Came here with my family for my father's birthday party. The food was delicious. The restaurant is very big and they have some nice spots to take some really cool photos. The service was great. The servers came out with a tray of pastry's that said happy birthday and had two sparklers on the sides. They sang happy birthday and they also had Mariachi's that day.

The steak just needed seasoning but everything else was great. We will return

A retirement party and we had an awesome time!

I mean I do recommend it but it's a bit pricey. Nonetheless, it's still worth it when it comes to celebrating milestones. We came to celebrate my boss and her retirement. And it didn't disappoint. The service was of course amazing, and they were so attentive. That is something that I can appreciate. THe waitress we were assigned was so attentive and although her english was a little bit broken, it was fine as she understood exactly what we wanted and the reason we were there, this gave her ample ammo to get a little celebration with the others to surprise my boss with a nice serenada. Includng giving her a Mexican hat to wear and as a keepsake. Its those little details that mean so much. To start we had to let her know that we had around 16 people here, and that it would have to be a way to split the checks. Her suggestion was to split the tables into 4 parties, and it would make it easier. Of course, in the end it worked out perfectly and everyone was happy and content. The appetizers were amazing, and the quac was exactly what we needed to start off this amazing night. A few cocktails later and everyone was happy! The cocktails are seriously good and again a little pricey but for what you get, its totally worth it. Food also didn't disappoint at all. Extremely fresh and if you are Latin, and have been to my grannies house back in the day, this is close to her home cooking as you can get! Don't play with me! For a big party this is the place to go to, not to mention the connected parking. You won't be disappointed in the least!

We came here for my mom's birthday. They're really good at attending large groups. My family has 15 adults and 4 children. They had no problem seating all of us. The food was good. I had the chilaquiles con cecina and a chocolate martini.

Overall really nice spot! Service lacks, n A LOT! Our server came maybe once n only because we called for her. Desserts were PHENOMENAL But our trio fajita could have used a lot more flavor!

Been wanting to check Mi Tierra out for a while. The exterior is very attractive and welcoming. We decided to come here before the Mexican Independence Day parade, and was really shocked to see this place pretty empty on a such a big day. We were able to get seated right away, they brought us chips and salsa at the beginning, but it took forever to get our order in. They kept going back and forth to certain tables while we were being ignored. No bueno...I did figure out towards the end why they were giving special attention to those certain tables. They were local positions. In a way I kind of understand. They were going to part of the parade, and obviously had to get them going, but you should be able to figure out how to take care of the regular customers as well. Some restaurants close the business for bigger events like this, I would definitely recommend going that route for them next time. Fortunately for them, the food was really good. The chips and salsa were really tasty. The salsa tasted freshly made and had really good flavor. I ordered their chilaquiles verdes and my wife ordered their chilaquiles w/ ranchera sauce. The dishes came out very quickly but they brought out two chilaquiles verdes. So we retuned one and had to wait a tad bit longer for the ranchera chilaquiles to be made. Turns out they use the same salsa that's used for the chips and salsa for their ranchera chilaquiles. They were both still pretty delicious. It came with fried eggs, and refried beans. The chilaquiles were crispy and topped with cilantro and sour cream. Overall I had a mediocre experience and I'm not exactly sure if I'd ever return. There's plenty of options on the 26th and surround area that I'd rather go back to before choosing this place again.

We came here for lunch with a group of friends. The food was delicious, dessert was amazing and very nice presented. Service was great, the place is clean and very well organised. We had a good experience and definitely will be back in the future.

Every single time I drove passed I looked at it, wondering what its prices and food were like. The preparation for an initial visit came prior to headed to Lawndale Christian Fitness Center because the restaurant sits enroute back to my apartment in the neighboring neighborhood. And with the restaurant being a bookmark of mine for nearly a year I figured it was time to finally visit. Now, the parking lot is shared at this restaurant, but it has well enough parking spots available on any part of Lawndale Plaza, the property where it sits. The interior of this restaurant made me think of a fish dock the way it is decorated with its painted, old, run down wooden wall and door appearance. Totally in sync with a name like Fisherman's Island. Now, other than its decorative - fish dock style interior, this restaurant has the bullet proof window shielding the employee which is not just this restaurant, but its neighboring restaurants, too. That alone gives me an idea of what kind of customers these restaurants serve. I got a chance to see a little bit of that firsthand because during my visit, one of the customers tried to steal a bottle of water then showed attitude once she was caught in the act. Another customer even went to the point of questioning the employee on why she was charged extra which most likely was tax, as we all are charged. After contemplating between either the tilapia, the catfish, and the whiting I ordered the tilapia which the sizes come in either 1/2 pound or 1 pound. Once I ordered I noted that all platters come with 3 sides: broccoli, corn and potatoes which is not that bad of a meal for its price listed. I did love that they wrapped my order inside of saran wrap which prevented any leakage. But once I opened it up, it was pure heaven because it smelt lovely! Ah, the wonderful smell of seasoned tilapia combined with broccoli. Waiting on my order I noted that most customers pre-ordered which I imagine eliminates the possibility of a long wait which really wasn't that bad for me. My food actually was completed in a appropriate time frame, but ordering again I would probably pre-order being that I live a little over one mile away. Pre-ordering would eliminate me from having to sit on that window sill again because my ass was hurting during my wait. The only thing in the dining area was a shelf stocked with canned goods, a cooler with drinks, and a trash receptacle for whatever known reason. With that I observed, it is obviously a takeout restaurant which probably stems from past incidents with customers and reason why that bullet proof window is plastered up shielding the employee. I'm just going to end it right here and say look no further if you are browsing through other reviews because this review is all you need to see. Other than my ass hurting from sitting on that window sill, I have no complaints about the overall service. I enjoyed the food and would gladly order from Fisherman's Island again; possibly regularly. If I knew how much I missed I would have visited a lot sooner, but better now than never. Wouldn't you agree? ~Blessings~ Thomas G

I try to explore two or three different neighborhoods per week, and today traveled to Little Village (from my place in Edgewater). This was my first trip to el barrio since the last time I had just duty at 26th and Cal, about four years ago. By 11 a.m. or so I was hungry and ended up visiting El Tecolote. As soon as I walked in I realized I'd been there before, back in 2018 or 2019 when I was Uber-driving between jobs. That's so long ago that I don't have specific memories. I just remember that I liked El Tecolote a lot! Today I liked it a lot, too! I had juevos rancheros, which were wonderful. The dish consisted of sunny-side up eggs that were nice and runny, just the way I like them. In my experience, restaurants tend to overcook sunny-side up eggs these days. Is that due to people getting sick and filing lawsuits? I don't know, but I hate overcooked eggs, and I thank señora for nice and runny eggs! The red rancheros sauce was delicious and had lots of bell peppers. Also a side of rice and creamy refried beans, plus some excellent, hot corn tortillas. And some very tasty tortilla chips. More than anything else, this breakfast tasted like . . . Mexico. I went to Isla Mujeras four times in the 90s, and today's meal brought me back to those happy trips. Two TVs near the front door were tuned to the same news show, and later the same soap opera. Although I don't speak Spanish, I enjoyed checking out the news and could easily figure out the top story, of course. And I was able to see that Spanish-language soap operas have the same over-acting as their English counterparts! Muchos gracias!
