Based on how popular this spot looked, I was excited to try out this neighborhood spot. Sure, the food was cooked well, but at the same time the whole experience was underwhelming and overpriced. Feels like the restaurant gave more about presentation of the dishes than actual favor. For context, the steak burrito is $27 which I recognize factors like inflation, but I had burritos from street vendors that packed more of a punch. Shoutout to the octopus though, the only dish that blew my mind. Additionally, music was incredibly loud which made having any conversation difficult.

I had had my eye on this place for awhile and finally got a dinner reservation this past weekend. The place is vibrant casual and small with amazing Mexican food and a wide mezcal and other Mexican liquor offerings. For example dessert menu only had a couple desserts but a ton of after dinner drinks/digestifs. We had the guacamole, nopales tacos, cauliflower, and mole. Overall each dish didn't blow me away but was still some of the best Mexican food I've had in awhile. The staff though was freaking amazing from host to wait staff. Like 10/10 I felt treasured. I would definitely come back depending on if it fit the vibe- but idk if it made my chicago favorites.

They had our attention from the moment we walked in with the brightly colored walls and interesting Mexican artsy vibe. Our host and servers were extremely helpful in navigating the menu and were both knowledgeable about the preparation of the entrees. The cocktails were fun and inventive and they offered a variety of non-alcoholic beverages as well which was a nice touch. Every entree we had was tasty and unique, bursting with flavor as we tried to decipher what the ingredients were! We were lucky to find street parking just a few yards away and will definitely go back soon! Definitely check out Mi Tocaya and make reservations, this is a popular spot for locals.

Small space but bustling and vibrant. Some of the best guacamole I've had! The fish tacos were a surprise banger. The cauliflower fundido wasn't quite what I expected, but it was still good. I wish it were cheesier. The drinks are fun and delicious. Went with the horchata dessert, while it was decent, I think the red leches may have been better. I do recommend hitting the up!

Food was bland!! Dessert menu was better!! Not sure why this place gets so many star reviews!! Bland, bland, bland!! Below is my book face post: Deserts were stunning!! The food, meh! If I go back, then only for dessert! Mexican food was underwhelming!! Drinks were ok. Not sure why it gets so many 4 star reviews! People who grew up with bland food really like this restauran though!! Btw, no Mexican rice on the menu!! The last thing the server said was just so weird!! We paid with cash so server said we don't use cash so we don't have cash for change. Told her no change is needed! What restaurant doesn't use cash? This place is all smoke and mirrors!! La C@3*#€£na No Sabe Cocinar !!

Had pretty high expectations for this place but felt it was just okay. We ordered some of the most popular things on the menu, the steak burrito and tres leches cake, which were both really good. But the other dishes were just fine. Overall don't know if it deserves the Michelin shoutout

Squash "elote style" - very good

One of our neighborhood spots that I have never planned far enough ahead to get a reservation at. I'm so glad I finally did. Everything we ate and drank was delicious :- Guacamole - best I've ever had Spaghetti squash elote style - wonderful Aguachile - good but the least special thing we ate. Albondigas de Marisco - lovely Tacos Arabe de Pollo - fantastic Chamorro de Puerco en Mole - best dish of the evening The Margarita and the Chicana cocktails were really tasty and the Mexican sparkling wine was a real treat. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the hostess, she should not be in customer service - a real downer, I need to get better about planning ahead because I want to eat here again, often. Highly recommended

Steak Burrito: 10/10; marinated, grilled skirt steak, quest chihuahua, black beans, romaine, avocado, grilled onion, banana peppers, sour cream. It sounds simple but this was seriously HEAVEN. The house-made sauce had the perfect heat and you could taste every ingredient in every bite. Aguachile: 9/10; Sonoran shrimp, leche de tigre, cítricos, red onion, cucumber, chile chile-in, sweet potato, erico de mar, cilantro. Super fresh and balanced. Kristoffer's Tres Leches: 8.5/10. Not too sweet and with a thin layer of chocolate coating which added a nuttiness. Diana Davila, executive chef and owner of Mi Tocaya, pays homage to the women who have created Mexican cuisine and that is truly on display in every craveble dish on the menu. Truly a gem of a spot. We walked in around 6:00 PM on a Saturday and were able to get seated within 30 minutes

Absolutely incredible time at Mi Tocaya. Everything about this place is truly 5/5. I couldn't have asked for a better spot for date night. Lovely staff who were fun and knowledge about the menu, gorgeous decor inside, and just a great all around vibe. Food: Aquachile de camaron- 5/5, a delicious way to start your meal. Fresh juicy shrimp, tangy lime, and cool cucumber round out this delicious dish Steak burrito- 5/5, honestly this thing is massive and super delicious. The steak on the inside is nice and crispy with a good mix of onions and sauce. Probably one of the better burritos I've had. A must try Frijoles- 5/5, an under sold star of the show. It takes two days to make these and I can see why. Absolutely delicious. Tortillas- 5/5, nothing like a warm and soft real corn tortilla to pile in any good bites. These were delicious and real Drinks: Margarita: 4/5, solid, nothing crazy but a good and easy to drink classic Chicana: 5/5, delicious blend of hibiscus and and tequila Trousseau Gris- 5/5, this place specializes in good organic wines so I thought I'd try. This lovely orange/brief skinned white was delightful. Fruity with notes of watermelon and peach, slight tang, paired well with the burrito

Everything about this place works and makes you want to come back. The authentic friendly welcoming staff that accommodates you. The vibe sitting outside on patio or inside the art deco space. Every food preparation is a work of art and bursts with flavors. Simple starters like chips salsa guacamole or heirloom tomato's are excellent. Main dishes are outstanding. Try the lamb Barbacoa, massive steak burrito and tacos. Staff happy to bring more chips and homemade tortillas. Great drinks. Many tequila choices. Just a must go spot in the hipster Logan Square parkway.

Good food and ambience with attentive staff - overall the dishes were well presented and had intense flavors. It's not typical Mexican but it's not far from the familiar flavors. A lot of care went into the aesthetic and explanation of the food, which was a nice touch and the wait staff made solid recommendations. Overall a wonderful experience and recommend this spot for those looking for an upscale Mexican taste experience in a low key setting.

The food was so fresh! The guacamole was some of the best I have eaten. The service was wonderful and we had a great time. The artwork on the walls is enchanting and the cocktails are sooooo pretty.

Don't know why, but I have a vague recollection that they had 2-3 high chairs in the hallway.

Everything was very good but I especially loved the flautas with the consome. It was absolutely delicious and very unique, I drank the leftover consome because it was that good . Just poor everything in one big bowl . The flautas keep their crisp even when swimming in the broth . I liked the shredded Munster cheese on the jibarito and loved the green sauce . Sooo good!! The cafe has such an interesting set up. You order from what appears to be a food truck, and there is an outdoor (open concept) and indoor seating. We ordered the steak sandwich and ropa vieja plate. The steak sandwich was DELICIOUS. The bread was crispy, and the meat was flavorful and juicy. The sandwich also paired so well with their garlic side sauces. The Ropa vieja was also so insanely yummy. The beef was so juicy and savory. The garlic rice was also so yummy. I'm not a huge fan of plantains, but the plantains were actually pretty decent! You definitely need a reservation after 6:30pm as it got pretty crowded but the bar was empty. The restaurant was not too loud, the tables were very uncomfortable to sit at due to the center of the table being a wooden stump like object. Which made it hard to push your seat in, and the table was wobbly. They also turn the lights off mostly, which actually makes for a great vibe. Other than the uncomfortable seats and tables. They have a lot of drinks, specifically cocktails with unique flavor profiles, using green peppers and corn in drinks. I started with trying the two frozen beverages one was a ginger drink and the other was a sweet milky corn beverage, both unique, not for me. But it was so nice they allowed us to try them. We got the empanada trio (beef, chicken, and veggie). The veggie was very corn forward, almost only corn and some spices. If you love corn you'd love the food and drinks. We also got chorizo arepas which were tasty, but the sliced chorizo didn't seem to match the bite of the arepas. It may have made more sense to have had crumbling chorizo on the arepas. And finally we had the yuca fries, which case with a thick sauce and cojita cheese. They were very good. I asked for a side of hot sauce, it was a mild sauce but it was good. Seemingly homemade. The service was okay, it took a while to get a drink, then to actually get the drink took a long time, and then trying to order and leave took a while. It wasn't a bad experience. This place was featured on the travel network as a must try. If you want to try something new, love corn, definitely recommend.
