Most of places between Steven Pass and Seattle are closed around 9-9:30pm, and we were glad to have found here. The restaurant is pretty spacious, very cleaning and welcome. It wasn't busy when we got there and our waitress was very friendly. Their drink menu is extensive, we had mint mango margarita and mi tierra rita and loved both. Food wise, we had ceviche, steak fajitas and campechana, loved all of them but I especially loved campechana (tomato soup base with shrimp and octopus) as I never had it before and I was wowed by the broth, definitely getting it again! The food is good. Overpriced, but not bad. Service was horribly slow. If you're like me, you like the server to keep your water and wine glass full. Both sat empty for a long time with the server walking by several times without asking how we were doing. Brought the bill without asking if we wanted anything else. They lost out on additional sales from us tonight. Fast to get you seated and take your money after, but no service in between. There weren't a lot of customers with what appeared to be ample staff (many standing around). There are plenty of Mexican food restaurants in the area with outstanding food, better prices, and great service. Definitely won't be returning to Mi Tierra. read more

I don't come to Monroe ever. But I had to run a few errands and was hungry while in the middle of nowhere. I had read the reviews and figured I couldn't go wrong by testing this place out. The location on the outside is nothing special, but the inside is large and their bar area has a beautiful design to it. The tables are a bit cramped considering how much space they have. But they thankfully can be moved quite easily. Very large menu, a bit pricey for the area. But the items we ordered were pretty good. I got the crab enchiladas ($16.95) and it came with a hearty portion of beans and rice. I usually never eat beans rice at Mexican restaurants, the beans were tasty! Nice Mexican restaurant in Monroe! Decent sized parking lot that is shared with a few other businesses, and I believe I saw a sign for "additional parking below" The interior is bright, welcoming and open. I was promptly seated at lunch time with chips, salsa and water immediately. I hadn't been here so I need a few minutes to look over the menu. My server was not pushy or overbearing and allowed me time to browse before making a decision. The lunch menu was very reasonably priced with lots of options for a meal at a discounted price tag. I settled on the chicken fajitas. It was plenty of food for one sitting. Served with rice, beans, sour cream, and guac. Fresh guacamole, well seasoned rice and beans. The chicken was flavorful and tender and the veggies were grilled really nicely. They use a lot of spices so this is a more "saucy" version of fajitas. Overall I would definitely recommend this place if in Monroe and looking for an easy, quick, delicious and cost effective lunch! read more

Wah-wah. Such a let down. We brought our family of 5 here for lunch on Saturday. Ample parking and seating but the food was just not good. I ordered camarones a la diabla and the shrimp were full of water when I bit into them. Maybe not thawed all the way before cooking? No idea how that happens. The sauce was spicy but that was it. No depth of flavor. My husband ordered a chimichanga and a tamale and said it was just ok. Head not impressed either. The only people in our party who enjoyed their food was the kids (all under 10). But when a Mexican restaurant's best dishes are chicken nuggets and fries, that's not a compliment. I gave 3 stars because the servers were really nice and the restaurant itself was clean and nicely decorated. read more

Mi meal served to Mi preferences. A return to the great Mexi-territory, Mi Tierra succeeds with top category meals. Salsa is non-water contaminated, and tomato choices are competitively italian with exploding flavors and a fine balance of spice for repeated chip consumption. Steak fajitas were combined with vegstables not leisurely consumed for a fine balance meal. Mi world was complete as Mi meal sent the body for a sleepy collapse. Cuisines with knockout powers often signifies a well placed meal with holding powers to quite down the echos chambers bringing down the belly beasts until the next awakening. read more

I have eaten here a few times over the years but service, and especially food quality, seem to have degraded quite a bit. Starting with the basics of chips and salsa, the chips came out lukewarm, cooler then one would expect or what I've experienced in the past, and the salsa tasted stale and was watery. Then I ordered the seafood enchiladas, and they came out soggy, the shrimp were mushy, and the shredded cheese on top was not even fully melted. The enchilada itself was lukewarm as were the bland refried beans and rice. I'm guessing the enchiladas were made a few days ago and these were poor reheats on them. Disappointed with this visit, it'll be awhile before I tried them again. read more

I'd eaten at the Woodinville location and enjoyed it thoroughy. My buddy just moved to the neighborhood, so we kicked off his new chapter here. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, but were disappointed with the service and portion. For me, the Carne Asada, was close to half the size I would expect at any other restaurant and my buddies burrito was also close to half the size as the traditional Macho Burrito. They brought a basket of chips that wasn't even full, and we had to wait too long for a refill. The salsa was never refilled and we sat with our glasses empty for mot of the visit as well. The food was an "A", but the value, portion and service were all a fail. Rice and beans are cheap, so if you don't service a full plate, you are cheap, stingy and not worthy of my hard earned dollar. read more

Rock solid place on the bustling thoroughfare that is Highway 2. Easy access as you traverse the span between you and the mountains, whatever your destination might be. Prices are good, service is fast, friendly, and efficient. The menu's pretty thorough, a lot of traditional americanized favorites and quite a few that seem more traditional to actual Mexico...for a change of pace (around here). There's a whole page of those dishes, and that's probably the page for the more adventurous eater. There's a whole fried fish there, which includes the immortal line on an otherwise very straight-laced and matter-of-fact menu: Whole fried fish. Yes, like at the beach." I think they must have had enough skeptical questions about that one that they finally just had to do something, because it's not a menu given over to merry quips. By and large, these larger mexican places can run together a little bit, and they really need to put in the hours and the sweat to stand out from the run of the mill. This place isn't quite unusual enough in its decor or other aspects of its presentation to seem like a complete gem, but the food is pretty exceptional. Good Authentic Mexican (if you order off of the right menu), great service and good prices in a convenient location in the middle of Monroe, right on State Route 2 for those passing through. Here's what you need to know about Mi Tierra: FOOD: Very large menu of Americanized Mexican, with one page of serious hardcore Mexican. Nothing noteworthy on the Americanized menu, just the standard fare you would find at any other Americanized Mexican restaurant (Fajitas, Enchiladas, Burritos, Tacos, various Carne, Pollo, Mariscos dishes). Mostly bleh, although the Dungeness Crab Enchilada was pretty decent. The serious hardcore Mexican page though contains such items as Nopales con Chorizo, Campechana, Pescado Frito, Cazuelada, Birria, Sopitos De Carne Asada, and more (any of these makes for serious drinking food, and the Nopales con Chorizo (Chorizo sausage, pork, eggs, cactus, rice and beans) and Birria (Beef Flap in a tomato based stew) makes for some of the best hangover food, if you're a lush and are hung over already by lunchtime. The Pescado Frito is a whole Tilapia, fried (just like they do at the beach), served with onions, tomato, avocado and rice - and is one of my favorite Mexican dishes. Mi Tierra also gives you a large bowl of Tortilla chips and salsa, like most Mexican restaurants. Their beer is cheap, I had a 24oz mug of Dos Equis XX for $4.95. They also have Horchata, which is awesome. PARKING: Can get tight, especially around mealtime. There are only a few spaces in front of the restaurant, shared with other businesses. You may have to walk for a bit. ORDERING/ SEATING: Host seats you, you order off of the menu, they serve you. There are three seating areas: The main room, the bar, and upstairs. All in total, the restaurant seats 250. Booths line the edge of the main room, with large windows. Tables of two and four in the center of the room. Lead time is relatively fast, about 15 minutes. SERVICE: Everyone speaks English perfectly well. Hosts and servers are all friendly, and will go and take care of things for you even if it's not their assigned service role. My server was almost too much, checking on me too often; which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I wanted to relax with my beer and take my time after a long day at work. Once I got my food, I didn't feel rushed though. The staff will answer questions at length for you, and if they don't know they will find out. ATMOSPHERE: Like a typical Americanized Mexican restaurant, portraying what Americans think Mexico is all about. Live entertainment at times. This place can get pretty loud, but dining early, it's a comfortable volume. Good mix of families and groups. COST/ VALUE: Cost is really what you make it here. You can eat very cheap here, about $7 or so; or you can go all out. It really depends on what you order. Most entrees are between $12 and $15. Decent value, you get what you pay for. VERDICT: 3.5/5 - I'm not quite sure why, because all the elements were right... but I can't find myself scoring Mi Tierra a 4. 3.5, sure. Mexican is difficult for me -- having exposure to really really really good Mexican has ruined my casual experience eating around. If you're from California, you will probably not like Mi Tierra. If you're from anywhere else, you'll probably like it just fine. Unfortunately, I am from the former. Well done though, especially for Monroe. read more
