The taste of the food in all honesty was 1 step above Taco Bell, and I love some Taco Bell, so that isn't a dis at all. My boyfriend and I both had burritos, mine had carnitas and his had the option of ground beef and chicken. A friend told me El Toro Mexican Restaurant served Pozole Verde...something I've been searching for in Murfreesboro. I arrived and my server Raquel got me set up with a beer and brought me some chips and salsa. The Pozole Verde is HUGE, enough for three people because I was only able to make a small dent in it. The chips were crispy and the salsa surprised me, great flavor! The Pozole is a rich stew loaded a solid green tomatillo/chile broth, shredded chicken, hominy, while you add the sides of radish, lime juice, lettuce, cilantro, and onions. The spice level (I am a wimp) on this stew is close to the top of my range causing some sweating and sniffles. The downside...the furnishing could use some rehab. 4.5 stars I thought it was pretty good. I came during lunch hours on a weekend and it wasn't busy at all. We got seated right away. They took our drink orders and brought us out some salsa and chips. I'm real big on salsa so they got me right when I tried their salsa. The salsa was very flavorful. On top of that, they had a salsa bar you can just walk up to so you can grab more hot sauces if you'd like to add to your salsa. I came when they had their birria ramen for their special. I saw it on the board when I walked in so we ordered it. The broth was very flavorful, and the meat was very soft and tender. The ramen they used was also very yummy. It came with some garnishes, radish, and chilli oil on the side. liked it a lot. I also tried their nachos. It usually comes with their cheese sauce, but I asked to replace it with shredded cheese. It was such a big portion that I couldn't even finish it. I feel like it's something that could feed two people. I asked for my beans on the side and that's exactly what they did. The nachos comes with both chicken and ground beef. The service here was amazing. The person that us and our server were both so nice. This has been our first and only experience but I'm so disappointed in El Toro. Before anyone gets upset.....Yes, I did contact them. But I'd like to warn anyone who may want to have a party there..... I had spoken with the restaurant through email and facebook to set up a taco bar for a 16th dinner party (2 adults, 13 teens). We walked in just before 6pm for our 6pm reservation and were met with blank stares. The restaurant was empty. No one was sure what was going on. Someone from back said they're the party and we were walked into the "party room" - it looked NOTHING like the website. It was "repainted" but the whole place felt dirty and disorganized. There was a huge hole in the ceiling with buckets underneath and while we were eating, more of the ceiling fell. The tables were sticky, it was mismatched tables and crooked chairs, the ceiling was literally falling down, and to top it off, the tables weren't even set up in a way that would accommodate the whole party. It wasn't set up for us at all (I did let them know a final headcount the night before so that the seating would be arranged.) As we were trying to seat 15 people, 4 waitresses came in to get drink orders. It was very chaotic. It ended up that 2 of the girls had ordered large bowls of queso (they're 15) from a random waitress and they brought it out. This was not supposed to happen as there was a set menu. I did order a large queso (because who can have a taco bar without it) and ordered a $23 catering size. When the bill came, I had $40 in queso charges. There was also a catering fee (I was told it was for the chafing dishes, supplies, personnel but it would be waived if I had a waitress and paid the gratuity) - I of course paid the 18% in gratuity, then added cash, pieces of cake and cookies for the staff. When I asked about the catering, the waitress said she couldn't take it off. I asked through the FB messenger along with my concerns of the roof falling, sticky tables, etc. and was told that that wasn't true that I used ONE chafing dish so of course there was a catering fee. That's not what was said or agreed upon beforehand at all. I'd also like to say that the waitress was fantastic. She was working our room and the bar/tables, which was a lot! I did mention the ceiling to her and she told me there was a leak. I get it, but then move the party somewhere else. There were plenty of people waiting around beforehand that should have noticed it and set the party up somewhere else. It wasn't my responsibility to request that. Here's my big issues: it's bad enough that the space was completely misrepresented; it was worse when a ceiling tile fell down while we were sitting there eating (and the FB msg person tried to tell me that it wasn't an issue, the tile didn't fall, and it wasn't true but please see pics), but then the additional costs and brush off are just annoying and rude. I'm a single mom so this party that was supposed to be about around $200 ($10/per person) ended up being over $325. The food was fine but it tasted like every other Mexican restaurant in town, nothing special. It was our first and unfortunately our last at this establishment. ------------------------------------------------ Not important but also annoying: I also forgot to give them my phone number (that was attached to the reservation) when the bill came since they have loyalty points. When I asked about it later, I was told that they couldn't add it because it was considered a catering order (but if I had ordered online, I would have gotten the points). read more

Canme here cause we were in the mood to have some margaritas and sangrias for happy hour. The margaritas were good size and decent amount of alcohol. The food was a different story. My food which was the Pollo Loco was bland amd tasted like they just got thick slices of chicken meat from the deli which left it dry, the rice was super salty and the beans were super thick and no flavor so I barely ate much of my meal. My husband got the carnitas which he liked but still agreed that the beans and rice were salty and bland. This place was not busy in the slights at 4 pm so maybe that should of been a big clue about the food. Staff really wasn't friendly or welcoming either. So it's been 9 months, I was missing the salsa bar so I convinced my husband to go back. Mistake, big mistake. The salsa bar was baaaad, nothing tasted good. The service was ok, but it just seemed like no one was happy to be there. Almost no customers which wasn't that bad because it was 2pm. I've been here on two occasions. My first visit went great. I ordered a mango margarita on the rocks. Nice flavor, not too strong and not too weak. We also asked for guac and jalapeño sauce. The guac was chunky. The jalapeño sauce had nice flavor and decent spice but was a little thinner than I prefer. I ordered tacos - steak, chorizo, al pastor, and carnitas. Steak, chorizo, and al pastor were good but not amazing. I've had better. The carnitas were super dry. My boyfriend got spinach enchiladas and enjoyed them. My second visit was disappointing . I asked for the jalapeño sauce. They didn't have it. Bummer because that's why I chose to go here that day. So days that they have the sauce is inconsistent, which is unfortunate. I ordered shrimp tacos. It was three tacos with three very tiny shrimps in each taco... I wasn't full and it didn't taste great at all. The rice was bland. The sauce didn't go with the tacos. Finally got a chance to try it out and I went for a favorite dish I like to try--shrimp ceviche. Unfortunately, I was not too impressed about it. The good--quantity. There was plenty for a meal and it was filling. The not so good--flavor and appearance. It had way too much black pepper which overpowered the entire taste. It didn't have a real fresh look and the garnish didn't help it at all. Also had the jalapeño queso which didn't seem much different than any other Mexican restaurant. She came back after a couple minutes asking if we were ready to order and we asked for a couple more minutes and ended up waiting around 10 minutes for her to come back and take our order. It wasn't busy in the restaurant at the time, so there were only about 3 other tables. Service started off strong but declined as the night went on. We got our food quite quickly and it was good! I got chicken, cheese, and rice (basic I know) and the chicken was wonderful and my only suggestion would be more queso. The chips and salsa were also phenomenal! Some of the best I've had!
