pita *and* with vegetables you can dip instead, and three dips: muhammara, tzatziki, and roasted red pepper and feta. They were all good, but I was crazy for the muhammara - just the right balance of bell peppers and walnuts. Yum! Folks, this happy hour cannot be beat. We had a perfectly good dinner this way, at bargain prices, on a cool terrasse. Went here for brunch after picking up hubby from the train station. I was craving steak and eggs and ranch 45 had stopped serving breakfast by the time his train arrived. I hadn't been to Mia's since it opened but it's on my Happy Hour list. we parked in back....had to walk around to front since back doors were both locked. (good to know because I imagine I looked silly looking for an open door). service. .very friendly. when we were seated I asked for a table that where I wouldn't be cold (so not outside unless there are patio heaters). the table they offered was perfect...bench seats, in back of restaurant and cozy. I ordered my steak and eggs...eggs over medium. basically i want my white cooked and the yellow anywhere in between super runny and solid. egg's came practically raw. they white was raw and runny...she offered to recook the eggs, but I had lost my appetite. i boxed up my food and my husband was almost done with his meal by then. I had a bite of his food and it was tasty. Our server was so gracious and lovely and she was kind enough to remove my entree from the bill. I would love to return and check out happy hour... Visited Mia's on a busy Friday night and were seated outside. The restaurant was lively, and Jojo, our server, was wonderful. We started with the octopus, scallops, and ceviche, followed by the skirt steak, lamb, mushroom salad, and Aleppo chicken, and finished with the olive oil cake and rice pudding. The octopus was tender, flavorful, and well cooked. The scallops were beautiful and nicely done with bright acidity. The ceviche, however, lacked seasoning and fell a bit flat. The mains were underwhelming overall. The rack of lamb, ordered medium, was chewy, the Aleppo chicken was dry, and the mushroom dish was overpowered by heavy sauce. The skirt steak was decent but not memorable. Dessert didn't redeem the meal, the olive oil cake was dense, and the rice pudding had some undercooked grains. There's potential here, and I'll be curious to see how the menu and execution evolve over time. read more

We enjoyed a delicious brunch in their covered outside area. We ordered the short rib flautas, chicken sandwich, and pork belly tacos and shared the dishes between the three of us. All were yummy with wonderful flavors. Their french fries were amazing, super crispy yet pillowy & creamy on the inside. They need to put them on the menu as a side dish offering! I was so looking forward the opening of Mia's...then a friend invited me to tag along with her at the Grand Opening today. My friend, fellow Yelper Natalia, lives in Solana so she gets all the info of what is happening via the chamber of commerce. Thanks for this great grand opening and much success to this new fabulous venture. I loved the margarita and from the 3 appetizers I was able to try, my favorite was the carrot with a sauce that reminds me so much the Catalan romesco sauce. The restaurant is airy and cozy, as many places in Solana Beach area. Lovely and classy, with a warm approach to customers. I will be back for a full experience soon. New owners have taken over this space along Hwy 101 in Solana Beach. Mia's recently debuted with its Baja California and Mediterranean influenced cuisine. A full grand opening celebration will happen in a couple of weeks during the middle of November. There were two outdoor seating areas, along the sidewalk out front and a side patio to the north of the main dining area. I sat across from the central bar for a recent mid-afternoon lunch when there were just a handful of customers. The two-sided menu listed the beverages on one page. Shareable plates, salads/veggies, and entrees made up the food offerings on the other page. A couple of the shareable items were sufficient for my meal. The first was the Picadillo Empanadas which came as a set of three pastries with a ground beef filling. Chimichurri aioli and peanut chipotle salsa were provided as dips. I preferred the aioli because of its herbiness. The empanadas were okay in size for the price. I do wish they were hotter temperature-wise. The Crispy Spanish Octopus was my second item. Unlike many places, this kitchen used a grown-up octopus tentacle that was grilled to perfection. A few baby Yukon potatoes were smashed and crisped to serve as a carbohydrate base. Chimichurri and romeseco were the sauces that were used. Bits of Spanish chorizo sausage were also sprinkled into the mix. The presentation and flavor profiles of this pulpo dish were one of the best that I have experienced in a while. The service from my waitress was good. One of the managers (owner?) also came by to check up on me. For the price and quality of my food, I gave a four star rating for my visit to Mia's. read more

What a great find! I hadn't heard about this new restaurant and just happened upon it on Yelp. The food, service and ambiance were all great. They were so accommodating about everything. We asked to be seated in a quiet area and they seated us outside and brought a heater over just for us. Then later the music came on and it got really loud and we asked if they could turn it down a bit and they did so immediately. My lamb came over cooked when I had asked for medium rare. They wisked it away immediately to fix it. The manager came out to apologize and ask if we needed anything while we waited for it to be remade. When it was ready the manager himself delivered it to make sure it was perfect. FANTASTIC service. Our server was sweet and friendly. The bartendar made us some delicious mocktails that were priced lower then the alcohol version which normally we don't get a discounted price for. The two mains we had were the lamb and the short rib. The portion of short rib was huge and tender, melt in your mouth and it came with yummy polenta under it. The lamb was to die for. Just mouth watering. My only complaint is that there was not enough lamb. There were only a few bites of this mouthwatering lamb and I wanted more. I would gladly have paid more for a bigger portion. (I do think the lamb portion needs to be doubled because there was very little of it). Underneath the lamb was a fantastic couscous dish and some eggplant and all with a delicous sauce. I practically licked the plate to get it all. The only disappointing moment was the dessert menu. There were only 3 items and none of them sounded very appetizing. I would have expected some amazing desserts after the to die for meals. We were trying to decide what kind of food theme was being represented so we asked our waiter and he called it "Baja Mediterrean". It had some cool Mediterrean dishes like the lamb but there were also tacos and ceviche on the menu. The menu is electic in a great way and I can't wait to return again. It will be hard not to order the lamb again but I am going to try to force myself to try some of the other appetizing dishes. Mia's in Solana Beach is a great modern Mediterranean neighborhood spot with a trendy vibe that works for both date night and happy hour with friends. The food leans Mediterranean with a contemporary Californian touch. The cocktails were the highlight, playful, creative, and genuinely well-executed. Case in point: the carrot margarita, weird in theory, but somehow totally works. Bright, slightly earthy, not too sweet, and honestly one of those drinks you keep thinking about after you leave. My friends had a salad and the fried chicken sandwich, and another friend and I had the short rib flautas and they were light and crisp and filled with the short rib. The ambiance is super cute and I love the amount of space they have to accommodate you with multiple spots inside and outside. Truly loved the spot and they will definitely recommend! Since just before the New Year, I have visited 3 restaurants ... Mia's in Solana Beach was the first. Stacy, Lisa and I met just before the year ended, to celebrate our friendship and our San Diego Foodies and Carlsbad Foodies accomplishments this past year. Mia's used to be ALCE 101, on PCH. It has both an indoor dining area and an outdoor area. The good thing about the outdoor dining is ~ there are heaters! We came for Happy Hour. We order Ceviche, Crispy baby Yukon potatoes, the Mezzo Platter roasted red pepper and feta, muhammara, tzatziki, with vegetable crudité and pita, Meat Picadillo Empanadas and Rice Pudding. We are talking about ceviche and if you didn't grow up eating it I say there is a very good chance you don't appreciate it. Lisa says this is a ceviche with a yellow tail and basically the lemon cooks the fish. And I must say there are nothing but surprises here: how friendly the staff is and how qualified and welcoming the manager is. The fact that they DO NOT USE seed oils. That will bring me back over and over again because seed oils are highly processed, (canola, rapeseed, palm or peanut oil, etc). I can't wait to tell my daughter who uses a Restaurant Seed Oil app to detect and decide where she eats! I did not expect to like the Ceviche. My friends at the table say I like it because it's because it's so fresh. Lisa says: "I like the Ceviche too. It has a kick to it" On second thought she adds: "I actually like everything we are eating". I am surprised by the size of the Mezzo Platter and how well it goes with the Ceviche, mixing and matching those pita triangles. Lisa says: "the vegetables are delish and what a beautiful presentation." "Fresh, colorful and delicious", I add. "The vegetables are making me very happy." The Potato is the biggest surprise. You'll just have to order it to see what we are talking about. I will say this: Stacy says "It's almost like a potato pie." And I will say they have done an amazing job with the taste and plating of a simple potato. Ok. You win. Go see the picture I took.... And last but not least, I am blown away by a rice pudding with pistachios on top. We are all stuffed, as we continue to take bites of the irresistible rice pudding. One more comment from me: "I don't even eat meat but the Empanadas are really good." I will come back, we all say together. Stacy says: "Great flavor profiles". Hey wait a sec! We visited Mia's for dinner and really loved the ambiance.....the decor and atmosphere are so warm and inviting. The food was good. We had the steak. The chimichurri sauce was great. We also ordered the cauliflower. It was perfectly cooked but the sauce was a bit overpowering. The crispy fish tacos were also good. The drinks were great (highly recommend the classic margarita and the mule!). Our server was okay, not the most attentive or knowledgeable, but overall the vibe made up for it. Stopped by at Mia's recently to try their "California fresh food" and left feeling a bit let down. We ordered the Hibiscus Tataki Hamachi, Snapper Ceviche and Scallop Agua Chile. For drinks I got the Maracuya Mule and my friend got the Mia's classic margarita. While my drink was great, my friends order was messed up three times and finally we had to send it back as the bartender couldn't get it right. The food was very average and lacking flavor. The hamachi tasted fishy, I love yellowtail and it was the first time in my life that I didn't feel like eating it. Not sure if it was old or what, but not appealing. The scallop agua chile was the best, but I would have liked it to be a bit more tangy. The taste was a bit too subdued. The snapper ceviche was also a muddle of flavors. Nothing really stood out. We didn't try any of the main entrees, they might be better? All in all a very average food experience unfortunately. read more

So good! I think it's been a quiet opening, we luckily snagged two seats at the bar. The oysters are BOMB, quite honestly the best oysters in all of North County! We also had crispy octopus and the chille relleno with shrimp. Everything was delicious! Bar staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the house version of an espresso martini and I loved it! The remodel is so smart, way better seating arrangement inside and out. They added lots of booths, very tasteful coastal decor. Mia's has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are so very nice and welcoming. The food however was disappointing. I had the Riviera salad and added tuna. The salad was overdressed and my tuna was not fresh. A seared ahi with a strong smell and i did take a bite and knew right away. My friends at the table said they could smell it too. They immediately made it right and offered me a replacement. The menu is very fish forward and I was not going to choose something raw or seared again. I got the chile rellenos and that was tasty but mainly sauce and garnish and not much food. My friend loved her shrimp tacos but they are very tiny as well. Great meal for someone not really hungry. We also got the meze platter. The pita was great but the dips I tried were not too flavorful. They brought out a couple of desserts because we were celebrating birthdays,which was so thoughtful . Very unique, but neither were yummy. A rice pudding with a crème brûlée top and an olive oil cake that was really dry, despite a whip cream topping . Sadly there were just too many negatives for me to warrant a return visit. read more

Service was quick and attentive, which I appreciated. My only wish is that my lamb and steak had been cooked medium rare as ordered. They came out pretty charred (as you can see in the pic, the bone was BLACK), which was unfortunate because the flavor was actually really good -- the temperature was just off. Came here for brunch on a Saturday. The staff was very welcoming and attentive. We tried the octopus which was perfectly cooked and played beautifully. The ceviche had an amazing spicy kick to it. Not too spicy but just enough to allow you to eat more of it. I had the short rib flautas which were very filling. They do have a kids menu which is very basic but a great option for little ones. Service was a little delayed but otherwise the staff was very nice. I love the layout of the place, there is an indoor section, an outdoor section, and a halfway between that acts as an indoor patio. I ordered the braised short ribs and let me tell you! They were amazing. Soft, flavorful, and accompanied by an herb salad to take away some of the heaviness the polenta and rib Connor bring. 10/10 read more

We loved Mia's so much! The drinks were amazing, and everything we tried (just appetizers this time) was so good - we already can't wait to come back for dinner. What really made the experience stand out was the service. We came with our 9-month-old, and the staff could not have been more kind and welcoming. They were so sweet with him, playing with him and making us feel completely comfortable .. it honestly made our night. Huge kudos to the whole team, but ESPECIALLY our server Chloe, who is an absolute angel. We will be requesting her whenever we come in because she was so great.
