It's decent Mexican food, and by that, I mean it's a notch up from the Ixtapa across the highway. It's not worth what they're charging for it, though. At their prices, I'd expect it to be as good as, say, Agua Verde or Cocina y Cantina in Seattle, and...it just ain't. Recently stopped in for some takeout. I used to come here every couple of months or so, before the Plague. Tacos al Carbon was among my favorites. And it always came with rice and a cup of whole beans sprinkled with cotija cheese. Not anymore; three tacos arrive a la carte, with a single slice of avocado (I recall there being at least one slice per taco, maybe even a little fanned wedge of avocado slices, in the before times), for $13. The asada meat was salty, dry and jerky-esque, though it did have some garlic and chili flavor. Also ordered a small chicken enchiladas verdes combo. Small combos are one item, for $13, but this does include very ordinary rice and ordinary refried beans, plus a spoonful of coleslaw. The shredded chicken breast in the little enchilada was as dry and flavorless as the shoe that Charlie Chaplin ate in "The Gold Rush." The tortilla might have been dipped in tomatillo salsa Verde, but they must have wrung out the last drop of sauce before filling the enchilada, for there was hardly a trace of sauce anywhere in the container. Just dry chicken, a greenish corn tortilla, and a lot of jack cheese. Out of curiosity, I checked to see how much it would have cost me to add the cup of beans and rice that used to come with Tacos al Carbon. Most of places between Steven Pass and Seattle are closed around 9-9:30pm, and we were glad to have found here. The restaurant is pretty spacious, very cleaning and welcome. It wasn't busy when we got there and our waitress was very friendly. Their drink menu is extensive, we had mint mango margarita and mi tierra rita and loved both. Food wise, we had ceviche, steak fajitas and campechana, loved all of them but I especially loved campechana (tomato soup base with shrimp and octopus) as I never had it before and I was wowed by the broth, definitely getting it again! The food is good. Overpriced, but not bad. Service was horribly slow. If you're like me, you like the server to keep your water and wine glass full. Both sat empty for a long time with the server walking by several times without asking how we were doing. Brought the bill without asking if we wanted anything else. They lost out on additional sales from us tonight. Fast to get you seated and take your money after, but no service in between. There weren't a lot of customers with what appeared to be ample staff (many standing around). There are plenty of Mexican food restaurants in the area with outstanding food, better prices, and great service. Definitely won't be returning to Mi Tierra. read more

Horrible Service, came in to enjoy a nice father's day meal and got the complete opposite of that. We found hair in 2 different courses. There's more hair in the food then the bathroom. I don't come to Monroe ever. But I had to run a few errands and was hungry while in the middle of nowhere. I had read the reviews and figured I couldn't go wrong by testing this place out. The location on the outside is nothing special, but the inside is large and their bar area has a beautiful design to it. The tables are a bit cramped considering how much space they have. But they thankfully can be moved quite easily. Very large menu, a bit pricey for the area. But the items we ordered were pretty good. I got the crab enchiladas ($16.95) and it came with a hearty portion of beans and rice. I usually never eat beans rice at Mexican restaurants, the beans were tasty! Nice Mexican restaurant in Monroe! Decent sized parking lot that is shared with a few other businesses, and I believe I saw a sign for "additional parking below" The interior is bright, welcoming and open. I was promptly seated at lunch time with chips, salsa and water immediately. I hadn't been here so I need a few minutes to look over the menu. My server was not pushy or overbearing and allowed me time to browse before making a decision. The lunch menu was very reasonably priced with lots of options for a meal at a discounted price tag. I settled on the chicken fajitas. It was plenty of food for one sitting. Served with rice, beans, sour cream, and guac. Fresh guacamole, well seasoned rice and beans. The chicken was flavorful and tender and the veggies were grilled really nicely. They use a lot of spices so this is a more "saucy" version of fajitas. Overall I would definitely recommend this place if in Monroe and looking for an easy, quick, delicious and cost effective lunch! read more

Wah-wah. Such a let down. We brought our family of 5 here for lunch on Saturday. Ample parking and seating but the food was just not good. I ordered camarones a la diabla and the shrimp were full of water when I bit into them. Maybe not thawed all the way before cooking? No idea how that happens. The sauce was spicy but that was it. No depth of flavor. My husband ordered a chimichanga and a tamale and said it was just ok. Head not impressed either. The only people in our party who enjoyed their food was the kids (all under 10). But when a Mexican restaurant's best dishes are chicken nuggets and fries, that's not a compliment. Salsa is non-water contaminated, and tomato choices are competitively italian with exploding flavors and a fine balance of spice for repeated chip consumption. Steak fajitas were combined with vegstables not leisurely consumed for a fine balance meal. Mi world was complete as Mi meal sent the body for a sleepy collapse. I have eaten here a few times over the years but service, and especially food quality, seem to have degraded quite a bit. Starting with the basics of chips and salsa, the chips came out lukewarm, cooler then one would expect or what I've experienced in the past, and the salsa tasted stale and was watery. Then I ordered the seafood enchiladas, and they came out soggy, the shrimp were mushy, and the shredded cheese on top was not even fully melted. The enchilada itself was lukewarm as were the bland refried beans and rice. I'm guessing the enchiladas were made a few days ago and these were poor reheats on them. I'd eaten at the Woodinville location and enjoyed it thoroughy. My buddy just moved to the neighborhood, so we kicked off his new chapter here. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, but were disappointed with the service and portion. For me, the Carne Asada, was close to half the size I would expect at any other restaurant and my buddies burrito was also close to half the size as the traditional Macho Burrito. They brought a basket of chips that wasn't even full, and we had to wait too long for a refill. The salsa was never refilled and we sat with our glasses empty for mot of the visit as well. The food was an "A", but the value, portion and service were all a fail. Rice and beans are cheap, so if you don't service a full plate, you are cheap, stingy and not worthy of my hard earned dollar. read more

Everyone is on! Our server, the serving assistant, one of the bar staff (he was the person who originally checked if we'd like something to drink in addition to our waters, but continued to check on our waters also). Pretty good food. I wouldn't necessarily rave about it, but if I knew someone was going to be in the area, I would most likely suggest it as an option.
