    Seafood soup

I visited Mexiven for a weekday lunch. I wasn't quite sure where to park in the weird lot, but no one else was there. Walking inside I really felt like I was transported to Mexico which is a good thing when looking for authentic Mexican food. The lady at the front that took my order suggested changing the shrimp soup into a mixed seafood soup. The soup wasn't cheap at $16, but it did have a ton of meat and really large shrimp. It came with a side of corn taco shells. It was a very good meal. I'd stop by again for an authentic lunch.

A little hole in the wall/hidden gem. The twist is Mexican/Venezuelan food on the menu. Go up to the little window in the left hand corner to place your order. The food being delivered to the guests next to me looked amazing. The complimentary chips and salsa were excellent. I ordered (street tacos) 3 chicken and 3 carne asada with cilantro and onion. Needless to say...they were fantabulous. Now on the flip side. They don't exactly have a menu. I mean hey have pictures posted of items you can order and written specials on the board. No prices on anything either. So I was a little shocked when I saw my bill was $21.45 for 6 tacos.

Okay. I saw reviews about this place having no Spicy food. They do have Mexican food, but I talked to one of the ladies, and she is from Guatemala. They had Guatemalan tamales! After I saw that, I was no longer expecting Mexican food. Lots of places in Central America do not do spicy. I almost wish that they had more Guatemalan food The food was amazing. My sweet Gringo husband said that the tacos were better than "a well known restaurant in Nashville". And that's a win, okay!!! So y'all get your tooshies to this place. They have a food truck across from Cedars of Lebanon state park, and that's where we went. I think they have a brick and mortar in another city.

Mexiven I believe started off as taco truck and now they have their own place where you could sit down and eat. This place is really good and decent enough to satisfy my authentic cravings!!! Pricing: the pricing compared to other places is right in the middle. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive. I think it's just right in the middle and for what you're getting as well. I don't mind it! Food: oh my! First off, the homemade sauces they give you with your meal is soooooooo good and to die for. The avocado sauce is the reason why I keep going back, and the corn tortillas!! Theirs something about their sauces that I love so much and I love how it's enough spicy! I wasn't a big fan of the soup but the tacos and Torta is good. Overall experience: it's not my first place to pick, but it's somewhere I would go back for sure! Love their sauces and can't get enough of it.

Chicken, barbacoa and suadero tacos; Sauces from left: tomatillo, avocado chili and red chili.

This is one of my favorite Sunday morning restaurants when you are dying for a great Caldo de Mariscos and a Michelada. Hair of the dog.

Simple, family-owned hole in the wall restaurant serving up Mexican-Venezuelan food. Everything our group ordered was fresh and yummy.

I popped in one day after running errands around Murfreesboro and when I first saw that it was an old BK converted into Mexican restaurant, I thought to myself this is either going to be distrusting or delicious, and lucky for me it was the latter! El Cubilete serves up authentic Mexican food, and while you can still get the classics you are used to, they focus a lot on the true Mexican classics. Being the gringo I am, I went with my tried and true chicken, rice and cheese sided with some chori-queso. While the order was basic, the food itself was not. The queso, chips, chicken, tortillas and everything was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious. To with the food, they brought out their house red and green sauce. SPICY is an understatement, but I could handle in small dabs, and through that realized while the green was milder, the red had better flavor. But honestly it was lose-lose for me with those sauces. In addition to the food, they have a small drink menu with beers, frozen drinks and a solid selection of agua frescas. Service was stellar. The owner was super kind, welcoming me in, checking on me during my meal and ultimately ringing me out. All the servers were friendly and helpful. Overall, odd layout and set up, along with service being communal (everyone serves everyone together), which is a bit odd...but even with all that, the food and service speak up and stand alone. Great spot with good folks and tasty food! I would certainly swing back through when in Murfreesboro.

Taqueria Lupita is a great spot nestled inside a gas station market. As soon as we walked in, I knew we were in for a treat. The smell of meat on the griddle and the aroma of toasted tortillas met our noses and it made my mouth instantly start salivating. The team behind the counter was working fast and got our order out super quick. I opted for a chicken burrito and it took all of my self control to keep from eating it on the drive home. But like all great explorers of old, we had to take our bounty back to the motherland for all to enjoy. I cut it open and see what the cross section looked like, and it was practically perfect. I forgot to ask for avocado, so that's on me. We got the red and green salsas with it and they were both great. I loved the roasty undertones and heat of the red salsa. The first bite of this burrito took me back to another place, far from Tennessee. It was a glorious first bite. The melty cheese, the rice, beans and the chicken combined to make the most delicious symphony of flavors. I can't say enough good things about this burrito, you have to try it for yourself. I'm eager to try more things on their menu, especially the torta, it looked amazing.

As soon as we saw the (previously Oakland) Raiders logo, we knew it was gonna be good! I got the steak (asada) burrito - it came with rice, beans, meat, sour cream, and lettuce. If I had to give a critique, I'd say it's just missing a little guac. But oh my word, this burrito transported me right back to California! The flavors were spot on, the ratios were perfect. It may have taken us five years, but we finally found a Mexican spot that will definitely be in our rotation. It's located inside a small gas station, which confused us at first. But once we walked in, it was clear where to order. Both guys working seemed extremely kind and helpful, and overall just happy to be serving people incredible food.

It appeared that they had a group of people in the center of the restaurant whom everyone was trying to take care of. The taste of the food in all honesty was 1 step above Taco Bell, and I love some Taco Bell, so that isn't a dis at all. My boyfriend and I both had burritos, mine had carnitas and his had the option of ground beef and chicken. He said the chicken was so bland, that the only way he knew it was there is that it fell out of the burrito. Would I go back, yes, because it reminded me of when I lived in Chattanooga.

I arrived and my server Raquel got me set up with a beer and brought me some chips and salsa. The Pozole Verde is HUGE, enough for three people because I was only able to make a small dent in it. The chips were crispy and the salsa surprised me, great flavor! The Pozole is a rich stew loaded a solid green tomatillo/chile broth, shredded chicken, hominy, while you add the sides of radish, lime juice, lettuce, cilantro, and onions. The spice level (I am a wimp) on this stew is close to the top of my range causing some sweating and sniffles. The downside...the furnishing could use some rehab.
