Not so Happy Mother's Day to me! Sadly I will be avoiding this place after today. They admit that they usually are open until 9:00 pm. Their google page says they are open until 9:00 pm. When we show up at 8:30 pm their restaurant is full but they say they closed early and would not allow us in. I'm there with my 2 year old and 4 year old and my husband for Mother's Day dinner. That's bad customer service. We've been to this location at least 2 dozen times... it's hit and miss... but this experience just turned me off of this restaurant. I asked the server who helped us last time where their hours were that are usually listed on their door, they played dumb. They knew they took it down because they were closing early. I guess they don't really care about their loyal customers. It's sad. I'm now on my way to Casa Ramos down the way where they do care about their customers! read more

We have been going to this restaurant about 6 times a year since it opened ...last night when we got our bill there was a $2.99 charge on the bill for chips and salsa ....this is never happened before... we weren't asked if we wanted chips and salsa for $2.99 they were just brought to the table as they always have been. Mind you, the price is not the issue here... if the menu said chips and salsa $2.99 or $3.99 or whatever, we would have ordered them... we like their chips and salsa... but to have it put on the bill without even telling us is the real issue. When we asked the manager about it as we were leaving, we were informed that it was due to Covid. That's understandable; lots of places have to make changes, maybe even price increases ....but sneaking something onto a bill....not cool. read more

I will start by saying that I used to love this place. Their tortilla soup was always a fantastic go-to for me. However, I will say I have been quite disappointed in my last couple of experiences. Speaking to my most recent visit, I ordered tortilla soup and the arroz con pollo. The soup just isn't the same as it used to be. It didn't taste fresh, almost thick and gloopy like it's been reheated too many times. Also, next to no chicken, corn, cheese. It honestly was not good at all. The arroz con polo had good flavor, but absolutely no chicken in it! I had to pick through the rice to find tiny street taco sized pieces of chicken. I would bet there was less than a tacos worth of meat. Pathetic, especially for about a $40 meal!! They also charge $3.50 for tiny chips and salsa, which typically is complementary. Honestly, I've tried to give them another chance but that's it for me. So dissatisfied and disappointed. read more

I have been going to Mexquite for years. Unfortunately, my recent trip will be my last. I was excited to have a nice dinner with my girlfriend to celebrate our recent new jobs, I made a reservation a day ahead and could not wait. Upon arrival, there was a line of people without reservations. I went inside and told the waiter I had one. The look I got was weird, he looked at me as if I was lying. When I repeated my statement, he went to look at the iPad. After about 5 minutes, I was completely ignored and he went on to help other customers. I got his attention again and showed my confirmation text, I was told to wait and then I will be helped. After waiting about 20 minutes, I went back inside furious to ask why I kept being ignored. They proceeded to get me a table and take our orders. Aside from the terrible customer service, the food was worse than before. It was cold and felt like it had been sitting out before being brought to me. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had eating at a restaurant, and I hope something is done about the awful customer service. read more

They are very inconsistent. We've have excellent meals there and terrible meals. I've ordered the tortilla soup 4 times and all 4 times, it was completely different. We just ordered takeout and after $46 dollars, we would have been more satisfied with Taco Bell. The carnitas plate was dry, the fish ceviche was essentially pico de gallo with a few pieces of shrimp, and the crispy taco plate was deconstructed for take out but had the tiniest portion of beef and stale tortillas (the crispy tortillas you'd get in a box). They forgot my beans and rice as well. It was worth less than $10. This was not restaurant quality food. What a waste. We won't be returning. read more

I came here for lunch the other day after walking on the nearby trails. I actually really enjoyed it. It's sort of watered down Mexican like you might find at a Chevy's, so don't come here looking for anything super authentic. The menu has the standard fare but nothing too wild. A couple salad options, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, etc. I opted for the taco plate with chicken tacos. The tacos had potato in addition to the chicken, which was an interesting and delicious combination. It didn't have any produce which was kind of odd. They had a little pile of lettuce off to the side, but the tacos themselves were potato and chicken with crema. Anyway, very tasty. Rice and beans were nothing special, but good enough. We didn't have drinks or anything but they do appear to have a full bar. I appreciate that they have a nice, dog friendly patio out back. We came with two dogs and a baby, and our waitress didn't bat an eye. 3 meals set us back $40, so totally reasonable prices as well. I'll come back. read more

I do not frequent here as much as I used to. The quality has been slipping over the years. The guacamole is the best thing on the menu. The food has generous portions. But, my last visit I order a Margarita blended. It first came out with the ice crushed, not blended. I sent it back to get it blended. When it came back, it was blended, but the flavor was horrid. As a long time bar employee, it was easy for me to tell that they had not included Triple Sec ( or they use Gran Gala VSOP Orange Liqueur). I complained, but nothing was done. My first experience here was really great. The food is a refreshing take on traditional Mexican fare. Bordering on gourmet quality in my opinion. If you're looking for Chevy's or local taqueria flavors look elsewhere, but if your looking for something new and fresh it's worth the trip. One of the first restaurants we've visited since the reopening due to covid-19. Had only been here one time before and it was actually the day before the Sac County shelter in place went in order. Now that we can venture out again...we wanted a good mexican happy hour! Our bad...we should have checked out the website....sadly, they do not have a happy hour. Oh well...I had a skinny margarita that was delicious! BF had a beer, both at full price. We were offered chips and salsa for $5! Yikes....probably will be our deal breaker going back...the salsa is just okay. We ordered our food...potato tacos for BF. Yum! We ordered them last time, but this time...SO much better. I ordered a cup of tortilla soup and a street taco with grilled chicken. Both were great. The place is highly overbooked resulting in blocked aisles, huge lines (For buffets) and overall congestion and chaos which the servers are obviously unprepared to handle. We used to love it, but the last few times were so disappointing. The food has become bland and the service slow. We've kept going back hoping we were just having bad luck. This critique is mainly on the bar.... My wife and I went to Mexquite with some new neighbor friends last night. My friends wanted a basic margarita and we talked them into getting a Don Julio reposado margo. (Better tequila than the base drink on the menu). Our friends said..ok...let's order the better drink. Our server was adamant about ordering a pitcher! Almost insisted that we buy a pitcher. I know that cocktails from plastic pitchers are not usually as good as individually made drinks. I know that bars frequently short pour when the customer orders a pitcher. But I stayed quite and agreed on getting the pitcher. Big mistake..... The cocktail was basically ice and lime juice. We (wife and I) could taste NO tequila; just lime juice. Had I not been with a couple of new friends, I would have sent the drink back and ordered a non-mixed drinks (ie beer or wine). (A Don Julio reposado margarita would contain a tequila that is aged 8 months and has a straw coloring. Don Julio is my favorite tequila and it was absent from our drink. There is a trend in the bar/restaurant to water down drinks and/or short pour them. As we all know...restaurants make most of their profit from the selling of alcohol. But my wife and felt totally ripped off but I said nothing because we were with some nice, new friends. At least the dinner was ok. I'd give it a rating of 3. The best of all four dinners was my wife's shrimp enchiladas. read more

We love Mexican food! We were drawn to online pictures of the patio. The pictures were very festive and inviting. We were extremely disappointed. The food was extremely bland and not very tasty. My husband had chicken fajitas and I ordered the chicken enchiladas. I also ordered guacamole. ($4.00 extra) I make better guacamole at home. My wife and I always love lunch dates here. I love the chile relleno--especially love that it's not breaded. The salsa is the best in town in our opinion. The ceviche is very good. Guac is fresh. Lots of fun margaritas to choose from. Always clean and nice and cool inside. The music isn't my favorite (authentic but sometimes too loud), but it doesn't bother me enough to give it a low rating. Hi I had dinner here tonight I ordered tortilla soup it looks so good on the menu with the photo when the server brought it didn't look anything like the menu I it was a greasy broth with a little bit a chicken in it a little A few chunks of cheese and a few tortilla strips the waiter never came back I ate what was inside witch only where a little and sent back all the broth I told the waiter but I still got charged $13 for a bowl of nothing soup needless to say I won't be ever going back here read more

The two star rating is based on today's experience. I've dined here a handful of times in the years since it's opened. I've always had a overall decent experience. Tonight we ordered take out to enjoy a relaxing night in. We ordered the combo appetizer, yay soggy nachos and soggy cheese quesadilla. We tried to add chicken to the quesadilla but was told that couldn't be done because it's pre made. I'm sorry, I don't understand... you have chicken + you're making a quesadilla... how about putting them together??? Mind blown! Ha We also ordered a combo dish of chili rellano, enchiladas etc. which came with rice and beans EVERYTHING WAS SOGGY! The only thing that had any crunch to it was the separate tortilla chips but even those were not all that tasty.
