Great authentic tasting Torta nice people and clean looking establishment . Will be coming back.

With my girlfriend being from Elsalvador it had been hard to find good Pupusas. Finally I had and would bring them to her. Sadly they closed down... I took her all the way to Orlando in the hunt for a pupusa that matched that of Mi Carnal that we had been spoiled with. It was in one of these trips that we discovered they had re opened !!!! The day after returning we are the trip to see the new location. Omg! There is still no match for these pupusas anywhere! Very authentic and you will not be disappointed ! Carlos is very polite and provides amazing service! We will be back many times now for sure! Come on by and say hello to Carlos and take in the great food and amazing atmosphere! read more

I do not eat meat and haven't had much on their menu but I can tell you that the beans and cheese pupusas are AMAZING! I order a side of fresh avocado on the side for an extra kick. I have been told that their taco salad is also amazing. I plan on ordering a vegetarian version of that soon. Happy Eating! read more

Great place! I got the pupusas and tamales and they were delicious! The owner was very warm and welcoming.

This our second time coming to this restaurant. The first time was two years ago before they moved to the new location. Two years ago it was so good that we have dreamt of coming back. We just left Mi Carnal for the second time. In the new location: you have to order at the counter, the food is served on plastic plates, the portion size is one third the size it used to be, the chicken taco soup is just eh...the entire meal was just fair at best. I'm sorry to write this as they are nice folks but the quality and the experience has gone down hill. read more

I have to be honest from the outside it looked more like a check cashing place then a mexican food place, but it just goes to show you don"t judge a book by its cover. The best authentic mexican food in years. Very friendly and helpful waitor. read more

Outstanding! Get the Pupusas's Get the Tacos. Get the Burritos. The hot sauces are perfect. This is the best real Mexican in St. Augustine...Fact! read more

A hole in the wall kind of place. The food was flavorful, generously portioned and priced reasonably. A typical mom and pop place, run by a charming El Savadorian couple serving fresh and scratch made food. It was so good my 7 year old son declared that we needed to come back again. Unfortunately, the place is easy to miss but if you slow down and take a look you will be pleasantly rewarded with a very good meal. read more

A nice owner and food in this simple little restaurant and store make it worth visiting. My favorite dish was the flan for dessert ($2.50). It was above-average flan, and I always like flan. I think the sauce was the best part of it, but I wish there was much more of it. Also, it was very large. While I finished it, with a little help, it was big enough for two I'd say. It was cold, as is common, but I think flan is better at room temperature so I would have microwaved it for a bit. I'd definitely get it again. My second-favorite dish was papusas ($8), at least after they cooled down. It was pleasant to good, so I might get it again but I also might try something else next time to see if I can find something I prefer. I liked my companion's torta (Mexican sandwich) less: pleasant, but it wouldn't be my choice next time there. We also got two sodas: a Mexican Coke (with sugar cane instead of corn syrup, so I wanted to try it), and a lime Jarritos. Neither were anything special. Two entrees, two drinks, a dessert, and tip came to $15. The bathroom, at the back of the store, was decent. The owner of this family-run restaurant was very friendly, a real benefit to the place. I might visit here again. read more

As good as it gets for Mexican food. This is the authentic stuff here people. It's good to dine in and try all their hot sauces(3-4 of them.) I've had the carnitas plate and chicken tamales. I've also tried the pupusas with curtido and hot sauce and they are all good. They have lengua, chorizo, barbacoa, and pastor among others. That list is how you know it's authentic Mexican food. The pupusas are Salvadoran but the rest is Mexican. Please try this and demand more authentic places like this in the First Coast! read more

I live in Indianapolis, but in my entire 22 years I've never had a better meal! The service was fabulous! The owner waited on us and was so helpful with my great grandmother. Incredibly friendly, wonderful smile. The restaurant was clean and very well decorated. Small but perfect! The most fabulous family owned Mexican restaurant I've ever been too! I am in love! Im contemplating moving down here just so I can be closer to this place! I asked if he had a single son, he said yes he's 25 and I said I'm in love already! of all my time giving reviews on yelp, I've never been more satisfied! If you're in The area and love Mexican food this is the place to come! Quick, cheap, amazing authentic food that will steal your heart! Mi Carnal Restaurant - My 88 year old great grandmother. - Mexican Near Me - Saint Augustine, Florida

My husband had to drag me into this place because of what the outside looks like. It's in some run down shopping mall in what appears to be an old jiffy store. BUT I'm glad he forced me to ignore my apprehension. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and ready in maybe less than ten minutes. I got two chorizo tacos that came with rice and beans and the chorizo was just the right amount of spicy. My husband got the papusas and said they were good. This place is definitely worth a visit. read more

Can I hear an Oh Yea for some great Papusas! A little restaurant tucked in a strip mall. Went for lunch and it looked like it was definitely a local place, run by a small committed family. That's a great thing cause if the locals are eating here then they've got to be doing something right. And "The Right Stuff" for us was their Salvadoran Papusas. They ROCKED!! We loved the mixed: beans, cheese, and pork, the cheese & bean were just as good, and the cheese was nothin' to complain about. Add the homemade pickled veggies and three levels of hot sauce makes these babies shine! All for $6.99, WOW! We'll be back next time we're visiting St. Augustine and maybe we'll try something else on the menu, but for sure we'll double our order of these yummy bundles of goodness. ;o) read more

I've only been here once, but I wouldn't change a thing about my experience. I was there on a Saturday in which they were closing at 3:00 for unknown and unannounced reasons, but fortunately I came at about 2:00 so I was able to eat peacefully in plenty of time. I put a high premium on places as laid back as this. Not that I don't like to get dressed up and go out to dinner every now and then, but I was playing softball nearby at Treaty Park so I looked and felt like a slob. I planned to grab some food and run before I caused a scene (through sight and/or smell), but the owner made me feel so comfortable and encouraged me to stay and eat. I'm glad I did as this place was the highlight of my short day trip to St. Augustine. I got two carnitas tacos with rice, beans, and a pineapple soda. What a combo... so good. I'd be a regular for sure if I lived in the area. Hopefully I'll get a chance to come back and try the pupusas. read more

AMAZING!!! Great find. Excellent food. Best pupusa I've ever had! Friendly staff. Make sure not to miss this on your trip St Augustine!

We first enjoyed Mi Carnal about 2 years ago at their old location. It was so good that we looked them up again. They didn't disappoint. I enjoy trying new things and the owner recommended a pork dish - delicious - the pork was tinder and succulent. My wife's burrito look fabulous as well (and she said it was). Look forward to visiting again. read more

Went here via a yelp comments. They where spot on, small little restaurant / grocery store. Looks to be family owned, great service, very friendly staff, clean. Meals home cooked, I ordered the Carnitas platter, Very Good. My wife had the Carnitas Quesadilla, also very good. Beans where ok, rice was different then most Mexican restaurants, but I liked it. Over all I give it a 4.25, yes, if I lived here, I would be back again. read more

This place was the perfect stop for a late lunch. We tried the Pupusas ($3 each)with pickled cabbage, onion and carrot, the Biggest Burrito ($7.99) and one of the chicken, chorizo, and pork tacos ($5.99 for 3). Everything was fresh and delicious, which is exactly what we wanted, something homemade, a world away from all the fast food joints on the hwy. Carlos, the owner was very friendly and explained about the Pupusas, which we had not tried before, telling us they're a typical El Salvadorian dish. So so good! My new favourite thing. Highly recommend this cosy and clean restaurant! Wish we could eat here everyday. read more

We saw a review on Yelp saying the pupusas are like the kind made by someone's abuelita. We had to stop. The pupusas were excellent. I don't even like cabbage and I was loving the cabbage. The salsa's were delicious. We also ordered the fajitas and they were excellent. For dessert we ordered the fried plantains with cream. Perfect ending. Also the server was very nice and attentive. All in all an excellent lunch. Hope to be back! read more
