This has been our first and only experience but I'm so disappointed in El Toro. Before anyone gets upset.....Yes, I did contact them. But I'd like to warn anyone who may want to have a party there..... I had spoken with the restaurant through email and facebook to set up a taco bar for a 16th dinner party (2 adults, 13 teens). We walked in just before 6pm for our 6pm reservation and were met with blank stares. The restaurant was empty. No one was sure what was going on. Someone from back said they're the party and we were walked into the "party room" - it looked NOTHING like the website. It was "repainted" but the whole place felt dirty and disorganized. There was a huge hole in the ceiling with buckets underneath and while we were eating, more of the ceiling fell. The tables were sticky, it was mismatched tables and crooked chairs, the ceiling was literally falling down, and to top it off, the tables weren't even set up in a way that would accommodate the whole party. It wasn't set up for us at all (I did let them know a final headcount the night before so that the seating would be arranged.) As we were trying to seat 15 people, 4 waitresses came in to get drink orders. It was very chaotic. It ended up that 2 of the girls had ordered large bowls of queso (they're 15) from a random waitress and they brought it out. This was not supposed to happen as there was a set menu. I did order a large queso (because who can have a taco bar without it) and ordered a $23 catering size. When the bill came, I had $40 in queso charges. There was also a catering fee (I was told it was for the chafing dishes, supplies, personnel but it would be waived if I had a waitress and paid the gratuity) - I of course paid the 18% in gratuity, then added cash, pieces of cake and cookies for the staff. When I asked about the catering, the waitress said she couldn't take it off. I asked through the FB messenger along with my concerns of the roof falling, sticky tables, etc. and was told that that wasn't true that I used ONE chafing dish so of course there was a catering fee. That's not what was said or agreed upon beforehand at all. I'd also like to say that the waitress was fantastic. She was working our room and the bar/tables, which was a lot! I did mention the ceiling to her and she told me there was a leak. I get it, but then move the party somewhere else. There were plenty of people waiting around beforehand that should have noticed it and set the party up somewhere else. It wasn't my responsibility to request that. Here's my big issues: it's bad enough that the space was completely misrepresented; it was worse when a ceiling tile fell down while we were sitting there eating (and the FB msg person tried to tell me that it wasn't an issue, the tile didn't fall, and it wasn't true but please see pics), but then the additional costs and brush off are just annoying and rude. I'm a single mom so this party that was supposed to be about around $200 ($10/per person) ended up being over $325. The food was fine but it tasted like every other Mexican restaurant in town, nothing special. It was our first and unfortunately our last at this establishment. ------------------------------------------------ Not important but also annoying: I also forgot to give them my phone number (that was attached to the reservation) when the bill came since they have loyalty points. When I asked about it later, I was told that they couldn't add it because it was considered a catering order (but if I had ordered online, I would have gotten the points). read more

Canme here cause we were in the mood to have some margaritas and sangrias for happy hour. The margaritas were good size and decent amount of alcohol. The food was a different story. My food which was the Pollo Loco was bland amd tasted like they just got thick slices of chicken meat from the deli which left it dry, the rice was super salty and the beans were super thick and no flavor so I barely ate much of my meal. My husband got the carnitas which he liked but still agreed that the beans and rice were salty and bland. This place was not busy in the slights at 4 pm so maybe that should of been a big clue about the food. Staff really wasn't friendly or welcoming either. We won't be coming back and would recommend going to other Mexican restaurants near by with better food quality. read more

So it's been 9 months, I was missing the salsa bar so I convinced my husband to go back. Mistake, big mistake. The salsa bar was baaaad, nothing tasted good. The service was ok, but it just seemed like no one was happy to be there. Almost no customers which wasn't that bad because it was 2pm. Friendly staff greeted me with a smile and very quick service. This food is amazing and I think about this Chimichanga all the time when I'm not here. We stopped here randomly for a Saturday lunch. They were moderately busy but got a table right away. They had the world cup soccer games on the tvs and many people were watching. Our server was FANTASTIC. Extremely attentive and quick. The chips and salsa are very good, lots of flavor! They also have a free salsa bar for other salsas. My husband had an Al pastor quesadilla and he said it was very flavorful and delicious. I got the ground beef tostadas. The ground beef was lacking some flavor and it was a little dry. The portions were great especially for the lower price. My husband said he would absolutely go back. I will go back and try a different meat. Overall, this place is worth a try! read more

My husband and I went on a Saturday night around 5:30pm. The place was fairly full, but they didn't seem super busy. We were greeted and seated right away. Their chips are salsa are good! We cleared off 2 baskets of chips and 4 servings of salsa. Fair warning: their salsa has a KICK! So, if you can't eat spicy food - this is not the place for you. Easily one of the best Mexican restaurants in Rutherford County, and I've been to dang near all of them! Plenty of space, so it doesn't feel like a 'dive', but still has that cool vibe about it. I've been here on two occasions. My first visit went great. I ordered a mango margarita on the rocks. Nice flavor, not too strong and not too weak. We also asked for guac and jalapeño sauce. The guac was chunky. The jalapeño sauce had nice flavor and decent spice but was a little thinner than I prefer. I ordered tacos - steak, chorizo, al pastor, and carnitas. Steak, chorizo, and al pastor were good but not amazing. I've had better. The carnitas were super dry. My boyfriend got spinach enchiladas and enjoyed them. My second visit was disappointing . I asked for the jalapeño sauce. They didn't have it. Bummer because that's why I chose to go here that day. So days that they have the sauce is inconsistent, which is unfortunate. I ordered shrimp tacos. It was three tacos with three very tiny shrimps in each taco... I wasn't full and it didn't taste great at all. The rice was bland. The sauce didn't go with the tacos. Finally got a chance to try it out and I went for a favorite dish I like to try--shrimp ceviche. Unfortunately, I was not too impressed about it. The good--quantity. There was plenty for a meal and it was filling. The not so good--flavor and appearance. It had way too much black pepper which overpowered the entire taste. It didn't have a real fresh look and the garnish didn't help it at all. Also had the jalapeño queso which didn't seem much different than any other Mexican restaurant. Our waitress was quick to serve us and our food came out super fast! That could have been because it was 2 in the afternoon on a Friday but I was surprised! Nothing was undercooked or overdone, the food was pretty dang good! Retried beans and rice were a solid pairing especially combined with the lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. They were a little shy on the tomatoes on my plate but nothing to complain about, everything was good! Their menu is quite extensive, nothing bad to say about this place. I haven't been here before the new management but it seems they're doing everything right! Oh I do have on "gripe", their hot sauce contains no heat, which is odd coming from a Mexican place. Great food! The tacos were awesome. First time visiting El Toro and we'll be back. Staff was great. Food was fantastic. I didn't get to sit at the bar, but I may swing by sometime just to sit in those sweet bar seats and have a cold one. Highly recommend! read more

She came back after a couple minutes asking if we were ready to order and we asked for a couple more minutes and ended up waiting around 10 minutes for her to come back and take our order. It wasn't busy in the restaurant at the time, so there were only about 3 other tables. Service started off strong but declined as the night went on. We got our food quite quickly and it was good! I got chicken, cheese, and rice (basic I know) and the chicken was wonderful and my only suggestion would be more queso. The chips and salsa were also phenomenal! Some of the best I've had!
