I've been here a couple times before. And I wasn't impressed. But somebody said, "Oh it's gotten better," so I went. Again I walked in with prejudice. There is parking, and they did seat this promptly. The server was kind, patient and thorough. And then the food got there, and that's when I really had to eat crow because the food was really good. Fajita burrito. I cleaned the plate. Puerto grande. I wasn't expecting it to be good. I was expecting to be, you know, lame. But it was good. It's the only large room in Monroe, and it's decorated in bright colors. Our table was right on the lake, which happened to be flooded that week also. A group of us stopped here after a movie for Margaritas. It was the closest place that looked like it had great potential. The deck off the back of the restaurant was fantastic, I just wished anything would have matched that energy. We ordered 2 jalapeno Margaritas, and 2 "fresh natural" margaritas. They brought out chips and salsa and beans to us following our orders. The salsa I am not sure how it qualify as salsa. It was more like a can of stewed tomatoes. No spice, no flavor. The beans were the same. Plain, nothing to them. While fajitas had been walked by many times we opted not to get food. After letting the server know we were not ordering food, I believe the manager came over to ask if everything was ok. We were like yeah, we just came by for drinks. Both the server and the manager seemed annoyed after that. After receiving our drinks they were to be nice, just plain disappointing. Jalapeño margaritas are my drink of choice and this one fell well short of the mark. There were jalapeños in it, but there was zero spice and a very strong flavor of just the margarita mix. My wife enjoyed her fresh margarita, but upon receiving the bill the fresh margarita was a $4 add on for the fresh lime juice? $65 for 4 margaritas in pounder glasses. Maybe it's because they were not good that I find that as steep. Thanks Monroe El Paraiso, we won't be back. My friends had burritos and they seemed happy even mentioned they want to come back in the summer and sit on the deck and have another lunch get together As for me, I had the fish tacos, lunch special and not so happy! Nice presentation, beans and rice were good, but the fish tacos not so much, soggy couldn't pick up the corn tortilla without it falling apart. Flavor was OK but nothing great. I've been to this location, a few times. Their drinks are strong, but that's really the only good thing here, especially when all of the other El Paraiso locations serve up such delicious food! This last time, I think our server was OVER IT, it's like he wanted to get away from us, as fast as possible. He'd seem disinterested and miss a few drinks orders. Needed to find a place for a late lunch and the ACLS game number 5 just started. We were glad the bar area was big and they have so many big screens for every patron to have a great view and audio of the game. The atmosphere was very welcoming with lots of natural lighting and the lake in the background with lots of customers coming and going. The waiter and busboy were very prompt and checked on us. I also enjoyed the homemade tortilla snack at the entry way. The sweet lady asked if you want salsa and rolled up the warm tortilla in paper as a hand held snack as you get situated. I wouldn't mind having 10 more they were yummy. The chips, salsa, and bean dip were delish and plentiful and the busboy was glad to offer a refill. Enjoyed the happy hour bar food offering it's offered every day I believe from 3-5 or 3-6 for $2 off the listed price. I had 2 big fish tacos for $8.95 as an app but it may as well be my meal. So fresh! The large chicken tortilla soup for $16.95 was loaded with grilled chicken ... perfect for a chilly day. I liked the avocados and the good flavor of the soup. We liked it was not an overpowering flavor. The broth tasted very natural and homey. My hubby enjoyed his enchilada meal. I had a reservation for last Saturday in the banquet room. We get there and the banquet room was full. They sat us somewhere else twice and the service was not great. Things that could be improved. Take a phone number and name when taking reservations so you can call if you get over booked. That would have at least give me the options to change the date or choose somewhere else. When a customer is trying to make eye contact with you because they want or need something you should acknowledge the customer by saying something like, "I'll be right with you" What happened was we would make eye contact and then she would instantly look away as if she never saw me at all. This one is a hometown favorite. Situated in the bottom of a office building, you might drive by it and not give it a try. That would be to your payroll and I recommend you stop in and give them a look. The restaurant overlooks a lake and pastor Scene, quite spectacular on days with good sunsets. You'll be greeted most of the time with a freshly made tortilla just for you with butter and other accompaniments while you wait. But you won't wait long because the service is great and they will see you as fast as possible. The menu is impressive, the food is top-notch, and be sure to give them margaritas a try :-)my only regret is I can't eat here more often than we already do. read more

The owner denied me entry to his restaurant because of my service dog. He didn't allow any accommodation. His service manager stated I had too much time on my hands and should get married and have kids when I called in later to gather names to file a formal complaint. We came in as a party of four at 5:30 on Tuesday night. The first thing I saw walking in was a wonderful lady who was making fresh tortillas with sauce and butter. We got one and should have gotten more, she was a delight and they were so good! We came in for some margaritas, chips and nachos! We liked their house salsa and bean dip a lot! Their nachos were wonderful too-they had a LOT of cheese on them. We didn't order any meat on our nachos this round, but we enjoyed them very much. I really wanted to try their house hot sauce, but didn't get a chance :( I had the Infused 'Rita- I was in the mood for a Margarita with some spice and kick! This Margarita was okay-I loved the Tajin rim, but I think this one was a little too sweet for me. I was excited for the jalapeño and cilantro. The jalapeño was faint and I didn't taste any cilantro. I think if this Margarita was tweaked, then it would be really good. It could be spicier and way less sweet. I like the elements of this margarita but not the balance. The man who sat us at our table, the guy who brought our chips/salsa/beans, and Juan, our server, were all extremely nice. Made us feel very welcomed. We started with perfect margaritas. They were perfect! Lol. For our second drinks I ordered the mango tarjin margarita (blended) and my husband ordered a jalapeño infused margarita. Both were different AND delicious. We would reorder them. I ordered a cup of chicken tortilla soup. The cup is more like a bowl FYI. Great broth. Excellent ingredients. Tasted great. Thinking the soup was not as big I also ordered chicken fajitas. They were good. My husband ordered the Chorizo Burrito. He ate almost the whole thing and it was a large portion. I had SO much food left over it filled an entire to-go box. I'll probably skip the soup next time. Summer on the patio is the best time to come. I find the food is just average at best. The staff is friendly and accommodating which goes a long way when we are considering a place to eat. We've been here several times and tried many dished, the green salsa is hot and tasty, I put it on everything no matter what we get. If you are looking for that fresh authentic Mexican food this would not be my first choice but if you looking to come hang out and be comfortable El Parasio is a good spot. read more

I was recommended by a Monroe local and her Mexican husband to hit this joint, and maybe we were all way too exhausted to really appreciate it, but I found it to be just okay. The service was great, the restaurant roomy and a little bit dark, not quite sexy dark but ambience dark. The food wasn't bad by any means, but it also wasn't memorable, it wasn't like I left thinking "I can't wait to go back." Everything is fresh. If you like shrimp then the ceviche is a must! That was split between 3 people and we still had a little extra. I ordered extra chips and salsa, which I still have leftovers for my daily snack. My mom ordered pollo a la diablo with no cheese and it was more than enough for her. She had some to share. Chips and salsa of course, chips are not the thin ones they are thicker and made there, salsa was fresh and not too spicy. We started with the ceviche with shrimp and it was delicious. The picture doesn't look great but it was good , with tons of large shrimp ( I think they were prawns) and avocado sliced over the top. Entree was the 2 chimichanga plate dinner. Made with homemade (at the front of the restaurant she was making them) tortillas and deep fried perfectly. Chicken inside was huge chunks of tender juicy meat nicely seasoned. Rice & beans were tasty but needed a bit of salt. Our server was pleasant as well. If it wouldn't have been raining we could have sat outside with the beautiful view. read more

My wife and I met our friends at this location for drinks and dinner. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Quality food and service can always be expected at any El Paraiso location. This location didn't disappoint. Happy Hour is offered daily in the lounge from 3pm-6pm then again from 9pm-close. On Monday's, crunchy chicken or ground beef tacos are $0.99 each in the lounge from 4pm-close. This location is a bit more upscale than the other locations; however, there are still a couple large flat screen TV's mounted in the lounge. Complimentary chips, salsa and beans are offered to munch on while exploring the menu. My wife and I each had a couple pints of Dos Equis for $3.95 each (hh). We each also had a couple crunchy ground beef tacos for $0.99 each (Monday). Plentiful seasoned ground beef, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato. I love tacos. When you go to any restaurant, you go for the food. El Paraiso definitely doesn't disappoint! I am relatively new to the area (only 1 year) but I have made several trips to El Paraiso, and I have nothing but praise for all aspects. Being on the water lends a pleasant ambiance, and having a top notch staff and chef certainly makes a visit worthwhile. My last time there for dinner, we were seated quickly for a party of 8 adults and a toddler. The waiter was amazing, took our orders and served our meals without a single flaw or miscue! Most impressive. Being one from the more tropical parts of the country, I was intrigued by the guava margarita and he graciously brought me a small trial size amount, leading to my immediate order for a grown-up size drink! I highly recommend the restaurant, and give that guava margarita a try! I will add that guava is an acquired taste (I even love them raw!) read more
