Camarones a la Mexicana
Thomas P.

We ate here because it's across the street from the Vogel. We gat a table right away, but the wait staff seemed overwhelmed. We waited a while to get guacamole and had to ask twice. The guac and salsa both were mild. My Camarones (shrimp) dish was excellent when it finally arrived. My wife's beef dish, Carne Asada, was also good and big enough for two meals. Both dishes came with tortillas, rice and beans.

Shrimp tacos for the wife. I had the steak burrito.

My wife and I were attending a comedy show across the street, and we wanted to grab a bite before the show. The ambiance is very cozy as it's a small restaurant. The service was fast and attentive. You can tell it's a mom and pop restaurant, and it was in the flavor of the food. Everything was tasty. I won't drive 90 minutes to come back, but if I'm in the area, I'll definitely come back.

Tacos de Birria

I think these are the best tacos I've ever had and so affordable too! They stuff with so much meat and cilantro and onions! The waiters are nice. The place is nice and small. The price is amazing. The food is delicious!

Beef Soup. Amazing!

Azteca Grill is a secret gem inconspicuously sitting across from Count Basie Theatre. Each meal starts with warm chips and fresh salsa (but if you like, Maximo makes a spicy salsa verde on request). They have all of the dishes you would expect at a "Mexican" restaurant (enchiladas, quesadillas, etc.) and they're all great, but let me tell you why Azteca is a FIVE STAR restaurant and far exceeds expectations. We discovered it almost by accident one day when we popped in for a bite to eat. One of our party was feeling a steak for dinner and he was absolutely blown away by this poterhouse. He now eats the ribeye every time we come back. Their Spicy Seafood Soup is incredible (actually all of the soups are really good). The broth is homemade and the amount of seafood (often shrimp, clams, and muscles) is super generous. Maximo, the amazing chef and owner, seems to have specials every day, which have never failed to impress. We love bringing a bottle of wine to have with dinner as Azteca is BYOB. Azteca is still operating during COVID, so definitely go support this great local business! If seats are all taken outside, in my experience, they'll gladly put out another table for you.

Tres Leches

Incredible authentic Mexican food. Fantastic service & always made fresh. You must get the nacho supreme, birria, carnitas & tres leches

Shrimp taco

Stopped in here before the show the other night, got seated right away. We were given some chips and salsa, for my entree i got shrimp tacos. They were great, tons of shrimp they gave. The service was good as well, few tables inside. But definitely a good spot!

The staff is so friendly. The girl helped us with a vegetarian variation of a burrito and was so patient with us to get our order right.

Update 2: In honor of Cinco de Mayo, we got - Chorizo…read moreCemita, Chorizo tacos, rice and beans, sautéed onions and peppers (new find, highly recommend), and something I thought I wouldn't enjoy much but ended up having most, Chicken Enchilada in salsa verde sauce. Communication can sometime be a little difficult, but the food more than makes up for it. Update 1: 5 stars again, got delivery via the restaurant a few days back. The arabes had great flavor, and lasted for days. Chorizo tacos were obviously the favorite, as expected. Also, was blown away by how filling and delicious the Cemita was. Support local businesses, if you can, please! I was starving after my massage and ordered tacos to go - two tacos with chorizo, potatoes, onions and one with chicken, smoked chipotle. Literally sped home to eat them (I had one in the car right away. Don't regret it) Amazing, amazing tacos. The chorizo tacos said onions (cebolla) but they were long stemmed bulbs - not sure if they're called something else but I loved them (please let me know if anybody knows what they're called. Check photIt came with lime, radish and green salsa (not sure). Red Bank has awesome options if you don't care about these places being small, cramped and not upscale. Top quality authentic Mexican food. I'm going to go back soon to try more of their menu.

I love tacos, especially when they are authentic. Red Bank has no shortage of Mexican restaurants…read moreso I went on a mission to find lengua (beef tongue), which can be hard to come by. Thankfully North of the Border came through. I like to try a variety of tacos but unfortunately NOTB, like many others, does not let you mix and match. Therefore, I chose an order of 3 lengua and 3 chorizo tacos. I also ordered a bottle of coke to go. I had to do a double take of the receipt as my total was pushing $30. I asked the woman at the counter to break down the prices and confirmed that the lengua tacos were $13 and chorizo were $9. This threw me off as an older picture of the menu shows all tacos priced at $7. I really enjoyed these tacos. They were super authentic and full of flavor. I may order again but will be shopping around first to find tacos that are more reasonably priced.

A Red Bank must try restaurant....Kitchen Tex-Mex has outstanding authentic Mexican food…read more Ample seating can accommodate a lot of guests so I wouldn't estimate you could always get a table. The menu is extensive so there are a lot of options and undoubtedly something for everyone. Guacamole and chips were fresh, when eating the salsa the green one is rather spicy so keep that in mind (we love spicy so it was perfect). Tacos as an option is great because you can get them all the same or mix it up and order fish, pork, shredded pork and or sausage. The meat is slow cooked and accompanied by melted cheese, onions, and cilantro.....the perfect combination to dance on your Palate. The fish taco was lightly breaded chunks of fish and was not in the slightest bit greasy. I would highly recommend you order a horchata drink....it's a non-alcoholic, sweet, and refreshing drink. Horchata is made by blending white rice and cinnamon sticks in water and letting them soak overnight. After the rice and cinnamon are discarded, the remaining liquid is then flavored with vanilla, sugar, and ground cinnamon.....a must try and a drink you will crave all the time.

They also bring tortilla chips for starters with salsa. They provide a discount if paying with cash. A solid spot, would return here again to try their $2 taco special

I was celebrating my bestie birthday and they both made it very SPECIAL!! We both enjoyed our drinks and entrees. We ordered the same steak with rice and beans which was delicious!! I really enjoyed the food!…read more Did not enjoy trying to find parking, even valet was a ways off instead of being in the front of the restaurant. There was also a bit of a sewage smell that lingered the whole evening, not sure where that was coming from. But, the most important to me is the food lol. It was a lively atmosphere inside. I'm glad that they allowed us to be seated even though our full party wasn't present. Service was friendly and fast. Really enjoyed the crab empanadas.... the "guacamole" they puree it which gave it a bit of a watery texture that wasn't the best. But, the absolute star of the show was my scallop entree! WOW. Every bite was perfectly balanced and delicious! Highly recommend.. I got a side order of rice and beans because I needed an extra bed for all of that deliciousness. Would take this to go! My cosmo was tasty, small, but tasty. Pleasant experience overall.
