Let's get this straight: this is Tex-Mex, American style Mexican food, not Mexican food. Most people haven't had real Mexican food so they'll like this place just fine, and what it serves is pretty good for the style. If you don't go in expecting real Mexican, you'll enjoy it just fine. ...except the service is real spotty and worse, I have had hair in my food not once, but TWICE. You know how hard it is to go to a place again after having found hair in your food once? It's a task of Sisyphean proportions. And then to get burned again? I can't ever go back now, no matter what I thought of the food. They offered a new dish in place of the hairy one (which is an unacceptable option because a patron has usually lost their appetite by that point) and despite turning that down, the plate was still on the bill. As much as I love Mexican (in all its forms), and as bad as the east side needs a good place for it, Mi Mexico largely coasts by on its reputation and décor. I cannot safely recommend it at this point for any reason. read more

Solid. Dining here is never a let-down. The menu is packed with selection and everything I have had or friends have had has been fresh, tasty, authentic, well-seasoned, and always satisfying. Their shrimp are always cooked just right,margaritas are strong, and they have horchata, which is a highlight for me. Decor is bright and festive. The Spanish roofline seen on the exterior continues inside over the booths, so it looks a bit like you are outdoors. Tables and wall paint are done in bright neons with the tables made of carved wood. Everything is clean and feels sanitary. If you choose to sit on the patio, don't be discouraged by the restaurant's Livingston location. The patio is tucked behind the restaurant and is surrounded by walls with patio lights. It's actually a pretty effective retreat from the surroundings. The service I have had here is always friendly, prompt, accommodating, and just what you'd hope for in this atmosphere. I give Mi Mexico 5 stars by casual restaurant standards. They're doing it right! read more

I'm only giving a 1 star bc I have no choice... I just left Mi Mexico (4775 E Main St) The experience went like this.... I arrived and was seated right away. The waiter came to me and ask if I was ready. When I said "no, I don't know what my date wanted " the waiter asked "do you want me to bring water"? I said "yes". Waiter brought water very quickly. After my date returns we waited 5 mins before our waiter returned. We ordered our margaritas. The waiter returned with our margaritas and asked if we were ready to ordered. We stated we needed a few minutes.... 8 mins later my date went to the front to ask for our waiter and stated we were waiting for 8+ mins. 10 mins later a family is seated right beside us. Our waiter not only took their drink order and returned with those drinks, he returned and actually started taking their orders. At that moment I went to the register and voiced my issues and what I got in return was the cost for my margaritas, not an apology nor was a manager available. I paid my bill this $21.37 bill with $22.00 and the sarcasm of the lady at register had the nerve to come to my table and dropped my change on table without words or eye contact. Still no apologies. With me looking around the restaurant while I was in there I noticed we were the only BLACK PEOPLE in there with mostly Mexican and a few whites. I'm curious if my skin was the purpose of the poor service. A very bad first expression for someone visiting Columbus. I would definitely recommend NOT GIVING THIS RESTAURANT ANY OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. read more

One of my favorite places on the east side of town and have been going there since before they left the Eastmoor area. The waiters and waitresses are fast and aim to please. Pretty standard Mexican fare. I had the lunch chimichanga (steak) and the fungdido dip. Both were good, but nothing to write home about. Especially the dip given its price. The steak was tender and flavorful and a good lunch portion. The rice was really lacking. Usual the rice at mexican places is my favorite, but this really left a lot to be desired. Coworkers insisted the food here was good so I went out with them. I wished I had not. I have been to several Mexican restaurants in Columbus. The food here lacks flavor and seasonings. The rice was bland and the beans were okay. The food comes out really quick which lets you know it's not cooked fresh to order. Not at all what I expected since my coworkers claimed it was great. Delicious, Cheap, and quick Tex Mex. My personal favorite in Columbus. The happy hour is pretty great too, I'm pretty sure there's some sort of Margarita special on Thursdays that would probably be worth checking out. Mi, My, Mine After my first two lackluster attempts to find "Good" American style Mexican food in the Columbus, OH area, I think I finally found a decent place. This place is not in the high end of town, which is fine with me; it keeps the prices moderate. The music that was playing as we entered sounded like traditional canción Ranchera. The décor here was absolutely unique. Very colorful, I have never seen tables and chairs like this before and they really made us feel like we were tourist in our own country. The booths gave a sense of privacy and simulated little enclaves. Now, the serve was super-fast; Jimmy Johns has nothing on this place. The appetizers arrived quickly very soon to follow was the entrees. The sauce they used on the chili rellenos, when it mixed with everything, was just spectacular. The portions were large and a patron feels like he/she is getting their money's worth. Needless to say, we took some food home. Appetizer, Entrees: Chilli Rellenos, Taco combo (#16), Kid Cheeseburger and fries. Drinks: Super Large Margaretta, 1 beer, and soda. Total cost $49.00 without tip. I am stationed in California but every time I come home to Columbus I ask my fiancé to take me to get Mexican here. I absolutely love this place. It's authentic and delicious. They are good at explain what a dish is and if you ask for something to be be removed (fiancé hates tomatoes) they never have and issue and always get the order right. We recently went in December 2016 and it was a good as I remembered. I love the Hawaiian fajitas served in half a pineapple but the simple dishes are just as good! read more

When I asked for an extra shot, they told me that would raise the price from $10 to $14. I will not ever be returning. We love going here to eat and go back regularly. My parents who live in Mexico parttime agree the food is very authentic. Prices are good and quantities satisfy even my teenage boys. Mi Mexico is our staple east side Mexican Restaurant. We love this place and visit it at least twice a month. The service is always fast and friendly, the food is always fabulous, and the atmosphere is authentic. This isnt just your typical i checked this place out and decided to give it a review post. This is a I have visited this place at least 30 times and i have only had one bad experience ever. My go to is the Super Fajita Quesadilla and it is as delicious as it is enormous. After visiting other (within 10 miles) Mexican places, and always coming back to MiMex, I have to say it's really the best in the entire southeast quadrant of Columbus. We regularly take people visiting out here for a meal. It's cheap, it's fast, it's close. They always handle busy days well, even when we've been there on May 5th. I was very disappointed. The food was horrible. The beans were cold. The chimichanga was not fried and it was actually soggy, however they insisted it was fried. The margarita tasted watered down. Saw the restaurant on Yelp and thought I would give it a try on a nice Thursday evening. Asked to sit on the outdoor patio and that's when it went wrong. Upon sitting down, I immediately was annoyed by cigarette smoke coming from a gentlemen at the next table. I asked the server if they allowed smoking. He said yes. Wrong answer for me as I wasn't about to enjoy my dinner with smoke blowing in my face. We decided to just have a drink. Apparently the Lime Margarita was the special of the day but after asking what Tequila was used, we declined since we didn't care for Jose Cuervo. We asked for a Margarita with Don Julio and the server said they can't. What do you mean you can't? We will pay for the upgrade? Don't you have a bar? He said yes, but they couldn't make it. It seemed they only wanted to sell the pre-made stuff. That was the last straw for us and we happily left. I can spend my hard earned money elsewhere...went down the street to Poblano's. Beautiful location, food was great, service was even better. When we asked for a Margarita with Don Julio, the response was...No problem. I will come again to a place where my money is appreciated. Avoid Mi Mexico, where service comes with smoke and where they want to serve you cheap Margarita's so they can save money. read more
