However, based on the drought of medical professionals in Austin, I doubt one might find anything better here anytime soon.

From the moment the doctor came into the room, she made virtually no eye contact with me and seemed completely uninterested in listening to my concerns about my health. I left feeling dismissed, unheard, and as though my questions were an inconvenience to her. When I asked questions, her responses and demeanor made me feel as though I should already know the answers or that my concerns were common sense. No patient should be made to feel uncomfortable for asking questions about their own health. Part of being a healthcare provider is making patients feel heard, respected, and comfortable enough to advocate for themselves. What makes this even more frustrating is how long patients often have to wait for an appointment and how hard we work to afford healthcare, only to finally be seen and walk away feeling like we didn't matter. I work in healthcare myself, and I would never want a patient to feel the way I felt after this appointment. After reading other reviews describing very similar experiences with this doctor, I'm even more disappointed that these concerns appear to be an ongoing issue. If a provider has reached a point where showing basic compassion, patience, and concern for their patients feels like a burden, then perhaps it is time to reconsider whether patient care is still the right profession for them. I sincerely hope the practice takes this feedback seriously because patients deserve providers who listen, communicate, and treat their health concerns with respect.

I'm surprised there aren't any reviews of her yet - she runs a small practice but she's a big deal. My first appointment with her was last fall. I was overdue for my annual and, like any normal human being, wasn't looking forward to it. A good friend recommended her with a glowing review. My intention was to call the office, just to ask if she was accepting new patients (she only accepts 600-800 so I figured my chances of getting in were slim). Much to my surprise, Dr. Sorensen was the one to answer the phone! That impressed me enough that I scheduled an appointment for the next week. My first impression of Dr. Sorensen was excellent, and things only got better from there. She literally does everything - she is a one-woman staff, which means she does everything from checking your vitals to dealing with insurance. This approach means that you get to spend more time with her, which means that you feel like anything but just another patient. She also takes a conservative approach to medicine, so when I told her about my occasional anxiety, she recommended things like yoga instead of jumping to more invasive/expensive treatments. Best part of my experience with her? I ended up having a bit of follow-up work the next day, and was obviously concerned about the results. She got back to me the next morning to let me know all was OK and thoroughly explain everything. And the day after that, I got my pap results back. That's right...TWO DAYS after my appointment I got my pap results! I'm used to waiting a minimum of two weeks. She called as soon as she got the results because she didn't want me to worry longer than I needed to...wow. If you are looking for a doctor who uses modern technology (online scheduling, mostly paperless, etc.) but won't provide you with the typical, cold doctor's experience, I strongly recommend Dr. Sorensen.

My initial visit was very through and the Dr took as much time as was needed to understand my medical history, make suggestions, ask questions and actually sit down and have a conversation! He was friendly, took the time to talk to me about what might have caused my injury and, because of his friendly and careful questioning, I realized the cause might have been something totally different than I had anticipated. He gave me a range of solutions and helped me pick the most appropriate one for me. Then he took some time to help me understand the best exercises I could do on my own to rehab and at what point I should come back in if it's not getting better. Overall, there was the expected delay in getting to me with an end-of-day, same-day appointment, but it was well well worth the wait.
