I am starting to realize that eating out at some restaurants is just not worth it anymore. $62 (before tip) for 3 items (burrito, tostada, and nachos), and only water. The food was just okay. You would think that for those prices, the restaurant can invest a $1 (thier cost) and throw in some chips and salsa to make people a little happy while we wait for food. Nope. You have to pay for them now. Even a toqueria provides chips and a salsa bar as part of your purchase, and their menu is still cheaper than this restaurant. It is highly likely that we will not come back anytime soon or at all. read more

There is a reason this restaurant was voted the favorite Mexican Restaurant ten years in a row. Although this was our first time here, we will definitely return. We arrived shortly after 2pm and I had my heart set on Huevos Rancheros and happily I was able to order them. Pedro our server was fantastic! I love this place! My Mother and I are currently enjoying the most delicious food in a warm al fresco ambiance. Our waiter is just lovely and gracious and the food and drinks are fabulous! My Mother ordered the 19th Hole Margarita which she says is excellent! I ordered sangria, Though not the Spanish style I expected it tastes incredible! Pedro was our server and he did an amazing job. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. Pedro went above and beyond for our son, he asked for some fruit and they they typically do not serve fruit but they had some from Mother's Day brunch and he brought a plate of fruit out for my son. My experience here was great. The atmosphere is very spacious so you don't feel cramped. Our waiter also checked in on our table maybe 4-5 times, to which I give credit for effort. I read some other people got charged for chips and salsa but ours was free. I got plenty of refills on the salsa with no charge, although didn't try getting more chips so not sure if that would be extra. The food was really good, better than most Mexican restaurants I'd say, at least what we got. I highly recommend the shrimp tacos. The shrimp was grilled just right and the cilantro sauce went really well with the whole thing. The enchiladas tasted good too. Of course the meal had a lot of oil but that's typical of Mexican food. Used to be better. The margaritas are still strong but my jalapeno marg only had two tiny specks of jalapeno and barely any flavor. I've had tons of these here and know what I should be getting. The food was never stellar here but it was always pretty good. I'm only enchilada this time was just okay and the rice and beans were not very flavorful. a definite drop off from years past. might be just an off night. The chips and salsa and the service for both good. had to drop one star on this one. read more

We haven't been to this place because of the mixed reviews but we decided to give it a try. The menu offered a variety of choices. The service was excellent and the overall vibe of the restaurant was festive and upbeat. The bar is big and they do have a happy hour but we were there for dinner. The reason why I gave 4 vs 5 stars is the food, particularly the rice. We had the Mexican rice and the cilantro rice and they were mushy and the taste was just not to my liking. Dropped in after a walk and realized that it was noon. Time to eat! They have a large outdoor dining area. Servers were attentive, but gave us our privacy. (I didn't tell them, but it was our first date!) I asked if the volume of music could be turned down, and it was done immediately. I had tortilla soup, which was excellent, with plenty of avocado, cotija cheese and chicken. I really liked the tortilla strips that topped the bowl. The other diner had a burrito. Came here on a Friday evening. The place was pretty busy but we were sat right away and greeted by friendly staff. The chips, salsa and guacamole is literally my favorite! So much flavor and by far my most favorite guacamole. The server was fast, fun and friendly. The bartender was great and very personable! The food came out quick and was insanely fresh. The chicken was so moist and everything had lots of flavor. Hands down the best carnitas in the area! 10/10 would recommend this place to everyone. Will be back over and over again. read more

This restaurant is truly one of a kind for not only its food and atmosphere, but also the service. My family of five, which included three children under the age of five, dined here and to say that we were satisfied by the experience is an understatement. We had the pleasure of being served dinner and desert by Mario, and while the food was exceptional it was Mario that made our experience one to remember. Mario was attentive to our table to entire time, while juggling several other tables as well. If we were not paying attention we would have believed he was only serving us. You can tell he cares about the patrons experience at this restaurant, and genuinely wants to assist in any way he can to make your experience a success. Just finished a work lunch here with 9 of us and i was slightly disappointed after seeing some of the reviews for this place. It is a pretty restaurant, located right by the Folsom Lake Dam. Interior is colorful and inviting. I like the "pinata" lights above the bar. PRO before I begin: The waitresses were very friendly, inviting and pleasant. We made reservations and were seated promptly. There was salsa waiting for us on the tables. Chips came soon after. We also added 2 large orders of Guacamole. Chips and salsa were very delicious and made in house. Guacamole was bland in flavor, so we all ended up adding salt to it. Some even mixed in the salsa for added flavor. I ordered the Carnitas Michoacan. Carnitas were dry and way to crispy, refried beans were thick due to excessive cheese that was added. Mexican rice was actually good. I asked for a small side of the Tortilla Soup, which came about 5 minutes after my entree, and was bland. Bland is the common denominator across the board from what everyone in our party said... My co-worker ordered the Chicken in Chipotle Sauce. I almost ordered this as well, due to intriguing name and description. It was the opposite of what we both expected. We expected the smokey chipotle flavor, DUH, but what we got was excessively smokey with a weird aftertaste that didn't blend well with the other seasonings in the dish. Rice was nothing to brag about (bland). Black beans came in a separate bowl and also about 5 minutes after the entree arrived; they needed salt (so again, they were bland). Only thing I heard tasted good was the Tacos Sinaloenses. These are stuffed with a meat of your choice, along with mashed potatoes. 2 of the 9 guests had these and liked them. I didn't try them myself, so I cannot speak to them. All in all, we could have saved all the money spent on our lunch here and gone to a taqueria or even taco truck and had better quality and flavorful food. Would I come back? We stopped in for lunch after hearing mixed reviews. We loved it. The service was great from being seated to our server. We loved their salsa. I think it's one of the best we have had in Folsom by far. I ordered a chicken fajita salad that was so good. The chicken was seasoned so well. My husband got the chicken mole which he loved. I'm not a fan so I'll take his word for it. The restaurant was clean and cute. We'll be back! read more

My husband, friends and I and really like this restaurant. The food is pretty good, the portions are perfect and servers are friendly. Sometimes the bar gets backed up and drinks take a while. They have a nice patio, and the restaurant is nicely decorated. The only issue we have with Mexquite is that it closes too early. 8 PM on a Sunday? We like to go out and dine without feeling rushed, especially when we are with friends. 8 PM is a ridiculous time to close on the weekend. We wanted to go there tonight with a few friends, but chose another restaurant because of the early closing hour. Hopefully they will be changing their hours soon. A lot of restaurants closed early during Covid, but have started to extend their hours like before. read more

Ordered one burrito and a tamale, tamale came ice cold in the middle with a terrible texture, obvious that this was pre-made and potentially microwaved (Outside was hot, inside ice cold with thick weird texture). We have not been to Mexquite for over a year and I am now reminded why. Went back yesterday because we were crunched for time and it was close. I order steak and shrimp fajitas and the minute I saw the plate arrive I knew it was a mistake. Steak was cut in tiny strips, not very tender and flavorless. Shrimp was the small shrimp, pale and again, NO FLAVOR. The peppers and onion's dominated the dish in a bad way. It had zero flavor and there was no evidence of any Mexican fajita spices at all. For $29.00, I expected much better. Had one small fajita burrito and that sealed the deal for me. Never again will I ever patronize mexquite again. My husband's dish was terrible as well- it was swimming in grease and bland too. *For truly amazing Mexican food continue to Taqueria Alteña in Folsom and enjoy great food!! Mexquite used to be very good years ago but clearly have declined in quality- probably the reason why they were very empty during lunch time. read more

I gave it a 3 because I remember how good it was, but my meal was awful! I ordered a Mexquite burrito, which had 5 ingredients. My waiter was named Cheuy (I think he was the problem, not the chef). He didn't understand the meaning of "no meat." He thought I meant "no ingredients." I had a $20 pocket of beans and cheese! Every time I have had this waiter, he has gotten the meal completely wrong! When I ask for one ingredient left out, that doesn't mean I want no ingredients. If I have that waiter again, I am just going to leave and not order! read more

We like the location and atmosphere, but it's very expensive and the food is mediocre. They ask if you want chips and salsa, but don't mention they charge by the basket. Was just driving around Folsom looking for a place to eat and stumbled across this Gem! The food and service were exceptional. The ambience was great and will definitely make it back to try some other menu items. We live about 40 minutes away and there are plenty of other Mexican food restaurants closer but this is the best. The salsa is to die for, I'm going to inquire next time here if a can purchase some. read more

As you all know Holidays can be stressful. Entertaining on the holidays can make even more hectic. I decided to get some time back in my day and order a taco bar from Mesquite and I'm so glad I did. Not only was the food delicious it saved me a ton of time (and sanity). Here are some other things they did well which will have me ordering catering from Mesquite for many more gatherings at our home. - food was ready and hot on time as agreed upon - the sides like salsa, limes, cilantro and onions were more than enough for all our tacos. - we had tons of meat choices, we ordered carnitas, chicken, and pastor all were very tasty. read more

While the steak nachos and salsa were delicious, the collection of negative incidents have stopped us from wanting to return. When we came in, the host ignored us and helped the person behind us, despite us already waiting 5 minutes prior. Then, I witnessed her wipe her nose on her hand prior to grabbing the silverware for the party ahead of us. My food was amazing! Ordered the two combo plate and they were able to give me a mole enchilada instead of a regular which was phenomenal . The chile relleno was fantastic. The poblano was perfectly cooked....Crunchy not overdone and watery like other places. Beans and rice were on point. (See photo for the real deal). The house margarita was a little too sweet and could have used more tequila. But it was definitely tasted house-made and not from a mix. I think I will upgrade to the fancier margaritas next time to get the tequila taste I'm looking for. All in all ...we will return! read more

This was the first restaurant that I tried when I moved to Folsom four years ago, and I remember not liking it at all. I don't know why, but my wife and I decided to give this place another shot yesterday, and I am glad that we did. We were greeted and seated promptly, and the chips and salsa arrived a few minutes later. Truth be told, I am not a fan of their smoky salsa. In my opinion , it is lacking any real flavor or heat. For dinner, I chose the tacos sinaloense with rice and whole pinto beans -instead of re-fried. If you have never tried mashed potato tacos- you are missing out. As a bonus, seasoned shredded beef accompanies the layer of mashed potatoes inside a fried tortilla shell.. Wow- I consider these tacos one of the best I have tried in the Sacramento area. I just wish Mexquite had better salsa options to add to them. The rice was seasoned perfectly, but the whole beans needed a little salt added. My wife ordered the tortilla soup , and it was delicious. There was plenty of shredded chicken and avocado pieces swimming around to make this a meal in itself, I also liked the roasted corn throughout which gave the soup a boost in flavor. My only small complaint was that the soup came out warm -not hot. The staff was friendly, and attentive during our visit. The menu is priced fairly, and the food is fresh and delicious. For now, my rating stands at a solid 3 stars. I would like to try different menu items to really check out what this place has to offer. read more

Note to Owner or Management: I would highly recommend training staff to address customers when they walk in. A friend and I went in for lunch today and had 4 servers and a bartender completely ignore us for 10 minutes. We almost walked out. Rude and completely unacceptable. Then we had to wait for another 10 minutes for them to clean a table (the place was "not" busy). I was just sharing my experience with a friend and they said they had the same experience. We, as consumers have a choice in where we go.....you can do better. You can do "much" better. ESPECIALLY in times like these. read more

Hearing that this was an excellent Mexican restaurant, my wife and I stopped for lunch recently. First of all, there was NO LUNCH MENUE which was a big disappointment and no free chips. Chips and very bland as was the salsa and cost $3. Waitstaff throughout our lunch were adequate but not friendly at all. My wife got the Mesquite Burrito which she said had little flavor and though large, was cold on the inside and tasteless. She ate third of it and left the rest. A few hours later, she became ill and attributed it to her lunch entree. My lunch was a chicken fajita that didn't sizzle upon arrival, upon tasting it or later when re-heated. Like the burrito, it was tasteless with some of the toughest chicken I've ever tasted! Bottom line: NOT RECOMMENDED. Taco Bell would be a better choice and a lot cheaper. With tax and tip it came to $40.00 plus. Never again. read more
