I ordered a steak burrito with the Fooda app that my company uses. when I got my burrito it was only rice, lettuce and tomato! I paid for a steak burrito but received a rice burrito! The Fooda App is through my company so I can't make a complaint myself because the account is under the companies credit card and name! Have u ever heard of that saying "do not make rash decisions when u are hungry?" Well this is an example. I was in the area waiting for my car and I saw a taco sign. Well just because u see a taco sign does not mean u have to stop. The decor was average. I love the plants. I was greeted by a young lady who was sitting next to a young guy looking at their phones. She was nice. She came to the table with chips and salsa within 2 minutes. I saw the taco special today, 3 tacos w/rice & beans for $6.95 - not a bad deal. The price was right but where was the flavor. I bit into 3 chips and I felt it would take one or more of my teeth out so I stopped eating them & took tray to server & asked her for another batch. Still no better. They have BYOB. They should advise u 2 bring your own chips, salsa, seasonings. The tacos are an insult to Mexicans. They had no flavor, no seasoning, no life. I was told I could mix it up so I ordered 1 chicken, 1 ground beef and 1 steak. The ground beef was the tastiest of the 3 but it was not that good...Taco Bell would have been a better option; the chicken was so sad - I cried after 1 bite due to the lack of any sign of taste, the steak one I could not chew. It was rubbery, so pathetic. The horchata was sub par - more cinnamon than usual for an horchata. Maybe they never heard of mixing it in but they need to ask somebody. Do I recommend this place?? Tried the al pastor and the chorizo this week. The al pastor needed the side salsas to register, but the meat was tender. The chorizo was the winner of the two, and the amount of grease and oil on both of these made me happy (if you love grease, that is). An honorific in your title is a bold statement for a business, but Mr. Tacos touts a pretty decent product when it comes to Mexican food. They've got a good sized menu with lots of different types of tacos including shrimp and even grilled talapia which is hard to find in Chicago. Meats have lots of flavor and the salsa has some heat if you like the spicy stuff. My only issue is that it's priced a little more sit down than it should be considering the inside of the restaurant is definitely a divey taqueria. You'd really expect them to be open later than they are as well considering the quality that they're serving. If you're in the market for some Mexican delivery I'd definitely do them as it's only a $3 charge, but as far as a sit down date spot which is what it looks like they're going for there's some better options. read more

There aren't too many Mexican delivery places. Well, now that I searched for it specifically, there are more than I expected. So this is the first place I really got delivery from a taqueria. The delivery was quick and they provided plenty of hot sauce, napkins, and all that small stuff. It was just for me so the delivery minimum is kind of inconvenient, but at least theirs is lower than other places; $12 instead of $15. I just ended ordering a couple of extra things which I'll keep for lunch tomorrow. So I had a tostada and a burrito. Both were pretty good. I would recommend it if you don't want to leave your place some evening. The ingredients could have been a little more fresh. I went on a Tuesday evening. The place was empty. I ordered a few tacos and a torta to go, but it took over 15 minutes to make. When I did get them they were smaller than average, and used some weird flour tortilla. On top of that, the meat tasted like it was reheated. My job ordered this, and it was the worst meat I had ever tasted. The chicken was boiled and the steak tasted boiled too. The steak had a musty odor like it had been cooked with no seasoning. I want to keep typing, but what do you have if the meat on the taco is flavorless? Lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese - I'm not a vegetarian. This meat needed to be brined or something. It could be so much better! We live in the neighborhood and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the steak fajitas and my husband ordered chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas were decent but my fajitas tasted like pure oil and the meat didn't look or tasted fresh. I don't want to accuse them of re-heating meat, but that's what it tasted like :( Also the rice came with dry crumbs like when you reheat it from last night... The office ordered from mr tacos today. I got the steak tostada w avocado and the al pastor sope. All places tend to make their sopes differently with some using what amount to a pita bread and others like mr taco using a fried piece of dough. I'll say mr tacos sure knows how to get the sope just right. The tostada is out of this world with the shells actually remaining crispy despite it being delivery. The avocado slices are typically very generous. A recommendation is stick with the green salsa over the red not because the red is bad but because the green is just so good. Fairly solid Mexican food. I've never dined in, but walked past numerous times, and it looks cute inside. Their delivery (to my place at least) has always been sooner than estimated. In fact tonight, I was told an hour. He was at my door with the chow in 15 minutes. Crazy fast. I always get the Taco Chile Relleno. I get my Chile Relleno fix, without committing to a whole dinner. Are theirs the best ever? Not really. They taste like they're made in advance, which might be efficient for them, but it's not proper preparation. Their Poblanos have never been blindingly spicy, which makes me happy. Their Enchiladas are quite good as well. They don't offer combos, but I ask for cheese and ground beef, and they always accommodate. Their Mole Sauce is excellent, although the portions inconsistent. Last time they were kind of stingy so it all soaked into the tortillas. This time, it was swimming in the sauce. A lime Jarritos to wash it down, and I'm a happy gal. Oh, and I also like that they seem to make an effort with presentation. They use nice carryout containers and the food is not just thrown in there. I've stopped eating at places that just carelessly slop the food in a styrofoam container which results in a mess of beans, rice, and entree. It's disgusting. Definitely recommended. Awesome Steak Nachos! I added some Guac to it and it was incredible. Not too greesy, it was just right. The only thing I found odd was I think I caught the girl at the register on her first day.Seemed a bit confused and took a bit to complete my order. That and she gave me more change. It's all good. The food at Mr. Taco is extremely delicious overall! The chorizo tacos are my favorite, although the chicken is really tasty as well. The quesadillas aren't the best, but I think there is something for everyone. So, even if you don't love mexican food, you will probably find something tasty enough here. The reason I rated this place 3 stars is because I have gotten my order wrong probably two or three times so far, and I started going to Mr. Taco fairly recently. The first time the mess up cost me around $3 since they charge for extras. The second time I was given lettuce and tomatoes instead of cilantro and onions (sort of eww but not really a bit deal). Another time I was missing an item when I ordered a delivery. Really delicious, but they should be a little more worried about getting their orders right. I love Mr. Taco's! The chorizo burrito is huge, freshly made and delicious. It has just the right amount of spice or you get get more with the spicy green sauce. They have a bunch of vegetarian options and people are usually friendly. Pretty "authentic" with spanish spoken mostly and menu is more prominent in spanish. Got 3 tacos. Shrimp, lengua and chile relleno. I dug into the relleno first because it is my all time favorite mexican dish. It was awful. It was watery, had way too much batter, and the cheese was absolutely tasteless. It definitely needed salt and maybe some more cilantro and onion. The shrimp were overcooked, but they weren't too bad. The lengua taco was amazing. The tongue tasted like pot roast and was verrrrry melt in your mouth tender. If they can properly make beef tongue, I know they can step up their game with the other tacos. It was a huge let down. The guacamole was just okay. Large chunks of tomato and needed garlic or salt. Orchata was awesome and the delivery time was muy rapido (fast). Minimum order amount though is deadly. $12 worth of Mexican food is a LOT to force one person to order. I couldn't eat half my food and wasted it. And when all said and done with tax, tip, delivery charge...it was $20 to eat 3 tacos. I'll say this about all restaurants that deliver...either you have a minimum order OR a delivery fee...NOT BOTH. That alone tends to prevent me from reordering from places. I'm rating this placed based on what it is--a hole-in-the-wall place in a not-so-ritzy area. On that criteria, it delivers. I've never ordered delivery since it's close enough to walk. The interior is brightly lit, clean and cheerful, although it seems pretty dead on weeknights. We always end up doing takeout. Good selection of sodas (Jarritos, Fanta, Mexican Coke, etc.) and lots of daily specials. Love the $4 Thursday burritos. The burritos come out with a nice char on the outside of the tortilla. I've only had the ground beef, the steak and the chicken, but all were great. Love both the green and red salsas. The red's a little too spicy for my white ass, but it's great for every other bite. Last night we decided to explore our new neighborhood, grab some to-go menus from nearby restaurants, and pick some yummy Mexican food. Since there are a gazillion spots near us, we randomly chose Mr. Taco's. We ordered from the incredibly sweet server, and waited for our tasty treats. Let me just mention that the decor is not something I associate with a Mexican Restaurant. It had a trendy brunch hot spot feel, which threw me off. I kind of thought that our food might be wind up being generic Americanized Mexican...but I was happy to say that everything was really good! The steak tacos were fresh and tasty (although we've had better corn tortillas) and the steak enchiladas con mole were TASTEE! My boyfriend disagreed...the mole was a bit to spicy for him, and he wanted a little more cheese. The rice and beans were pretty average, but I was more interested in the mole :) In general the prices were good, the food was good, and the service was good...but I wasn't blown away by any of it. We'll be back to try their breakfast and probably take advantage of BYOB on a evening, but maybe not for a little while. Their new location is cleaner and spruced up but my only complaint would be that the food takes a bit longer now. However, their sopes are still the best in Chicago! There are SO many crummy Mexican restaurants in Chicago. This isn't one of them. The meat was fantastic. I had the picadillo burrto, and my girlfriend had chorizo y papa gordita and a carne asada taco. This is one of the few restaurants that actually trims the fat off of their carne asada. Probably the worst Mexican restaurant on Chicago Ave. The food is mediocre, the restroom is in the kitchen, and the promotions have all sorts of rules (one salsa per item). But the worst thing is the service. Go in and order 1 item to go - you're looking at a 15 minute wait for your food to come up. Forget Mr. Taco... go down the street to Taco Veloz for a much better night. In fact, you could walk into Mr. Taco, order food, walk to Taco Veloz, order food there, wait for the Taco Veloz food, walk back up to Mr. Taco and still have to wait longer for your Mr. Taco order. I have to say that the tacos at Mr. Taco's Restaurant lived up to the name and may have exceeded it. On the basis of the food alone, I would put this as one of my favorite mexican places. Unfortunately, Mr. Taco's stumbles on a few key points... Given the name, I tried the al pastor and carnitas tacos -- both were well seasoned and tender. They stick to the clean and simple flavors -- meat, onion, cilantro. No frills about it, but they execute very well on the basics. The wait staff at Mr. Taco's could use some work. The servers are friendly enough, but were a bit inattentive given how few other tables were full. Mr. Taco's ambiance reminds me of a taco stand inside a faux modern restaurant -- picture garish Mexican stereotypical regalia on a backdrop of exposed steel conduits and Martha Stewart paint tones. While I love taco stands as much as the next guy, this place needs to go one way or another -- taco stand or restaurant. Up or out, Mr. Taco. read more

Finally! Tasty Mexican food (with no gross-out factor) via swift delivery. Very pleased. We had gorditas (seriously yum!), tacos and tostadas. All were delicious. Al Pastor was my favorite protein, but the steak and chicken were flavorful and tasty too. There was a small error with my order (fresh avocado was sent instead of guac, no great loss all things considered!) but Francisco the owner credited my card back and...wait for it...sincerely apologized for the mistake. The guac was bangin, but a little pricy for the size. Tortillas are the real deal, they tasted like grandma was in the kitchen pattin the corn. Orchata was delicious. Okay, so I ordered a sausage breakfast burrito, a chicken quesadilla and a steak taco. Don't judge me; there's a $10 minimum for delivery. The breakfast burrito was almost excellent. According to their menu on Delivery.com, the breakfast burrito is a "flour tortilla filled with eggs, choice of sausage, chorizo, bacon or ham and choice of mozzarella, American or cheddar cheese." What there isn't a mention of is the potatoes that the thing comes stuffed with. That's a big no-no in my book but is only a 1/2 star reduction. Other than that no complaints on the burrito. Though I do reserve the right to edit this review the next time I order one, without the potatoes of course. The chicken in the chicken quesadilla was tasty, that's a fact. However, the quesadilla is more like a very cheesy taco. If you read the menu, the description for a regular burrito says that they are "stuffed with beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream." The description for their tortas says that the beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream are all on the inside. For the quesadilla, the menu simply says they are "served with lettuce, tomato and sour cream." To be honest I took "served with" to not mean "stuffed with." Quesadillas made like this really aren't my thing so I doubt I'd order another one but if you like, or do not mind, all of the accoutrements then this may be just right for you. Given that the chicken was mighty tasty and this really boils down to a misunderstanding of the menu, I only docked them another 1/2 star. You'll notice that I deducted three stars from Mr Taco's Restaurant yet the deductions for the first two items only adds up to a one star deduction, which means I took an entire two stars off for the third and final item; the steak taco. Not to be too disparaging but I have had better tasting tacos from street vendors in Tijuana. I would never order a steak anything from Mr Taco's Restaurant. Ever. I am serious, you've been warned. I grew up on Carne Asada burritos, tacos, quesadillas, fries and everything else in between. Never have I ever had a steak taco that tasted that bad. In all fairness, it could just be the batch of steak that Mr Taco's Restaurant got from their supplier but I'm not willing to subject my taste buds or my stomach to another steak anything from here to find out, which is why I deducted two whole stars for one single menu item. read more
