I have eaten at Mexico's for decades. Today was my first bad experience. The salsa tasted burnt, and they tried to cover it by making it spicy. I asked for milder salsa and they brought a small bowl of what looked like grease skimmed off the top. The manager came over defending their salsa, saying that the majority of their customers like the salsa spicy. She said nothing about the burnt taste. I didn't even argue. I just said okay. The waitress was good except for when we ordered a white sauce to go and fresh chips and we were given the ones left on our table and charged for them. I ordered the lunch combo #8 withe the Mole sauce. Not only was it unpleasant tasting ( and I discounted because it had been over 3 decades since had it in CA. It tasted like it was a corn tortilla and I dislike them. But the kicker was later in the evening I got very sick. So I won't be back again and my daughter and husband won't either. First. Waited 15 min to even be acknowledged. And it was not that busy. Ordered two Cadillac Margs. The last time I would have believed that was a Cad Margarita was the early 90s when I was a dumb college girl. And when I tell you that you forgot the Grand Marnier... dont argue. After a long day of traveling we decided to go for dinner. This restaurant was not far from the hotel where we were staying. We were seated promptly. Our waiter was attentive. He came back to ask us for more drinks and if we needed anything. Our dinners were delicious. I had the shrimp and crab burrito. It came with a side of squash and potatoes. All had great flavor. Went there on a Friday night for dinner, only had to wait a few minutes before a table for two was available. In the dining area you can tell they recently updated all of their booths, it looks really nice in there. The service was quick and frequently came back to check on us. Chips and salsa were very good, our second basket of chips was even warm. I got a margarita and vegetarian combo which I really enjoyed both. The only complaint I could give is that the noise level is a little loud just with so many people talking in there, but that's about it. For vegetarians they have plenty of options throughout the menu and a special vegetarian section. I'm pretty sure the owners were even there working with customers, based on what I could tell from a posted newspaper article about the origin of the local restaurant chain, pretty cool! read more

This restaurant is a great place to get some hearty food with a quick turnaround time. We tried a couple different dishes and each had a large portion with a lot of variety in the offerings within. We're talking meat, veggies, rice, beans, tortillas-- the works! It felt like our dishes were delivered as we finished ordering them. They were clearly cooked right away and the server brought them out piping hot and ready to be enjoyed. I will say that the beverages were pretty generic "Mexican restaurant" style-- It didn't seem like I was going to find a sour mix made with actual fruit juice, but that's not what I was really anticipating anyway, so it's all good! I have been a patron of Mexico since I moved to Mechanicsville in 1997. I remember their first location was in the Ukrops and Kohls shopping center. Then they moved to their present location. I've been a regular customer now for 27 years. I go there often, alone or with friends or family and I frequently get takeout since my health has declined. So 27 years of being a loyal customer, easily recognized by the checkout staff, and enjoying their delicious food. Then Saturday my luck changed. For the first time EVER, I received an unsatisfactory meal to go. It was stone cold and the chimichanga looked like it had been sitting out for a while. Lettuce wilted I discovered this when I opened the meal when I got home. I immediately called the restaurant to tell them about my order and I was told they would replace it. So I drove back to the restaurant and the manager, who I am positive knows me from my frequent visits, was waiting for me. He treated me like I was dirt, trying to get over or something. I reminded him that I was a loyal customer but his attitude and behavior were insulting. I did get a new meal but it's the last one I'll ever eat from this place. read more

This is a great authentic Mexican restaurant. Service is always efficient. I ordered the crab and shrimp quesadilla. It was tasty and warm. All in all a solid place the food doesn't make you run to the bathroom and the service is fairly good. It can get a bit busy and a little sloppy but it's a good restaurant especially when you go at just the right time and it's mostly empty or at most half full. read more

Wait person was like a zombie; when I asked for a drink menu, instead he responded, "well, what kind of drink do you want?" Ordered Sangria and it arrived in a teeny wine glass, no ice and tasting like candied syrup. When asked what kind of Mezcal they had, he told me he'd never heard of it (WHAT?!?!) and refused to consult with the bartender. Salsa was in a dirty cup as was white sauce when asked for. Food was alternately cold and burnt. Take 60$ and toss it out the window before you waste it- and your time- here. We have been customers here for years and picked up takeout tonight. The food made my daughter nauseous and throw up about an hour and a half after eating it. She was very violently sick. She ate some white sauce, queso, and taquitos that no one else ate. We called to tell them so they could possibly prevent others from getting sick and they told us that it takes 6 hours to get sick and blew us off. For some reason It's hard to find a decent Mexican restaurant around the DMV. This place is amazing. Everything is so flavorful. The rice is always on point, the queso is the bomb, the beans are amazing and the customer service was the best ! The staff is so attentive. Especially Rafael and Jesus! They were so personable and kind. Authentic Mexican food is simple, quick and cheap. This place is all those things and I highly recommend it to anything who appreciates a good enchilada. There was an issue with my online order (thanks to Yelp!) and Grubhub ended up canceling the order to resolve the issue. I drove over to the restaurant to pay for and pickup the order because the situation had nothing to do with Mexico and I didn't want to leave them hanging. My order was prepared and ready for pickup - they had no idea it had even been cancelled. I brought it to the manager's attention and he tried to charge me the full amount - which included delivery fees. He got an attitude when I said I wasn't paying for delivery since I picked it up!! He re-rang the order but acted like it was killing him. I spent $70 on food and he didn't even say thank you!! This is why people don't bother to do the right thing anymore! Placed a take out order, drove 25 minutes home to find out order was wrong and missing items. Called the restaurant and stated my grievance. Got back into the  car and drove another 25 mins back to restaurant. The manager then proceeded to separate the order and was going to give me back the cold items  I just returned. I told him I was not accepting cold food and to redo the entire order. The manager then asked me about a second bag, in which I was only given one bag. He then proceeded to argue with me about the mysterious missing second bag that was never given to me.  At this point I was completely over it and demanded a refund.  I have NEVER experienced worse customer service. I can honestly say I will never go back to Mexico and will be sure to tell others about my experience.  I then went over to Rico's, placed the same order. The staff was extremely courteous.
