Mi Lupita's Kitchen is a quaint Mexican restaurant located right across the street from the Red Bank train station. As part of a "treat myself" day, I went there for lunch after a massage. I went early in the afternoon on a Friday and the restaurant was practically empty. There were only about two other tables aside from mine. Therefore, the service was quite attentive. I was given chips and salsa, which is usually customary at Mexican restaurants. I ordered a watermelon agua fresco, which was refreshing and not overly sweet. I ordered the quesabirria tacos as my entree. The tacos were tasty. I've definitely had more flavorful tacos elsewhere, but they got the job done. For dessert, I got the churros, which were filled with dulce de leche and came with scoops of vanilla ice cream. Delicious! I would definitely return to this spot. It seems pretty authentic and I'd like to try some other dishes. They are byob, so next time, I'll bring something to sip on with my food. read more

One of the absolute best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. They have the best tacos and Birria tacos around. I don't live close enough to go all the time but I have a student I teach in Red Bank that after his lesson, I will go and eat here. When my student graduates, I will still come back every now and then. read more

My friend suggested this place so we checked it out. The only table they had available was near the entrance which was fine until it started getting busy and people were waiting in the area where our table was located. It felt like they were on top of us which was annoying. The food was very good. It was fresh and authentic. I really enjoyed my birria tacos. The service on the other hand was really lacking. We didn't get our appetizers for about 30 minutes. We also waited a long time to place our order. Our server barely checked in on us and we had to track somebody down at the end for our check. Overall, the food was great but not sure I would go out of my way to return due to the poor service. read more

A great restaurant in Red Bank right next to the train station. The guacamole is super fresh, could use a bit more s & p but that's me. Chips on point, tacos are great and so is veggie burrito. Not a fan of the steak they use, it's tough, chewy and not seasoned well. The patio is a nice place to eat, love being outdoors when weather is nice. The service is prompt and friendly staff. I'll be sad when they have to leave so more "CONDOS" (that we don't need), will be built in their location. You can tell this place is serving really good tacos just judging by the photos. We decided to give it a shot. It exceeded our expectations and ended up being my favorite tacos of all time. You have to order the quesabirria, it's tender beef tacos melted with cheese inside a pan-fried corn tortilla that you dip in broth. It's simply the best. Not the best start: there was no hostess at the front, so 3 parties stood there for 3-5 minutes even though there were multiple tables open. Once we were seated it was all good. We sat outside, ambiance was lovely with colorful flags and picnic tables and lively Mexican music in the background. Our server was flying around as the joint was understaffed, but it didn't even matter in the end because she handled it with grace and the food was phenomenal. Every server was so gracious. I'm so happy that my husband and I went to check out the place I've been seeing all over instagram! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted immediately with a smile. It was small and cozy. Loved the music in the background and decor. We lucked out and got a table right away. The menu explained what all the dishes were and each one better than the next. Upon sitting down we were given a basket of tortilla chips with a variety of sauces to dip them in. We ordered and asked for a few adjustments in each dish. Came on a Friday night, but we were early. No one was there yet we were the first table to be seated. After that, we just sat for about 10 minutes until someone came and took our order so service was a bit slow. We received our complementary chips and were told if we want more we have to pay for them. I did order guacamole which came with another bowl of chips. PS both bowls were quite small in size. Didn't take any photos or food was just OK nothing to write home about We brought our own cocktails as a BYOB We were in the Redbank area for a show at the Count Basie theater however, I probably wouldn't return too many other great places in the area read more

Located within walking distance from the Red Bank train stop, you can grab a quick bite or sit for a while. A coworker and I popped in to grab something prior to taking the train to the American Dream mall. There was a large party seated and they seemed to manage the crowd efficiently. We were seated up front by the door and were greeted by the February breeze each time a patron entered or exited. They have some items available if you plan to prepare food at home. Takeout, di e in and call ahead are available. Capable of cash, credit card and contactless pay. They may charge a surcharge for so.e credit card payments. As often as I go out, I hadn't had the birria tacos, so that's what I ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed the tacos with & without the dipping broth. The price point for tacos in various locations seems to be inflated but I was happy with these. There are alcoholic beverages and soft drinks available. Our waitress didn't speak much English, but was attentive and polite. If in a pinch, use your Google translate and it'll make things easier for all involved. We are big fans of Mexican food, and we had tried all the other spots in Red Bank. i had driven past this one so many times. it looks cute and homey. It was Sunday evening and quite busy. We were greeted by a server, who I think is also possibly the owner. He was very welcoming, asked us to wait until he delivered food he was carrying. It was crowded and noisy inside and a beautiful day, so we asked for outside seating. That was very noisy also, not really anyone's fault due to a group celebrating a birthday. We could have, and should have, requested a table further from them. The outside setting is very simple but pleasant. Our server was robotic, and the wait for food was long, but the restaurant was crowded, so not unexpected. My husband order a "weekends only" item, something rather unique that he eagerly anticipated. Surprise! It was not available. He settled for a shrimp dish, which he described as "ok". I ordered chicken enchiladas, which turned out to be mostly enchilada, minimal chicken. the mild red sauce was not mild. The rice serving was about 3 tablespoons, but there was a whole sliced avocado. I'm not sure of the economy of that. There was an empty space on the plate. DI'd the preparer forget the refried beans? On the positive side, prices are inexpensive. All in all, it was a disappointing experience. read more

Seriously good Mexican food. Had the menudo and tried the birria and pork al pastor. Ate outside, which in mid-October is probably just about over. The inside dining room is cheerful and clean, but outside is special. It's not a fancy place, but the food is beautifully made and carefully plated, starting with the homemade tortillas (homemade down to creating the masa from corn kernels!). Their birria is better than any I've had, even on the west coast. If you're a fan of menudo, this is a great version. The cow hoof meat (never had it before) and connective tissue was falling off the bone and super tender and succulent, the tripe was perfectly cooked. I wanted it more spicy, the waitress brought finely ground chile de arbol. My only complaint was that I didn't have two stomachs. The people working there clearly have well deserved pride in what they do. Outstanding. read more

We stopped in again to try some different stuff. I had the choriqueso again which was amazing I got the quesabirria tacos, also great. I probably could have had 3 more. My wife got a chicken burrito which came with a large side of white rice & beans. She loved her burrito. Overall, better than our first visit and we will be back! read more

Review number 800! My daughter and I are on the hunt for the best Birria Tacos in NJ Mi Lupitas hit my radar based on the proximity to my home and the rave reviews. Mi Lupitas did not disappoint, the service is excellent and the servers are so friendly. Looks like a family run operation located in the old Walt Street Pub in Red Bank The complimentary tortilla chips are different than your run of the mill tortillas, the tortillas are served with a black bean mash salsa which is great but what really shines is their homemade sauces, one better than the next. The Mexican street fries are ridiculously delicious, double fried French fries with homemade guacamole, crema, cojita cheese and fresh peppers. The Birria tacos were excellent, the consommé was fantastic. We ordered the Quesabirria which includes melted cheese goodness. 5 stars all the way for this cute Mexican restaurant. read more

Awesome spot! We came for dinner on Saturday night before a show at Count Basie theater. Great location by the NJ Transit train station and also a couple of blocks from the theater. The food was delicious! Everything was homemade and great portion sizes. We shared tacos (chicken and steak/shrimp) plus tricolor enchiladas, which were both great. We also had elotes and added on a jalapeño and cheese tamale. Plus, churros with ice cream for dessert. Service was also quick and easy. Seeing a show later and we stopped in this authentic-looking Mexican restaurant. I read some good reviews on Yelp first . I had the birria soup with beef tacos which was very good. Tacos were crispy like I wanted. The wife had the thin bistec steak and rice/beans which she enjoyed. Had a side of guac, which was just ok, had too much onions honestly. But overall a nice place with good food. We will go back again. read more

Wow! I came across this place by chance -- My wife and I saw that this restaurant was highly rated so we stopped by to check it out. We had an early dinner on a Sunday and were seated immediately. As time went by, the place started getting very busy. We sat inside but there's outdoor seating in the back. The ambiance was inviting. I thought it was pretty cool that the tables are repurposed sewing machines with the included peddle. Service was excellent. Even as the place was getting busy, our waiter was attentive and got us everything that we needed. The complimentary chips and refried black bean salsa were very tasty. It was refreshing to have something different than typical salsa. The black bean salsa was very flavorful. I ordered a chicken burrito and it came with black beans and rice. The rice was delicious - It tasted like it was seasoned well and maybe left in a broth. The burrito was top notch and one of the top 10 that I've eaten. I couldn't help but see the dishes that the other tables ordered and each looked amazing. I definitely plan to return and try the other items on the menu. There's one way to sum up Mi Lupita's Kitchen: a vacation for the mind, body, and taste buds. I was slightly underwhelmed by the Mexican food options in downtown Red Bank, and remembering that there were quite a few that came up in surrounding neighborhoods I used Yelp to guide me to Mi Lupita's Kitchen. I was greeted with an especially warm welcome, coming in with the sometimes-dangerous expectation that the food would be the best Mexican food in the area. Boy, was I blown away at the ambiance once I found the outside area. It's decorated beautifully, and designed for crisp summer nights. The entire restaurant is clean, and like there was a sound investment made into having the best equipment possible. The presentation feels high-end from the onset, as fresh tortilla chips are served with three different types of salsas and a bean dip. I do like flavor in my salsa rather than pure spice, and all three delivered although I preferred the middle red salsa then the green salsa which is normal for me then the spicier salsa at the end which I didn't find spicy. All have a nice balance of a slight heat in my opinion. This alone would make it a high-end restaurant half a mile away. I've had Birria on my mind lately after seeing so many food trucks go viral for offering it, so I happily ordered the Birria tacos for $12. The presentation and flavor on this were both top-notch, again feeling like a high-end establishment. The Birria broth was so rich I only used a spoonful or two for each taco. Now, I have a remarkable appetite so to me all of this wonderful food felt like appetizers. Suffice to say I then ordered a torta with chorizo, and I'm not kidding when I say this was one of the most flavorful sandwiches I've ever had. The fries were also done to perfection in a thick boardwalk-style, only needing a bit of salt & pepper to taste. They do have a platter with 8 tacos, two burritos, and two quesadillas along with loaded fries suitable for a family. It would be quite interesting to see this as an official food challenge, only because I've been wanting to do one for so long to test my own appetite. Compared to other proper food challenges that's already a pretty insane amount of food. Then there was the flan that was so unbelievably rich, only elevated by equally rich caramel and chocolate sauces. Service was incredibly warm, making me want to return just to show off my new hidden gem find to local friends. They also have cocktails that looked incredibly fresh prepared by a hard-working bartender, with the caveat that patrons need to bring their own liquor/beer. My only surprise was that the flan must have been ~$12, which is acceptable, as my total before tip come out to $39 with tax and a credit card processing fee after ordering Birria tacos ($12), chorizo torta ($10), and a Mexican coke ($1.50). Sitting outside is so tranquil and relaxing, with an atmosphere suited for any type of party. Mi Lupita's Kitchen is a winner all-around. read more

Giving three stars since one dish was perfect but everything else could have been better. In my takeout order I got Birria Tacos and Quesadillas as main entrees. The Birria Tacos were perfect. They sat in my car for 30 min while I drove home so I was kinda surprised they weren't soggy. The consume´ it came with was really good too. The quesadillas were a nice big portion but tasted like pure portabella mushroom. It overpowered the yellow chicken mole that was also inside. My order also included rice with black beans that just tasted a bit unseasoned. I was also kinda sad that none of the salsa was spicy. This place is kinda new so I would probably go back and give it a second try but dine indoors instead of getting takeout. read more

My wife and I have been going here for some time now. Try to go in the summer to sit outdoors and we often do takeout as well. Just moved even closer so we will for sure be here more. The tacos are great, and great price for 4. The aqua frescas are amazing, the desserts are great and the quesabirria is good too. 3.5 stars. This is a very hard restaurant to rate. We had 2 dinners here tonight one was so delicious, but the other dinner was horrible! One was 5 stars, but the other one was 1 star. The staff was really nice, the prices were inexpensive, and the portions were large. They even give you complimentary chips with 3 different salsas. We ordered the tri color enchiladas and the steak sopas. The tri color enchiladas were DELICIOUS! I added jack cheese on top which really made that dinner even more amazing! I'd definitely come back for the tri color enchiladas. The steak sopas dinner was HORRIBLE! The corn cakes didn't taste good at all, and the steak had no flavor. Plus the steak was dry. We also ordered a side of beans that were very good! For dessert we had the churros, and they were good. I'd definitely come back for the enchiladas, and try some more dishes. OMG! The quesoberria tacos were so good! Quacamole was very nice, my taste would have been a bit more heat. My spouse had the chicken enchiladas and was very happy. Our server Chris was helpful, friendly and patient. We all had a great time. It seems like you can bring your own tequila even on weekdays and they'll supply the mixers. I often eat at Mexican restaurants and I can honestly say I have never had better Mexican food. Everything was so fresh, and the menu was extensive. We were a table of 7 and everyone loved what they ordered. On top of this, the service was incredible. Very attentive. The owner was present and helping the staff and was very hospitable and easy to talk to. I live almost an hour away but will definitely be back soon. Thank you for such a great meal.
