We came to Pito's after having gone to La Gran Parada. I figured I'd try it since Yelp reviewers…read morewere comparing them. I liked them both. I thought the food was comparable. The main differences were; 1. While they are both cafeteria style, Pito's is a lot less crowded (mainly because they are a lot faster) 2. La Gran Parada has been remodeled and has a nice and big dining room. Pito's is more like a shabby little pizza joint 3. Pito's is cheaper (although they are both cheap). Ox tails in particular were cheaper. 4. La Gran Parada has more choices 5 Pito's only has street parking I think We tried the ox tails (rabo), pig's ears, stewed chicken and fried bananas with both white and yellow rice. It was all very good. Pig's ears is an acquired taste (actually more of an acquired texture as the sauce is what gives it taste). It is "blubbery" like tripe but can also be a bit grissly. It's definitely different but I liked it-maybe not enough to order it again though. Next time I want to try the chicharron which I love and compare it with La Gran Parada which was very good.

Once again they are a bit stingy for the meat to rice ratio but was still good. **Note: only place I have been able to get wasakaka sauce which I love to have with fried meats. You get a small side cup for .50. They need to fill it up more tho as it's only 1/3 full. Love the flavor on it, it's citrus-y, vinegar-y, salty and just adds some more bang to the flavors!

While the menu doesn't really seem to have a central theme all the dishes are executed wonderfully. We went for Tacomania as part of Rhode Island Food Fights and were offered a chicken and pulled pork taco. The pulled pork was the best taco I've had in a long time. The pork was tender and juicy, and the corona cheese sprinkled on top provided a nice creaminess and the lettuce provided a textural crunch that was essential. Both tacos were massive compared to most other taco places in the area. If you come here hungry you will not be disappointed by the portion sizes. We also tried their Cubanos. Quick tip, a small is a single Cubano sandwich, but if you get a large, they give you two whole sandwiches! The bread was toasted perfectly and the ham was fatty and rich. Also above average for the different Cubanos I've had in the area. We didn't get a chance to try their sweet corn but a couple next to us got some and it looked amazing! Only thing that would make it better is more seating! It's not the easiest place to get to from Providence, but it's well worth it. Can't wait to come back again!

We stopped into Cocina Sabrosa for the RI Food Fights' "Taco Mania!" event…read more The dining room itself is brightly lit, giving off a distinct cafeteria-like feel--it's clean and functional, but not particularly cozy. You place your order at the counter, and the food is brought out to your table. The service was relaxed and generally nothing special, just the standard efficient delivery you'd expect from a counter-service spot. We tried the Carne Asada Tacos -- decent flavor, though not quite standout, and the lime wedges served with them seemed a bit past their prime. We also tried the Cubano sandwich. Visually, it was great: nicely pressed, generously stuffed, and made with an authentic type of Cuban bread. Unfortunately, the flavor was a letdown. It was a bit flat and lacked the punchy, vibrant, savory, and tangy notes you look for in a classic Cubano. Overall, Cocina Sabrosa was okay -- solid but not spectacular. Worth a try if you're nearby, but probably wouldn't go out of the way for it.

Take me back to Providence, Rhode Island. This restaurant just made its way to my Top 10 favorite…read morerestaurants and yes, I will travel 3000 miles for their food! We were hungry then found this place while we were looking for a place to eat. Totally unplanned, just wanted to get a bite to eat. This restaurant is located on Broad St (busy street) next to McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, and other places to eat. I'm so glad we walked into this establishment. My boyfriend and his younger brothers are Puerto Rican. They asked me if I've ever tried Mofongo. I've always wanted to try it, so I ordered the Mofongo with chicharron. Best decision ever. What it is, is mushed up plaintains mixed with Pernil (Puerto Rican slow roasted pork). Then topped off with chicharrones. It also came with a red sauce (not spicy) and a white sauce. It was so good: The ladies working there at the time were very friendly too. There is a bathroom inside for customers only and a lot of tables to sit. You just sit yourself. Can't wait to come back to Providence just for this restaurant. I'm hooked!

Tostones could have been better, def needed a harder fry and salt. Rice and habichuelas really good. Salad was bare minimum and was cabbage, tomato and cucumbers. Really enjoyed the Pernil compared to other Hispanic takeouts I've had, flavorful and not dry. Their Chicken al horno was good too.

There is no menu so you don't know what the bill will be until you get to the register. Communication was definitely an issue since they do not speak much, if any, English. I ordered a plate that incorporated almost everything that they had in the buffet...beef, goat, chicken, and things I don't even know what it was (one of each)? The food was good and I think the chicken wings were probably the best tasting item in the buffet. The meat they use isn't the best quality, but they do a great job with it. My plate was $16.00 The bartender did not know any English so she handed her phone over so we could communicate. She said the best drink she makes is a margarita so I was in and it did not disappoint. $15.00 Overall, I probably wouldn't go back, but I'm glad I had the experience. Everyone was nice and tried the best they could to accommodate me.

When I first drove by it I was like, wow, that place looks like it would have good food but it looked a bit sketchy. I can't imagine that many of my suburban neighbors/friends would even imagine eating here. I quickly pulled over and searched Yelp and read the 3 reviews and jumped out of my car. I can hardly speak Spanish but a young very nice boy translated to possibly his mom for me. Also, a man came in to get some food, possibly the dad and he was so patient and helpful explaining every dish. Before long I was headed out the door with a large amount of food and a bottle of water for 9 bucks! I tipped her $4 because I just knew the food would be kill and the customer service was outstanding. Try finding all of the above in an American run restaurant... not happening. They were closing in 15 minutes so there wasn't a huge assortment of items (which is why I am going back today, and with no other reason) but I was given 4 different chicken and pork items as well as rice and great beans. I just finished the rest for lunch and it was so good. I would go there for sure at least once a week if I lived closeby. If you want to impress someone who would never even consider getting out of the car on a street like this, grab some take out and bring it home to them. Trust me, they will be thanking you ten fold. Thank you, thank you, thank you to this hard working kind family for sharing your gift of amazing food preparation with all... Peace.

I recently moved to the neighborhood and the first thing I…read morenoticed was the smell of cooked meats permeating the air - and Merengue is definitely one of the contributors! My hubz and I are a regular here because it's so close and so cheap. I like this place more than La Gran Parada on Broad Street and the other places on Cranston. The rice and meat are fresh and not overly salty like some of the other places could be. Usually we can share one plate order and it will last 2 meals for the both of us! We like to get the pork shoulder, the short ribs and the soup (the one loaded with veggies and meat). It's definitely Dominican fast food so it may be difficult to communicate if you don't know Spanish, but pointing at the food and smiling goes a long way. You'll be fine, hipsters.

Food selections had a nice variety. I ordered a plate with rice and pigeon peas and stewed pork ribs which is accompanied with a small salad The rice was flavorful and nice and fluffy and the stewed ribs a was 1 of the better versions I've had. I also order a large mundongo (tripe soup) A side of white rice. So I gave 3 stars that's a because it was not the easiest place to place an order with some challenges with the language barriers. And the whole process seems a slow since all the food is already prepared. It would seem pretty simple to point scour into the containers and bag it up and out the door. But was a slow process. The food would get a 4 stars for that nice flavors and freshness. But the mundongo I pointed and ordered never made it to my bag. When I got it home, it was a large container of the stewed beans that is usually used to top the white rice. So I couldn't add my review on what I did not get.
