This is one of my daughter's favorite restaurant in Ithaca. We have to agree; an exceptionally fine dining experience. Started with a drink: I asked if the no-alcohol kiwi Nohito could have a little rum. It was great, not too sweet or clogged with mint leaves and you could taste the kiwi. Then the plates: pork wontons were in a flavorful broth. Shrimp papaya salad had huge shrimp. Ramen had a great flavor. A little less great: pork buns had really fatty pork (but the bun, cabbage and sauce were wonderful). The lobster tandoori was dry and not separated from the shell; not much tandoori flavor. We will try the pan fried lobster next time. Desserts were fantastic: sour cherry gelato, passion fruit sorbet and rice cardamon tart ( no crust) were exquisitely flavored. Service was attentive. Mmmm so many great flavors tonight. I spied a grilled portobello with satay 1st --delish. Next was beefless strips (soy/wheat) panang curry--very flavorful and a feast more protein than I expected vegetables. So:- I craved veggies and ordered the beet salad --great temperature for the beets...very satisfying. I ordered the tart to go since it has fruits on it and I try to keep fruit separate from normal foods. read more

Was one of our favorite restaurants, until tonight. They have changed the warm staff. We sat at the bar, worst service. Ordered dinner, there was an object in my pizza. Person at bar took away, said I didn't want another. Manager brings me a new pizza. Says don't understand how that ended up in your pizza. Never came by again and charges us for the pizza and dinner. Awful service and food downhill. We went there at least once a week will NEVER return. Very disappointed. read more

What a pleasant place to dine. I went there on a Saturday night when they were very busy, and the hostess worked hard to find me a seat at the bar and before I was seated despite running around like crazy, and kept reminding me that she wouldn't forget me and get me a place. The food was absolutely spectacular. The two bartenders were extremely busy but always had time to fill my glass and get my food in QuickTime. Just a delightful experience. read more

Great service, lovely atmosphere (the banquette seating is very nice)! It's generally not very crowded when I've been there. I really like the creme brulee desserts. The slow roasted pork belly and the scallops (Prig Pow Hoi) are two of my favorite dishes. I enjoyed the vegetarian samosas too. read more

First experience at Mia's was relatively mediocre. Very nice atmosphere and great service, but the ramen noodles were bland and unappealing and my duck samosa arrived cold. The restaurant is in the Commons, a bit further away from N. Aurora street. While restaurants there were full and noisy, Mia was a nice quiet place. I had the best seafood bouillabaisse ever. read more

I lived in San Francisco for 4 years, and may have been spoiled by the fact that there are so many quality food options available. In general, I've found Ithaca restaurants overprice, overhyped and underwhelming. But Mia did not disappoint. It is one of the few restaurants in Ithaca that is truly worth it. I was very disappointed with the food and the service was terrible. The sweet potato fries were plain despite the waiter telling us that they had truffle oil on them. The meat in the Korean BBQ was very tough. The beet salad was dry and lacked flavor and the ramen noodles tasted like they came out of a package. The samosas looked like they had been frozen and were dry. The waiter was snarky and awkward and lacked knowledge about the menu. My boyfriend and I went here on a date for our anniversary (we had a gift card - otherwise probably wouldn't have tried it) and not an I glad we did!! We love the asian inspired tapas vibe. The cocktails were made to perfection and our waitress was attentive and kind. She was also helpful in describing her favorite dishes since their menu is so big. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes! We ended with the trio creme brûlée and it was perfect. Left full and happy. It was a relaxing sophisticated evening, even with kid in tow. The food was incredible. One of the worst dinner experiences I've ever had in Ithaca. Awful food. Extremely long waiting time. Poor service- my water was left unfilled for over 10 minutes- twice. They did not even begin to serve us until 15 minutes after we sat down. Incredibly overpriced for both quality and quantity of food. Waiter also overcharged when he split checks, seemed to be intentional. Don't ruin your night - go somewhere else. What an awful establishment. read more

Mia came highly recommended by my coworkers and peers in the Finger Lakes area. I've visited twice and found the food to be good if somewhat inconsistent. The salad with the fried tofu on top is absolutely amazing! However, the entrees, while not disappointing, we're also not stellar. My biggest issue with Mia is the inconsistency in service. On my first visit I had a very friendly young lady who was also the bartender. She had a great attitude but was spread very thin with both roles. So the wait was longer than I would have preferred. However, on my second visit I had a young man who was nothing short of rude. He took my food before I was finished eating, refused to make any substitutions, and refused to get a manager for me. I actually had to go back to the restaurant to complain about the service I received. What was more concerning, was the owners reaction and seeming lack of concern for the treatment his staff was doling out. For that reason I have chosen not to return to Mia for any future meals. read more

I'm not one to usually care so much about somewhat bad service, but this experience merits a review. I had high hopes for MIA after reading what other yelpers had to say, but I have to confess I was utterly disappointed. We sat down for dinner at 730pm, and fifteen minutes later no one had come by our table. We didn't know who our server was and flagged some server down who kindly took our order (even though we weren't in his section). Our server eventually brought out our food, but it took an hour for the entrees to come out. There was no explanation or apology whatsoever. In fact, our server didn't utter a single word to us until we were finished with our entrees, at which point we were willing to forgo the MIAs beautiful deserts and just get out of there, but ff course getting the check was no easy task either. We weren't the only ones frustrated with this situation. We overheard a nearby table complain that they too had completely lost their patience. So all in all I give MIA 4 stars for food, and a zero for service. Not sure if it's a worth a second try... read more

I invited friends to dine on opening night in late June. The experience was terrific. The waitstaff was attentive and informative. One of my guests is Turkish, as was our waiter. This made for a great connection and we all listened intently to their exchanges and laughter. The spring roll appetizer was delicious. Many of us had the lamb dish and we were blown away with Lex's (owner) creation. There was plenty of food. The owner's wife is a pastry chef and we were told that all desserts were homemade. We ordered five of the desserts so we all could sample the variety. Each was better than the last. The pistachio kofti was soft and delicious. The creme brule trio was warm and rich in flavors. The chocolate bombe had a real hit of raspberry that was so pleasing. The coffee was very good and the wine selection was varied and appropriate. I went again two nights ago, just for dessert and coffee. Although we were only having dessert, we were seated quickly and our business was treated as importantly as a dinner customer. My daughter and I shared 3 desserts (!) and they were as good as opening night. We were not rushed through, in fact, we lingered for quite some time, finishing our coffee, after our desserts were gone. I had the same Turkish waiter we had in June and he remembered my friend. Mia is an outstanding Ithaca gem. I am pleased to know I can take out of town guests there and be confident it will be wonderful. We were in Ithaca for Cornell's parent's weekend and we were looking for some special restaurants. We wanted one to be in The Commons so we chose Mia and we weren't disappointed. The place is trendy and has a nice vibe. The food has an interesting twist on traditional Asian food. Yes- it is pricier than a typical Thai restaurant, etc. but the food is definitely more unique and the service was great. It was our favorite restaurant for the weekend. read more

My wife and I had just dropped off our son for college and decided to get a bite to eat/dinner before driving 3 plus hours home. Checking out the beautiful new commons area in Ithaca, we saw what looked to be an interesting option-- Asian tapas. 90 minutes later, still waiting for our main dishes as the three tables who arrived after us were finishing up and paying-- and after trying to wave down our rude waiter for the 3rd time-- we had to get up and leave so we could find somewhere to eat before our trip. I generally find unemotional communication when there's an issue fixes 99% of any restaurant snafus-- most restaurants care about doing a great job for their patrons. Not the case here. Our waiter aggressively avoided coming near us, ignoring us when I tried to get an update on our meal. I asked the woman at the front if I could talk to a manager and she said there was no manager there. I asked her if she could have our waiter stop by the table. She was able to track him down. With no apology or even really seeming to care, he explained to me that the food came out first come, first serve. I calmly pointed out the three tables next to us-- all who had arrived and ordered well after us-- were served and paying. He said he'd get an update and never came back. At this point, 90 minutes in, we needed to leave. Rather than just walking out, I wanted to let the waiter know so asked once again if the woman who seated us could find our waiter. His only comment was were we going to pay for the salad and one appetizer that had come out in 90 minutes. Stupidly, I said yes. Two tables next to me were stunned at the lack of basic service and professionalism and questioned why I would pay for anything after being treated so poorly. I will say, thank you the the very nice bartender who came from behind the bar to give us water and try and help. But the waiter was the worst I have had and the woman in front seemed to be killing time. Many other great options around Mia's. Unless you enjoy being treated as an inconvenience, avoid Mia's. I have never written a review like this and hope I never have to again. read more

This restaurant is tops in all respects, except yes, it is expensive. But the food is delicious, the menu fantastic, the wait staff so professional. It was a bit loud, it's a fairly small place, but the decor is unusual and very comfortable. Did I mention the food is fantastic? Seriously heavenly. I asked for mine "hot but not that hot" and they got it just right! Having a friendly, professional wait staff that knows what they are doing is such a plus. So nice that it is near Cinemapolis. From the dumplings, calamari, buns, pork shanks, scallops (wow!), panang curry (spicy) to the vindaloo, everything had great flavor. Prices were also generally fair. Nice place. Menu looked good, but service and quality lacking. Would go elsewhere. Too many good choices to put up with a very inconsistent experience. Ordered multiple plates and the delivery was very random. One person received all their dishes while the others didn't get theirs. Some of the dishes were very hot while others were cold. Quality was marginal. Beer was served in a dirty glass. Sent back and no apology or acknowledgement. Waiter and hostess were both serving us which led us to believe that it was the waiters first night. Overall, very average - nothing special. read more

Asian fusion only works if the chef understands the differences between various Asian cuisines. I ordered a Thai chicken curry, which tasted like an Indian curry with a handful of sugar dumped in. The prices are quite high for the area, and the portions are small. Also (echoing Matt on 5/24/13) the meat was cut into oddly large pieces. read more

We've been here twice - once in February 2015 and once in January 2016. Food is always great especially the Lamb and Beef Kofta kebabs and the desserts. The warm cranberry and pistachio tart is the absolute best. During our first visit service was a little slow - apparently the servers had a mix up over who was in charge of our table, but the second time was very quick. I have been here 3 times and the service and food is absolutely wonderful. It's refreshing to dine where there has been a generous amount of thought and creativity put into the preparation of the food. The setting is beautiful, but for me the food is the clincher.
